    Opis:
    The subject of “Europeanness” has been analysed in Belarus thoroughly for the last twenty years, but mainly in journalistic publications and books. It is hard to trace the implication of this topic in cinema. Nevertheless, a documentary examined from a certain angle can reveal a “European component”, manifesting important issues about Belarusian identity at the same time. The documentary We Are Living on the Edge (2002) by Victor Asliuk (Belarus) is reviewed in this connection. The reality shown in the film represents the European past and evokes a strong nostalgic feeling. However, the film, though generally renowned, is perceived differently by film professionals and audiences in Western and Eastern Europe. Some points of this East-West divergence are considered in the article. Finally, the issue of the relevance of Europe is analysed in the context of Belarusian history.

    Podstawową tezą artykułu jest przekonanie, że warunkiem skutecznego realizowania formacyjnej funkcji edukacji humanistycznej jest refleksja nad współczesnym światem, a szczególnie nad tak niepokojącymi i aktualnymi problemami, jak np. napięcia międzykulturowe, migracje i związany z nimi kryzys uchodźczy. Analiza w polskiej szkole tekstów podejmujących tę tematykę może być odpowiedzią na kryzys etyczny polegający na izolowaniu się od cudzego cierpienia i na bierności wobec zła, zwłaszcza jeśli ofiarami są ludzie należący do innej niż nasza wspólnoty kulturowej czy narodowej. Inspirację do takich rozważań można odnaleźć w reportażach poświęconych uchodźcom i ich sytuacji.
    The basic thesis of the article is the conviction that the condition for an effective implementation of the formative function of humanistic education is reflection on the contemporary world, and especially on such disturbing and current problems as, for example, intercultural tensions, migrations and connected with them the refugee crisis. The analysis of texts addressing this topic in the Polish school may be a response to the ethical crisis of isolation from other people’s suffering and passivity towards evil, especially if the victims are people belonging to a different cultural or national community. Inspiration for such considerations can be found in reportages devoted to refugees and their situation.

    The issue of national identity study is considered through the lens of such concepts as globalism and Europeanness. Now this aspect of self-conscience is being articulated and discussed especially actively in Ukrainian, Polish, Russian and other scientific reflections. In this regard, the theme of the image of Europe and its derivative concept of Europeanness as a kind of code which is present in these national literatures is actualized. Outlined by the author the receptive image of intuitive Europe which is modified by different models of national mentality is of general importance. For an insight on clearer formation of the image of Europe the author gives examples of its presence in national literatures. Addressing Ukrainian, Polish, Russian scientific reflections the author transforms the issue of intercultural dialogue in the context of national-European into the issue of polylogue of receptive models of identity in a West-East paradigm.
    Проблема национальной идентичности рассматриваетя в„зеркале" таких понятий, как глобализм и„европейскость". Этот аспект самоосознания особенно активно артикулируется в украинской, польской, русской научной рефлексии. В связи с этим актуализируется сама тема образа Европы и„европейскости" как своебразного кода, который присутствует в этих национальных литературах. В исследовании образ Європы видится своеобразной моделью когнитивной материковой духовности. Эта модель в современном мире корелирует с проблемой самоидентификации. А та, в свою очередь, с рецепцией Другого, иного, соnрикасательного, межличностного. Немаловажное значение имеет тут очерченный автором рецептивный образ интуитивной Євроnы, модифицированный разными моделями национальной ментальности. В частности, пограничное (межовое) сознание украинства исследовано украинскими этнопсихологами Для более четкого формирования образа Європы приводятся примеры его присутствия в национальных литературах. Обращаясь к украинской, польской, русской научной рефлексии, автор переводит проблему межкультурного диалога из плоскости национальное/европейское в проблему полилога рецептивных моделей тожсамости в парадигме 3апад/Восток.

    The idea of Europeanness and European identity rather than the national identity gains in relevance in view of the symbolic reorganization of the geographic spaces. Moreover, the national identity issues have somewhat lost importance in view of the global hazard of the COVID pandemic. The purpose of this paper is to debate the concept of Europeanness and to express an ambivalent position on this notion. Taking into consideration the most recent accomplishments of cultural theory I would like to demonstrate that the so-called European identity is a nostalgic object recalled to reminisce about the time when globalization and global threats did not exist at the scale comparable to the present. Or, the knowledge about them was patchy due to the undeveloped internet communication. Taking into consideration the explanations of Arjun Appadurai and Svetlana Boym, I will deconstruct the notion of Europeanness in view of a broad idea of nostalgia which according to Boym interprets the past as illusory and non-existent.

    Opis:
    The aim of the paper is to present today aspirations of Azerbaijan, a state situated in the South Caucasus, to be the part of European culture. The basic materials taken under analysis are current press texts, sites of the official political and economical institutions published in Azerbaijani language and also paper-printed sources related to the politics and culture of Azerbaijan. The cultural, historical and political bounds allow to Azerbaijani government to establish relationships both with European and Asian partners. The membership of cultural and sport organisations entitles to locate Azerbaijan between European states. But the Islam religion – a part of Azerbaijani culture, in spite of presence of many centuries in Europe, is traditionally associated with Asia.
    Данная статья описывает современное стремление закавказского Азербайджана принадлежать к европейской культуре. Базовыми материалами для исследования послужили статьи в прессе и на официальных сайтах средств массовой информации, изданные на азербайджанском языке, международных политических и экономических организаций, а также печатные ресурсы, касающиеся азербайджанской политики и культуры. Культурные, исторические и политические связи упрощают азербайджанским властям налаживание партнерских связей как с европейскими, так и с азиатскими структурами. Участие и принадлежность к культурным и спортивным организациям позволяют причислять Азербайджан скорее к Европе, чем к Азии. Однако, мусульманская религия, несмотря на то, что она присутствует в Европе в течение нескольких сотен лет, как основная религия ряда европейских стран, возможно, является важным фактором, определяющим место Азербайджана, как страны традиционно связанной с шиитской ветвью ислама, в Азии, отождествляемой с исламом.

    This paper’s aim is to approach the issue of European citizenship by showing the dynamics of the related policies. While recognising the importance of the legal assessment of the Union citizenship as defined by the Treaties, much attention is paid to the socio-cultural meaning of the European citizenship, which stimulates the emergence of a supranational loyalty and a sense of belonging to the European Union. After an analysis of the historical development of the concept of European citizenship, it is empirically demonstrated that the success of the European citizenship policy depends critically on the capacity of the Union to meet the mainly pragmatic expectations of the citizens. Accordingly, the lack of a harmonised welfare system at the European level, which causes restrictions of the free movement of the Union citizens within the member states, proves to be the major disincentive of the European identification.
