Opis:
The trap energy density spectra of natural quartz were investigated by the fractional glow technique. The thermal treatment before excitation induces the changes of thermoluminescence sensitivity as well as the changes of trap spectrum. After annealing at temperature higher than 400°C, a new kind of trap is observed. The frequency factor was determinated by the fitting of the theoretical glow curve calculated using the trap depth measured by fractional glow technique to experimental one.

We report on the results of photoluminescence and thermoluminescence measurements of various 6H-SiC crystals. At low temperature in all n-type samples two bands with maxima at 2.7 eV (blue) and 1.8 eV (orange) were detected. In the p-type material only blue band was observed. The measurements performed at a broad range of temperatures showed totally different behaviour of photoluminescence intensity of both bands. The presented results could be explained in the model assuming well established donor-acceptor pair recombination for the blue band emission and the conduction band - deep defect transition for the orange band. The proposed model was confirmed by thermoluminescence measurements of the orange band which showed peaks at 30 K, 80 K, 100 K, 150 K attributed to ionization of subsequent shallow donor levels.

Opis:
Different characteristics of thermally stimulated luminescence and conductivity in insulator are numerically calculated without the quasi-equilibrium approximation. The results are compared with corresponding results calculated using the quasi-equilibrium approximation. This comparison suggests that the quasi-equilibrium approximation is correct in the low temperature range of the thermally stimulated luminescence and conductivity curves for crystals which have the density of recombination centres higher than 10$\text{}^{13}$ cm$\text{}^{-3}$ and the recombination coefficient larger than 10$\text{}^{-12}$ cm$\text{}^{3}$ s$\text{}^{-1}$, or equivalently, for those with the initial free electron lifetime shorter than 10$\text{}^{-1}$ s. For the high temperature range of the thermally stimulated luminescence and conductivity curves the quasi-equilibrium approximation gives correct results if the recombination centres density is higher than 10$\text{}^{14}$ cm$\text{}^{-3}$ and the recombination coefficient is larger than 10$\text{}^{-12}$ cm$\text{}^{3}$ s$\text{}^{-1}$ or if the initial free electron lifetime is shorter than 10$\text{}^{-2}$ s. The results of this paper show also that the so-called "first-order" shape of the thermally stimulated luminescence and conductivity curves is typical not of the weak retrapping only, but it can be obtained also for the strong retrapping.

In the paper the results of investigations of X-ray excitation spectra, thermostimulated luminescence and the influence of light illumination on the thermoluminescence glow curves of pure and Tb-doped $PbWO_{4}$ crystals are presented. It is suggested that the $F^{-}$-centres are formed in $PbWO_{4}$ crystals at filling oxygen vacancies near $Pb^{3+}$ ions to three electrons under X-ray irradiation at 90 K. The nature of 108 K thermostimulated luminescence peak is connected with the $[(WO_{3} + F^{-})-Pb^{3+}]$ associations. It was established that thermal or optical destruction of this peak leads to appearance of the radiative transitions of excitons localized near the $[(WO_{3} + F)-Pb^{2+}]$ complex centres.

In the present work the thermoluminescence of a lilac α-spodumene (LiAlSi$\text{}_{2}$O$\text{}_{6}$), a natural mineral from Brazil, was investigated. Toward this aim the gamma irradiation, as well as several heating processes were carried out. The sample presented a glow curve with various thermoluminescence peaks. Emission spectrum showed only one prominent band at 610 nm, which indicates the existence of only one recombination center despite the several thermoluminescence centers exhibited, due to intrinsic defects. Using correlation between thermoluminescence and optical absorption techniques we discuss the effects of gamma radiation and annealing in the lilac spodumene, and conclude that an annealing at about 230ºC can be applied to natural lilac spodumene gems used in jewelry for increment of its lilac color.

Thermoluminescence characteristics of $TlInS_{2}$ layered single crystals grown by the Bridgman method were investigated in the low temperature range of 10-300 K. The illuminated sample with blue light ( ≈ 470 nm) at 10 K was heated at constant heating rate. Curve fitting, initial rise and various heating rate methods were used to determine the activation energy of the trap levels. All applied methods showed good consistency about the presence of five trapping centers located at 14, 19, 350, 420, and 520 meV. Behavior of the TL curve for various heating rates was investigated. Traps distribution has also been studied. The activation energies of the distributed trapping centers were found to be increasing from 14 to 46 meV.

Opis:
In this work the researched results of the spectral characteristics of the luminescence and the thermostimulated luminescence curves of Y₂O₃ and Y₂O₃:Eu ceramic materials at the X-ray excitation in the 85-295 K range were generalized. Considering the features of Y₂O₃ crystal structure and the possibility of the formation of the short-lived and stable hole and electron centers of V- and F-type by the ionizing radiation X-ray luminescence spectrum of ceramics at 85 K is fitted into the elementary Gaussian shape bands with the maxima near 3.40, 3.06, 2.67, 2.33, 2.09, and 1.91 eV. The main 3.40 and 3.06 eV bands of the luminescence are caused by the self-trapped excitons of (YO₆)⁹¯ complex, when the cation is localized in the field of the trigonal (C_{3i}) and monoclinic (C₂) symmetries. The emission at 2.67 eV and the weak bands in the 1.65-2.61 eV region are considered as the radiation of excitons localized on the anion vacancies and the electron centers of F-type (F⁺, F and F¯). The thermoluminescence of Y₂O₃ in the 186 and 204 K main peaks range is connected with the thermal destruction of the self-trapped states of O¯ ions that located in the field of the trigonal and monoclinic symmetries. The activator bands caused by ⁵D→ ⁷F_{j} electronic transitions in Eu³⁺ are only observed in the X-ray and thermostimulated luminescence spectra of Y₂O₃:Eu ceramics. It was assumed that both at the X-rays irradiation and an optical excitation in the band of the charge transfer of Y₂O₃:Eu sample the energy goes to Eu³⁺ through (Eu²⁺O¯) complexes (states) of the charge transfer.

Opis:
In this paper spectroscopic investigations of $Gd_3Ga_5O_{12}$ (GGG) polycrystals, containing $Cr^{3+}$ and intentionally doped with $Pr^{3+}$ of concentrations 0.5, 1 and 1.5 mol% are presented. We have measured the steady state luminescence and luminescence excitation spectra, as well as the time resolved spectra and luminescence kinetics. The main goal was to investigate the excitation energy transfer from lattice to impurity and between impurities. We found that relative intensity of $Cr^{3+}$ and GGG lattice luminescence decreased when material was doped with $Pr^{3+}$. On the other hand, time resolved spectroscopy and luminescence decay measurements showed that the $Cr^{3+}$ and GGG lattice luminescence decays were independent of $Pr^{3+}$ content. The lifetime of $Pr^{3+}$ luminescence related to $\text{}^{1}D_{2} \rightarrow \text{}^{3}H_{4}$ and $\text{}^{3}P_{0} \rightarrow \text{}^{3}H_{4}$ transitions decreased with concentration of $Pr^{3+}$, which was attributed to the concentration luminescence quenching. No energy transfer between GGG lattice defects and $Cr^{3+}$, and $Pr^{3+}$ ions was observed. We proposed the model of radiative recombination of electron and hole, which took place through three independent pathways: by GGG host emission that peaked at 12750 $cm^{-1}$, by $Cr^{3+}$ luminescence that peaked at 15400 $cm^{-1}$, and by $Pr^{3+}$ luminescence.

It is shown that $Ca_{3-x}Cd_xGa_2Ge_3O_{12}$ polycrystalline samples are characterized by intrinsic luminescence, which consists of several components. The nature of intrinsic luminescence is discussed. The influence of light illumination on the TSL intensity of the preliminary X-ray irradiated samples is shown.

We present new results of luminescence of n-type 6H-SiC crystals. We have found two shallow donors with ionization energies at 60 meV and 140 meV. We have shown that the blue luminescence is not affected by the ionization of the shallower donor and is related to deeper donor which we attribute to N at C-site. We propose that the origin of the more shallower donor at 60 meV is related to carbon vacancy. We have found that the intensity of the orange luminescence increases under infrared illumination. This result confirms that the orange luminescence is due to conduction band-deep centre transitions. We believe that deep centre responsible for the orange luminescence is the silicon vacancy.

In this paper we review results of radioluminescence studies on two scintillator materials, LuAlO$\text{}_{3}$ and YAlO$\text{}_{3}$, activated with Ce. The experiments include measurements of ther moluminescence, isothermal phosphorescence decays, scintillation light yield as function of temperature, and scintillation time profiles under gamma excitation. Experimental results are interpreted in the frame of a simple kinetic model that includes a number of electron traps. We have identified and characterized a number of deep and shallow traps and demonstrated that traps in LuAlO$\text{}_{3}$:Ce are deeper than corresponding traps in YAlO$\text{}_{3}$:Ce. Unlike deep traps which are responsible for some scintillation light loss but otherwise do not have any impact on generation of scintillation light, shallow traps are shown to actively interfere with the process of radiative recombination via Ce ions. We demonstrate that shallow traps are responsible for some as yet unexplained observations including a higher room temperature light yield of YAlO$\text{}_{3}$:Ce and its longer scintillation decay time, as well as a longer scintillation rise time in LuAlO$\text{}_{3}$:Ce.

Thermoluminescence properties of TlGaSeS layered single crystals were investigated in the temperature range of 280-720 K. Thermoluminescence glow curve exhibited three peaks with maximum temperatures of ≈370, 437, and 490 K. Curve fitting, initial rise and peak shape methods were used to determine the activation energies of the trapping centers. All applied methods resulted with energies around 0.82, 0.91, and 0.99 eV. Dose dependence of the thermoluminescence intensity was also examined for the doses in the range of 0.7-457.6 Gy. Peak maximum intensity of the observed peak around 370 K showed an increase up to a certain dose and then a decrease at higher doses. This non-monotonic dose dependence was discussed under the light of a reported model in which different kinds of competition between radiative and nonradiative recombination centers during excitation or heating stages of the thermoluminescence process are explained.
