Opis:: We obtain a method to compute effective first integrals by combining Noether's principle with the Kozlov-Kolesnikov integrability theorem. A sufficient condition for the integrability by quadratures of optimal control problems with controls taking values on open sets is obtained. We illustrate our approach on some problems taken from the literature. An alternative proof of the integrability of the sub-Riemannian nilpotent Lie group of type (2,3,5) is also given.

Opis:: We use a computer algebra system to compute, in an efficient way, optimal control variational symmetries up to a gauge term. The symmetries are then used to obtain families of Noether's first integrals, possibly in the presence of nonconservative external forces. As an application, we obtain eight independent first integrals for a sub-Riemannian nilpotent problem (2,3,5,8).

Opis:: Clinical studies were carried out in the period of 2003-2008 at the Provincial Children’s Rehabilitation Hospital in Ameryka near Olsztyn (Poland). The study involved a group of children and youths exhibiting spinal deformity progression in idiopathic scoliosis (IS) of more than 5o per year according to the Cobb scale. Four hundred and fifty patients between 4 and 15 years of age were divided into three groups (n = 150). Group I received 2-hour and group II 9-hour treatment of Lateral Electrical Surface Stimulation (LESS), respectively, whereas group III (control) was treated only with corrective exercises for 30 minutes twice a day. LESS was performed as 24-month treatment with the use of a battery-operated SCOL-2 stimulator manufactured by Elmech, Warsaw, Poland. The effectiveness of this method was confirmed in the treatment of spinal IS in children and adolescent patients, especially when the initial spinal deformity does not exceed 20o according to the Cobb scale. A short-duration electrostimulation – 2 hours daily – was found to produce results similar to those obtained after overnight, 9-hour electrostimulation. Moreover, the analysis of the Harrington prognostic index F confirms the positive effect of LESS in both groups of patients (2 h and 9 h of LESS).
Badania kliniczne prowadzono w latach 2003-2008, w Wojewódzkim Szpitalu Rehabilitacyjnym dla Dzieci w Ameryce k. Olsztyna, w grupie dzieci i młodzieży wykazującej progresję skrzywienia w skoliozie idiopatycznej (SI) powyżej 5O wg Cobba w skali rocznej. Badaniami objęto 450 pacjentów, w wieku od 4 do 15 lat, podzielonych na 3 grupy (n = 150). W grupie I stosowano 2-godzinną terapię metodą Bocznej Elektrycznej Powierzchniowej Elektrostymulacji (Lateral Electrical Surface Electrostimulation – LESS), w grupie II – 9-godzinną, a w grupie III (kontrolnej) – tylko leczenie za pomocą ćwiczeń korekcyjnych wykonywanych 2 razy po 30 min dziennie. Elektrostymulację typu LESS stosowano, w 24-miesięcznym leczeniu za pomocą bateryjnego stymulatora SCOL-2, wytwarzanego w zakładach elektromechaniki medycznej Elmech w Warszawie. Efektywność tej metody oceniano podczas leczenia SI kręgosłupa u dzieci i młodzieży, zwłaszcza w przypadkach, gdy początkowe skrzywienie kręgosłupa nie przekraczało 20o wg metody Cobba. Elektrostymulacja LESS skrócona do 2-godzinnej terapii dziennie wywoływała podobnie korzystne rezultaty do osiąganych podczas elektrostymulacji całonocnej – 9-godzinnej. Także wykonana analiza współczynnika prognostycznego F Harringtona potwierdziła pozytywne efekty oddziaływania metody LESS w obydwu grupach pacjentów (I i II).

Opis:: In this paper, a cooperative robot-robot approach to construct metallic structures is presented. In order to develop this task, a visual-force control system is proposed. The visual information is composed of an eye-in-hand camera, and a time of flight 3D camera. Both robots are equipped by a force sensor at the end-effector. In order to allow a human cooperate with both robots, an inertial motion capture system and an indoor localization system are em ployed. This multisensorial approach allows the robots to cooperatively construct the metallic structure in a flexible way and sharing the workspace with a human operator.

Opis:: We report on the resonant detection of a 3.1 THz radiation produced by a quantum cascade laser using a 250 nm gate length GaAs/AlGaAs field effect transistor at liquid nitrogen temperature. We show that the physical mechanism of the detection is related to the plasma waves excited in the transistor channel. The detection is enhanced by increasing the drain current and driving the transistor into saturation regime. These results clearly show that plasma wave nanometer-size transistors can be used as detectors in all-solid-state terahertz systems where quantum cascade lasers act as sources.

Opis:: The feasibility of substituting the types of wood usually employed in the making of guitars and violins was analyzed, but without comparing the properties of involved materials as it is often reported; in this work, the vibrational behavior of twelve guitars and three violins built with alternative types of woods was compared to data of classical instruments available in the literature. In the guitars here measured, the back plate and ribs were not made from traditional woods; while in the violins, only the top plate was made from an alternative type of wood. The results showed that changing the wood of back plate and ribs does not radically affect the typical mobility of a guitar; however, the expected mobility for a violin was not clearly obtained substituting the wood of the top plate. Thus it seems feasible to substitute the wood of back plate and ribs in guitars without causing dramatic changes in their performance; in contrast, a change of the wood type for top plate in violins seems inadvisable unless the design of the top plate is modified to compensate the differences between the woods.

Opis:: The Movable Scaffolding System (MSS) is a heavy construction equipment used for casting situ of concrete bridge decks. In the past decades, MSSs have become increasingly complex and industrialized, enlarging its span ranges, incorporating auxiliary elevation machinery and increasing productivity. The tendency nowadays is for strong reutilization and the notion of MSS as a disposable or temporary structure is somehow reductive. The main structure of MSSs may be potentially exposed to fatigue, usually characterized by low number of cycles with significant stress amplitude. Fatigue may be prevented through adequate design; judicious selection of materials; demanding quality control and implementation of robust inspection and maintenance plans.
System ruchomych rusztowań – Movable Scaffolding System (MSS) to ciężki konstrukcja budowlana wspomagająca wykonanie betonowych mostów. W ostatnich dekadach MSS stały się coraz bardziej skomplikowane i uniwersalne, stanowią element nośny dla wielu urządzeń zarówno podczas wykonywania mostu jak i podczas eksploatacji. Główna struktura systemów MSS może być narażona na efekt zmęczenia, obiążenia zwykle charakteryzują się niską liczbą cykli o znacznej amplitudzie naprężeń. Zmęczeniu można zapobiec poprzez odpowiedni projekt i rozsądny dobór materiałów. Jest to konstrukcja wymagająca ścisłej kontroli jakości i wdrożenia solidnych planów inspekcji i konserwacji.
