Opis:: Reflectivity and transmittivity spectra of Zn$\text{}_{3}$P$\text{}_{2}$ in the far infrared region were measured at several temperatures. Raman scattering spectra at 295 K were also measured. Results of these measurements were interpreted in terms of one-phonon and multi-phonon transitions.

Opis:: A series of GaInAs/InP heterostructures was grown by liquid phase epitaxy. The heterostructures were characterized by magnetotransport measurements carried out down to 1.8 K and up 10 T. The results demonstrate the existence of the high-mobility two-dimensional electron gas in the narrow-gap GaInAs as well as the presence of residual conductance through the InP buffer layer.

Opis:: We present millikelvin studies of magnetoconductance in submicron wires of In-doped n$\text{}^{+}$-CdTe and n$\text{}^{+}$-Cd$\text{}_{0.99}$Mn$\text{}_{0.01}$Te epilayers. Weak-field magnetoresistance which arises from quantum localization as well as universal conductance fluctuations have been observed. The exchange coupling to magnetic impurities is shown to decrease the correlation field of the fluctuations. This novel effect is interpreted by invoking a new driving mechanism of the magnetoconductance fluctuations - the redistribution of the electrons between energy levels of the system, induced by the giant s-d spin-splitting of the electronic states.

Opis:: Millikelvin studies of in-plane magnetoconductance in short period Si/Ge:Sb superlattices have been carried out in order to examine the effect of anisotropy on quantum localization. The field-induced metal-to-insulator transition has been observed, indicating the existence of extended states. This suggests that despite anisotropy as large as D $\text{}_{∥}$/D$\text{}_{⊥}$ ≈ 10$\text{}^{3}$ the system behaves as 3D in respect of localization by disorder.

Opis:: We show that conducting edge channels are formed in free standing wires of PbSe/BaF$\text{}_{2}$ and PbTe/BaF$\text{}_{2}$ as temperature is lowered. The effect results from spatially inhomogeneous strain caused by a difference between the thermal expansion coefficients of the epilayer and the substrate. The presence of the edge channels can explain anomalous mesoscopic effects observed previously in these wires.

Opis:: We present millikelvin studies of magnetoresistance for epitaxial films and wires of CdTe:In. In comparison to the data with theoretical predictions for the weakly localized regime we put into the evidence the presence of the temperature-induced dimensional crossovers in the studied systems. Our measurements probe the electron phase-breaking rate and indicate that the main dephasing mechanism arises from electron scattering from thermal fluctuations of three- or two-dimensional electron liquid.

Opis:: The paper presents principle of operation and construction of prototype of interference loop of optical fibre sensor applied for vibration detection. The Sagnac interferometer with passive demodulator on 3x3 coupler was used for the sensor design. The prototype performed in co-operation with the Military University of Technology and the Military Electronic Plants in Zielonka has been examined mechanically in various weather conditions. The prototype fulfils military requirements for the instruments operating in the closed space within the range of temperatures -40oC to +50oC.

Opis:: At present, in mandibular fractures surgical treatment reposition and titanium miniplates osteosynthesis is the most common method used. The treatment results are assessed on the basis of comparative analysis of two radiograms taken before and after fixations of fractures. In this article the objective method of radiological assessment of osteosynthesis is presented. The crucial part of the method is the computer program which was created at The Institute of Computer Biomedical Systems, Silesian University in Katowice. Comparison of placement of bone fragments on a pair of pantomograms taken before and after a particular surgical operation was done. To make the process of the results evaluation an objective one a new parameter - the relative dislocation coefficient - was implemented. Achieved results enable to assess correctness of bone fracture reposition on the pantomographical pictures taken twice, once before and the next time after osteosynthesis.

Opis:: The method of objective assessment of the correctness mandible bones fracture slit was proposed in the research. At present, treatment results are evaluated by comparing pantomographic pictures made before and after integration. It is not an objective method; the estimation of the integration correctness coefficient is not possible, either. The use of computer processing enables introducing the relative mandible faction dislocation coefficient. Thanks to this, measurable determination of bone faction reposition correctness on pantomograms made after osteosynthesis is possible.

Opis:: Cardiotocography as a simultaneous recording of fetal heart rate (FHR) and uterine contraction activity is a basic method of evaluation of fetal condition. Correct variability of the fetal heart rate is an indirect sign of adequate oxygenation of a fetus. Unfortunately, the reverse case is not always true, signs suggesting pathological changes can also appear in recording when the fetal is not at risk. The cardiotocography shall then be recognized as a more screening than diagnostic method. It will be interesting to develop a non-invasive method being complementary to routine cardiotocography. This method should allow the adequate prediction of a bad neonatal outcome when the test is abnormal. The paper shows the system that makes possible cardiotocograms analysis in parallel with the assessment of additional parameters determined from comparison of mechanical and electrical fetal heart activity signals. The studies are aimed at development of set of parameters that are high correlated with clinical outcome.

Opis:: This work was aimed at assessment of usability of Doppler ultrasound method for the analysis of fetal heart rate variability at a level of single heart beats. The purpose of this study was to check if today fetal monitors provide the signal of accuracy comparable with an electrocardiography method. The virtual instrumentation software for measurement system and processing of acquired signals was implemented using LABVIEW environment. The results obtained reveal that accuracy of today monitors which use Doppler ultrasound technique is sufficient for visual analysis of the FHR traces. However, for the computerized analysis at a beat-to-beat level, this accuracy is below the acceptable value.

Opis:: Assurance of data integrity is one of the prerequisites for each computer system. The paper presents a method enabling on-line maintenance of stream data set integrity. Opis:: W artykule opisano metodę wykorzystywania mocy obliczeniowych zgromadzonych w sieciach lokalnych poprzez tworzenie klastrów obliczeniowych. Metoda pozwala na wykorzystywanie systemów operacyjnych przechowywanych na nośnikach trwałych, dzięki czemu nie jest konieczna żadna zmiana konfiguracji istniejących systemów. Wieloprocesorowy klaster obliczeniowy zbudowany zgodnie z zaproponowaną metodą ma możliwości równoważenia obciążeń poszczególnych procesorów. W artykule opisano mechanizm dynamicznego przyrostowego konfigurowania klastra. Przedstawiono także interfejs użytkownika pozwalający kontrolować i monitorować pracę klastra. Metoda może być wykorzystana w dowolnej sieci lokalnej, kiedy potrzebne jest zwiększenie możliwości obliczeniowych.
Article describes a method of cluster building, which is a good way to utilize computer power accumulated in local networks. The method allows to use operating system stored on read-only storage. Multiprocessor computable cluster based on this method allows to make load balancing on every processor. This article describes mechanism of cluster's dynamic configuration. User interface to control and monitor cluster performance was also described. The method can be used in every local network.
