Opis:
The concept of k-rainbow index rxk(G) of a connected graph G, introduced by Chartrand et al., is a natural generalization of the rainbow connection number of a graph. Liu introduced a parameter t(n, k, ℓ) to investigate the problems of the minimum size of a connected graph with given order and k-rainbow index at most ℓ and obtained some exact values and upper bounds for t(n, k, ℓ). In this paper, we obtain some exact values of t(n, k, ℓ) for large ℓ and better upper bounds of t(n, k, ℓ) for small ℓ and k = 3.

Opis:
In order to better understand phylogenetic relationships among tintinnid ciliated protozoa, we sequenced and analyzed the SSU rDNA and ITS1-5.8S-ITS2 regions of 10 species belonging to five genera in the order Tintinnida. The secondary structures of the ITS2 region were compared among 8 closely related genera, revealing two stable helices of the palm. In addition, we identified a bulge absence in position II of the ITS2 putative secondary structures of species in basal positions in phylogenetic trees, suggesting the absence bulge might be an ancestral character in the order Tintinnida. Phylogenetic analyses based on SSU rDNA and ITS1-5.8S-ITS2 regions sequence show 1) divergences within the family Tintinnidae are higher than that among other four families (Codonellidae, Ptychocylididae, Metacylididae and Codonellopsidae), suggesting the subdivision of the this family; 2) the family Ptychocylididae is polyphyletic; 3) the subdivision of Tintinnopsis are suggested, because the Tintinnopsis spp. scatter into different clades; 4) species with agglutinated loricae are not clearly separated from that with hyaline ones.

Let $G$ be a nontrivial connected graph with an edge-coloring $c : E(G) → {1, 2, . . ., q}, q ∈ ℕ$, where adjacent edges may be colored the same. A tree $T$ in $G$ is a rainbow tree if no two edges of $T$ receive the same color. For a vertex subset $S ⊆ V (G)$, a tree that connects $S$ in $G$ is called an $S$-tree. The minimum number of colors that are needed in an edge-coloring of $G$ such that there is a rainbow $S$-tree for each $k$-subset $S$ of $V(G)$ is called the $k$-rainbow index of $G$, denoted by $rx_k(G)$. In this paper, we first determine the graphs of size $m$ whose 3-rainbow index equals $m$, $m − 1$, $m − 2$ or $2$. We also obtain the exact values of $rx_3(G)$ when $G$ is a regular multipartite complete graph or a wheel. Finally, we give a sharp upper bound for $rx_3(G)$ when $G$ is 2-connected and 2-edge connected. Graphs $G$ for which $rx_3(G)$ attains this upper bound are determined.

Chartrand et al. got that the $k$-rainbow index of a tree is $n−1$ and the $k$-rainbow index of a unicyclic graph is $n−1$ or $n−2$. So there is an intriguing problem: Characterize graphs with the $k$-rainbow index $n − 1$ and $n − 2$. In this paper, we focus on $k = 3$, and characterize the graphs whose $3$-rainbow index is $n − 1$ and $n − 2$, respectively.

Li and Sun raised the open problem of characterizing the graphs of order $n$ with $r x_k (G) = n − 1$ for $ k \ge 3 $. In early papers we characterized the graphs of order $n$ with 3-rainbow index 2 and $n − 1$. In this paper, we focus on $k = 4$, and characterize the graphs of order $n$ with 4-rainbow index 3 and $n − 1$, respectively.

Opis:
The expression of predominant housekeeping genes used in RT-qPCR can vary during development and differentiation. The frequently used housekeeping genes (ACTB, GAPDH, 18S rRNA, EF1α and RPL 13a) were evaluated during an early stage of the osteogenic differentiation of mouse bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (mMSCs) (under normal conditions or treated with CCG-4986) to identify housekeeping genes whose expression remained constant during osteogenic differentiation. When we used RGS4 mRNA, which was determined as copy number per μg of total RNA, to normalize gene expression, we observed that the relative EF1α expression profile was consistent with RGS4 expression after treatment with CCG-4986. All the relative expression profiles of the EF1α, 18S rRNA, and RPL13a housekeeping genes were consistent with RGS4 profiles determined by measuring mRNA copies under normal osteogenic differentiation conditions. The expression profiles calibrated by ACTB and GAPDH were not consistent with those determined using mRNA copy number in untreated cells or cells treated with CCG-4986 under osteogenic differentiation conditions. Under normal osteogenic differentiation conditions, EF1α, 18S rRNA, and RPL 13a are suitable housekeeping genes for RT-qPCR analysis. However, EF1α is the only suitable gene upon CCG-4986 treatment.

Glucocorticoid receptor (GR) is a steroid hormone receptor that has been shown to play important roles in diverse cellular and physiological processes. More and more evidence has revealed that the effects of glucocorticoids are mediated by the glucocorticoid receptor through genomic or nongenomic mechanisms. A growing number of glucocorticoid receptor splice variants have been identified in human tissues, but few are known in rat tissues. In this work, a novel rGR cDNA, called rGRβ, was cloned from Sprague Dawlay (SD) rat liver. Sequence analysis revealed that the rGRβ mRNA was 39 base pairs (bp) shorter than the rGR mRNA reported earlier. The deleted segment is located in exon 1 and encodes 13 repeated glutamine residues. Both the rGR and rGRβ mRNAs were quantitated by Northern blot hybridization using non-homologous glucocorticoid cDNA probes. Results showed that the rGR and rGRβ mRNAs were most abundant in the lung, the least abundant in the heart, and there were more rGR and rGRβ mRNAs in the kidney than in the liver. The identification of rGRβ may contribute to the understanding of the genomic or nongenomic effects of glucocorticoids.

The classification and separation of minerals happen in the traditional gravity separation simultaneously. This paper focuses on the classification performance of quartz particles in the enhanced gravity field. The classification efficiency of single quartz particles decreased then increased with the increase of rotational angular velocity, while it decreased with the increase of backwash water pressure. The classification efficiency of -0.5 +0.25mm, -0.25 +0.125mm, -0.125 +0.074mm, -0.074 +0.045mm and -0.045mm quartz was higher than the corresponding narrow size of -0.5mm quartz in general. The “fish-hook” phenomenon appeared in the partition curve of -0.5mm quartz under small/large rotational angular velocity and small backwash water pressure, and the dip point could be found in fine particles region, which indicated that the “fish-hook” was closely related with operating parameters and particle size. A medium rotational angular velocity and larger backwash water pressure could be helpful to avoid the appearance of “fish-hook” in fine particles region and achieve a better classification performance. This investigation is beneficial to understand the regularity of particle migration in the enhanced gravity field.

Opis:
Objective. To explore the effect of dexamethasone (DEX) on monocyte adhesion function and its underlying mechanism. Methods. The effects of DEX and fasudil on adhesion of cultured U937 monocytes to human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC) following stimulation with phorbol myristate acetate (PMA) were studied; Changes in the Rho-associated coiled-coil protein kinase 1 (ROCK1) protein content and activity were evaluated. Results. DEX and fasudil significantly inhibited U937 cell adhesion rates under PMA stimulation and inhibited ROCK1 activity. Mifepristone (RU-486) and cycloheximide (CHX) did not alter these effects of DEX. Conclusions. DEX interferes with the adhesion function of U937 cells through the inhibition of ROCK1 activity.

The morphology, morphogenesis and infraciliature of two marine euplotid ciliates, Euplotes dammamensis n. sp. and Euplotes balteatus (Dujardin, 1841) Kahl, 1932, isolated from a sandy beach of the Arabian Gulf, Saudi Arabia, were investigated using observations in vivo and protargol-impregnation methods. Euplotes dammamensis n. sp. is characterized by a combination of features including its huge body size (100–170 × 80–120 μm), 10 conspicuous dorsal ridges, 10 normal-sized frontoventral and two marginal cirri, and 11 dorsal kineties. Euplotes balteatus is mainly characterized by 10 frontoventral, two caudal, and two left marginal cirri, 7–10 dorsal kineties and 5–7 prominent dorsal ridges as well as double-eurystomus silverline system. The small subunit rRNA (SSU-rRNA) gene sequences were determined for both species and phylogenetic analyses based on these data indicated that E. dammamensis is most closely related to E. parabalteatus Jiang et al., 2010, and E. balteatus clusters with E. plicatum Valbonesi et al., 1997, E. orientalis Jiang et al., 2010, and E. bisulcatus Kahl, 1932.

Opis:
In order to investigate the influence of vertical ground motion on seismic responses of story-isolation structures mounted on triple friction pendulum (TFP) bearings, the finite element model of a six-story building with various types of interlayer isolation TFP bearings under far field or near fault ground motions is established and analysed. A discrepancy rate function of peak interlayer shear, acceleration and displacement results is adopted to discuss the influence of the vertical seismic motions on isolation structural responses. Furthermore, the isolation form, the isolation period and the friction coefficient of bearings are changed to study their effect on the vertical seismic component’s influence. The results show that the influence of the vertical seismic component is considerable on the isolation layer especially under near-fault ground motions, so it should not be overlooked during the structural design; The change of isolation forms will greatly affect the influence of the vertical seismic component especially in the isolation layer and isolation systems with isolation devices set on higher stories or with less isolation layers will have less vertical seismic effect on story acceleration; The increase of the isolation period will globally result in the decrease of the influence of vertical seismic components, though in some cases it shows some sort of fluctuation before the final decrease; The increase of the friction coefficient will lead to the global decrease in the influence of the vertical seismic component in single-layer isolation structures, while it does not obviously affect those in the multi-layer isolation systems.

China's extensive inland navigable water system determines that inland navigation must be an important part of China's shipping industry. The collision process of ship striking the anti-collision pier is analyzed through simulation experiment in this paper. The results show that the collision process usually lasts less than 2 seconds, and the peak value of the collision force, friction and resultant force appears 0.5 after the start of the collision.

Opis:
The theoretical capacity of a bucket wheel excavator is the basis of mining theory. The paper concludes that the use of “1/cosφ” to adjust the speed of a bucket wheel excavator will result in rapid speeds, which may cause nonuniform flow from the distribution of material flow, and decreased capacity utilization. Consequently, this scenario may produce unreasonable structure parameters and performance parameters that are based on theoretical analysis and mathematical derivation. If the rotary speed of an excavator body is too fast, it will require excessive mechanical strength and will generate increased rotary drive power, power consumption and extractive costs. Thus, the rotary speed of an excavator body should be appropriately reduced.
Teoretyczna wydajność koparki wielonaczyniowej kołowej jest podstawą w teoretycznych obliczeniach wydajności wydobycia. Autorzy pracy wyciągnęli wniosek, że wykorzystanie zależności 1/cosφ przy sterowaniu prędkością pracy koparki prowadzi do zbyt dużych prędkości, co powodować może nierównomierność strumienia urobku i ograniczone wykorzystanie mocy przerobowych koparki. W konsekwencji, mamy do czynienia z nieuzasadnionymi parametrami konstrukcyjnymi i eksploatacyjnymi opartymi na analizach teoretycznych i matematycznych wyprowadzeniach. Jeśli prędkość obrotowa w ruchu korpusu koparki jest zbyt duża, wymagane będzie dostarczenie nadmiernej siły by wygenerować odpowiednio dużą prędkość obrotową, prowadząc do wzrostu zużycia energii i kosztów wydobycia. Dlatego też konieczna jest odpowiednia kontrola prędkości obrotowej w ruchu koparki.

In order to study the characteristics of mixed vessel traffic flow, based on classical head distance model and probability analysis, by studying the combination time head way of different vessel-following sequences, the capacity model of mixed vessels traffic flow was established. Through analyzing two representative types of vessels, research results indicate that the capacity of mixed traffic increase with the traffic flow speed in a certain speed range, but the increasing trend slow down. The closer length and inertial stopping distance of different kind vessels are, the more capacity of mixed traffic increases. And the influence of reaction time on the capacity is related to proportion of different kind vessels.

Nonlinear least squares algorithm is commonly used to fit the evaporation experiment data and to obtain the ‘optimal’ soil hydraulic model parameters. But the major defects of nonlinear least squares algorithm include non-uniqueness of the solution to inverse problems and its inability to quantify uncertainties associated with the simulation model. In this study, it is clarified by applying retention curve and a modified generalised likelihood uncertainty estimation method to model calibration. Results show that nonlinear least squares gives good fits to soil water retention curve and unsaturated water conductivity based on data observed by Wind method. And meanwhile, the application of generalised likelihood uncertainty estimation clearly demonstrates that a much wider range of parameters can fit the observations well. Using the ‘optimal’ solution to predict soil water content and conductivity is very risky. Whereas, 95% confidence interval generated by generalised likelihood uncertainty estimation quantifies well the uncertainty of the observed data. With a decrease of water content, the maximum of nash and sutcliffe value generated by generalised likelihood uncertainty estimation performs better and better than the counterpart of nonlinear least squares. 95% confidence interval quantifies well the uncertainties and provides preliminary sensitivities of parameters.
