Opis:
The luminescence of $Cu^{+}$ and $Cu^{2+}$ ions in CsBr:Cu and CsBr:$CuBr_{2}$ crystals, respectively, is investigated under excitation by synchrotron radiation in the CsBr fundamental absorption range at 10 K and 300 K. The existence of the luminescence bands of different origin: (i) the intrinsic radiative transition of $Cu^{+}$ ions in the bands peaked at 2.61 eV and 2.23 eV, (ii) the recombination luminescence of $Cu^{2+}$ ions in the bands peaked at 2.55 eV and 2.13 eV, (iii) the luminescence of excitons localized around $Cu^{+}$ and $Cu^{2+}$ ions in the band peaked at 3.08 eV and 3.38 eV, respectively, was found in CsBr:Cu and CsBr:$CuBr_{2}$ crystals. The energies of creation of exciton localized around $Cu^{+}$ and $Cu^{2+}$ ions (6.06 eV and 6.09 eV, respectively, at 10 K) and excitons bound with these ions (5.83 eV and 5.99 eV at 300 K) were determined as well.

Opis:
The analysis of cation sublattices population in magnesium doped $LiNbO_{3}$ crystals is carried out. It is shown that volume concentration of lithium vacancies $(V_{Li})$ monotonously increases with increasing of MgO content in the crystal up to the threshold value. A series of $LiNbO_{3}$ crystals with various concentration of $Mg^{2+}$ were investigated by $\text{}^{7}Li$ and $\text{}^{93}Nb$ Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR). It is concluded that the peculiarities of NMR spectra in Mg-doped $LiNbO_{3}$ crystals can be explained by the formation of defect complexes including $Mg_{Li}$ ions and $V_{Li}$ on the shortest distances between them.

Opis:
We present the study of spin dynamics of KEr(MoO₄)₂ in the magnetic field applied along the hard axis c. The temperature dependence of AC susceptibility in zero magnetic field studied at frequencies f=10, 100, and 1000 Hz indicated the absence of relaxation in the temperature range from 2 to 20 K. Application of magnetic field induced a slow magnetic relaxation, which was investigated in detail in the field 0.5 T. The highest intensity of the relaxation process, reflected by the values of imaginary susceptibility was observed at 2 K. With increasing temperature, the relaxation process is weaker and vanishes completely above 3.5 K. Corresponding Cole-Cole diagrams were constructed and analyzed within a single relaxation process which can be associated with a direct relaxation process with a bottleneck effect, τ ≈1/T^b, and b=1.4. The slow relaxation at 2 K intensifies with increasing magnetic field at least up to 1 T.

The present work is devoted to the magnetic relaxation study of the single crystal CsNd(MoO₄)₂ a layered rare-earth dimolybdate. AC susceptibility measurements performed in magnetic fields up to B=5 T applied along the easy and hard axis with frequency f ≈1 kHz revealed rather complex field-induced slow magnetic relaxation. Two relaxation regimes in different magnetic field intervals connected with magnetic interactions and possible single-ion relaxation mechanism were observed.

Opis:
The gadolinium complexes: [Gd(SiW$\text{}_{11}$O$\text{}_{39}$)$\text{}_{2}$]$\text{}^{13-}$ [I] and [GdP$\text{}_{5}$W$\text{}_{30}$O$\text{}_{110}$]$\text{}^{12-}$ (Gd-encrypted Preyssler anion) [II] have been chosen for EPR study. This study is a continuation of our recent investigation related to solid gadolinium complexes: β-diketonates and aminopolycarboxylates. The EPR spectra of the Gd-polyoxometalates studied provide much better resolution than those recently studied. The spectra of Gd-polyoxometalates containing 1.7 to 2.5% of Gd(III) do not require an additional computer processing for correct interpretation. It is on the contrary to the β-diketonates and polyaminocarboxylates (with the content of Gd(III) 22-33%) for which the use of the RKU computer program (based on Fourier transform) was necessary in order to enhance the spectra resolution thus improving their correct interpretation. The EPR spectra obtained for the compounds I and II markedly differ from the U-spectrum characteristic of Gd(III) in glasses. Taking into account the spin-Hamiltonian calculations the existence of Gd(III) ion in two different surroundings: in a strong crystal field of rhombic symmetry and in a weak crystal field, is observed. The differences observed between the case I and II seem to be related to a various hydration degree.

Calcium fluoride crystals doped with YbF$\text{}_{3}$ and co-doped with LiF and NaF were grown using the vertical Bridgman method. Several of rare-earth ions (such as Eu, Sm, Ho, Tm, and Yb) can be stabilized in the divalent state in the CaF$\text{}_{2}$. The change of valence was attained by various methods. The optical absorption spectra reveal the characteristic absorption bands of the Yb$\text{}^{3+}$ and Yb$\text{}^{2+}$ ions. This means that the developed crystal growth process achieves a good Yb$\text{}^{3+}$ to Yb$\text{}^{2+}$ conversion in the as-grown crystals. The influence of other impurities, such as Na$\text{}^{+}$ or Li$\text{}^{+}$, on the absorption and emission spectrum of YbF$\text{}_{3}$-doped CaF$\text{}_{2}$ was studied. The Li$\text{}^{+}$ and Na$\text{}^{+}$ ions drastically decrease the absorption coefficient of the Yb$\text{}^{2+}$ ions in the UV band and the emission intensity by excitation in 230 nm.

Angular dependences of ESR line parameters (g-factor and linewidth Δ H) were experimentally explored in the antiferroquadrupolar phase of heavy fermion system CeB₆ at T=1.8 K. The data were obtained in two experimental geometries with different mutual directions of the wavevector k and the external magnetic field H at frequency of f=60 GHz. A g-factor anisotropy was found: while g-factors for [110] and [111] directions are close to each other (g ≈1.6), it is considerably higher (g ≈1.75) for [100]. The obtained angular dependence g(Θ) was compared with the theoretically predicted g-factor behavior for the Γp₈ state of Ce³⁺ ion in antiferroquadrupolar phase of CeB₆. It turns out that the experimental g-factor is considerably smaller at all angles than the theoretically calculated limits (2

Three physically different parametrization schemes are considered, i.e. that of Einstein, Debye and Huang. It is found that the model of Huang, which predicts that the phonon induced contributions should be proportional to the Debye-Waller factor, describes best the experimental data. The method allowing determination of the Debye temperature from EPR data is also suggested.

The X-band EPR study of Gd$\text{}^{3+}$-doped La$\text{}_{0.9}$Nd$\text{}_{0.1}$F$\text{}_{3}$ single crystal in the temperature range 4.2-295 K is carried out in order to investigate crystal field effects, the Gd$\text{}^{3+}$ spin-phonon interactions, as well as Gd$\text{}^{3+}$ and Nd$\text{}^{3+}$ spin-lattice relaxation times. The local distortions at 4.2 K of the positions of the eight F$\text{}^{-}$ ions surrounding the Gd$\text{}^{3+}$ ion in the La$\text{}_{0.9}$Nd$\text{}_{0.1}$F$\text{}_{3}$ crystal were determined from comparison of the theoretical with the experimental spin-Hamiltonian parameters. The spin-phonon interactions can be described by the Einstein model, which better characterizes the behavior of paramagnetic centers in LaF$\text{}_{3}$ and La$\text{}_{0.9}$Nd$\text{}_{0.1}$F$\text{}_{3}$ crystals than the Debye model. It is suggested, from the rotational invariance mechanism for phonon-induced contributions to spin-Hamiltonian parameters, that the rotational contributions are much smaller than those from the strain.

Spin-Hamiltonian parameters are analysed in the light of the superposition model and the rotational invariance theory for phonon-induced contributions to spin-Hamiltonian parameters. The 4f$\text{}^{7}$ electron-phonon interactions can be described by the Debye model. It is suggested, from the rotational invariance mechanism for phonon-induced contributions to spin-Hamiltonian parameters, that the rotational contributions are much smaller than those from the strain. Temperature-induced distortions of the crystal field, as well as these distortions caused by the La$\text{}^{3+}$/Nd$\text{}^{3+}$ and Y$\text{}^{3+}$/Yb$\text{}^{3+}$ substitutions, influence significantly the 4f$\text{}^{7}$ electron-phonon interactions. The coupling constant K$\text{}_{2}$ of 4f$\text{}^{7}$ electrons to the whole phonon spectrum of the crystal lattice is stronger in the LaF$\text{}_{3}$, La$\text{}_{0.9}$Ce$\text{}_{0.1}$F$\text{}_{3}$, La$\text{}_{0.9}$Nd$\text{}_{0.1}$F$\text{}_{3}$ with larger temperature-induced distortion of the Gd$\text{}^{3+}$ site symmetry than in LiYF$\text{}_{4}$, LiY$\text{}_{0.9}$Yb$\text{}_{0.1}$F$\text{}_{4}$. The exchange interactions were estimated by the application of the molecular-field model at liquid-helium temperature, using the g shift from the isostructural diamagnetic hosts LaF$\text{}_{3}$ and LiYF$\text{}_{4}$ to the paramagnetic hosts. The lattice dynamics is studied by analysing spin-Hamiltonian parameters in the light of the superposition model and the rotational invariance theory for phonon-induced contributions to spin-Hamiltonian parameters. It is suggested from the rotational invariance mechanism for phonon-induced contributions to spin-Hamiltonian parameters that the rotational contributions influence the exchange interactions significantly.
