    The author succinctly discusses the martyrological dimension of the Petrine primacy on the basis of the teachings of Joseph Ratzinger–Benedict XVI. The paper presents the biblical foundation of the prophecy of St. Peter’s death as a martyr given by the Resurrected Jesus on the shore of the Sea of Galilee, offering an analysis of the Greek text of John 21:18–19. In his further reflections, the author discusses the development of the term “witness” in its Greek and Christian understanding. Then, he briefly addresses the significance of a martyr as defined by Christian theology, explaining the dimensions of red and white martyrdom. In the fourth and last part of the paper, elements of martyrological primacy are presented, including a reference to the work by Cardinal Reginald Pole as quoted by Joseph Ratzinger.
    Autor artykułu w sposób zwięzły omawia element martyrologiczny wymiaru prymatu piotrowego w oparciu o nauczanie Josepha Ratzingera-Benedykta XVI. W swoim artykule ukazuje podstawę biblijną zapowiedzi męczeńskiej śmierci św. Piotra, które wypowiedział Zmartwychwstały Jezus nad Jeziorem Tyberiadzkim, analizując tym samym grecki tekst: J 21, 18-19. W dalszej refleksji autor omawia kształtowanie się terminu „świadek” w rozumieniu greckim jak i chrześcijańskim. Następnie krótko omawia znaczenie męczennika w rozumieniu teologii chrześcijańskiej ukazując wymiar czerwony i biały męczeństwa. W ostatniej, czwartej części, ukazane zostają elementy martyrologicznego prymatu, w której następuje odwołanie do dzieła kardynała Reginalda Pola, na które powołuje się Joseph Ratzinger.

    Przyglądając się współczesnemu światu i panującym tendencjom możemy zaobserwować, że wartość nadrzędna, jaką jest prawda zostaje, spłycona i usytuowana w przestrzeni publicznej i prywatnej jako wartość, która traci na znaczeniu. Ponadto prawdę ukazuje się jako wartość subiektywną, która zakłada, że wszelkie poznanie zależy wyłącznie od człowieka i jego prywatnych odczuć Wzajemne poszukiwanie prawdy, jak podkreśla to Joseph Ratzinger-Benedykt XVI, staje się wspólnym celem wszystkich religii i kultur. Wszyscy ludzie niezależnie od wyznania, pochodzenia czy kultury ciągle pragną poznawać, a przedmiotem tego poznania staje się prawda. Poznanie prawdy staje się możliwe dzięki dwóm drogom: drodze rozumu (drodze filozoficznej) i drodze wiary (spotkaniem z żywą Osobą ). Benedykt XVI w encyklice Caritas in veritate ukazuje, że prawda ma charakter dialogiczny: od słowa, które rozpoczyna rozmowę do dialogu, którego konsekwencją staje się przekazywanie i odbieranie informacji, a wynikiem tego jest stworzenie wspólnoty, w której odbywa się rozmowa. Dzięki takiemu spotkaniu osób staje się możliwe uwolnienie od subiektywnych opinii i odczuć, które zamykają człowieka w jego świecie i przyczyniają się do otwarcia na innych, a tym samym na inne spojrzenie. Poszukiwanie prawdy w spotkaniu z religiami i kulturami staje się możliwe dzięki cnocie tolerancji, którą nabywamy. Cnota tolerancji umożliwia porozumienie, jednak by osiągnąć to porozumienie należy przestrzegać kilku zasad: rzeczowości, uczciwości i odpowiedzialności, o których wspomina Benedykt XVI. Ponadto porozumienie to staje się także możliwe, kiedy przestrzegane są zasady właściwie rozumianego dialogu. Prawidłowo rozumiany dialog posiada kilka elementów: słowa, słuchanie, spotkanie, zrozumienie, a także jasność, unikanie synkretyzmu i relatywizmu oraz poszanowanie innych. Tym samym zauważamy, że poszukiwanie prawdy w tolerancji powinno być celem jednoczącym wszystkie religie i kultury pośród podziałów i sprzeczności.
    Looking at the modern world and the dominant tendencies it might be observed that the overriding value of truth is trivialized and situated in the public or private sphere as something insignificant. Moreover, truth is presented as a subjective value which suggests that any form of cognition depends on man and his private perceptions and attitudes without any search for new ways of knowing. The mutual search for truth, as Joseph Ratzinger – Benedict XVI – emphasizes, is a common goal of all religions and cultures. All people, regardless of their beliefs, origin or culture, wish to know, and truth becomes the subject of this cognition. There are two possible ways of knowing truth: the way of reason (a philosophical way) and the way of faith (a meeting with a living Person). In his encyclical Caritas in veriatate, Benedict XVI observes that truth has a dialogical character: from a word which starts a conversation to a dialogue in which information is given and received. The result is the creation of a community where the conversation takes place. Such a meeting of people makes it possible to abandon the subjective opinions and perceptions which close man in his own world, and contributes to openness to other people and to adopting a new perspective. The search for truth during the encounter with other religions and cultures is possible thanks to the virtue of tolerance which we acquire. The virtue of tolerance makes understanding possible, but in order to achieve this understanding it is important to observe certain principles such as conciseness, honesty and responsibility, all of which Benedict XVI mentions. Moreover, understanding is possible when the rules of dialogue are obeyed. Dialogue understood in this way should involve the following elements: words, listening, meeting, understanding, clarity, avoidance of syncretism and relativism, as well as respect for others. Thus we may observe that the search for truth in tolerance should be a unifying goal for all religions and cultures which face divisions and contradictions.

    Opis:
    The main subject covered in this paper is the coexistence of the religious experience of the Church and the experience of national community in the teaching of Joseph Ratzinger–Benedict XVI. The starting point is the understanding of experience in the writings of Joseph Ratzinger–Benedict XVI. In his view, experience manifests itself in three ways: through faith and liturgy, through testimony and through saints. This, in turn, translates to the national experience, which encompasses such areas as culture and academia, religious and universal values, natural law, family and education, and the principles of subsidiarity and solidarity in development and progress. The interdependence between the Church and the national community reflected in the works of Joseph Ratzinger–Benedict XVI highlights the need for these two institutions to work together towards the common good of those who constitute the Church and those who constitute the nation, regardless of their religious beliefs or political convictions. Throughout Cardinal Ratzinger’s teaching, one can observe that the religious experience of the Church provides a starting point for the national experience that manifests itself in the brotherhood of all people.
    Głównym zagadnieniem artykułu jest współistnienie doświadczenia religijnego Kościoła i doświadczenia wspólnoty narodowej w nauczaniu Josepha Ratzingera-Benedykta XVI. Punkt wyjścia stanowi rozumienie doświadczenia w pismach Josepha Ratzingera-Benedykta XVI. Doświadczenie to przejawia się w na trzy sposoby wiara i liturgia; świadectwo oraz świeci. to z kolei przekłada się na doświadczenie narodowe, które obejmuje następujące zagadnienia: kulturę i uniwersytet; wartości religijne i uniwersalne; prawo naturalne; rodzinę i wychowanie; oraz na zasadę pomocniczości i solidarności w rozwoju i postępie. Współzależność Kościoła jak i wspólnoty narodowej w nauczaniu Josepha Ratzingera-Benedykta XVI kładą nacisk na współpracę tych dwóch instytucji w dziedzinie dobra wspólnego tych, którzy tworzą Kościół oraz tych którzy tworzą naród nie zależnie od wyznawanej religii czy przekonań politycznych. W nauczaniu kard. Ratzingera, papieża Benedykta XVI widać, że doświadczenie religijne Kościoła stanowi punkt wyjścia dla doświadczenia narodowego, które widać we wspólnym braterstwie ludzi.

    W niniejszym artykule autorzy podjęli próbę oszacowania wpływu stosowania MSR 41 „Rolnictwo” na prezentowane w sprawozdaniach finansowych wyniki finansowe podmiotów gospodarczych zajmujących się produkcją rolniczą oraz sposób w jaki może to wpłynąć na zniekształcenie wyceny porównawczej, w konsekwencji prowadząc do podejmowania błędnych decyzji inwestycyjnych. Przedstawione w pracy pytania są efektem analizy sprawozdań finansowych przedsiębiorstw prowadzących działalność w sektorze rolniczym. Badaniom poddane zostały sprawozdania finansowe wybranych spółek giełdowych z lat 2015-2017. Autorzy szczególną uwagę skupili na obszarze dotyczącym przeszacowania aktywów biologicznych. W ocenie autorów prezentowane w rachunku zysków i strat przeszacowania z tytułu rewaluacji aktywów biologicznych stanowią istotną część raportowanego wyniku finansowego. Wykorzystanie nieskorygowanych wartości EV/EBITDA oraz wskaźnika dług netto/EBITDA może prowadzić do nieprawidłowej wyceny przedsiębiorstwa i w konsekwencji do podjęcia błędnych decyzji inwestycyjnych. Autorzy wskazali trudności związane z wyceną podmiotów gospodarczych działających w sektorze rolniczym. Jednocześnie w artykule wskazano metody pozwalające oczyścić wyniki finansowe spółek o zdarzenie związane z wyceną aktywów biologicznych, co pozwoli uniknąć błędów w procesie oszacowania wartości przedsiębiorstw z tego sektora gospodarki
    The article presents impact analysis of IAS 41 „Agriculture” on financial statements of companies which operate in the agricultural sector. In addition, the authors analyse the impact of IAS 41 on multiple valuations that can lead to misguided investment decisions. The questions in the paper are the result of review and analysis of financial statements of the companies operating in the agricultural segment. The authors focus especially on biological asset revaluation. The authors analyse financial statements for the period from 2015 to 2017. The analysis shows that biological asset revaluation is a significant part of reported earnings. Using unadjusted metrics such as EV/EBITDA or net debt/EBITDA can lead to misguided investment decisions. In this research, the authors explain difficulties in valuation of agricultural companies and show how to remove biological asset revaluation effect from financial statement which allow to avoid potential mistakes in the investment decisions.

    Valuing an early stage company is a big challenge mainly because of the short history, limited scope or lack of financial data and many uncertain factors that impact its future development. Usually, the younger the company, the more difficult it is to valuate it which is more like art than science. The article presents traditional valuation methods and their variations along with alternative ways to estimate the value of young companies.
    Wycena przedsiębiorstwa we wczesnej fazie rozwoju stanowi wyzwanie ze względu m.in. na krótką historię działalności, ograniczony zakres lub brak danych finansowych oraz niepewność wielu czynników wpływających na jej dalszy rozwój. Generalnie, im młodsze przedsiębiorstwo, tym większa trudność przeprowadzenia wyceny, co pod wieloma względami bardziej przypomina sztukę niż naukę. W artykule zostały przedstawione tradycyjne metody i ich modyfikacje oraz alternatywne sposoby oszacowania wartości młodych przedsiębiorstw.

    Celem niniejszego artykułu jest oszacowanie wysokości oferowanej premii w wezwaniach przeprowadzonych na GPW w Warszawie w latach 2010-2018. Autorzy dokonali również analizy wysokości premii w zależności od kapitalizacji podmiotu, którego akcje są przedmiotem wezwania. W artykule wskazano także, jaki odsetek zakończonych wezwań skutkował realizacją transakcji. Przedstawione w pracy tezy są efektem analizy publicznych wezwań dotyczących spółek notowanych na Głównym Rynku GPW w Warszawie w okresie 2010-2018. W ocenie autorów, premia w publicznych wezwaniach jest zjawiskiem powszechnym i nie musi być związana z przejęciem kontroli w spółce publicznej.
    This paper aims to estimate the public tender offer premium for tender offers announced at the Warsaw Stock Exchange (GPW) between 2010 and 2018. In addition, the authors examined the premium in relation to market capitalisation of the economic operator whose stocks are covered by the public tender offer. The paper also indicates what proportion of completed public tender offers have led to successful transactions. The theses included in the paper are the effect of investigation into public tender offers announced for companies listed at the Warsaw Stock Exchange GPW Main Market over the period 2010-2018. The authors are of the opinion that a premium is a common feature of public tender offers and does not have to be linked to taking control over a public company.

    Opis:
    The occurrence of hernias in pigs is a serious breeding and veterinary problem. Hernia is a condition in which internal organs (most often intestines), protrude through an opening in the layers of muscle and connective tissue of the abdominal wall. There are two major types of hernia - umbilical and inguinal. This pathology is a serious problem in pig production, leading to economic loss through the cost of surgical intervention, increased mortality rate, and reduced carcass value. The overall incidence of hernias in a normal swine population is low but may increase due to matings to a boar that transmits inguinal hernias. The heritability of this trait oscillates around 0.3. Current knowledge of hernias in pigs is scarce, and mostly based on genome-wide association studies. In this review, we indicate the recent studies concerning the genetic markers association analysis in terms of heritability of hernias in pigs. Moreover, the new approach focused on differently expressed genes in swine hernias etiology is here discussed.

    An edge-coloured connected graph $G = (V,E)$ is called rainbow-connected if each pair of distinct vertices of $G$ is connected by a path whose edges have distinct colours. The rainbow connection number of $G$, denoted by $ \text{rc}(G)$, is the minimum number of colours such that $G$ is rainbow-connected. In this paper we prove that $ \text{rc}(G) \le k $ if $ |V (G)| = n $ and \( |E(G)| \ge \binom{n-k+1}{2} + k -1 \) for all integers $n$ and $k$ with $n − 6 \le k \le n − 3 $. We also show that this bound is tight.

    A graph G of order n is called arbitrarily vertex decomposable if for each sequence (a₁,...,aₖ) of positive integers such that a₁+...+aₖ = n there exists a partition (V₁,...,Vₖ) of the vertex set of G such that for each i ∈ {1,...,k}, $V_i$ induces a connected subgraph of G on $a_i$ vertices. D. Barth and H. Fournier showed that if a tree T is arbitrarily vertex decomposable, then T has maximum degree at most 4. In this paper we give a complete characterization of arbitrarily vertex decomposable caterpillars with four leaves. We also describe two families of arbitrarily vertex decomposable trees with maximum degree three or four.

    The effects of inhibitors of plasma membrane NADPH oxidase on menadione-induced cell injury processes were studied using human osteosarcoma 143B cells. The intracellular level of superoxide in the cells treated with menadione for 6 h reached a maximum followed by an abrupt decrease. The population of apoptotic cells detected by Annexin V and propidium iodide double staining also reached its maximum at 6 h of menadione-treatment while that of necrotic cells increased continuously reaching 90% of the total population at 9 h of the treatment. Pretreatment of the cells with inhibitors of NADPH oxidase, including diphenyliodonium chloride, apocynin, N-vanillylnonanamide and staurosporine was effective in lowering the menadione-induced elevations of superoxide, and also in the suppression of the switch of the cell death mode from apoptosis to necrosis in menadione-treated cells except for the case of staurosporine. These results strongly suggest that superoxide generated by NADPH oxidase, besides that generated by the mitochondria, may contribute to the remarkable increase in the intracellular level of superoxide in the cells treated with menadione for 6 h resulting in the switch from apoptosis to necrosis, although a direct evidence of the presence of active and inactive forms of NADPH oxidase in control and menadione-treated 143B cells is lacking at present.

    Opis:
    A total k-coloring of a graph G is a coloring of vertices and edges of G using colors of the set {1, . . ., k}. These colors can be used to distinguish adjacent vertices of G. There are many possibilities of such a distinction. In this paper, we focus on the one by the full sum of colors of a vertex, i.e., the sum of the color of the vertex, the colors on its incident edges and the colors on its adjacent vertices. This way of distinguishing vertices has similar properties to the method when we only use incident edge colors and to the corresponding 1-2-3 Conjecture.

    Opis:
    Analysis of microsatellite instability (MI) and loss of heterozygosity (LOH) is recommended for screening patients with sporadic and hereditary malignancies. This study shows an application of a fluorescent hexaplex PCR system for microsatellite typing on A.L.F. DNA Sequencer (Pharmacia Biotech). This technique detects changes in microsatellites providing a time-efficient, reliable and accurate method for MI and LOH analyses. The Fragment Manager software was used for automated size calculation and quantitation of DNA fragments, enabling rapid and precise measurement of allelic ratios. We examined 70 breast cancer and 70 control DNA specimens, classified all the patterns of microsatellite alterations, and set up MI and LOH assessment criteria for the automated multiplex fluorescent method.

    Opis:
    Serious damage to the inner rim of the rear twin wheel in one dump truck was noted during the operation of the fleet performing transport tasks. It was a drive wheel, and its damage occurred while driving with a load exceeding the permissible value. The examination of selected fragments of the damaged rim surface was conducted visually as well as using a digital microscope with a portable head. The measurements of the Vickers hardness and microscopic observations of the material structure of the sample cut along the thickness of the rim disk were carried out. The drive torque loading of the twin wheels of the tipper-truck rear axle, under their mating with different kinds of road roughness and under various vertical loads of the wheels was calculated. An analysis of stress distributions in the rim modelled using the Finite Element Method was also conducted for several possible scenarios of wheel loading. The damage to the rim was caused by simultaneous action of several factors, such as overloading the car, poor condition of the tires, loading the drive wheel by a part of the vehicle weight and the driving torque, and hitting a wheel on a cavity in a dirt road, causing a temporary relief of one of the tires on a twin wheel.

    Opis:
    Characterization of free radical-induced cell injury processes of placenta cells is of vital importance for clinical medicine for the maintenance of intrauterine fetal life. The present study has analyzed cell injury processes in cells of the choriocarcinoma cell line JAR treated with menadione, an anticancer drug, and Hg2O2 in comparison to osteosarcoma 143B cells using electron microscopic and flow cytometric techniques. Flow cytometry on JAR cells exposed to 100 μM menadione and double-stained with Annexin V and propidium iodide (PI) detected apoptotic cells reaching the maximum after 4 h of incubation with a rapid decrease thereafter. Viable cells became decreased to 46% of the control after 2 h of incubation, reaching 5% after 4 h. Cells stainable with both Annexin V and PI began to increase distinctly after 2 h of incubation, reaching 55% after 4 h. Electron microscopy showed that cells stainable with both dyes specified above had condensed nuclei and swollen cytoplasm, suggesting that they were undergoing a switch of the cell death mode from apoptosis to necrosis. On the other hand, 90% of 143B cells remained intact after 4 h of menadione treatment although the intracellular levels of superoxide were always higher than those of JAR cells treated with the drug. In contrast, JAR cells were more resistant than 143B cells to H2O2-induced cytotoxicity. These results may suggest that cytotoxicity of menadione cannot be explained simply by oxygen free radicals generated from the drug. The resistance of JAR cells to oxygen free radical-induced cytotoxicity may be advantageous for intrauterine fetal life.
