Opis:
In Sir 14:20 – 15:10 Sirach continues his teachings concerning the acquisition of wisdom (cf. 1:1-10; 4:16-19 and 6:18-37) (the exegetico-theological analysis conducted in this article is based on the Greek version of the fragment). In the pericope the author presents the sage as a model and an example to follow for all those who wish to acquire wisdom. The pericope under analysis here comprises two parts. The present article focuses on the first one (14:20-27), in which Sirach concentrates on the actions the sage undertakes to acquire wisdom. The second section (15:1-10) in turn makes use of three metaphors to present the actions of wisdom throughout the process of a man’s search for it. The first part of the pericope (14:20-27) can be further divided into three sections. In the first one (14:20-21) Sirach praises the man who seeks wisdom, emphasizing his intellectual engagement (in the form of contemplating or pondering) as the basis for reaching the aim and finding wisdom. The second part (14:22-25) presents the actions aimed at acquiring wisdom with the use of three metaphors: the first is that of hunting (14:22), and the second – that of spying (14:23), even though verses 21:23-24 include a prohibition and a harsh reprimand against peeping or eavesdropping. The third metaphor, the most developed of all three, refers to camping next to wisdom (14:24-25). In the final section of part one (14:26-27) Sirach presents the promises made to those who strive to acquire wisdom, namely protection from danger and living close to wisdom.

The problem of motion of holes on a square lattice of antiferromagnetically ordered spins is considered. An overview of the theory of hole dynamics in the antiferromagnetic background is presented. Motion of a single hole is rather well understood both by numerical and analytical methods. For small but finite concentration of holes a treatment analogous to the standard polaron theory is discussed starting with an exact mapping of the t-J Hamiltonian into holon and pseudospin variables.

We apply the concept of generalized (almost localized) Fermi liquid and associated with it unconventional superconductivity with Cooper pairs composed of quasiparticles with the spin dependent masses (in an applied field) and with the effective field, both induced by electron correlations. The pairing among quasiparticles takes place either in reciprocal space (Sect. 2) or in real space (Sect. 3) and is induced by the kinetic exchange of either superexchange (in the generic narrow-band situation) or Kondo-type interaction (in the Kondo-lattice limit of the periodic Anderson model). While the main features of this type of Fermi liquid have been introduced earlier, we present here a picture which is applicable to both heavy-fermion and high-$T_{c}$ superconductivity within a single narrow-band representation of correlated states. Our approach introduces a set of additional concepts (spin-dependent masses, effective fields induced by electron correlations), for which the Landau concept of the Fermi liquid represents still a workable scheme. In the limit of the Kondo lattice, we present the phase diagram incorporating the Fulde-Ferrell-Larkin-Ovchinnikov phase within the BCS-type of pairing, whereas in that of the t-J model we show that the proper choice of renormalization factors and constraints is crucial for the mean-field description of the superconducting state.

We applied the Perdew-Burke-Ernzerhof hybrid functional (PBE0) within the density functional theory (DFT) to study electronic properties of the heavy fermion Kondo semiconductor $SmB_{6}$. The calculation of the Hartee-Fock exchange contribution to the exact-exchange within the atomic sphere approximation for bulk $SmB_{6}$ represents a computationally efficient, parameter-free method that provides good qualitative and quantitative agreement with photoemission experiments. Specifically, we found an energy difference of 7 eV between the occupied and unoccupied correlated Sm f states. Furthermore, the spin-orbit coupling yields a splitting of the occupied Sm f states of about 1 eV in agreement with recent angular resolved photoemission spectroscopy. The electronic spectrum in the vicinity of the X point shows a hybridization between the Sm 5d conduction band and the localized Sm 4f states at the Fermi level. This might lead to a transport gap opening.

The uranium-gold diantimonide $UAuSb_2$ belongs to a numerous family of ternary compounds crystallizing in a tetragonal structure of the $HfCuSi_2$-type (space group P4/nmm). In this paper the results of magnetization, electrical resistivity and thermopower measured along the main crystallographic directions are reported. Two magnetic transitions, a ferromagnetic one at $T_C$ =31 K and probably an antiferromagnetic one at $T_N$ = 43 K were found. The spontaneous magnetization at 1.9 K amounts about 0.8 $μ_B$ for B ∥ c-axis. Electrical resistivity for j ⊥ c-axis exhibits a $T^2$ exp(-Δ/kT) dependence at low temperatures and a Kondo effect at higher temperatures above $T_N$. The thermopower S for both main crystallographic directions shows a maximum at the temperature close to $T_C$ and the lack of any anomaly at $T_N$.

In this brief overview we discuss the principal features of real space pairing as expressed via corresponding low-energy (t-J or periodic Anderson-Kondo) effective Hamiltonian, as well as consider concrete properties of those unconventional superconductors. We also rise the basic question of statistical consistency within the so-called renormalized mean-field theory. In particular, we provide the phase diagrams encompassing the stable magnetic and superconducting states. We interpret real space pairing as correlated motion of fermion pair coupled by short-range exchange interaction of magnitude J comparable to the particle renormalized band energy ≈ tx, where x is the carrier number per site. We also discuss briefly the difference between the real-space and the paramagnon-mediated sources of superconductivity. The paper concentrates both on recent novel results obtained in our research group, as well as puts the theoretical concepts in a conceptual as well as historical perspective. No slave-bosons are required to formulate the present approach.

The heat capacity in the applied magnetic field up to 9 T, susceptibility and magnetization of polycrystalline $CeCu_{4}Ga$ are presented. Magnetic ordering was not observed down to 2 K. For temperature T < 200 K a Curie-Weiss behavior is observable giving an effective magnetic moment $μ_\text{eff}$ =2.53 $μ_{B}$/f.u. The experimental value of $μ_\text{eff}$ is close to the calculated one for a free $Ce^{3+}$ ion ($μ_\text{eff}$ = 2.54 $μ_{B}$/f.u.), thus indicating the presence of well localized magnetic moments carried by the stable $Ce^{3+}$ ions. At low temperatures the electronic heat capacity coefficient value depends strongly on the temperature range used for the extrapolation and applied magnetic field. We observe a typical heavy fermion behavior with γ value of about 380 mJ $\text{mol}^{-1} K^{-2}$ obtained from extrapolation to T = 0 K of the temperature range above 7 K. However, extrapolation of the lowest temperatures range yields the γ value of 3.3 J $\text{mol}^{-1} K^{-2}$.

Using the slave-boson method in its spin- and charge-rotational invariant representation we determine stability of the superconducting state in the Hubbard model with correlated hopping. In general the term with correlated hopping violates electron-hole symmetry, however, in the special case when the correlated hopping integral X is equal to the uncorrelated hopping integral t the electron-hole symmetry remains. We investigate this case and show that correlations induced by onsite Coulomb interactions U yield to the normal state with exactly single occupied sites (corresponding to |U=∞⟩). The phase diagram of the superconducting state is determined for the different electron concentration n. At the half-filled band (n=1) a direct transition from the Mott insulator to the superconducting state occurs.

The paper is concerned with investigation of the influence of an intense high frequency electric field and relativistic warm plasma waveguide on electrostatic oscillations of nonuniform bounded plasma. The stabilizing effect of a strong high frequency (pump) electrical field on beam-plasma interaction in a cylindrical relativistic warm plasma waveguide is discussed. A new mathematical technique "separation method" was applied to the two-fluid plasma model to separate the equations, which describe the system, into two parts, time and space parts. Plasma electrons are considered to have a relativistic, thermal velocity. It is shown that a high frequency electric field has no essential influence on dispersion characteristics of unstable surface waves excited in a relativistic warm plasma waveguide by a low-density electron beam. The region of instability is only slightly narrowing and the growth rate decreases by a small parameter and this result was reduced comparing to cold, nonrelativistic plasma. Also, it is found that the plasma electrons did not affect the solution of the space part of the problem.

In the lecture the theory of spin polarons is reviewed on the basis of its analogy with the theory of lattice polarons. The energy dispersion curve for a single polaron in a two-dimensional antiferromagnetic square lattice is calculated in the self-consistent Born approximation. Also in self-consistent Born approximation the energy of a pair of interacting spin polarons is calculated. The results of calculations for realistic values of parameters of the model lead to the conclusion that pairing of spin polarons is not a likely mechanism of superconductivity in cuprates.

The electronic structure of the ternary CeTIn (T = Ni, Cu, Pd, Au) compounds was investigated by means of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Our interest was aimed mainly to the valence bands and the Ce3d core levels of investigated compounds. Analysis of the valence bands indicates that they are mainly determined by the Tnd band, whereas a share of the R4f states can be estimated to be about a few percent only. The analysis of the differential valence bands spectra between CeTIn and LaTIn analogues suggests that the Ce4f$\text{}^{1}$ ground states shift deeper below the Fermi level with an increase in the 4f level occupation factor. The analysis of the Ce3d spectra made on the basis of the Gunnarsson-Schönhammer model indicates the hybridization parameter equal to 148 meV for CeNiIn, 45 meV for CeCuIn, 177 meV for CePdIn, and 123 meV for CeAuIn.

The results showed that the valence band in these compounds is formed by the Pt 5d and In 5s and 5p states. The band calculations with spin-orbit coupling have shown that the Ce 4f peaks consist of two peaks above the Fermi level that correspond to the $Ce 4 f_{7/2}$ and $4 f_{5/2}$ doublet and wide peaks corresponding to the La 4f states. A characteristic feature of strongly correlated electrons is the appearance of low energy scales. They may result in heavy-quasiparticle excitations at low temperatures. Our understanding of these excitations has been considerably modified over the last few years. While it was originally thought that the Kondo effect is the sole source of heavy-fermion behavior, two additional mechanisms have been identified meanwhile. One is based on the Zeeman effect and occurs in Nd$\text{}_{2-x}$Ce$\text{}_{x}$CuO$\text{}_{4}$. The other is operative in the semimetal Yb$\text{}_{4}$As$\text{}_{3}$ and is based on nearly half filled one-dimensional Hubbard chains. In all three cases the low energy excitations result from spin degrees of freedom.

In the limit n → ∞ we obtain the Ginzburg-Landau functional. On this basis we explore the crossover from weak (BCS) to strong coupling (Bose-Einstein condensation) superconductivity. The associated self-consistent equations for the Ginzburg-Landau parameters are similar to those of the T-matrix approach. The evolution of the band structure with increasing interaction strength is studied and correlated with the behavior of the pair propagator and the transition temperature. We find that the pairing interaction creates a new band which moves downwards in energy as the interaction strength increases and separates into a lower Hubbard band when the interaction strength becomes comparable to the band width. In the strong coupling regime, a third band with small spectral weight is also found in between the lower and upper Hubbard bands.

We analyze the evolution from the weak coupling (BCS-like limit) to the strong coupling limit of tightly bound local pairs in the 2D asymmetric attractive Hubbard model, in the presence of the Zeeman magnetic field (h). The broken symmetry Hartree approximation is used. We also apply the Kosterlitz-Thouless scenario to determine the phase coherence temperatures. We obtain that for the spin dependent hopping integrals $(t^{↑} ≠ t^{↓})$ the homogeneous polarized superfluid $(SC_{M})$ phase in the ground state for the strong attraction and lower filling can be stabilized. We find a topological quantum phase transition (the Lifshitz type) from the unpolarized superfluid phase $(SC_0)$ to $SC_{M}$ and tricritical point in the (h - μ) and spin polarization (P) vs. attraction (U < 0) ground state phase diagrams. The finite temperatures phase diagrams for $t^{↑} ≠ t^{↓}$ are constructed.

Full potential linearized augmented plane wave band structure calculations were performed for hexagonal $RENi_5$ (RE = rare earth) compounds in order to investigate reproducibility of lanthanide contraction by ab initio studies. The a and c parameters were optimised using a paraboloid fit, starting from the same initial values for all compounds studied. The trend in lattice parameters across the RE series obtained from the calculations was found to be in general agreement with experimental data. A comparison of results obtained by generalized gradient approximation and generalized gradient approximation with additional Coulomb correlations calculations is presented for several double counting schemes.

We report on studies of physical properties of the two compounds $CeFe_2Al_8$ and $CeCo_2Al_8$ in which we have found varying degrees of electronic correlational phenomena. No magnetic ordering was detected down to 0.4 K in either of the two compounds. At elevated temperatures an incoherent Kondo interaction between the Ce 4f-electron and the conduction electrons is prevalent in both compounds. $CeCo_2Al_8$ exhibits a stable 4f-electron magnetic moment, but in $CeFe_2Al_8$ an intermediate-valent state prevails near room temperature that eventually transforms into a Fermi-liquid ground state. The low-temperature specific heat of $CeCo_2Al_8$ shows typical strongly correlated electron behaviour and a - logT upturn in its electronic specific heat below about 10 K.

We investigate the superfluid properties of d-wave pairing symmetry within the Extended Hubbard Model (EHM) in a magnetic field. We analyze the temperature and magnetic field dependencies of the order parameter. We find that in the two-dimensional case, the spatially homogeneous spin polarized superfluidity (SC(P≠0)) is stable in the weak coupling limit, at T=0, as opposed to the s-wave pairing symmetry case in 2D. We construct the ground state phase diagrams both for fixed chemical potential and electron concentration. Furthermore, we obtain the temperature vs. magnetic field and temperature vs. spin polarization phase diagrams.

Two electrons on a lattice pose an interesting problem which can be solved exactly. When the effective interactions are strong enough, the bound states are formed. The properties of such bound pairs in an extended Hubbard model are examined for both signs of nearest neighbor hopping integral t. We derive the Anderson-Kondo lattice model by applying canonical perturbation expansion for the Anderson-lattice model in direct space. The transformation is carried out up to the fourth order by a modified Schrieffer-Wolff transformation: we separate the part of hybridization term responsible for the high-energy processes (involving the largest in-the-system intraatomic Coulomb interaction between f electrons) and replace it with the virtual processes in higher orders. The higher-order processes lead to three separate exchange interactions. The obtained Hamiltonian contains both the Kondo (f-c) and the superexchange (f-f) interactions, as well as a residual hybridization responsible for the heavy-quasiparticle formation. This effective Hamiltonian can be used to analyze the magnetic or the paired states, as well their coexistence in heavy-fermion systems. The magnitudes of both the Kondo exchange and the superexchange integrals are estimated as a function of bare hybridization magnitude.

This work presents studies of the valence band of two Kondo lattice systems: $Ce_2Co_{0.8}Si_{3.2}$, which is paramagnetic with the Kondo temperature $T_{K}$ ≈50 K and $Ce_2RhSi_3$, which is antiferromagnetic below $T_{N}$=4.5 K and exhibits $T_{K}$ ≈9 K. The photoemission spectra, which are obtained with photon energy tuned to Ce 4d-4f resonance, reveal a Kondo peak at the Fermi energy $(E_{F})$, its spin-orbit splitting partner at 0.24 eV and a broad maximum related to Ce $f^0$ final state. The spectra indicate that Kondo peak has a higher intensity for $Ce_2Co_{0.8}Si_{3.2}$. The off-resonance photoemission data reveal that a maximum in the 3d electron density of states is shifted towards $E_{F}$ for $Ce_2Co_{0.8}Si_{3.2}$ as compared to $Ce_2RhSi_3$. Full-potential local-orbital calculations were realized with local spin density approach +U approach for 213 stoichiometry. They show that a higher density of states near $E_{F}$ is observed for $Ce_2CoSi_3$. The calculations also reveal the existing tendencies for antiferromagnetic and ferromagnetic ground states in a case of $Ce_2RhSi_3$ and $Ce_2CoSi_3$, respectively.

We review here the magnetic properties of some strongly correlated electron systems and especially cerium and uranium compounds. The normal Kondo lattice model with a localized S=1/2 spin can account for the Kondo-magnetism competition observed in cerium or ytterbium systems, while the underscreened Kondo lattice model with a localized S=1 spin can well account for the ferromagnetism - Kondo coexistence observed in some uranium compounds such as UTe. Then, we discuss the spin glass-Kondo competition and present the resulting phase diagrams showing spin glass, Kondo and magnetically ordered phases observed in disordered heavy fermion cerium alloys such as $CeNi_xCu_{1-x}$ alloys.

Good agreement was observed between the calculations, the experimental, and the theoretical values. The results indicate that the process in Monte Carlo code can be followed to determine the equivalency of other materials at several energies. Three shielding factors such as half-value layer, tenth-value layer, and mean free path were calculated at all considered gamma-ray energies.

Recently a new universal relation between superfluid densityρ$\text{}_{s}$ andσ$\text{}_{dc}$T$\text{}_{c}$, where σ$\text{}_{dc}$ is direct current conductivity and T$\text{}_{c}$ - superconducting critical temperature, was found by Homes et al. (Nature 430, 539 (2004)). The theoretical derivation of the relation based on BCS theory is correct only qualitatively. In the present paper this relation is calculated theoretically, using Hartree-Fock approximation and second-order perturbation theory. It is found that although correct qualitatively, quantitatively the results are too small. Inclusion of the second neighbor hopping improves the results.

The dilution of Ce or the T and M elements allowed us to follow the physical properties evolution employing the measurements of the heat capacity, dc magnetic susceptibility, frequency dependent ac magnetic susceptibility, magnetization relaxation, inelastic neutron scattering and also the X-ray photoemission spectroscopy. It is shown that the Mn rich compounds lean towards the spin glass behavior. For the compounds governed by the close to localization Ce 4f states the effect of the crystal electric field has been studied. It has been shown that the spin glass-like behavior can significantly influence the physics of the $CeT_4M$ compounds.

As a first step we find the eigenvalues E$\text{}_{α}$ and eigenvectors |E$\text{}_{α}$〉 of the dimer and we represent each partial Hamiltonian E$\text{}_{α}$|E $\text{}_{α}$〉〈 E$\text{}_{α}$| (α=1,2,...,16) in the second quantization with the use of the Hubbard and spin operators. Each dimer energy level possesses its own Hamiltonian describing different two-site interactions which can be active only in the case when the level will be occupied by the electrons. A typical feature is the appearance of two generalized t-J interactions ascribed to two different energy levels which do not vanish even for U=J$\text{}^{(1)}$=J{(2)}=V=0 and their coupling constants are equal to ±t in this case. In the large linebreak U-limit for J$\text{}^{(1)}$=J$\text{}^{(2)}$=V=0 there is only one t-J interaction with coupling constant equal to 4t$\text{}^{2}$/|U| as in the case of a real lattice. The competition between ferromagnetism, antiferromagnetism and superconductivity (intrasite and intersite pairings) is also a typical feature of the model because it persists in the case U=J$\text{}^{(1)}$=J$\text{}^{(2)}$=V=0 and t≢0. The same types of the electronic, competitive interactions are scattered between different energy levels and therefore their thermodynamical activities are dependent on the occupation of these levels. It qualitatively explains the origin of the phase diagram of the model. We consider also a real lattice as a set of interacting dimers to show that the competition between magnetism and superconductivity seems to be universal for fermionic lattice models.
