Opis:
Przedmiotem analizy w artykule jest zagadnienie kształtowania kompetencji literackiej czytelnika dziewiętnastowiecznej prasy dla najmłodszych w trudnym dla instytucji oświatowych i wychowawczych okresie porozbiorowym. Periodyki dla dzieci w tym czasie nie tylko rozwijały uczucia i postawy patriotyczne wobec narodu i państwa, które utraciło niepodległość. Ze względu na dramatyczną sytuację szkolnictwa oraz postępującą rusyfikację i germanizację brały czynny udział w edukacji i stanowiły pomoc dydaktyczną dla powszechnego wówczas nauczania domowego. Pojęciem sterującym narracją w artykule jest kompetencja literacka, rozumiana jako zespół predyspozycji warunkujących „kontakt z dziełem”. Bliżej omówiono takie jej składniki, jak: zakres przekazywanej w czasopismach dla dzieci wiedzy o dziełach i ich twórcach; sposoby rozwijania wrażliwości na tekst literacki, potrzebnej do odbioru dzieła, jego rozumienia i interpretacji; sposoby wdrażania czytelnika do twórczej kreacji tekstu własnego.
The aim of the text is to analyse the shaping of the press youngest readers’ literary competence in the era of partitions, which was especially difficult for educational institutions. Periodicals for children at that time not only developed patriotic feeling and attitudes towards the nations and a state, which lost its sovereignty. Due to the dramatic situation of education and progressive russification and germanization, the press took an active part in education and constituted a teaching aid for popular then home schooling. The key term in the article is a literary competence, understood as a set of predispositions conditioning “a contact with the work”. Some components of this competence were closely discussed, namely: the scope of knowledge about the works and their authors passed in magazines for children; ways of developing sensitivity to the literary text necessary to receive the work, its understanding and interpretation; ways of implementing the reader to creative creations of their own text.

Opis:
Terminological lexis in ‘Vilnius Dictionary’ and handwritten lecture notes on agronomy from the mid-19th century. The plot of the article is conditioned by one of the basic issues in the field of philosophy of history, namely the question: to what extent a given dictionary, meeting the scientific requirements of the time of its origin, documents the complete state of lexis of a certain period. The detailed purpose of the article is to show similarities and differences between the ways in which notions and terms are registered and denoted in the lectures delivered in the Agronomic Institute of Marymont in the period of 1848-1850 and in Vilnius Dictionary, written only a bit later. Textual analysis has shown that this most thorough dictionary of its time could not, for number of reasons, document the actual state of terminological lexis. That observation has led to conclusion that the opinions on the state of terminological lexis which were expressed only on the basis of dictionaries had been formed much more carefully than it can be sometimes observed. These opinions are revised when the examples of language usage (specific texts) are taken into consideration.

The detailed studies conducted in the article are based on the issue of heroic narrative. Heroic narrative is a type of writing concerning serious subjects significant to the Polish identity, cultural context and national history. These notions are implemented in language through linguistic features showing pathos and loftiness, uncommon tragedy, violence and vividness of the presented characters and historical events. The aim of the study was to establish a set of features determining the way heroic narrative is written. These features are mainly implemented by literary works and by texts which are strictly literary, but their author was the direct participant of events which were crucial for a given community. The basis of the article is Oblê¿enie i obrona Saragossy w latach 1808 i 1809, ze wzglêdem szczególniejszym na czynnoœci korpusu polskiego. The text can be classified as fiction because its author, Józef Mroziñski, was not a writer but a soldier (a captain) taking part in the military actions described in the text. The idea of “linguistic picture of the world” has been used in the article. It has allowed showing how a direct participant of the battle interprets the reality through the language, which features of people and things he notices and emphasizes and to what extent the linguistic features he uses are typical of heroic narrative. The main tool of description was the notion of attribution, which is understood as a semantic category covering different kinds of features ascribed to the analysed object. The conducted studies have shown that when talking about heroes and crucial historical events one does not always use the features of heroic narrative typical of literary tradition and Polish culture. This article is a contribution to the study of Polish cultural patterns’ sources and their performance in terms of stylistics and sociology. The methodological basis for the article is the idea in accordance to which each linguistic behavior is marked both stylistically and sociologically. Linguistic means abstracted from specific language behaviors are guidelines of stylistic and genre affinity of a text as well as social, pragmatic and genre competence of its creator.An illustration of this idea is the picture of the functioning of lexemes wojna (war) and wojneczka (diminutive of war). Their scope of meaning remains in conflict with respect to the connotation, association and lexicographical shots bundled with designatum of formative base, i.e. the lexeme war. Hence, the main aim of this article has been the question about the functioning of these lexemes in the culturally differential texts and about the scope of meaning depending on the social and functional conditions of use.The source of “unique” functioning of wojenka and wojneczka lexemes proved to be a folk song to be exact, where a large number of both diminutives results: first, from the fact that folk poetry is melic; secondly from typical for rural community point of view, according to which wojna, wojenka, wojneczka mean ‘a faraway place, a vague land’. A different scope of word meaning of the studied lexemes formed in legion songs from the First World War and some uprising songs. It allowed to talk about war with the same gentleness as about women and to emphasize the glorification of the specific kind of life and war deeds, as well as specific kind of joy and excitement in the fight for freedom of homeland, which was enslaved for 123 years.The custom of naming the hostilities wojenka or wojneczka and attributing to themslightly different meanings was recorded in the folk language but it has been gradually vanishing since the Second World War. Nowadays the word wojenka is used in a broader sense than given in dictionaries and refers not only to military conflict but to all types of conflicts, and very often gets ironic or humorous meaning. It is clear however, that the patterns of talking about a war which have achieved status of folkloreor mass, are up-to-date and they play a role of a cultural identifier.

The aim of the article is an attempt to define the term “glossary” in a new way. “Glossary” is codified as a dictionary explaining difficult, outdated, rarely used and unknown words in an old or foreign-language text, or words put at the end of scientific or popular science texts. In this, its prescriptive function is emphasized. In lexicographical compendia, the other definition is evoked. In accordance with it, the glossary is identified with a dictionary compiled for a translation machine. Observation of current language use has shown that there are a few other ways of understanding the term “glossary.” Its main function is now a descriptive function. For the sake of methodology, the article discusses the most common language behavior in this regard. Glossaries found in fantasy texts are characterized in detail because they fulfill a special role in the creation and perception of this type of literary work. The main idea in the article is the argument that every product of a culture (a text) carries a fixed cultural pattern here: a perpetuating pattern. A glossary has been identified as paratext, hence its description is put forth with the tools used in the field of text studies and linguistic enre.

The principles in the study of the triad: the language – custom – community Studies of the triad language – custom – community is a synthesis of two parallel research traditions: research centre of Łódź, which is known from studies of the custom – language relationship and research centre o Zielona Góra, famous from its studies on the communitylangugae relationship. In these studies, the starting point for all kinds of considerations are questions about language and the way it is used. Therefore, language is considered as a social tool, cultural storage, a certificate of civilizational changes, track of time and space. Custom and community, however, indicate the attitude of research and define the order of the auxiliary sciences within such language studies. It is very important to remember that one should speak about the custom both in community and individual sense every time when there is a repetition or imitation of the behavior and actions caused by identical communicative needs. That repetition and imitation manifests on all planes or layers of texts: from word formation, the phraseology and syntax, to the genre; it also addresses the functional behavior, fashions and stylistic treatments.
