Opis:
The Rayleigh scatte ring of the Mössbauer radiation is a less common technique used in the study of the properties of condensed matter. The detection of the scattered radiation via the nuclear resonance absorption, with an energy resolution of the order of 10$\text{}^{-8}$ eV makes this technique very sensitive to dynamics changes. The results of our studies by the Rayleigh scattering of the Mössbauer radiation on pyrolytic graphite (C) and rubidium tetrachlorozincate (Rb$\text{}_{2}$ZnCl$\text{}_{4}$) are reported. The contribution of the coherent inelastic scattering to the total intensity in C(002) is presented like a consequence of the coupling motions of C atoms in the hexagonal plane. The normal-incommensurate phase transition in Rb$\text{}_{2}$ZnCl$\text{}_{4}$ is discussed in connection with the photon-phonon interaction.

Opis:
Metamict minerals contain radioactive elements that degrade the crystal structure of the minerals. The degradation occurs primarily through progressive overlapping recoil nuclei collision cascades from α-decays of $\text{}^{238}U$, $\text{}^{232}Th$, $\text{}^{235}U$ and their daughter products. We report the results of $\text{}^{57}Fe$ Mössbauer spectroscopy, gamma-ray spectrometry and microprobe analysis of three partially metamict allanites, $(Ca,Ce,REE)_2(Fe^{2+},Fe^{3+})$$(Al,Fe^{3+})_2O[Si_2O_7][SiO_4](OH)$ where REE stands for rare earth elements. The samples were collected in pegmatites from Reno, Nevada (USA), Franklin, New Jersey (USA) and Nya Bastnas Field (Sweden). The absorbed α-dose for these minerals was found to range from $5.8×10^{14}$ α-decay/mg for the allanite from Reno to $1.9×10^{15}$ α-decay/mg for the allanite from Franklin. The Mössbauer spectra show a decrease in the $Fe^{2+}$ doublet intensity with increasing absorbed α-dose. We also observe an increase in the line widths of the $Fe^{2+}$ and $Fe^{3+}$ doublets with increasing absorbed α-dose.

The acetone based electrolyte was used for electrodeposition of iron layers on the copper substrate. Two types of surfaces of the deposited layer can be obtained: shiny or black. Magnetic properties of the near-surface regions were studied by the conversion electron Mössbauer spectroscopy. The conversion electron Mössbauer spectra revealed apparent dependence of magnetic moments' arrangement on the deposition time. Those results were compared with the magnetization measurements. Composition of black coating was examined by the X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy measurements.

Fine strontium hexaferrite particles were prepared by the low temperature auto-combustion method. Aqueous solution of the corresponding metal salts and a combustible co-reactant compound - glycine were used as initial precursor. The resulting powders were calcined at various temperatures from 750°C up to 1100°C. The microstructure and magnetic properties were investigated by the Mössbauer spectroscopy, thermomagnetic analysis, scanning electron microscopy, and vibrating magnetometer. The particles of sizes less than 1 μm have monophasic hexagonal structure. Coercivity $H_c$≈400 kA/m, specific saturation polarization $J_{s-m} ≈ 72×10^{-6} Tm^3 kg^{-1}$ and remanence polarization $J_{s-r} ≈ 43×10^{-6} T m^3 kg^{-1}$ were achieved for the Sr ferrite annealed at 850°C for 6 h.

Nanocrystalline alloys of $Fe_{86.5}Zr_{6.5}Cu_1B_6$ and $Fe_{40.5}Co_{40.5}Nb_7B_{12}$ were measured by the Mössbauer spectrometry in the weak external magnetic field of 0.5 T. In these conditions the most sensitive parameters of the Mössbauer spectra are the intensities of 2nd and 5th lines and the values of internal magnetic field showed rather small changes. The amorphous part of the sample is more sensitive to the external influence than the nanocrystalline one. The behavior of nanocrystalline alloys under weak external magnetic field was analyzed within influence of interparticles interactions on the magnetic parameters.

Opis:
Nanocrystalline $(Fe_{1-x}Ni_{x})_{81}Nb_{7}B_{12}$ (x=0, 0.25, 0.5, 0.75) and Vitroperm alloys were studied by Mössbauer spectroscopy after neutron irradiation at fluences of $10^{16} n$/$cm^{2}$ and $10^{17} n$/$cm^{2}$. From structure analyses, we have identified ferromagnetic bcc-FeNi in nanocrystalline state and partly paramagnetic $(Fe-Ni)_{23}B_{6}$ phase. Neutron irradiation had an influence on the magnetic microstructure, which is manifested in the change of the Mössbauer parameters, such as the direction of net magnetic moment, the intensity of internal magnetic field and the volumetric fraction. The results indicate that the changes of the microscopic magnetic parameters, induced by neutron irradiation, depend on iron and nickel content. Significant radiation damage started at neutron fluence of $10^{17} n$/$cm^{2}$.

Opis:
In this paper we identified iron phases in three different samples of highly corrosion-resistant steel LC200N using the Mössbauer spectrometry which is particularly suited method for this purpose. Special emphasis is put upon magnetically active crystalline phases. The samples had different thermal history: (1) hardened, (2) hardened with consequent rapid quenching in liquid nitrogen, (3) non-hardened and prepared in a disc form with two sides ("as cut" and polished). Both ferritic magnetic phases and non-magnetic austenite phase were found in these samples. Relative content ratios between these phases were determined for each type of the samples and their respective sides. Higher amount of magnetic phases was found in non-hardened sample and on polished sides of all samples in general. The elemental characterization was accomplished by neutron activation analysis.

The ferromagnetic Fe-based amorphous alloys were studied due to properties for soft magnetic applications. Depending on different Nb addition, the formation of crystalline phases after annealing of amorphous $Fe_{80-x}B_{20}Nb_{x}$ (x = 4,6,10) alloys was studied. The crystallization products as well as the phase structure were determined using the Mössbauer spectrometry combined with differential scanning calorimetry and magnetic measurements. The addition of Nb caused a shift of crystallization process towards higher temperatures and induced changes in coercive force and decreased the saturation magnetization. It was found that Nb addition changed the crystallization process from single crystallization for Fe₇₆B₂₀Nb₄ alloy to binary crystallization in the Fe₇₄B₂₀Nb₆ and Fe₇₀B₂₀Nb₁₀ glasses. The annealing process at the onset crystallization temperature induced complex phase formation including the α-Fe, Fe₃B, and Fe₂B phases for alloys x=4, 6.

Opis:
Nanocrystalline (Fe₃Ni₁)₈₁Nb₇B₁₂ alloy was irradiated by electron beams of doses up to 4 MGy. Irradiation had an influence on the magnetic microstructure of the studied alloys. It has manifested as a change in the mean orientation of local magnetization, intensity of the internal magnetic field, and distribution function of induction of internal magnetic field. All these parameters were determined from the measured Mössbauer spectra. The mean orientation of local magnetization was the most sensitive parameter. Structural changes were not identified by the Mössbauer spectroscopy and by X-ray diffraction. The results indicated that the changes of the microscopic magnetic parameters induced by irradiation depend on the phase composition. Intensity of internal magnetic field also contributes to resistivity of alloy against radiation.

Magnetic microstructure of iron contained in selected biological tissues is characterized and mutually compared. We have studied three types of biological samples prepared from human brain, human and horse spleen. Original samples were lyophilized (dried in a vacuum) thus providing powder forms. As a principal method of study, ⁵⁷Fe Mössbauer spectrometry in transmission mode was used. The Mössbauer spectrometry experiments were performed at room ( ≈300 K) and at liquid helium (4.2 K) temperature. At room temperature Mössbauer spectra show doublet-like features. Such behaviour indicates possible presence of nanoparticles with fluctuating magnetic moments that acquire arbitrary positions. On the other hand, low temperature Mössbauer spectrometry measurements demonstrate significant contribution of sextets that confirmed occurrence of blocked magnetic moments of iron-containing particles. Different relative contributions of magnetic components in the low temperature spectra for the three inspected biological tissues suggest differences in the blocking temperatures of the magnetic nanoparticles present in them.

Opis:
Fe-based amorphous alloys were characterized by X-ray diffraction, transmission Mössbauer spectroscopy and vibrating sample magnetometry. The studies were performed on (Fe_{0.75}B_{0.15}Si_{0.1})_{100-x}Zr_{x} (x=0, 1, 3) metallic glasses in the form of ribbons. The glassy samples were prepared by the "melt spinning" technique in argon protective atmosphere. The XRD patterns show the broad diffraction halo that is typical for amorphous Fe-based alloys. The Mössbauer spectroscopy allows to study the local environments of the Fe atoms in the glassy state, showing the changes in the amorphous structure due to the changing of Zr addition. From hysteresis loops obtained from vibrating sample magnetometry measurements, coercive force and saturation magnetization were determined versus different Zr content. The obtained magnetic properties allow to classify the studied amorphous alloys in as-cast state as soft magnetic materials.
