Bachmann's bundle
Opis:
Background: Bachmann’s bundle plays a crucial role in the physiology of interatrial signal conduction. In the 1970s, Bayes de Luna introduced the definition of interatrial blocks (IABs), which negatively influence atrioventricular (AV) synchrony and left atrial (LA) activation. We aimed to assess the potential of LA strain technology in evaluating the mechanics of LA in patients with correct conduction and IABs. Additionally, we measured the parameters of regurgitation in pulmonary veins (PV), which depend on the type of interatrial conduction. Material and methods: The study group comprised 51 patients (26M, 25F) with symptomatic COVID-19 and sinus rhythm. Our study analyzed their medical history, electrocardiography (ECG) and echocardiography, including the LA strain parameters. Results: Global peak atrial longitudinal strain (PALS) depended on P wave duration, LA volume, left ventricular ejection fraction (LV EF) and inferior pulmonary veins (PV) regurgitation parameters. Global peak atrial contractile strain (PACS) statistically depends on the LV EF, LA volume and the P wave morphology. Conclusions: The presence of IABs negatively influences PACS and PALS. Examining LA strain is complementary to accurate ECG, which may be helpful in everyday clinical practice, particularly in diagnosing heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) and as a predictor of new episodes of atrial fibrillation (AF).

Opis:
Parkinson’s disease is associated with memory loss, anxiety, and depression in the brain. Problems such as poor balance and difficulty during walking can be observed in addition to symptoms of impaired posture and rigidity. The field dedicated to making computers capable of learning autonomously, without having to be explicitly programmed, is known as machine learning. An approach to the diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease, which is based on artificial intelligence, is discussed in this article. The input for this system is provided through photographic examples of Parkinson’s disease patient handwriting. Received photos are preprocessed using the relief feature option to begin the process. This is helpful in the process of selecting characteristics for the identification of Parkinson’s disease. After that, the linear discriminant analysis (LDA) algorithm is employed to reduce the dimensions, bringing down the total number of dimensions that are present in the input data. The photos are then classified via radial basis function-support vector machine (SVM-RBF), k-nearest neighbors (KNN), and naive Bayes algorithms, respectively.

Lubricated mechanical mechanisms operate under service conditions influenced by several environmental parameters, and their life times may be threatened due to inappropriate use or by the presence of solid contaminants. The objective of this work is to study the effect of three operating parameters, namely: rotational speed , load and kinematic viscosity in the presence of three sizes of solid contaminants , on the degradation of an EHL contact, to predict the ranges of effects that may lead to the damage of the contacting surfaces. In our investigation, anexperimental design of nine trials is used to combine four factors with three levels each to accomplish the experimental investigation. Artificial neural network regression and the desirability function were used for the interpretation and modelling of the responses, whichare: wear , arithmetic mean height , total profile height and maximum profile height . From these methods we observed that the sand grain sizes have a significant impact on the wear and the roughness , but that viscosity has the primary influence on the variation of the roughnesses and . We also found that the quality of the predicted models is very good, with overall determination coefficients of 2 learning = 0.9985 and 2 validation = 0.9996. Several levels of degradation depending on the operating conditions are predicted using the desirability function.

Hand grip strength
Opis:
Background The aim of this study was to assess the effectiveness of hand grip strength (HGS) test in identifying highly stressed individuals and to examine the effect of exercise and lifestyle on HGS and stress measures. Material and methods It is cross-sectional study. Students of the Medical University of Gdańsk, Poland were asked to fill out a questionnaire, undergo body composition analysis, perform HGS test and provide a saliva sample for cortisol measurement. Results Self-rated stress (SRS) was significantly higher in pre-clinical years (PCY) compared to clinical years (CY). HGS was significantly lower in PCY males than CY males. Participants who performed some form of exercise had significantly higher HGS compared with those who did not exercise. A positive correlation between HGS and BMI was noted. Students with low HGS were found to have lower levels of salivary cortisol (SC). However, there was no significant difference in SC levels between PCY and CY students. Conclusions HGS may be a reliable method of identifying stressed individuals and promoting healthy lifestyle behaviors. HGS testing is a safe, cheap and easy to perform method for a large number of participants while being time economical.

Cosmogenic radionuclides in meteoroids are produced in space in the process of activation. These nuclides have various lifetimes in range from a few days to several hundred thousand years and can therefore be helpful in solving several problems related to the study of meteoroids and their remains, both in space and on the Earth. The simplest application of cosmogenic radionuclide decay in meteorites is to determine the terrestrial age of meteorites, especially those whose fall has not been observed. In this article, we present an additional application of cosmogenic radionuclide measurements, namely for the verification of origin of rocks that show equivocal features and may potentially represent meteorites.

Background This study aimed to examine the prevalence of burnout, determine burnout-related factors, investigate resilience levels, and assess the relationship between burnout and resilience among physical therapy (PT) students at King Saud University (KSU) in Saudi Arabia. Material and Methods This cross-sectional study involved 153 PT students studying at KSU between January and March 2023. The participants completed an online questionnaire, a Maslach Burnout Inventory, and a Brief Resilience Scale. Results Low-to-moderate levels of Emotional Exhaustion (EE) were observed in 85% of the participants and high Depersonalization (DP) levels were reported by 34.2%. Female participants reported higher levels of EE and DP, whereas males had a greater prevalence of low Personal Achievement (PA) levels. Approximately 6.5% of the study participants reported high burnout levels (a combination of high DP, high EE, and low PA). Academic stress, followed by sleeping difficulties and changes in the academic year structure, were the most important factors contributing to higher levels of burnout (75.2%, 56.9%, and 43.8%, respectively). Most study participants around (66.0%) reported normal resilience levels. A significant correlation was detected between resilience and 2 domains of burnout (DP and PA), with the correlation being negative and weak for DP and positive and moderate for PA. Conclusions Overall, low-to-moderate levels of burnout were observed among the PT students who took part. Related factors that contributed to burnout were academic stress, sleeping difficulties, and academic year structure. A normal level of resilience was found to be significantly related to DP and PA but not to EE on the burnout subscales. Higher levels of resilience can be considered to play a protective role against burnout among PT students.

Opis:
Research background: Anti-consumption practices, in particular consumers’ reluctance to buy (RTB) foreign products, are increasingly common in today’s globalised and interconnected markets. This phenomenon is accentuated by the impact of negative consumer dispositions (e.g., animosity or ethnocentrism), which contribute to an unfavourable perception of foreign products and, consequently, increase RTB. However, knowledge about possible factors that may mitigate this RTB foreign products is limited, and even less is known about the influence that positive dispositions (e.g., affinity) may have on consumer perceptions and consumption/non-consumption decisions. Moreover, consumers are inundated with information from various sources, which can significantly influence their perceptions and image of a product-country, especially in a context associated with negative communication campaigns and image crises. Purpose of the article: This research delves into the study of consumer affinity towards a foreign country, understood as an emotional feeling or positive disposition of a consumer that may mitigate their RTB foreign products, which often results from negative communication campaigns and a country-product image crisis. In addition, its influence on perceived risk and value, and the impact of these on RTB, is investigated. The moderating effect of the organic and induced image formed by the consumer on the risk-value relationship is also analysed, determining whether the induced image undermines this relationship. Methods: The empirical study focuses on the Spanish agri-food sector, which has been the subject of negative communication campaigns and image crises in foreign markets. The conceptual model was tested in a sample of German consumers, as Germany is the primary destination country for these products and has also been the origin of several image crises in this sector. PLS-SEM was used to validate the proposed hypotheses. Findings & value added: This research underlines the importance of fostering feelings of affinity towards a country and its products as a means to counteract negative campaigns, increase perceived value and mitigate RTB in foreign destination markets. Companies and public institutions, which influence the formation of the induced image in consumers, can contribute to improving consumers’ perception of a product-country. By shedding light on these dynamics, this study offers valuable insights for companies trying to cope with image crises fuelled by negative communication campaigns, which are increasingly prevalent in the competitive international landscape.

Opis:
Research background: Despite the dynamically growing cross-sectional academic studies conducted on various aspects related to physical and mental workloads in the context of workplace safety, there is still room for further in-depth analyses of how these workloads affect employees' behavior and well-being. This phenomenon is of particular interest in the case of hospitality, where hotels should recognize the workloads imposed on their employees, since they are considered the most critical and influential stressors in the workplace. Purpose of the article: Based on the conservation of resources (COR) theory, our study aims to examine how hotel employees' physical and mental workloads affect their well-being and safe behaviors. The study also investigates how employee well-being and psychological resilience play a role in these patterns. Methods: The study employs an experience-sampling methodology to assess the physical and mental workloads of a group of full-time employees working in luxury hotels in the USA. Findings & value added: The findings derived from Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) reveal that both physical and mental workloads negatively impact overall well-being and safe behaviors. Additionally, physical workload influences mental workload. Also, employee well-being has been identified as a mediating factor in the relationship between workloads, psychological resilience, and safe behaviors. Notably, psychological resilience has not exhibited a moderating effect. This study expands on the COR theory by examining its impact on the hospitality industry. The study has developed and validated a model for assessing hotel employees' physical workload. Moreover, it emphasizes the significance of employees' well-being and psychological resilience in promoting safe behaviors in hotels. Therefore, this model is a significant step forward toward effectively measuring and maintaining the overall well-being and safe behaviors of employees in the hospitality industry. Furthermore, the value of the research is enhanced by surveying hotel employees directly rather than relying on subjective opinions from management about employee involvement in workplace health and safety. This approach avoids the bias often present in management assessments and provides a more accurate depiction of employee participation.

Introduction and aim. Vasectomy was introduced in India in 1992 and is the most effective, simple, and safe permanent method of contraception yet its use is very limited among the population. The study’s objectives were to assess the knowledge, attitude, and perception towards vasectomy and the barriers to adoption among married men in Dadra and Nagar Haveli. Material and methods. A cross-sectional hospital-based study was conducted on married male attendants of patients and data were collected on sociodemographic details, knowledge regarding vasectomy, their attitude and perceptions towards vasectomy, and their intention of using vasectomy in the future. Results. Out of 300 participants, 258 (86%) participants have heard of vasectomy as a contraceptive method, and only one participant has undergone vasectomy. The majority (285; 95%) of the participants agreed that family planning is also a responsibility of males while nearly two-third (185; 61.7%) of them were not willing to undergo vasectomy in the future. Procedure-related factors, post-procedure-related factors, social factors, availability of alternate contraceptive methods, and preference for tubectomy were the barriers to the adoption of vasectomy. Conclusion. There is a need to provide correct information and counseling about vasectomy and non-scalpel vasectomy to eligible couples to increase the acceptance of vasectomy as a safe, effective, and cheaper method of contraception.

The global prevalence of diabetes mellitus (DM) is escalating, posing a significant challenge to human healthcare systems. In the present study, mineral and monosaccharide compositions, and antidiabetic potential of polysaccharide fractions separated from Centella asiatica (L.) leaves (CAL) were assessed. Initial single-factor experiments identified key extraction parameters, further optimized through response surface methodology (RSM) with optimal conditions determined as a liquid-to-solid ratio of 24.43:1 (mL/g), extraction time of 60.76 min, and a temperature of 83.31℃. Alcohol insoluble residue (AIR) extraction yielded three crude polysaccharide fractions (P50, P70, and P90). P50 was obtained with the highest yield (14.31%) and exhibited the highest content of total sugars and uronic acids (68.01 and 24.28 g/100 g, respectively). Calcium, magnesium, and manganese were dominant minerals in P50 and P70. Monosaccharide composition analysis via high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) demonstrated enrichment of galacturonic acid, galactose, and arabinose in P50 and P70. Furthermore, both fractions (P50 and P70) exhibited dose-dependent inhibitory effects on α-amylase and α-glucosidase. At 5 mg/mL, P50 caused 68.3% α-amylase inhibition and 62.3% α-glucosidase inhibition, while P70 triggered 46.8% and 34.1% inhibition, respectively. In conclusion, this study is the first to provide valuable insights into optimizing CAL extraction conditions. Potential utilization of polysaccharide fractions obtained from CAL as components for formulating functional foods can be explored in the future.
