Opis:
A simple approach to the process of translational energy relaxation in dilute gases due to Dahler, Malkin, Shizgal and others is extended to the case of systems with chemical reaction. Fundamental quantities characterizing the relaxation processes such as the relaxation time and collision numbers during this time are computed for a number of molecular models of the chemical reaction (the Prigogine-Xhrouet model, the line-of-centers model, a modified line-of-centers model, and reverse versions of these models). Results of this analytical theory are compared with the results of numerical simulations of solutions of the appropriate Boltzmann equation with the use of the modified Nanbu-Babovsky method. This comparison leads to very good agreement between the analytical theory and numerical calculations. A marked influence of the chemical reaction on the translational relaxation in a dilute gas is another important conclusion of this paper.

Opis:
Perturbation solution of the Boltzmann equation for a dilute gas with a chemical reaction A + A → B + B is presented. Analytical results for the nonequilibrium effects on the rate of chemical reaction are obtained for the line-of-centers model. It is shown that taking into account the energy transfer from reagents A to products B permits to get new results. The nonequilibrium corrections obtained from these results are much larger than those obtained with neglecting this energy transfer. These results are verified by a comparison with the numerical results obtained from the modified Nanbu-Babovsky Monte Carlo computer simulations.

The experimental investigations of "order-order" kinetics in Ni$\text{}_{3}$ Al-based L1$\text{}_{2}$-ordered intermetallic compounds revealed the relaxation curves composed of two parallel processes considerably differing in relaxation rates. A simple Ising-type model based on a vacancy mechanism of atomic jumps was used to carry the Monte Carlo simulations of long-range-order relaxations in a binary A$\text{}_{3}$B system with L1$\text{}_{2}$-type superstructure. The simulated relaxation curves fitted weighted sums of two exponentials with significantly different relaxation times. It was found out that the fast relaxation process is controlled by the dynamics of the minority B-atom jumps.

Opis:
Fading is the time-dependent variations in signal strength measured at a receiver, due to temporally evolving multipath scattering and interference. In our previous work we introduced a statistical fading model for the time-reversal invariant case by combining the predictions of random matrix theory with the random coupling model that includes system-specific properties such as the radiation impedance of the ports and short-orbit effects. In the high-loss limit this random matrix theory model reduced to the most common fading models in the wireless communication field. In this paper we discuss the theoretical model in more detail and extend it to the case of broken time-reversal invariance.

Opis:
Random matrix theory successfully predicts universal statistical properties of complicated wave scattering systems in the semiclassical limit, while the random coupling model offers a complete statistical model with a simple additive formula in terms of impedance to combine the predictions of random matrix theory and nonuniversal system-specific features. The statistics of measured wave properties generally have nonuniversal features. However, ratios of the variances of elements of the impedance matrix are predicted to be independent of such nonuniversal features and thus should be universal functions of the overall system loss. In contrast with impedance variance ratios, scattering variance ratios depend on nonuniversal features unless the system is in the high loss regime. In this paper, we present numerical tests of the predicted universal impedance variance ratios and show that an insufficient sample size can lead to apparent deviation from the theory, particularly in the low loss regime. Experimental tests are carried out in three two-port microwave cavities with varied loss parameters, including a novel experimental system with a superconducting microwave billiard, to test the variance-ratio predictions in the low loss time-reversal-invariant regime. It is found that the experimental results agree with the theoretical predictions to the extent permitted by the finite sample size.

Opis:
The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of biomass ashes - specifically wood biomass ash - on the surface of austenitic stainless steel 309 and 310. The process was carried out for 1000 h at 650°C. The microstructure and chemical composition of corrosion products were examined by scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive spectroscopy analysis. Phase analysis of corrosion product were done by X-ray diffraction and ash composition was investigated by X-ray fluorescence. It was observed that wood biomass ash caused the corrosion of the steel surface. On the surface of the steels exposed to wood biomass ash the layer of corrosion products was observed, mostly chromium, nickel and iron oxide. The thickness of mill scale formed during the process was in the range of h=15-30 μm.
