Opis:
Egypt has many pharaonic tombs for kings, queens and noblemen. The Sennefer tomb, one of the most important nobleman tombs, is located in the southern hillside of Sheikh Abd El-Qurna - west side of Luxor. It is dated back to 1439-1413 B.C. (18th Dynasty) and is usually referred as the Tomb of Vines, due to the large part of the ceiling of the burial chamber. The vine tomb was carved inside a mountain, its walls are covered with plaster and were painted using the tempera technique (pigments mixed with organic binding medium). The analysis was performed by using particle-induced X-ray emission, microbeam particle-induced X-ray emission and optical microscope for the six samples from the Vine tomb such as white, black, red, yellow, blue and green pigments and for the ground layers of the tomb in order to identify the composition of plaster layers and pigments. The data about the nature of these materials are indispensable for conservation and cleaning.

Opis:
Egypt has a lot of ancient monasteries and churches, which were decorated with different kinds of wall paintings. Structure of these wall paintings consists of support, plaster and painting layers. Paintings deterioration is primarily due to physicochemical, natural and human factors. The most detrimental factors are bat patches, old varnish and organic waste of birds. All these lead to the gradual disappearance of paintings. Modern technology of conservation is focused on application of new materials for cleaning of wall paintings. Here we report on the use of enzymes, for cleaning surface of coptic wall paintings. Analytical techniques such as particle induced X-ray emission, Fourier transform infrared and optical microscopy were used to evaluate the enzymatic cleaning processes of coptic wall paintings and to identify the chemical composition of red, yellow and white pigments. Particle induced X-ray emission results indicated that there is no change in the chemical composition of the materials and pigments due to enzymatic cleaning. Fourier transform infrared and optical microscopy results confirmed the stability of organic medium before and after treatment of different kind of patches.

(100) GaSb surface was modified by self-assembled superficial layer of organic molecules by wet chemical process. Hexadecanethiol (HDT) was the choice as modifier. The treated GaSb surface, whose quality affects the morphology of the resulting modified GaSb, was investigated by 3D digital microscopy. The structural study were carried out quickly, non-destructively and comprehensively with using the next generation 3D HIROX KH-8700 Digital Microscope.

Opis:
This article deals with a new generation of scanning near field optical microscopes (SNOM), called apertureless SNOM, based on metallic, semi-conductive or dielectric probes. The classification of the apertureless probe among the usual SNOM probes is discussed in the first part. Then, we present the different apertureless SNOM configurations that we develop, with various commercial AFM and home-made tungsten tips, and several illumination and collection modes. Finally, after a preliminary result in near field imaging, we propose a promising application of such microscopes dedicated to the near field fluorescence spectroscopy.

Opis:
The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of selected organic compounds such as acetic acid and formaldehyde on the historical glass objects of corrosion processes. This is a very important problem for the field of conservation and restoration of glass of art. Glass objects exhibited in museum display cases can be suffered by evaporating organic compounds which undergo to reaction with leached glass elements to create corrosion deposit on their surface. The proposed method called glass sensors has been used to identify results of impact of various external factors on the tested glass. Due to aggressive environment for the objects there created corrosion phenomena. Glass sensor were prepared as reproduced XVIII-cent. materials. The current studies were carried out by modern physico-chemical methods such as optical, metallography, scanning electron microscopy, inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry and the Fourier transform infrared spectrometry. These techniques allow to determine the composition of the corrosion layers as well as their structure. The issues raised in this work have been studied following an interdisciplinary approach. The information obtained by using different techniques provides a valuable source of knowledge about the chemical reactions taking place on the surface of the glass. The results derived from this work are useful for the design and implementation of exhibition recommendations and better planning of conservation tasks.
