Opis:
To initiate its combustion cycles, internal combustion engines require a minimum rotational speed that can be given from several sources (muscular, electrical, pneumatic, among others). Advantages of initiating an ICE with an AC electrical machine is that it can integrate starter motor and generator in one device, provide a linear ramp of acceleration when starting, and assist the ICE in torque production. This article illustrates considerations for the design of a starting system with an AC electrical machine. Initially, criteria of torque, rotational speed and power requirements are analysed, considering resistances of compression, friction, and inertia of the slider-crank mechanism, as well as accessories, with a preliminary experimental validation. Also, types of three-phase AC electrical machines are put to comparison, as well as their associated electronic components needed for driving them in each case, concluding that AC induction machines require a complex 4-quadrant inverter. PM synchronous machines require a simpler inverter, but with highly specified power electronics components. The classical wound rotor machine requires the simplest inverter, with unidirectional power flow, less power transfer losses and less critical power electronics components. Finally, considerations for using of a battery assisted with supercapacitor as complementary DC power source are made.

Opis:
In rotating machinery, actions of the moving parts take place at specific angular positions rather than at specific times. For this reason, having a geometrical reference, such as the one provided by an encoder, and studying the Instantaneous Angular Speed (IAS) variations can provide a large amount of information about the health status of the machine. In fact, from the variation of the IAS during the machine loads’ cycle it is possible to identify defects and faults. The current work focuses on the estimation of the IAS through the Elapsed Time (ET) method, using a counter in order to measure the time elapsed between the pulses of an encoder. Both IAS and vibration measurement are conducted on an asynchronous four poles electrical motor driven by 50Hz line current, without load. The study compares the order analysis of both signals. The bearing’s Fundamental Train Frequency is detected using IAS estimation.

Opis:
The paper presents a description of a new DTFC3L3A (direct torque and flux control three levels three areas) control method of induction machine as well as its comparison with the DTC method. The basis for the comparison is the switching frequency of described methods. The proposed method is optimized to reduce number of switchings (which is proportional to switching power losses) in static state, as well as it takes into account the angle which makes it possible to obtain a sinusoidal shape of flux within range of low angular frequencies of an asynchronous machine. The paper includes the results of experiments performed on a three level DC/AC inverter for both control methods.

Opis:
This paper describes two modern direct torque and flux control methods of an induction machine supplied by a three-level inverter. Additionally, it presents a comparison of the methods both in static and dynamic states. The methods, in a specific way, make use of an increased number of active vectors of the three-level inverter in order to improve control quality and reduce switching frequency. The two methods modify the DTC method by using its advantages and eliminating, at the same time its drawbacks. In static states the comparison was based on the results of investigations performed for two different load values and three set values of angular speed, whereas in dynamic states the comparison was focused on the behavior of the machine at startup. The results of the investigations have shown that both methods give very good performance. They are characterized by both sinusoidal shape of flux and low current deformations even at low angular speeds i.e. less than 10% of the nominal value. The presented methods also allow to generate nominal flux for set zero angular speed in order to achieve excitation of the induction machine. The switching frequencies for both methods are very similar in almost the whole range of control but the methods have shown some differences in control quality, particularly for higher torque values.
