Opis:
This paper investigates experimentally the thermomechanical response of 42CrMo steel under several combinations of temperatures and strain-rate. To characterize the flow stress of this highstrength 42CrMo steel, two distinct test configurations were utilized. The first consisted of conventional uniaxial tensile tests conducted at room and elevated temperatures of 523◦K, 723◦K and 923◦K and three quasi-static strain-rates at 0.0015 s−1, 0.015 s−1, and 0.15 s−1. The second test configuration was carried out under dynamic compression using a drop mass bench at room temperature with three different dynamic strain-rates of 300 s−1, 400 s−1, and 500 s−1. Particular attention was paid to key features such as work-hardening (WH), grain size, dynamic strain aging (DSA), formation of microcavities, and their coupling with the influence of temperature/strain-rate combination. The dependence of 42CrMo steels’ flow stress on the quasi-static strain-rate at room temperature was almost insignificant. However, the strain-rate sensitivity increased with increasing temperatures. At high temperatures, different factors contributed to modifying the alloy microstructure which has a significant impact on the alloy’s mechanical properties. Quantification of the micro-cracks density and fractured specimens’ voids was established using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images. The Voyiadjis–Abed (VA) constitutive model was utilized in describing the flow stress of 42CrMo steels and implemented in the ABAQUS software to develop a robust finite element model capable of accurately simulating variant structural responses of 42CrMo steel alloy.

Opis:
Habrobracon hebetor Say is one of the most important natural enemies of the Helicoverpa armigera Hübner (Lep.: Noctuidae). In this study, the sublethal effects of LC30 concentration of azadirachtin, cypermethrin, methoxyfenozide and pyridalil on the functional response of H. hebetor to different densities of 5th instars larvae of Ephestia kuehniella Zeller were evaluated. Young females were exposed to LC30 of the insecticides for an appropriate time of exposure. Then, six randomly selected alive females were transferred individually to plastic Petri dishes (10 cm in diameter) and supplied with the following densities: 2, 4, 8, 16, 32 and 64 of 5th instars of E. kuehniella for 24 h. Eight replicates were considered for each insecticide treatment and the control. The results revealed a type II functional response in the control, and all of the insecticide treatments. This study showed that the control and the cypermethrin treatment had the shortest (0.4143 h) and longest (0.624 h) handling time, respectively. The highest (0.0035 per hour) and lowest (0.0029 per hour) attack rate was observed in pyridalil and cypermethrin treatments, respectively. Based on values of handling time, cypermethrin had the highest adverse effect on host-finding in H. hebetor.

Opis:
The aim of this study, which was conducted in field conditions on three localities in Serbia during two years, was to investigate the influence of the application of various types of fertilizers on the essential oil content in caraway, anise and coriander fruits. The influence of four organic fertilizers was investigated: two microbiological fertilizers (Slavol and Bactofil B-10), two specific organic fertilizers (Royal Ofert biohumus and vermicompost). Also, the chemical fertilizer was used and there was a control plot without any fertilization. From the results, it can be concluded that the application of different fertilizers has an influence on essential oil content only in case of anise fruits. The application of Royal Ofert biohumus shows the best results, after which follows chemical fertilizer. The use of these two types of fertilizers significantly increased the essential oil content in the anise fruits in comparison with other tested treatments. Although differences in the essential oil content of caraway and coriander were not significant, the two above mentioned fertilizers and vermicompost show the best results.
Celem dwuletniego badania przeprowadzonego w warunkach polowych w trzech miejscowościach w Serbii było zbadanie wpływu zastosowania różnych typów nawozów na zawartość olejków eterycznych w owocach kminku, anyżu i kolendry. Zbadano wpływ czterech nawozów organicznych: dwóch nawozów mikrobiologicznych (Slavol i Bactofil B-10) oraz dwóch specyficznych nawozów organicznych (Royal Ofert biohumus i wermikompost).

Opis:
Hemorrhaging from large vessels poses a serious problem in emergency situations when blood loss needs to be immediately controlled. The aim of the study was to compare the effectiveness of two hemostatic dressings in controlling bleeding from a surgically punctured femoral artery. The study was performed on thirteen pigs divided into two groups, of six and seven pigs, respectively. Combat gauze covered with ChitoClear hqg 95 chitosan and Protanal LF10/60 FT sodium alginate was used in the first group, seton covered with identical substances was uses in the second group. Selected hemostatic dressing was applied to the wound 20 seconds after incision and then removed at regular time intervals to evaluate hemostasis. Modified seton was characterized by a shorter time to hemostasis than combat gauze. The result of this experiment indicate that modified seton proved to be a more effective dressing than modified combat gauze.

Opis:
Aging has profound effects on facial biometrics as it causes change in shape and texture. However, aging remains an under-studied problem in comparison to facial variations due to pose, illumination and expression changes. A commonly adopted solution in the state-of-the-art is the virtual template synthesis for aging and de-aging transformations involving complex 3D modelling techniques. These methods are also prone to estimation errors in the synthesis. Another viable solution is to continuously adapt the template to the temporal variation (ageing) of the query data. Though efficacy of template update procedures has been proven for expression, lightning and pose variations, the use of template update for facial aging has not received much attention so far. Therefore, this paper first analyzes the performance of existing baseline facial representations, based on local features, under ageing effect then investigates the use of template update procedures for temporal variance due to the facial age progression process. Experimental results on FGNET and MORPH aging database using commercial VeriLook face recognition engine demonstrate that continuous template updating is an effective and simple way to adapt to variations due to the aging process.

Opis:
Based on the LEADER initiative, the European Union created a new tool for the planning period 2014-2020: the Community Lead Local Development (CLLD). Both the LEADER and the CLLD programmes put great emphasis on studying the basic situation, but there is no universal methodology provided for it, which makes it almost impossible to compare regions with each other. Therefore, this study aims to provide a way to compare regional characteristics and indicators in the current planning period of the EU, which allows us to monitor the development path of the regions, and also the performance of regional development programmes. This study investigates a smaller region, as a test of our chosen method for later and larger investigations. Through the applied methodology important elements belonging to the CLLD, such as the indicators for life quality, organisational efficiency, sectoral performance and infrastructure, were examined. The output of the research is intended to provide a suitable tool for decision makers to compare different regional levels more efficiently.

This work presents a simulation of the response of packets of microbubbles in an ultrasonic pulse-echo scan line. Rayleigh-Plesset equation has been used to predict the echo from numerically obtained radial dynamics of microbubbles. Varying the number of scattering microbubbles on the pulse wave form has been discussed. To improve microbubble-specific imaging at high frequencies, the subharmonic and second harmonic signals from individual microbubbles as well as microbubbles packets were simulated as a function of size and pressure. Two different modes of harmonic generation have been distinguished. The strength and bandwidth of the subharmonic component in the scattering spectrum of microbubbles is greater than that of the second harmonic. The pressure spectra provide quantitative and detailed information on the dynamic behaviour of ultrasound contrast agent microbubbles packet.

Opis:
In this work, an approach to the design of broadband thickness-mode piezoelectric transducer is presented. In this approach, simulation of discrete time model of the impulse response of matched and backed piezoelectric transducer is used to design high sensitivity, broad bandwidth, and short-duration impulse response transducers. The effect of matching the performance of transmitting and receiving air backed PZT-5A transducer working into water load is studied. The optimum acoustical characteristics of the quarter wavelength matching layers are determined by a compromise between sensitivity and pulse duration. The thickness of bonding layers is smaller than that of the quarter wavelength matching layers so that they do not change the resonance peak significantly. Our calculations show that the −3 dB air backed transducer bandwidth can be improved considerably by using quarter wavelength matching layers. The computer model developed in this work to predict the behavior of multilayer structures driven by a transient waveform agrees well with measured results. Furthermore, the advantage of this this model over other approaches is that the time signal for optimum set of matching layers can be predicted rapidly.
