The number of cars in Polish families is growing year by year. Among the vehicle users there is a group that does not have sufficient knowledge about the proper operation of the vehicle, especially under the conditions of the weather. This article is addressed to this group. It is characterized by brief information on operating fluids, fuel consumption in winter, use of vehicles equipped with gas system, tires of vehicles. They are also given practical advice on operating a car in winter.

Opis:
Two strength-age hardening aluminum-lithium alloys: Al-2.3wt%Li and Al-2.2wt%Li-0.1wt%Zr in two different heat treatment conditions: solution state (S) and additionally in aging state (A) were severely plastically deformed by rolling with cyclic movement of rolls (RCMR) method to produce ultrafine - grained structure. Two thermo-mechanical treatments were used: (S+A+RCMR) and (S+RCMR+A+RCMR). To investigate the combined effect of plastic deformation and heat treatment, tensile tests were performed. Microstructural observations were undertaken using scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM), and scanning transmission electron microscopy (SEM) equipped with electron backscattering diffraction detector (EBSD). Based on the obtained results, it can be deduced that maximum mechanical properties as: yield strength (YS) and ultimate tensile strength (UTS) couldbe achieved when the microstructure of alloys is in (S+A+RCMR) state. For samples in (S+RCMR+A+RCMR) state, ductility is higher than for (S+A+RCMR) state. The microstructural results shows that the favourable conditions for decreasing grain size of alloys is (S+A+RCMR) state. Additionally, in this state is much greater dislocation density than for (S+RCMR+A+RCMR) state. The microstructure of alloys in (S+RCMR+A+RCMR) state is characterized by grains/subgrains with higher average diameter and with higher misorientation angles compared with (S+A+RCMR) state.

W artykule zostało omówione prawodawstwo z zakresu problematyki przewozu towarów niebezpiecznych. Scharakteryzowano akty prawne regulujące transport drogowy, kolejowy, śródlądowy, morski i lotniczy. Realizowanie przewozów zgodnie z wymaganiami zawartymi w omówionych przepisach gwarantuje optymalny poziom bezpieczeństwa, minimalizując wystąpienie wypadku, incydentu lub zdarzenia awaryjnego, które mogłoby doprowadzić do utraty zdrowia i życia ludzkiego, zniszczenia środowiska naturalnego oraz zniszczenia mienia.
Substances, mixtures and articles meeting the criteria for classification as dangerous goods should be transported in accordance with the requirements set out in the relevant legislation, adequate for the type of transport. Conditions for the transport of dangerous goods by road transport have been determined in European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road (ADR), by rail transport in Regulations concerning the International Transport of Dangerous Goods by Rail (RID), by inland waterway transport in European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Inland Waterways (ADN), by sea transport in International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code (IMDG Code), by air transport in ICAO Technical Instructions for The Safe Transport of Dangerous Goods by Air (ICAO TI) and IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations (IATA DGR). In addition, certain national laws, on the territory of countries are respected in this regard, but these regulations must not impair the safety level established by international regulations. The guidelines set up in this field allow to undertake by the participants the necessary measures in order to prevent threats to people, the environment and property, and in the case of an accident, incident or malfunction allow to undertake measures to reduce the spread of emerging risks and actions minimizing its effects.

Na całym świecie można w tej grupie zaobserwować tendencję wzrostu zapotrzebowania na własny środek transportu. Jednym z kryteriów branych pod uwagę przy wyborze własnego środka transportu jest ekonomiczność. W przypadku samochodów wykorzystywanych na co dzień przez mieszkańców miast będzie to równoznaczne z ilością spalanego paliwa. W artykule przedstawiono rzeczywiste wartości spalonego paliwa wybranych samochodów. Dane te zostały porównane z deklarowanymi przez producentów samochodów.
Dynamically developing society shows a growing need for mobility, both people and cargo. Consequently, this leads to an increase in demand for means of transport, which will be able to satisfy all needs. Among the entities having transport needs are urban residents. All over the world can be observed in this group of the upward trend in demand for their own means of transport. One of the criteria taken into account when choosing their own means of transport is the economy. In the case of vehicles used every day by the inhabitants of the cities that would be equivalent to the amount of combusted fuel. The article presents the real value of combusted fuel of selected cars. These data were compared with the declared by the car manufacturers.

In the last two decades two underground storage facilities were constructed by leaching caverns in salt domes in Poland. Although the storage facilities appeared successful, many wrong ideas about geological and technical problems connected with the underground storage in salt caverns are still popular. Therefore, the paper presents a brief review of the most important aspects of this subject along with history of underground storage in salt caverns, types of storage facilities and geological and technical conditions to be met in selection of the site. Moreover, the problems of water supply and brine recycling or disposal are also discussed and issues connected with spacing, shape and size of caverns and tightness and operation pressure ranged are presented.

Opis:
In energy systems of developed EU countries, the serious problem is periodic surplus of electricity production, following by deficiencies of electricity. They are particularly important in systems, where renewable energy sources (wind/solar) are significant. These are irregular power sources, depending on season and day time. Power installed in such stations is much less used than power installed in thermal or nuclear power stations. Problem is growing with increase of renewable energy share, in conjunction with the pro-ecological EU policy and continuous support for renewable energy sources. For example, in Germany (in 2011) 20% of produced electricity comes from renewable sources, in 2020 it has to be 35%, and 80% in 2050, because of nuclear plants closing and reducing the CO2 emission. Total power of wind stations there is 29 GW and of solar is 24 GW, despite the unfavorable, as it seems, climate. Germany becomes a world leader in the solar power, and power installed there is similar to total solar plants power in the rest of the world. And plans for 2050 are: 80 GW (wind) and 65 GW (solar). Such a situation in neighboring country, with similar climate, considerably more developed, indicates that similar trends will be present also here. Currently, we are at the beginning - in 2011 total power of wind stations in Poland was 2 GW, and of solar stations – 2 MW. This means the lowest use of both energies among EU, per capita and per 1 km2. In coming years the share of renewable energy sources in Poland must radically increase. Planning in Poland for 2030 is 19% of energy from renewable sources, in comparison with 6% at present (mainly hydro and biomass). Irregularities in electricity production from wind/sun, make this energy still quite expensive. If usage of this energy periodic surpluses would be practically solved, resulting prices would be lower. Problem of electricity storage has not yet been generally solved. There are hydro pumped plants, but they cannot be applied larger, because specific terrain layout is required and the impact on environment is high. Future of surplus electricity storage lies under the ground, in caverns leached in salt deposits, where one can store energy as hydrogen obtained by water electrolysis or as compressed air. This would give much greater density of stored energy than pumped hydro, without the negative environmental impact. In Poland we have appropriate salt deposits, and proven technology of salt caverns building. We already have efficiently working storages in salt caverns: KPMG Mogilno (Cavern Underground Gas Storage - owner PGNiG) and PMRiP Góra (Underground Storage of Oil and Fuels - owner SOLINO/ORLEN). In EU, both such magazines, besides of Poland, are built only in Germany and France. CHEMKOP was the initiator, originator and designer of both Polish underground storages, and specialized computer software for cavern designing, developed in CHEMKOP Sp. z o.o. was purchased (licenses) by 30 leading companies from all over the world. Salt caverns, similar to natural gas storage caverns, after due designing, may be successfully built for hydrogen, and in this form may store the excess energy. Hydrogen will be produced by water electrolysis using excess electricity, stored in salt cavern and afterwards used in different ways: as supplement to natural gas in gas network, as fuel for fuel cells or electro generators or as a raw material in petrochemical industry. The key issue is the salt caverns – they should be located where disposing of brine is possible. Hydrogen storage should be located near potential places of its use. At present, few hydrogen storage salt caverns are existing in UK and USA, but for petrochemical use, not for energy purposes. Special hydrogen pipeline in USA, 300 miles long, connected storage caverns with hydrogen producers and users. The first storage cavern for hydrogen produced from surplus electricity will be built in Etzel (Germany). Pilot peak power stations, working on compressed air from salt caverns are working in Germany (Huntorf) and in USA (McIntosh). Currently most of the research related to hydrogen storage takes place in Germany. It is associated with energy balance of Germany, with large amount of salt deposits and with high level of technologies for underground storage. Matter is urgent, because problem of periodic local energy surpluses in German network is so serious, that Poland and Czech Republic are forced to build special devices on border network connections, to reduce the impact of these irregularities on their own networks. In next few years, as expected, Germany will develop more economical hydrogen electrolysis technology and adequate electrolyzers will be produced. The surface equipment for hydrogen pumping stations will be also available. Poland has periodic surpluses of electricity production even now and very good possibility of salt caverns construction in comparison with others. Most countries do not have appropriate salt deposits, so we can become one of the European champions in storage of hydrogen – the fuel of future. It is necessary, however, to start the research work for such a storage just now. In the authors opinion, the research works should include: • identify the needs for energy storage in Poland, estimate a surplus of energy for storage in hydrogen or compressed air caverns, determine recommendation for hydrogen production by water electrolysis on a wider scale, • define possibility of storage caverns construction for hydrogen in Polish salt deposits, • determine specificity of storage caverns construction for hydrogen: size and shape, working pressures, recommendations for drilling/completion, used materials, • examine geomechanical stability of hydrogen storage caverns in their specific pressure conditions, using special computer model, • examine thermodynamic behavior of hydrogen storage caverns in their specific temperature conditions, using computer model for hydrogen cavern, • compare and evaluate hydrogen storage and compressed air storage technologies for energy surpluses (HYES/ CAES), looking for their usefulness in Polish conditions. Further research work will help to create a sound basis for taking decision to build underground energy storage by specifying: storage policies, applied technology, location of storage caverns and scenarios of their work. Final remarks • Technical and economical problems with proper use of renewable energy sources will be increasing in Poland in nearest future year by year, similarly as currently in Germany. • The problem cannot be solved in other way than storage of energy surplus for use during deficiency periods. • The best solution, at present, is energy storage in salt caverns in the form of hydrogen. • In Poland, we have both appropriate salt deposits and large experience in designing and construction of salt cavern storages. • We are world leaders in computer modeling of development and operation of salt cavern. • Our experience can be extended to the hydrogen storage, provided that relevant research work will start and be performed. • So, there is a chance that Poland will become one of the leading country in storage of hydrogen – a clean fuel of the future.

Opis:
The material under investigation was a welded joint made of 7CrMoVTiB10-10 (T24) steel after 36,000 hours of use at the temperature of 540°C and pressure of 27 MPa. The test samples for the study were taken from a membrane wall of a USC steam boiler. The research scope included: analysis of chemical composition of the original and the additional material (weld pass), investigation of the microstructure using optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy, as well as tests of mechanical properties of the joint - hardness measurement. It was proved that the investigated joint was characterised by a regular structure, without any welding defects, which probably resulted from the application of the additional material based on the CrMo steel from the weld root side. The observation showed that the microstructure of the original material consisted of granular bainite with numerous precipitates. In the heat affected zone and in the weld, the microstructure of lath bainite (bainitic-martensitic microstructure) was observed, also with numerous precipitates. The hardness of the analysed joint was lower than the limiting value of 350HV.
Badaniu poddano jednoimienne złącze spawane stali 7CrMoVTiB10-10 (T24) po ok. 36 000 godzinach eksploatacji w temperaturze 540°C i ciśnieniu 27 MPa. Próbki do badań pobrano z wycinka ściany szczelnej kotła energetycznego na parametry nadkrytyczne. Zakres przeprowadzonych badań obejmował: analizę składu chemicznego materiału rodzimego oraz materiału dodatkowego, badania mikrostrukturalne za pomocą mikroskopii świetlnej i skaningowej mikroskopii elektronowej oraz badania właściwości mechanicznych złącza - pomiar twardości. Wykazano, że badane złącze charakteryzuje się prawidłową budową, bez niezgodności spawalniczych, co zapewne wynika z zastosowania od strony grani materiału dodatkowego na bazie stali CrMo. Przeprowadzone obserwacje wykazały, że mikrostruktura materiału rodzimego składa się z bainitu ziarnistego z licznymi wydzieleniami. W strefie wpływu ciepła i spoinie obserwowano mikrostrukturę bainitu listwowego (bainityczno-martenzytyczną) również z licznymi wydzieleniami. Twardość analizowanego złącza była niższa od wartości granicznej wynoszącej 350HV.

Opis:
Excitonic emission from single InAs/InGaAlAs/InP quantum dashes has been investigated in the context of degree of linear polarization by post-growth modification of its surrounding dielectric medium. We present optical spectroscopy measurements on a symmetric squared pedestal structures (mesas), and asymmetric rectangular ones oriented parallel or perpendicular to the main in-plane axis of the dashes [1-10]. Polarization resolved microphotoluminescence shows a significant quantitative modification of the degree of linear polarization value from -20% up to 70%. These results have been confronted with calculations of the coupling between the exciton transition dipole moment and electromagnetic field distributed in the vicinity of a quantum dash inside a processed mesa.

The paper presents a resistance structures with sensor layers based on nanostructures elaborated on the base of TiO2 and ZnO. The structures were tested concerning their sensitivities to the effects of nitrogen dioxide in the atmosphere of synthetic air. The TiO2 and ZnO nanostructures played the role of sensor layers. Investigations have proved that the elaborated resistance structures with TiO2 and ZnO layers are sensitive to the presence of NO2 in the atmosphere of synthetic air. The resistance of the structure amounted to about 20 in the case of ZnO structures and to about 200 in the case of TiO2 structures. The investigations confirmed that resistance structures with ZnO and TiO2, exposed to the effect of nitrogen dioxide in the atmosphere of synthetic air changes their resistances relatively fast. This indicates that such structures might be practically applied in sensors of nitrogen dioxide ensuring a short time of response.

In the paper the results of investigations are presented concerning the influence of humidity of air on the resistance of a gas sensor structure with a graphene layer. The affects of nitrogen dioxide and humidity action on graphene were studied. We indicated that humidity might play an important role in determining the gas sensing properties of the graphene layer. In the paper it has been shown that in the case of a nitrogen oxide sensor, the reaction of $NO_2$ with water vapour can generate permanent defects in graphene.

Opis:
The paper presents resistance sensor structures with a graphene sensing layer. The structures were tested concerning their sensitivity to the affects of hydrogen, nitrogen dioxide and steam in an atmosphere of a synthetic air. Investigations have proved that resistance structures with a graphene layer are sensitive to the presence of the tested gases. The resistance of the structures amounted to about 10Ω, whereas changes in the resistances affected by the external gaseous medium were contained within the range of a several mΩ. The investigations confirmed that the resistance structures with graphene exposed to the affect of hydrogen in atmosphere of synthetic air change their resistances practically at once (within the order of only a few seconds). This indicates that such structures might be practically applied in sensors of hydrogen ensuring a short time of response.

Opis:
The paper presents the results of investigations on the resistive structure with a graphene oxide (GO) sensing layer. The effects of dangerous gases (hydrogen and nitrogen dioxide) on the structure were studied; the resistance changes were examined during the flow of the selected gas in the atmosphere of synthetic air. Measurements were performed with a special emphasis on the detection of low concentrations of the analyzed gases. The reactions of the sensing structure to the effect of nitrogen and synthetic air at different humidity were also tested. Much attention was also paid to the fast response of the sensor to the changes in the gas atmosphere. The thin palladium layer (~2 nm) has been applied in order to improve the sensing properties of the structure. The investigations were performed in the temperature range from RT to 120°C and the analyzed gases in synthetic air were batched alternately with pure synthetic air.

Opis:
A novel severe plastic deformation method entitled rolling with cyclic movement of rolls was proposed to fabricate ultrafine grained CuCr0.6 copper alloy. The alloy in the solution treated conditions was processed by rolling with cyclic movement of rolls method by using process parameters as amplitude of rolls movement (A = 0.9 mm), frequency of rolls movement (f = 1 Hz), rolling reduction (ε_{h} = 50%) and rolling rate (v = 1, v = 2, v = 3 rpm). Light microscopy, scanning electron microscopy and a electron backscattering diffraction detector, and scanning transmission electron microscopy were used for microstructural characterization, and hardness tests for a preliminary assessment of mechanical properties. Quantitative studies of the average diameter of the subgrains d (μm) and the average diameter of the grains D (μm) were performed using the scanning electron microscopy/electron backscattering diffraction method. Misorientation angles were analyzed by the Kikuchi-line technique using TSL-OIM software. The results show that the samples underwent very high strain at the lateral areas and smaller at the central areas. As a result, the microstructure became heterogeneous and remained unchanged with change in compression rate. The transverse movement of rolls causes in the material significant effect of refining structure in peripheral areas of sample.
