Opis:
The NMC (New Media Consortium) Horizon Report in 2014 listed 3D printing as a technology that is two to three years from widespread adoption. In this report, 3D printing was also classified as a disruptive technology especially for the manufacturing sector. A review of the current literature ranging from journal publications to news reports of how 3D printing technologies are changing the way teachers teach and students learn is the focus of this report. 3D printing technologies include 3D printers, 3D scanners and the recently introduced 3Doodler pen. The widespread rise in popularity of 3D printing technologies is directly correlated with their availability at a lower cost in the consumer market. 3D printing technologies are causing educators to refocus attention from the digital or virtual environment to the real world, where 3D printed objects can be touched and felt. The stl (stereolithography) file is the common file type used for 3D printing and although CAD (computer-aided design) software is the ideal software for making stl files, there are other software choices for producing CAD-free stl files like PhotoToMesh and 123D Catch. How 3D printing technologies are currently being used across the curriculum by teachers as well as students demonstrates the increasing interest in and success with its usage in the learning environment. The growing interest in making and using 3D printed tactile learning objects by the blind or visually impaired points to a future where image-intensive courses and textbooks will have available 3D prints when touch is the primary method for learning. 3D printing and related technologies appear poised to become even more significant as it becomes clearer from the work of early adopters how best these technologies can be employed for teaching and learning.

Opis:
The manufacturing of machine parts with additive methods (AM) is of significant importance in modern industry. The development of 3D printers and all 3D printing technology is impressive. The ability to make parts quickly and relatively cheaply with AM gives excellent opportunities in terms of e.g., shortening the production preparation time. Proper selection of printing parameters allows for a significant reduction of printing time and production costs. Unfortunately, this has different consequences. Due to the course of the printing process and the parameters that can be set, the same product produced with different parameters has different mechanical properties - mainly different strength. This paper presents the impact of 3D printing parameters on the strength of manufactured parts. Strength tests were carried out on samples made in accordance with DIN EN ISO 527-1:2019. The samples were printed in technology FDM from three different materials, i.e. PLA (completely biodegradable), PETG (recycled material), and Smart ABS (material with minimal shrinkage). The tested samples were made in three levels of print filling - 10%, 30%, and 60% and with different types of filling - line, mesh, and honeycomb. A series of static tensile tests were carried out to determine the strength of the samples produced with different printing parameters. Thanks to the obtained test results, it is possible to select the optimal printing parameters depending on the forecast load of the manufactured parts.

Opis:
This paper concerns the problem of intellectual property law in the context of 3D printing technology, that becomes more popular. In the age of universal digital communication and constant growth of importance of digital information goods, intellectual property is becoming a cause of dispute between different social groups. This is partly because of the impact of informal institutions formed during development of the Internet and social movements postulating free access to information (including the digital information goods). Other important issue is also the problem of public copyright infringement in order to achieve private benefits. Conflicts concerning enforcement of the intellectual property right are related to substantially all of the digitized content: written word, music, movies and software. On one hand the decrease of the costs of copying equipment, allows an average consumer to buy such a printer. On the other hand the increase of the Internet bandwidth makes this phenomenon more significant. 3D printing technology is the next stage of self-production process. This technology goes beyond the abstract world of information to a real world of physical goods. Thus, the violation of property rights refers now not only to information goods, but also to physical products. The authors put the thesis that the development of 3D printing technology will intensify the conflicts and will increase the number of abuses in area of intellectual property law. In this article the authors discuss the development of 3D printing technology, which originally was connected only with so-called rapid prototyping in the product development process. However, with cheaper equipment, this technology became available to a larger number of users who have used it to make the final products. This process was simultaneous to research projects conducted by academic institutions such as RepRap and Fab@Home. The main goal of RepRap project was to create self-replicating machine. The RepRap 3D printer allows to print more 3D printing devices. This project is regulated by copyleft licenses allowing to manipulate within the files with a legal authors permission. Extending the reflections on copyright issue the authors focused on the licenses that allow to share the projects files required for the creation of physical objects. Copyleft licenses are sometimes given illegally. Some of the project files contain elements that are under copyright restriction. This situation was discovered during the analysis of the content shared between users of 3D printers portals. This situation creates a great threat to the enterprises engaged in luxury goods because in this business the main value is the idea – the design. Easy replication provided by 3D printing technology enforces more effective copyright regulations or even modification of the form of distribution of items protected by law. The development of 3D printing technology will inevitably increase the number of conflicts and abu

In recent years, a rapid increase in the use of three-dimensional (3D) printing technologies in medicine, especially in the manufacturing of the diagnostic models, can be observed. In some cases, there is a need to fabricate transparent models that allow visualization of internal structures of the object. Unfortunately, techniques used to manufacture such models are often very expensive and time-consuming. The above-mentioned issues were the motivation for developing a new method of fabrication transparent models for visualization of internal structures for planning surgical treatments. This paper presents the process of making transparent models using the newly developed method – the stacked layers method. In order to compare this new method and one of the most common 3D printing technologies – fused deposition modeling (FDM) – the models for two medical cases using both of these methods were fabricated. As a result of this work, it can be concluded that the stacked layers method provides faster and cheaper way of making transparent medical models. The main features of fabrication process that have a huge impact on quality of the models made by new method were pointed. The results of this study suggest that models fabricated with the use of this method can be useful as a diagnostic tool in medical applications for planning surgical treatments.

Transition of the real world into the virtual world has been ongoing in online and on-ground classrooms and labs for many years. But the more the world goes virtual, the more difficult it becomes for those who are blind or visually impaired to participate fully in the learning process. The main thrust of this report is to explore how 3D printing and the use of conductive filament can begin to reverse that process by making 3D printed talking tactile learning objects that can generate audio when touched after being placed on the surface of an iPad or other tablet computer. Examples of talking tactile learning objects from STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) disciplines will be presented with a focus on how the design of 3D printed STEAM learning objects can lead to a common learning object template model. The template can be designed to serve as a learning tool not only for a blind or visually impaired student but also can work as well for a sighted student or a teacher, aide or parent demonstrating how universal design principles can drive the learning object production process.

This article analyzes the influence of layer height on the tensile strength of PLA specimens printed in the Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) technology. The maximum breaking force of specimens with 30% and 100% infill density was determined at layer height of 0.05 mm, 0.1 mm, 0.2 mm and 0.3 mm. In the case of 30% infill, the highest value of the force was obtained for a layer with a height of 0.05 mm (which corresponds to 22.7 MPa), and for a 100% infill for a layer of 0.2 (which corresponds to 40 MPa). Over this layer height of 0.2 mm is the most poly-optimal due to the time prints and strength (which corresponds to 19.7 MPa).

Background: For about 20 years we have been observing the development of three-dimensional (3D) printing. The aim of this study was to systematize the current knowledge on the use of 3D printing technology in neurosurgery and to aetmpt an outline the future paths of its development. Material and methods: The analysis was based on English-language literature from 2017-2021 indexed in the Mendeley and Scopus databases. Results: The application of 3D printing in neurosurgery concerns: 1) teaching students, 2) training of residents neurosurgeons, 3) individualized surgery planning, 4) dedicated cranial and spinal implants, 5) the future of 3D printing in neurosurgical implantology. There were 5 main neurosurgery subtopics in which 3D printing was used: “vascular neurosurgery” (31%), “skull, cranial neurosurgery” (22.4%), “neuro-oncology” (19.3%), “spine” (14.3%) and “others” (13%). The number of published articles has been steadily increasing by 11-33% annually. Conclusion: 3D printing has an enormous potential for clinical use and in the we will continue to observe its dynamic development. In neurosurgery 3D prints are currently most commonly used for didactic purposes as detailed anatomical models, for training residents and young surgeons and by specialists for the simulation of complex or innovative surgeries. The future of the use of additive 3D printing in neurosurgery lies in the biological 3D printing, the creation of artifcial organs and the development of biological implants in tissue engineering.
