Opis:: The article discusses the subject of conversion as a subject of poetry on the example of the work of Roman Brandstaetter. It focused on the post-war creativity of the author, who in 1946 officially abandoned Judaism, received baptism and became a Catholic. Focused on two aspects of conversion. First of all, these were the circumstances of life: the need to leave the country, problems related to the Polish-Jewish identity, death of parents, parting with the first wife. Secondly, these were issues related to the biblical experience of God, because reading the Bible had a great significance for the poet since the time of Polish studies. Confirmations of the issue are confirmed by quotes from works that are testimonies of changes taking place in the author’s life, making up a rich picture of his spiritual transformation.

Opis:: Celem artykułu jest zarysowanie teorii, a także kierunku i wyników badań dotyczących altruizmu oraz zachowań prospołecznych w ekonomii. W tekście zostały przedstawione podstawowe założenia ekonomii neoklasycznej, według której decydenci są samolubni i racjonalni oraz maksymalizują własną użyteczność, a następnie ekonomii behawioralnej, będącej alternatywnym spojrzeniem na racjonalność jednostek w obliczu wyborów ekonomicznych. Następnie została omówiona metodologia i wyniki badań nad altruizmem w ekonomii eksperymentalnej z użyciem gry ultimatum, gry dyktator oraz gry o dobro publiczne. W końcowej części pracy opisano wybrane postacie funkcji użyteczności proponowane przez ekonomię behawioralną, uwzględniające, że na użyteczność decydentów ekonomicznych nie wpływa wyłącznie ich własne dobro lub majątek, ale także sytuacja i dobrobyt innych.
The aim of this paper is to outline the theory, direction, and results of research on altruism and pro-social behaviour in economics. The text presents the basic assumptions of neoclassical economics, which assumes that decision-makers are selfish, rational and maximize their utility, and then behavioural economics, which is an alternative view of the rationality of individuals when faced with economic choices. The methodology and results of research on altruism in experimental economics using the ultimatum game, the dictator game, and the public good game are then discussed. The final part of the paper describes selected forms of the utility function proposed by behavioural economics, taking into account that the utility of economic decisionmakers is not only affected by their own well-being or wealth, but also by the situation and welfare of others.

Opis:: This paper addresses a phenomenon of the international success of Swedish female writers in the 19th century. I have focused on the Polish translations of Marie Sophie Schwartz’s works, which became extremely popular in the 1860’s and 1870’s, judging from the number of books translated in comparison to other Swedish bestselling writers. One of the most important issues for Schwartz was emancipation, specifically women’s right to education, employment and econo-mic autonomy. Her novel Emancipation Frenzy was translated into Polish in 1865 and 1876. Both translations differ as to the accuracy in rendering the emancipa-tion message. The earlier translation tends to omit or soften the author’s radical opinions on emancipation, which flattens the novel’s progressive message. The later one is closer to the original and articulates emancipation claims more faithfully. This probably has to do with the fact that the Polish emancipation de-bate was already more developed in the 1870s. That seems to confirm a funda-mental thesis of Translations Studies that translation not only communicates the message of the source text but also comprises an inscription of the host culture’s current standards and needs. Thus, the novels by Schwartz were initially read as popular literature, and over time they were perceived as socially engaged literature (Tendenzroman), which corresponded to the Polish nationalistic program.

Opis:: Artykuł podejmuje temat językowych reprezentacji kulturowej odmienności w literaturze szwedzkiej, przedstawiającej środowiska imigranckie i/lub rozwarstwione klasowo. Język, zarówno protagonistów jak i narracji, jest konstruktem literackim, który eksponuje jedynie niektóre elementy językowe (głównie leksykalne) jako relewantne dla osiągnięcia pragmatycznego celu – efektu obcości. Przedmiotem artykułu jest analiza stylistyczna zastosowanych środków oraz strategie tłumaczy zmierzające do uzyskania ekwiwalencji funkcjonalnej.
The article takes up the problem of linguistic representations of cultural otherness in Swedish literature featuring immigrant and/or class-stratified environments. The language, both of the protagonists as well as the narration, is a literary construct exposing only those linguistic elements (mainly lexical ones) which are relevant for achieving a pragmatic purpose – the effect of otherness. The article presents a stylistic analysis of the means of expression employed together with translators' strategies aimed at achieving a functional equivalence.

Opis:: Introduction: The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is one of most important structures in the knee joint. It contains mechanoreceptors, that respond to mechanical pressure or distortion and enable one to feel the knee position and proprioreception. Injury of this structure can lead to changes in knee function. Issues which relate to knee translation and knee effusion are widely described in scientific literature but increasingly more attention is being paid to muscle function: strength and stiffness. ACL trauma is often accompanied by a sensation of instability and pain during knee load. This is accompanied by joint effusion, which gradually limits the knee range of motion, exacerbates the pain and secondarily has an impact on muscle function. Functional shortening of the hamstrings can be a symptom of inappropriate control in the knee joint. Material and methods: The study was carried out in a group of 46 men aged 18–46 years old, with a mean age of 25 years old (SD = 6) with an ACL injury, which was stated after 5–52 weeks from the injury, a mean of 20 weeks (SD = 15). The functional length of the hamstring and rectus femoris muscle were measured both passively and actively by a Saunders inclinometer which allows measurement with precision up to 1°. Results: Statistical analysis revealed a statistically significant negative correlation between functional shortening of the hamstring and rectus femoris muscle in the healthy extremity, in active and passive tests. Conclusion: With the increase in functional shortening of the hamstring, functional shortening of the rectus femoris muscle is diminished, both in active and passive tests in the healthy and ACL injured extremity.
WSTĘP: Więzadło krzyżowe przednie jest jedną z ważniejszych struktur stawu kolanowego. Zawiera mechanoreceptory, które dzięki wrażliwości na ruch umożliwiają odczuwanie pozycji stawowej oraz kinestezji. Uszkodzenie powoduje zmiany w funkcji kolana. W literaturze szeroko opisywane są pozycje dotyczące translacji oraz wysięku, ale coraz większą uwagę zwraca się na funkcję mięśni: siłę i sztywność. Urazowi towarzyszą uczucie niestabilności kolana i ból przy obciążeniu kończyny urazowej. Występuje również wysięk, który stopniowo ogranicza zakres ruchu w stawie, wzmaga dolegliwości bólowe oraz wtórnie może wpłynąć na funkcje mięśni. Skrócenie funkcjonalne mięśni kulszowo-goleniowych może być objawem nieprawidłowej kontroli w obrębie stawu kolanowego. MATERIAŁ I METODY: Badania zostały przeprowadzone na grupie 46 mężczyzn w wieku 18–46 lat (średnia wieku 25 lat; SD 6), u których stwierdzono zerwanie więzadła krzyżowego przedniego (anterior cruciate ligament – ACL) po 5–52 tygodniach od urazu (średnia 20 tygodni; SD 15). Dokonano pomiaru długości czynnościowej mięśni kulszowo-goleniowych oraz prostego uda zarówno w sposób bierny, jak i czynny. W tym celu użyto inklinometru Saundersa, który pozwala dokonać pomiaru do 1°. WYNIKI: Analiza statystyczna wykazała istotną statystycznie ujemną korelację między skróceniem funkcjonalnym mięśni kulszowo-goleniowych a prostym uda w kończynie zdrowej w badaniu czynnym oraz biernym. WNIOSKI: Wraz ze wzrostem funkcjonalnego skrócenia mięśni kulszowo-goleniowych zmniejsza się skrócenie funkcjonalne mięśnia prostego uda zarówno w badaniu czynnym, jak i biernym w kończynie zdrowej. Wzrostowi skrócenia funkcjonalnego mięśni kulszowo-goleniowych towarzyszy spadek skrócenia mięśnia prostego uda w kończynie z zerwanym ACL zarówno w badaniu czynnym, jak i biernym.

Opis:: A group of supported ruthenium catalysts was prepared and tested in methanation of small CO amounts (7000 ppm) in hydrogen-rich streams. High surface area graphitized carbon (484 m2/g) was used as a support for ruthenium and RuCl3 was used as a Ru precursor. Some of the Ru/C systems were additionally doped with barium (Ba(NO3)2 was barium precursor). The catalysts were characterized by the chemisorption technique using CO as an adsorbate. To determine the resistance of the catalysts to undesired carbon support methanation, the TG-MS experiments were performed. They revealed that the barium addition inhibits support losses. The studies of CO methanation (fl ow reactor, atmospheric pressure) have shown that some of the supported ruthenium catalysts exhibit high activities referred to the metal mass. The catalytic properties of ruthenium proved to be dependent on metal dispersion. Some of the Ru/C and Ba-Ru/C systems exhibit higher activity in CO hydrogenation than the commercial nickel-based catalyst.
