Opis:
Today, it is important to know the behaviour of magnetic fluids applied in the power electrical machines, e.g. in power transformers, when exposed to an electric field. Besides their promising applications in high voltage engineering, they are of increasing interest from designed assembly and pattern formation point of view. The structure of such magnetic fluids is easily controllable by external magnetic fields. However, less attention has been paid to structural phenomena in magnetic fluids induced by electric fields. The core of this paper is dedicated to the experimental observation of a magnetic fluid droplet deformation in a steady electric field. The mutual relation between the deformation parameter and magnetic nanoparticles concentration is analysed. Spatio-temporal analysis of the droplet shape is presented in the paper. The phenomena of the droplet deformation were recorded by a camera. The detailed experimental procedure is presented. The method of deformation parameter calculation based on the linear pixel as the smallest-size unit in digital image is written. Finally, the relation between the deformation parameter and the nanoparticle volume concentration, as well as the time and magnitude of the DC field application are thoroughly evaluated. The results show that the deformation parameter decreases with increasing concentration at constant applied steady electric field but increases with increasing applied steady electric field.

Opis:
The static and dynamic properties of excitons and trions in a 80 nm wide $Cd_{1-x}Mn_xTe/Cd_{0.7}Mg_{0.3}$Te quantum well with extremely small Mn content (x=0.00027) have been studied by means of time-integrated and time-resolved photoluminescence experiment at low and elevated temperatures. The trion binding energy has been estimated to be 2.6 ± 0.8 meV. The exciton and trion lifetimes have been measured to be ≈ 150 ps, and ≈ 200 ps, respectively. The temperature dependence of both lifetimes together with the multicomponent character of the PL decay process suggest a spatial localization of excitons and trions in the investigated quantum well.

Opis:
Slow dynamics of the initially photoinduced state has been observed by the pump-probe type time-resolved reflection spectroscopy in the charge separated phase of the half-filled strong dimer system, $Et_2Me_2Sb[Pd(dmit)_2]_2$ (dmit = 1,3-dithiol-2-thione-4,5-dithiolate). We have succeeded to reproduce the probe photon energy dependence of the time profile qualitatively in the time delay range from 10 ps to 1 ns assuming the dynamical expansion of the domain of the photo-induced dimer-Mott insulating phase in the host charge-separated one.

Opis:
Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy was used to analyse the influence of a cationic surfactant from the group of morpholine derivatives on the conformational dynamics of $CH_2$ group in acyl chain of DSPC. The presence of the surfactant causes a decrease in the DSPC phase transition temperature. This result suggests that the surfactant interactions with phospholipid molecules disturb the lipid layers. The Fourier transform infrared measurements were supplemented with tests of the environmental toxicity of the surfactant used.

Opis:
Room temperature carrier kinetics has been investigated in the type-II W-design $AlSb//InAs//Ga_{0.80}In_{0.20}As_{0.15}Sb_{0.85}//InAs//AlSb$ quantum well emitting in the mid-infrared spectral range (at 2.54 μ m). A time-resolved reflectance technique, employing the non-degenerated pump-probe scheme, has been used as a main experimental tool. Based on that, a primary carrier relaxation time of 2.3±0.2 ps has been found, and attributed to the initial carrier cooling process within the quantum well states, while going towards the ground state via the carrier-optical phonon scattering mechanism. The decay of a quasi-equilibrium carrier population at the quantum well ground states is primarily governed by two relaxation channels: (i) radiative recombination within distribution of spatially separated electrons and holes that occurs in the nanosecond time scale, and (ii) the hole tunnelling out of its confining potential, characterized by a 240±10 ps time constant.

Opis:
When a plasma is subjected to a transversal magnetic field and its Hall parameter is non-negligible, it weakens the local electric conductivity value. If an electric discharge is created near a wall and the magnetic field decreases with distance, the electric discharge will follow a path that minimises the streamer's electric resistance, which could expel it far from the wall. One solution to ensure that it remains up against the wall is by inversion of the magnetic field's gradient by arranging that field B be minimal at the wall. In the experiment we are presenting, effected in a low-density gas, in order to obtain a high value for the Hall parameter using simple permanent magnets, we will show the remarkable efficiency of this parietal confinement method and present the main lines of the programme of which this experiment forms part and whose successful realization will be the demonstration of the feasibility of the displacement of disk-shaped MHD aerodynes at supersonic speed without creating either shock waves or turbulence, an approach that we have already set out in numerous publications.

Opis:
We published the first description of a disk-shaped MHD aerodyne, combining pulsed ionization and induction systems. Magnetic pressure tends to push away electric discharge, in region of low magnetic field. In the seventies the efficiency of the wall confinement, due to the inversion of the magnetic pressure gradient was demonstrated. It is time now for ambitious MHD projects. We have planned experimental studies of MHD acceleration, combining pulsed ionization, wall confinement and induction system. We intend to study pulsed ionization systems based on wall micro discharges or microwaves action. We present the different features of the project.
