Opis:
The distributions of ²²⁶Ra, ²³²Th, ⁴⁰K and ¹³⁷Cs activity concentrations were determined using a high-purity germanium detector in uncultivated surface soil samples collected from Zonguldak. The range of ²²⁶Ra, ²³²Th, ⁴⁰K and ¹³⁷Cs activity concentrations varied from 10.5 ± 2.0 to 98.0 ± 4.3 Bq kg¯¹ (mean value 28.8± 4 Bq kg¯¹), from 12.9 ± 3.4 to 53.2 ± 5.1 Bq kg¯¹ (mean value 29.6± 3 Bq kg¯¹), from 190 ± 22 to 808 ± 43 Bq kg¯¹ (mean value 395± 31 Bq kg¯¹) and from <0.5 to 47.1± 3.8 Bq kg¯¹ (mean value 12.5± 2 Bq kg¯¹), respectively. In addition, the mean outdoor absorbed dose rates in air (terrestrial, terrestrial+cosmic), annual effective dose equivalent, radium equivalent activity and external hazard index were found to be 48 nGy h¯¹ (terrestrial), 56 nGy h¯¹ (terrestrial+cosmic), 58 μSv y¯¹, 101 Bq kg¯¹ and 0.27, respectively. The evaluated excess lifetime cancer risks (ELCRs) varied from 0.13× 10¯³ to 0.36× 10¯³ with a mean value of 0.20× 10¯³.

Opis:
The study was carried out to determine radioactivity concentrations in surface soil samples of the city of Edirne in connection with the potential radiological hazards due to Chernobyl event. The natural radionuclide ((226)Ra, (232)Th and (40)K) contents were determined for nine different locations in nine different towns of the Edirne city. Radiation levels were measured. Natural beta-ray activity was also determined for the same locations. The average estimated activity values were determined and compared with reported values for other cities in Turkey and also for many countries of the world. The studied areas do not pose radiological risks to the inhabitants due to harmful effects of the ionizing radiation from the natural radioactivity of the soil.

Opis:
Urban water resources are some of the main places where microorganisms can reproduce and where people can get easily infected. For these reasons, pools must be sterilized continuously. This can only be done if the water quality of the pool is in accordance with the standards of the Ministry of Forestry and Water Affairs. Monitoring water quality in real-time gives an instant response opportunity. With the software prepared using the. Net architecture, real-time temperature, pH, and chlorine content values of a pool were transferred to a database. Swimming pool water quality was then evaluated and compared with the Ministry of Forestry and Water Affairs standards via the expert system technique, which is one of the artificial intelligence technologies. In this study, results of instant evaluation of the water quality made for water resources via telemetric systems, are reported. Additionally, a remotely-controlled dosing operation was performed.

Opis:
This study aimed to determine element concentration in coal samples and to assess Co, Cr, Se, Th and U leaching from coals exposed to a simulated coal cleaning process. Coal samples taken from a local area of Turkey were grounded and exposed to water for one month period. Then the cleaned samples were filtered and dried. The elemental concentrations in the samples before and after the cleaning procedure were determined by relative neutron activation analysis (NAA). Raw and water cleaned coal samples were irradiated in central irradiation tube of TRIGA MARK II Research Reactor at 250 kW for 6 h and measured for their activities by using high resolution gamma spectroscopy system. The results showed that leaching percentage for Se is up to 100% and for Co, Cr, Th and U up to 71%, 17%, 30%, 28% respectively.
