Opis:
In this paper we have investigated the scattering of electrons by a circular narrow penetrable δ-type potential barrier in $A^{3}B^{5}$ type semiconductors by using three-band Kane model. By using the Kane equations with the continuous conditions of the wave functions and flux discontinuous at the interface of two circular dots, we have analytically calculated the total cross-section and the Boltzmann conductivity for the semiconductor quantum rings with delta potential barrier. It has been shown that the quasi-bound states appear as peaks in the cross-section.

Opis:
We study graphene nanoribbons and carbon nanotubes with divacancies, i.e., local defects composed of one octagon and a pair of pentagons. We show that the presence of divacancies leads to the appearance of gap states, which may act as acceptor or donor states. We explain the origin of those defect-localized states and prove that they are directly related to the zero-energy states of carbon ring forming the octagonal topological defect.

Opis:
In this paper energy bands and Berry curvature of graphene was studied. Desired Hamiltonian regarding the next-nearest neighbors was obtained by tight-binding model. By using the second quantization approach, the transformation matrix is calculated and the Hamiltonian of system is diagonalized. With this Hamiltonian, the band structure and wave function can be calculated. By using calculated wave function the Berry connection and Berry curvature of our system are calculated. Our results are exactly consistent with previous methods and also the Berry curvature throughout the Brillouin zone get zero.

Opis:
The quantum tunnelling of spin-polarized electrons through a Rashba barrier on a single layer graphene is studied by the scattering matrix method. It is shown that the magnetoresistance, defined as the difference between conductance at the presence and absence of the Rashba spin-orbit interaction, oscillates with the intensity of interaction. These oscillations are also observed in the conductance versus the potential energy of the barrier.

Opis:
Motivated by recent advances in fabricating graphene nanostructures, we find that an electron can be trapped in Z-shaped graphene nanoconstriction with zigzag edges. The central section of the constriction operates as a single-level quantum dot, as the current flow towards the adjunct sections (rotated by 60°) is strongly suppressed due to mismatched valley polarization, although each section in isolation shows maximal quantum value of the conductance $G_0 = 2e^2//h$. We further show that the trapping mechanism is insensitive to the details of constriction geometry, except from the case when widths of the two neighboring sections are equal. The relation with earlier studies of electron transport through symmetric and asymmetric kinks with zigzag edges is also established.

Opis:
We study the dynamics of graphene ring in the presence of time-dependent electric field, where the Dirac particles in graphene ring interact with external electromagnetic fields. Using the Dirac Hamiltonian in electromagnetic field, we obtain the pseudomagnetic moment of the Dirac particles around a graphene ring. It is shown that the appeared pseudomagnetic moment term essentially can be in control by time-dependent electric field, and also it depends on the energy gap of graphene. It seems that one can construct a logic system in graphene and also in semiconductors by the pseudomagnetic moment term.

Opis:
We report on exact-diagonalization studies of correlated many-electron states in the half-filled Landau levels of graphene, including pseudospin (valley) degeneracy. We demonstrate that the polarized Fermi sea of non-interacting composite fermions remains stable against a pairing transition in the lowest two Landau levels. However, it undergoes spontaneous depolarization, which is unprotected owing to the lack of single-particle pseudospin splitting. These results suggest the absence of the Pfaffian phase in graphene.

Opis:
Graphene nanomeshes are the nanostructures consisting of graphene flake with a regular pattern of antidots (holes) punched through it. Thanks to the energy gaps opening in electronic spectrum, nanomesh-based transistors offer improved I_{on}/I_{off} ratio of the collector current while supporting up to 100 larger driving currents than nanoribbon-based devices. In this paper the electronic and magnetic structure of graphene nanomeshes with hexagonally shaped antidots was studied. It has been found that the internal zigzag edges support magnetic moments and that lowest energy magnetic configuration is antiferromagnetic. The density of states calculated for ground state configuration exhibit the energy gap which can be substantially reduced upon switching (e.g. by external magnetic field) to ferromagnetic configuration. Based on this we predict that the structure will exhibit magnetoresistive effect, which makes graphene nanomeshes of this kind relevant for spintronic applications.

The indirect Ruderman-Kittel-Kasuya-Yosida (RKKY) coupling between on-site magnetic impurities is studied for two kinds of graphene nanoflakes consisting of approximately 100 carbon atoms, posessing either zigzag or armchair edge. The tight-binding Hamiltonian with Hubbard term is used in non-perturbative calculations of coupling between the impurities, placed at the edge of the structure. In general, for zigzag-edged nanoflakes a pronounced coupling robust against charge doping is found, while for armchair-edged structures the interaction is weaker and much more sensitive to charge doping. Also the distance dependence of indirect exchange differs significantly for both edge forms.

We investigate theoretically the electronic properties of graphene functionalized with nitrogen and boron atoms substituted into the graphene monolayer. Our study is based on the ab initio calculations in the framework of the density functional theory. We predict the dependence of the energy band gap, binding energy per atom, and the shift of the Fermi level on the concentration of dopants. Moreover, we examine the influence of the distribution of B/N atoms on the specified properties.

We examine transport through a spin-1/2 Kondo impurity, patterned between atomic scale electrodes in the presence of side-coupled nanographene flake. Impurity is attached to the edge of the flake, what allows to test the edge states. The Kotliar Ruckenstein slave boson approach is adopted to describe the strongly correlated impurity. We show that transport measurement of Fano-Kondo effect can serve as a spectroscopic probe of spin resolved graphene flake energy levels. The edge moments can be completely suppressed by gate voltage.

Opis:
Host-guest interactions can be the unique method of spin manipulation in nanoscale. Strong changes in spin localization are generated when potential barriers between nanographitic units of activated carbon fibers are modified by interaction with adsorbed molecules. Stronger modifications occur when dipolar guest molecules are stimulated with external electric field. We report experimental results which show the influence of electric field on the spin localization in activated carbon fibers.

The paper describes the design, development, and investigation of a new type of Hall-effect sensors of a magnetic field made of graphene. The epitaxial growth of high-quality graphene structures was performed using a standard hot-wall CVD reactor, which allows for easy integration with an existing semiconductors production technologies. The functional properties of developed Hall-effect sensors based on graphene were investigated on special experimental setup utilizing Helmholtz coils as a source of reference magnetic field. Monolayer and quasi-free-standing bilayer graphene structures were tested. Results presented in the paper indicate that graphene is very promising material for development of Hall-effect sensors. Developed graphene Hall-effect sensor exhibit highly linear characteristics and high magnetic field sensitivity.
