Opis:
An issue of mean residence time (MRT) evaluation, i.e. the period of time from rainfall until drainage of groundwater by rivers (Danube River Basin, Vistula River Basin and Narew River Basin), is discussed Asimple method of evaluating the groundwater MRT for the Danube River Basin based on tritium data is introduced. It has been confirmed that the historical tritium level in the rivers, being higher than in precipitation, has its end and is reversed, opening a new pathway in understanding the surface-groundwater interaction and specifically in evaluating MRT of groundwater. The authors have defined a separate notification for mean residence time of the whole water in the basin (τ) and mean residence time for groundwater in the basin (τwp). Based on the tritium study the obtained τ values are 6.5 and 5.7 years for the Vistula River Basin (VRB) and the Narew River Basin (NRB), respectively. In turn, the obtained τwp values are 8.0 and 6.0 years, respectively. NRB is a lowland plain and a morphologically, geologically and hydrogeologically uniform basin. The obtained τ wp of groundwater is thus representative for the whole basin. Instead inmorphologically non uniform VRB basin groundwater τwp is a generalized value,i.e.averaged over contributed parts of the basin.

Opis:
The points of the national network of groundwater monitoring comprise a stable benchmarks in quality and quantity monitoring. The obtained data (tritium and δ18O) are important for understanding the groundwater cycling and are indirect indicators of aquifer vulnerability to anthropogenic pollution. The goal of this paper is to present the relation of the tritium content and delta value of stable isotopes of oxygen against the groundwater sampling depth in 2004–2012. It is demonstrated that the remains of “nuclear” tritium concentration is still present in groundwater as a tritium peak at depths around 30 m. Determination of dynamics of recharge in groundwater bodies, based on national network observation points is associated to the estimation of the groundwater residence time in aquifers and remains one the vital problem of hydrogeology.

Electrical and magnetic properties of ZnCoO thin films grown on silicon substrates by atomic layer deposition method are investigated. The films were grown using reactive organic precursors of zinc and cobalt. The use of these precursors allowed us the significant reduction of a growth temperature to 200°C and below, which proved to be very important for the growth of uniform films of ZnCoO. We have measured the microwave AC conductivity and EPR for two types of ZnCoO samples, with different Co fractions.

Optical and magnetic properties of ZnMnO films are discussed based on the results of cathodoluminescence, photoluminescence, and magneto-photoluminescence investigations. We show that photoluminescence/cathodoluminescence emissions are strongly quenched and become in-plane inhomogeneous in samples with increased Mn fractions. Strong polarization of photoluminescence is observed, even though excitonic lines do not shift and are not split at magnetic fields up to 6 T.

We analyse the recently observed effect of an in-plane electric current through a Si quantum well on the conduction electron spin resonance. We find that the ratio of resonance shift and current density is independent of temperature and dissipation processes, but the channel current is reduced due to a parallel electric channel in heavily modulation doped samples. The inhomogeneous current distribution results in some broadening of the ESR line width. In high mobility Si/SiGe layers the current induced increase in the electron temperature is considerably larger than the increase in the lattice temperature. The signal amplitude scales with the square of electron mobility.

We analyze the power absorption at electron spin resonance excited by the Bychkov-Rashba spin-orbit field in a 2D electron gas. We show that, as long as the absorbed power is dissipated by the usual spin lattice relaxation mechanisms, the resonance line shape is expected to be of pure absorption type, i.e., it can be described by the imaginary part of the dynamic magnetic susceptibility. Therefore, the Dysonian line shape observed in ESR of 2D electron gas cannot result from this type of the resonance signal.

Opis:
In this paper we present our observation of electric dipole spin resonance and current induced spin resonance in ZnO bulk crystals, both effects result from spin-orbit coupling. Electric dipole spin resonance originates from admixture of spin state due to spin-orbit interaction which leads to probability of spin-flip caused by electric component of microwave field. In current induced spin resonance phenomenon the electric component of microwave field induces electron motion leading to mean ac spin-orbit field that acts on electron spin. Spin-orbit interaction can be described in terms of the Rashba field, an effective magnetic field that induce spin resonance. In contrast to magnetic and electric dipole spin resonances the current induced resonance is characterized by dispersive-like line shape.

4-Aryl-substituted 1-aminonaphthalene-2-carbonitriles and 3-phenyl-1-oxo-1H-indene-2-carbonitriles were prepared in a two--step synthesis from appropriate carbonyl compounds and were evaluated in vitro for growth-inhibiting activity against some phytopathogenic fungi: Fusarium culmorum, Penicillium expansum, Botrytis cinerea and Alternaria species. The results were compared with the activity of a commercial fungicide - captan. The highest fungistatic activity was revealed by 1-amino-4-phenylnaphthalene-2-carbonitrile. An efficient synthesis of 1-amino-4-arylnaphthalene-2-carbonitriles involves condensation of diarylacetaldehydes or 1,1-diarylacetones with malonodinitrile and cyclization of the obtained aryl-ylidenemalonodinitriles in concentrated sulfuric acid. The benzannulation reaction is accompanied by a quasi-aromatic rearrangement. The indenone derivatives were synthesized in the same manner from substituted benzophenones. As the formation of five-membered ring during the cyclization of diarylmethylidenemalonodinitriles was less effective, the rearrangement was not observed.

We investigate the spin resonance of electrons in one-sided modulation doped Si$\text{}_{1-x}$Ge$\text{}_{x}$ (x=0-10%)) quantum wells defined by Si$\text{}_{0.75}$Ge$\text{}_{0.25}$ barriers. In such structures, the Bychkov-Rashba effect induces an effective magnetic field in the quantum well layer which causes anisotropy of both the g-factor and the spin coherence time. Evaluation of the Rashba coefficient as a function of x yields a monotonic increase. For x=5% the shift in the resonance field exceeds the ESR linewidth already, demonstrating the possibility to use this effect for g-factor tuning to select individual spins in an ensemble.

Different types of magnetic resonance observed in Ga$\text{}_{1-x}$Mn$\text{}_{x}$As reflect three different magnetic phases: para-, ferro-, and ferrimagnetic. Ferromagnet is characterized by single isotropic resonance line. A complex spectrum in ferrimagnet can be described by g factor equal to 1.44 and a sum of an axial and cubic anisotropy field. The axial field is by an order of magnitude greater than the cubic one. The complex structure of ferrimagnetic resonance is attributed to spin-wave resonance. Quantitative analysis of the dispersion of spin wave shows that the range of exchange coupling is very long, of the order of 25 nm, while spin-wave stiffness and the total exchange field are very small. The exchange field as evaluated from spin wave is by two orders of magnitude smaller than the Zener field corresponding to the critical temperature.

We present the results of electron paramagnetic resonance investigations of GaN bulk crystals doped with Mn. The EPR experiment shows the Mn$\text{}^{2+}$ resonance in all the investigated n-type crystals, while in highly resistive samples extra doped with Mg acceptor the Mn$\text{}^{2+}$ resonance decreases. This is a consequence of the location of Mn acceptor level in GaN band gap. The analysis of the spin relaxation times reveals the Korringa scattering as the dominating spin relaxation mechanism in n-type GaN:Mn crystals. The effective exchange constant determined from spin relaxation rate temperature dependence is of the order of 14 meV.

Molecular beam epitaxy grown Ga$\text{}_{1-x}$Mn$\text{}_{x}$As layers were investigated by means of magnetic resonances. With an increase in Mn concentration, x, the spectrum changes from the (i) paramagnetic one, with resolved fine and hyperfine structures, typical of S=5/2 spin of substitutional Mn$\text{}^{2+}$ ions, for very diluted alloy, via (ii) paramagnetic spectrum, where the fine and hyperfine structures are averaged by a long range Mn$\text{}^{2+}$-Mn$\text{}^{2+}$ exchange coupling, (iii) single, isotropic line of ferromagnetic resonance. Insulator to metal transition is accompanied with occurrence of (iv) a very complex spectrum of the ferrimagnetic resonance, accompanied with the well-resolved spin wave resonance. Reentrance to insulator phase for the most condensed alloys is accompanied with the reentrance to (v) ferromagnetic phase. The data confirm that the effective mass holes transfer the exchange interaction between localized Mn$\text{}^{2+}$ spins.
