    Opis:
    This paper discusses silica surface modification by a process involving a two-step reaction: anchoring of a silylating agent, followed by an attachment of a 4-amino-2-mercaptopyrimidine molecule. The modified material (Si-BP) was successfully characterized by the FTIR spectra, which revealed amine absorption bands, and through 13C and 29Si NMR spectra, which confirm the proposed structure of the modified silica (Si-BP). Si-BP was used to extract cadmium and lead from an aqueous medium at 298 K. The Si-BP kinetics towards metal ions was very fast, i.e., about 10 minutes, although extraction was significantly impaired at pH 3. The series of adsorption isotherms were adjusted to a modified Langmuir equation and the maximum extraction capacity was 0.193 and 0.387 mmol g-1 for Cd(II) and Pb(II), respectively. An analysis of the Ř values lead to the inference that the resulting metal ligand complex was type 1:1.

    In this work, the establishment of a technology for HgI2 purification and crystal growth is described, aiming at a future application of this crystal as a room temperature radiation semiconductor detector. Two methods of crystal growth were studied in the development of this work: (1) physical vapor transport (PVT) and (2) saturated solution from dimethylsulphoxide (DMSO) complexes. In order to evaluate the crystals obtained using each of these methods, systematic measurements were carried out for determining the stoichiometry, structure, orientation, surface morphology and impurity of the crystal. The influence of these physicochemical properties of the crystals developed was evaluated in terms of their performance as a radiation detector. The best response to radiation was found for the crystals grown by the PVT technique. Significant improvement in the performance of HgI2 radiation detector was found, purifying the crystal by means of two successive growths by the PVT technique.

    This work reports longitudinal $(R_{XX})$ and transverse $(R_{XY})$ resistance as a function of temperature measured at low magnetic fields for $Y_{0.55}Pr_{0.45}Ba_2Cu_3O_{7-δ}$ polycrystalline sample. It is observed non-zero transverse resistance at zero applied magnetic field below superconducting transition. The comparison between $R_{XX} (T)$ and $R_{XY} (T)$ curves demonstrate unambiguously that the transverse resistance is related to the double resistive superconducting transition in granular superconductors. I-V curves indicate that the transport properties of the investigated sample are in agreement with the predictions of the two-fluid model.

    Opis:
    Non-destructive testing of engineering structures and elements in operation is one of the crucial steps in recently introduced design philosophies: damage tolerance and condition-based maintenance. Therefore, it is important to provide effective non-destructive testing methods, which are able to detect and identify a possible damage in early stage of its development. One effective testing method, which still gains its popularity in various industrial applications, is shearography. Although, shearography is sensitive to various types of structural damage and flaws, this sensitivity can be significantly improved by applying advanced post-processing algorithms to raw data obtained from measurements. An excellent candidate for such an improvement is the wavelet analysis, due to its very high sensitivity to smallest signal disturbances. This study presents results of comparative analysis of various wavelet transforms and various wavelets in order to analyse their sensitivity to damage. The improvement in damage detectability is verified using experimental data.
    Badania nieniszczące inżynierskich struktur i elementów będących w eksploatacji są jednym z najważniejszych kroków w obecnie zapoczątkowanych filozofii projektowania: tolerancji uszkodzenia oraz eksploatacji na podstawie stanu. Dlatego ważnym jest wykorzystanie efektywnych metod badań nieniszczących, które są zdolne do detekcji i identyfikacji możliwego uszkodzenia we wczesnej fazie jego rozwoju. Jedną z efektywnych metod badawczych, która wciąż zyskuje na popularności w różnych zastosowaniach przemysłowych, jest shearografia. Mimo że shearografia jest wrażliwa na różne rodzaje uszkodzeń i wad w strukturach, jej wrażliwość może być znacząco ulepszona poprzez zastosowanie zaawansowanych algorytmów przetwarzania do surowych danych wynikowych otrzymanych z pomiarów. Doskonałym kandydatem dla takiego polepszenia jest analiza falkowa ze względu na jej bardzo dużą wrażliwość na najmniejsze zaburzenia w sygnale. Niniejsza praca przedstawia wyniki analizy porównawczej różnych transformacji falkowych oraz różnych falek w celu analizy ich wrażliwości na uszkodzenia. Polepszenie wykrywalności uszkodzeń zostało zweryfikowane z wykorzystaniem danych eksperymentalnych.

    The net radiation over vegetated surfaces is one of the major input variables in many models of soil evaporation, evapotranspiration as well as leaf wetness duration. In the literature there are relatively few studies on net radiation over sugarcane crop in tropical climates. The main objective of the present study was to assess the solar radiation components measured and modelled for two crop stages of a sugarcane crop in the region of Rio Largo, Alagoas, North-eastern Brazil. The measurements of the radiation components were made with a net radiometer during the dry and rainy seasons and two models were used to estimate net radiation: the Ortega-Farias model and the Monteith and Unsworth model. The highest values of net radiation were observed at the crop development stage, due mainly to the high indices of incoming solar radiation. The daily average albedos of sugarcane at the crop development and mid-season stages were 0.16 and 0.20, respectively. Both models showed a better fit for the crop development stage than for the mid-season stage. When they were inter-compared, Monteith and Unsworth model was more efficient than Ortega-Farias model, despite the dispersion of their simulated radiation components which was similar.

    Pest mites of the family Tetranychidae are commonly reported in several legumes. However, reports of their occurrence in lima beans are insipient, especially in Brazil. The objective of this research was to record the occurrence of mites in lima bean plants and to describe their damage in this Fabaceae. Tetranychus neocaledonicus André and Mononychellus planki McGregor were found in lima bean plants, Phaseolus lunatus (Fabaceae or Leguminosae). The lima bean plants, when infested by these mites, initially exhibit small whitish spots in the leaflets, which with increasing population density rapidly evolve into chlorotic patches, followed by silvering, and may dry out and fall due to their overfeeding. The extent of the damage caused to lima bean plants and the adaptability of the mite to warm and dry conditions indicate that T. neocaledonicus has greater potential as a lima bean pest than M. planki in northeastern Brazil. This is the first record of these mites associated with P. lunatus.

    The evaluation of glycosyl composition is an essential step to guide future research designs applied in bioactivity. In the same way, the unexplored potential bioactivity of exopolysaccharide from Ganoderma lucidum is huge. Therefore, this study investigated the glycosyl composition of the exopolysaccharide isolated from submerged fermentation of G. lucidum to serve as guide for future studies on bioactivity. Glycosyl content and composition were evaluated by combined GC/ MS of the TMS derivatives of the monosaccharide methyl glycosides produced from the sample by acidic methanolysis. Glycosyl composition analysis showed that the dominant carbohydrate component in all samples of exopolysaccharide isolated from submerged fermentation of G. lucidum CG 144 was glucose (58.1%), mannose (26.6%) and galactose (12.5%) which can be referred to as heteroglycan. These results suggest that this Ganoderma exopolysaccharide may be a new immunomodulatory agent.
