Opis:
In this paper the influence of alcohols as the process control agents on β-Ti alloys preparation using mechanical alloying process was investigated. Three types of alcohols: methanol, ethanol and isopropanol were used in mechanical alloying of Ti-20Ta-20Nb. Pure Ti, Ta, Nb powders and process control agents were alloyed under argon atmosphere in shaker type mill (Spex 8000). Using X-ray diffraction technique, there has been observed the β phase formation after 3 h of mechanical alloying process. Using alcohols as process control agent it is possible to obtain nanocrystalline powders of titanium alloys. The milled powder was sintered in vacuum using hot pressing with high frequency induction heating. It has been shown that sintering process of powders prepared with alcohols as process control agents results in oxides and carbides formation in the alloy structure. Moreover some part of alcohol could evaporate leaving open spaces which results in relatively high porosity of the sinters.

Opis:
In this paper preparation of new β-Ti alloys using mechanical alloying process has been shown. β -Ti alloys are the best metallic biomaterials because of their excellent properties: biocompatibility, low Young moduli and corrosion resistance. Ti-20Ta-20Nb biocompatible alloy was investigated. Mg was used as alloying element, as well (10, 15 and 20 wt%). Pure Ti, Nb, Ta and Mg powders were alloyed under argon atmosphere in shaker type mill (Spex 8000). There was no problem with cold welding in the mechanical alloying of titanium alloys containing Mg. In the paper a possibility of porous materials preparation by sintering in temperature higher than boiling temperature of Mg has been shown. This thermal dealloying method could be an alternative to space holder technique.

The paper presents the study of Ni-based coatings deposited by plasma detonation onto a steel substrate after direct current low-energy electron beam irradiation and proposes explicit parameters of the electron beam for modification of coatings by irradiation. The choice of irradiation modes is based on the calculation of the temperature profile in the Ni-Fe two-layer absorbents using numerical simulation methods. It was found that the exposure of coatings to irradiation according to the recommended modes leads to the evolution of the structural-phase state of coatings and substantial improvement of performance properties of modified surfaces. The wear resistance of modified surfaces increases 3 times, the microhardness increases on the average 25%.

The paper deals with the results of the comparative study into the structure and phase composition, as well as some properties (microhardness, corrosion resistance) of Ni-based powder coatings before and after their modification by DC electron beam or DC pulse plasma jet, according to the modes recommended on the basis of model calculations of the temperature profiles at irradiation. The transmission electron microscopy and X-ray analysis have revealed that irradiation leads to an increase in the volume fraction of reinforcing nanosized intermetallic components in the coatings. There were established certain similarities and differences in the structure and properties of the coatings modified by different types of irradiation. The microhardness of the irradiated coatings has increased in both cases along with the growth of the volume fraction of the CrNi₃ particle phase. However, it was found that the diffusion zone in the coatings modified by plasma jet is higher than that of the coatings modified by electron irradiation. The coating surface melted by the electron beam has a marked reduction of its roughness and better homogenization of the microstructure therefore demonstrating better adhesion and corrosion resistance.

Antibacterial property for the plastic products is very important due to their wide spread usage in many areas close to human health such as a child toy or a food package. There are some methods to make polymers antibacterial such as ionizing radiation but they can be still infected by micro organisms during usage of them. The best and easy way to obtain antibacterial polymers is melt mixing of polymers with antibacterial agents. In this study, nano $TiO_2$ and ZnO particles were mixed with polypropylene and high density polyethylene with a twin screw extruder. Silane was applied to the particles prior melt mixing in order to prevent agglomeration and FT-IR analysis was done to characterize the particles. After melt mixing, particle filled rectangular plates were obtained by plastic injection molding and antibacterial tests were done on the plates according to a standard method, JIS Z 2801. According to the results, satisfactory antibacterial properties were obtained for both polymers and it has been seen that particles without silane could not provide antibacterial effect.

In this work, nanostructured La-based materials were produced by chemical precipitation method onto Cladosporium cladosporioides fungal hyphae in aqueous solution. Materials were annealed at various temperatures between 100°C-600°C. The morphological properties of the synthesized material were studied by transmission electron microscopy. The surface area for sample annealed at 360°C was determined to be 85.64 m²/g using Brunauer-Emmett-Teller method. The nitrogen adsorption and desorption isotherm displayed a typical type-IV isotherm. Electrochemical properties of produced material were studied using cyclic voltammetry, long term charge/discharge analysis and impedance spectroscopy in the 0.5 M Na₂SO₄ electrolyte. The obtained nanostructured porous electrode exhibits quasi-rectangular shaped cyclic voltammetry curves with a specific capacitance of 2190 F/g at a scan rate of 2 mV/s.

The nickel oxide microtubes with high surface-to-volume ratio have been achieved using the Bacillus subtilis bacteria. Surface properties of the metal-oxide nanostructured materials were investigated by electron microscopy. The surface area of that was also studied by the Brunauer-Emmett-Teller analysis method. The materials were used at the construction of supercapacitor as an electrode active material.

In this study, free standing NiO nanostructures for supercapacitors were obtained by means of chemically depositing of nickel oxide on Ni foam and then they were annealed at various temperatures. The morphological properties of densely covered Ni foams were studied by scanning electron microscopy. Supercapacitor characteristics, such as charging/discharging and impedance characteristics, were also examined.

The importance of vanadium oxide in solid state science as a semiconductor encouraged us to prepare and investigate its microstructure and surface properties related to gas sensing characteristics. Hence, vanadium oxide thin films were deposited by spray pyrolysis method. The prepared films were placed in an electric circuit and the sensing characteristics of these films to ethanol vapors were studied. It was possible to find correlations between nanostructure and electrical properties of the obtained thin films and to optimize conditions of its synthesis. By X-ray diffraction, field emission scanning electron microscopy, and atomic force microscopy, the structure of the deposited films was determined. Based on atomic force microscopy results, the fractal analysis showed a decreasing trend of the fractal dimension (the slope of the log (perimeter) vs. log (area)) versus the deposition time. It was found that the film growth and gas response were affected by the deposition time. The operating temperature of the sensor was optimized for the best gas response. In accordance with our findings, the film deposited at the lowest deposition time (20 min) had the highest sensing response to ethanol.

Indium oxide $(In_2O_3)$ thin films were deposited on glass substrate by varying substrate temperature in the range of 400-600C using the spray pyrolysis technique. In this research, physical properties of indium oxide thin films were studied and then nanocrystalline sizes at different substrate temperature were deeply compared and investigated. All films were characterized at room temperature using X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, photoluminescence, the Hall effect and UV-visible spectrophotometer. The optimal substrate temperature to obtain films of high crystallographic quality was 575°C, for this temperature, the electrical resistivity was in the order of ρ=0.147 Ω cm. For comparing optical transmittance and electrical conductivity the best figure of merit of the films was achieved at 575C.

Cubic molybdenum (Mo) nanocubes were deposited on a silicon substrate via dc sputtering. This method has been widely used to prepare the thin films containing the crystalline nanostructures. We used this approach to deposition and after that, the characterization of Mo nanocubes. Formation of these cubes was investigated by atomic force microscopy, X-ray diffractometry and four point probes, respectively. First, the mean sizes of the molybdenum cubic nanoparticles were studied under different Mo film thicknesses of 50, 80, 110, and 140 nm. Structural characterizations indicate that the as-deposited Mo nanocubes have different side-length and their distribution over the surface has been measured, separately. In the next step, according to the X-ray diffractometry, Mo crystallites were all along the (110) crystal planes of cubic structure. Finally, electrical characterizations reported that at a deposition power of 54 W, our samples exhibit an electrical resistivity, in the range of 0.92×10¯⁴ Ω cm to 0.58×10¯⁴ Ω cm.

This work is devoted to the production of microparticles via pulsed laser ablation from a solid cobalt target immersed in three different solutions of distilled water as well as in ethanol and in acetone, to study the effect of liquid media on the physical properties and structure of particles. The samples were characterized using XRD, SEM and particle size analysis. More than simply Co particles have resulted in each three liquid media, CoO particles were produced only in acetone, whereas Co₃O₄ particles were predominantly produced in water and ethanol.

Nanosuspension based on melt-quenched arsenic sulfide of nominal $As_{55}S_{45}$ composition was prepared by nanomilling and tested as potential anticancer drug. Polyvinylpyrrolidone was used as steric stabilizer and inhibitor of agglomeration. Individual nanoparticles had average size of 192 nm (determined by photon cross-correlation spectroscopy) and had several times better dissolution ability in comparison with bulk $As_{55}S_{45}$. Effect of nanomilling is shown to be associated with formation of arsenic sulfide crystalline nanoparticles and free-volume entities located at the interface between nanoparticles and surrounding matrix as it follows from positron annihilation measurements. Cytotoxicity tests were performed using human melanoma cell line Bowes and confirmed high toxicity of the studied nanosuspension.

This work presents synthesis and characterization of novel nanofiber structures from the pure water solution blends of poly(vinyl alcohol, hydrolyzed 89%) (PVA/octadecylamine-montmorillonite (ODA-MMT, 5 mass%) as a matrix and poly(N-vinylpyrrolidone) (PVP)/ODA-MMT (5 mass%) as a partner preintercalated nanocomposites and their AgNPs incorporated derivatives by green electrospinning nanotechnology. The chemical and physical structures, surface morphologies, and conductivities were investigated by the Fourier transform infrared, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, conducting analysis methods. The fabricated multifunctional nanofibers predominantly exhibit colloidal-like amorphous structures, which is an important factor to improve tendency to self-assembly and therefore, the conductivities of the nanofiber polyelectrolyte structures. Obtained morphologies of composite nanofibers show cross-section structures with fine diameter distribution with higher contact areas. The nanofiber composites show excellent electrical conductivity at temperature range of 20-45°C. The obtained unique properties of multifunctional nanofiber surfaces with higher contact areas can be used for wide applications in microelectronics, sensor devices, nanolithography (X-ray, E-beam and photoresists), electrochemical (surface functionalized electrods) and bioengineering processing.

$Co_3V_2O_8$ is a member of kagomé staircase oxides, represented by general formula $M_3V_2O_8$ (M = Ni, Co, Mn). It attracted great attention due to strong magnetic anisotropy, magnetic phase transition, genuine macroscopic quantum effects, strong quantum fluctuations, low-temperature ferroelectricity, field-induced magnetic transitions, complicated phase diagram and displays long-range magnetic order because of geometrical frustration. Different routes to prepare the frustrated magnetic material was reported such as floating zone technique and conventional high temperature method. $Co_3V_2O_8$ (International Centre for Diffraction Data (ICDD): 16-675) was synthesized with $Co_3O_4$ (ICDD: 80-1536) as binary phase by microwave assisted preparation using $Co(NO_3)_2 ·6H_2O$ and $NH_4VO_3$. The synthesized material was characterization by powder X-ray diffraction, the Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and thermogravimetric-differential thermal analysis.
