In Poland, rabbit is a highly valued animal, due to dietetic and flavour values of its meat, but above all, rabbits tend to be commonly used laboratory animals. The aim of the study was developing standards for counts of B-cells with CD19+ receptor, T-cells with CD5+ receptor, and their subpopulations, namely T-cells with CD4+, CD8+ and CD25+ receptor in the peripheral blood of mixed-breed Polish rabbits with addition of blood of meet breeds, including the assessment of the impact of four seasons of the year and animal sex on the values of the immunological parameters determined. The results showed that the counts of B- and T-cells and their subpopulations in peripheral blood remain within the following ranges: for CD19+ B-cells: 1.05 - 3.05%, for CD5+ T-cells: 34.00 - 43.07%, CD4+ T-cells: 23.52 - 33.23%, CD8+ T-cells: 12.55 - 17.30%, whereas for CD25+ T-cells: 0.72 - 2.81%. As it comes to the season of the year, it was observed that it principally affects the values of CD25+ T-cells, while in the case of rabbit sex, more changes were found in females.

The bulk ($Tl_{0.5}Pb_{0.5})Sr_2(Ca_{1 - x}Gd_{x})Cu_2O_{z}$ superconductors with x = 0.1, 0.2 and 0.3 have unique and very interesting magnetic and electrical properties. In this paper we focused our attention on the superconductor with gadolinium content x = 0.2. We measured the magnetic field dependences of the transport critical currents, the microwave absorption as well as the magnetization for different temperatures. The critical temperature of this sample is $T_c$ = 105.3 ± 0.2 K and the transition width Δ $T_{90% - 10%}$ = 3.6 ± 0.2 K. The critical current of this superconductor is $J_c$ = 1 820 ± 10 A/$cm^2$ at 77 K. The data were analyzed within the frame of the Bean and Kim models as well as the percolation model.

lt was studied the effects of diets supplemented with soybean oil and mackerel oil administered by gastric intubation either separately or in combination (18.5:5; 8:15.5; 3:20.5 v/v) in the amount of 0.5 ml/day for 5 weeks on the content of free and protein-bound malondialdehyde (MDA) in rat tissues. The quantity of free and bound MDA was measured by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) in the liver, kidney and brain tissue and by spectrophotometry in the heart and Jung tissue. Apart from the influence of dietary fats on MDA generation, the effect of benzo-{a) pyrene administered in the diet was investigated. The study demonstrated that changes in MDA concentrations were related to the kind of dietary fat, i.e. the content of fatty acids characteristic of particular fat. Serum CI-tocopherol levels declined with the increased amounts of dietary polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUF A), thereby suggesting enhanced demand for vitamin E with increased PUF A consumption.

The effects of intragastrically-administered plant oils (soybean oil, evening primrose oil, fish oils: cod liver oil, shark liver oil and their mixture 8/15.5 v/v) on the content of free and protein-bound malondialdehyde (MDA), and vitamin E in the liver and kidney homogenates of standard diet-fed rats were investigated. The changes in the MDA content were found to be associated with the type and amount of dietary polyunsaturated fatty acids and the vitamin E concentrations in diet and oils. The highest increase in the MDA concentrations in the body organs was observed in rats given evening primrose oil. Since this effect could have hardly been due to lipid peroxidation because of vitamin E efficacy as antioxidant, the eicosanoids pathway was suggested to be responsible for the increased level of MDA in the body organs.
Badano wpływ diet wzbogaconych olejami: sojowym, wiesiołkowym, rybnym (z wątroby dorsza — Omega-3; z wątroby rekina — Ecorner) oraz mieszaninami olejów: z dorsza z wiesiołkowym (15,5:8 obj/obj) podawanymi sondą dożołądkową po 0,4 cm3 przez 6 tygodni, na zawartość aldehydu malonowego (MDA) wolnego i związanego z białkami w wątrobie i nerkach szczurów. Stwierdzono, że zmiany w zawartości MDA były zależne od rodzaju i ilości tłuszczu w diecie, jak również od stężenia witaminy E w paszy i olejach. Wskazuje to, że dostarczenie witaminy E w ilościach pokrywających zapotrzebowanie organizmu jest w stanie zapewnić efektywną obronę przed rozwijaniem się procesów peroksydacyjnych. Relatywnie najwyższy wzrost stężenia MDA w homogenatach wątroby i nerek szczurów otrzymujących w diecie olej wiesiołka był prawdopodobnie spowodowany wzmożoną syntezą eikozanoidów, dla których powstający w organizmie kwas arachidonowy jest substratem.

We present theoretical band structure calculations and ultraviolet electron photoemission spectroscopy of a topological insulator $Bi_{1.96}Mg_{0.04}Se_3$. Our calculations were based on the first-principles density functional theory with general gradient approximation using Wien2k package with the spin-orbit interaction included by a second-variation method. The R3̅m crystal structure was optimized. In consequence, 4% decrease of volume and 3% decrease of ratio c/a was obtained. This modified structure was multiplied three times in a and b direction in order to place proper amount of Mg. Final crystal structure P3m1 with 135 atoms was used for the calculations. As a result metallic band structure was obtained with conduction band extended from -5.6 eV up to 0.16 eV. It composes mostly from Se p states. Comparison of total DOS with ultraviolet photoemission spectrum shows similar features.

We present the theoretical study of electronic and magnetic properties in a manganese perovskite $La_{2//3}Pb_{1//3}MnO_3$. The calculations were carried out in frame of the first-principles density functional theory with the general gradient approximation using the WIEN 2K package. The P3c1 crystal structure was taken from the detailed X-ray diffraction data for the perovskite. The exact exchange energy was utilized for Mn d electrons. Density of states was determined by the modified tetrahedron method. As a result we get a valence band for the spin up and down density of states with the gap for the latter of 1.85 eV. We noticed that conduction band is mainly dominated by d spin up manganese electrons and $Mn (d_{xz}, d_{yz})$ states have twice larger contribution than $(d_{x^2 - y^2}, d_{xy})$. We attribute this to $Mn-O_6$ octahedral tilting. From the same reason $d_{3z^2 - r^2}$ state has no contribution to the density of states at the Fermi energy $(E_{F})$. Comparison of total density of states with the ultraviolet photoemission spectroscopy measurements shows similar features especially as far as the lead spectral intensity from the 6s electrons at about - 10 eV is concerned. The calculated total magnetic moment per formula unit is 3.66 $μ_{B}$, the measured one 3.48 $μ_{B}$/f.u.

We present calculations of the electronic band structures of $La_{2/3}Pb_{1/3}Mn_{2/3}(Fe,Co,Ni)_{1/3}O_{3}$ colossal magneto-resistance manganites. The calculations are based on first-principles density functional theory with general gradient approximation GGA+U using WIEN2k package. The calculations show that electronic structures of these compounds consist mainly of Mn 3d, O 2p, and (Fe,Co,Ni) 3d states, which are hybridized over whole valence bands. Substitution Mn ion by Fe, Co, or Ni ions reduces the Mn and O contributions to the valence bands and weakens the double exchange interaction. The results are in good agreement with available experimental data.

In the paper we studied haematologic values,such as haemoglobin concentration, haematocrit value, thrombocytes, leucocytes: lymphocytes, neutrophils, basophils, eosinophils and monocytes in the pheral blood in Polish mixed-breeds with addition of meat breed blood in order to obtain the reference values which are until now not available for this animals. In studying this indices we took into consideration the impact of the season (spring, summer, autumn, winter), and sex of the animals. The studies have shown a high impact of the season of the year on those rabbits, but only in spring and summer. Moreover we observed that the sex has mean impact on the studied values of haematological parameters in those rabbits. According to our knowledge, this is the first paper on haematologic values in this widely used group of rabbits, so they may serve as reference values.

We report on magnetization and magnetic hysteresis measurements for the (Tl$\text{}_{0.6}$Bi$\text{}_{0.5}$)(Sr$\text{}_{0.9}$Ba$\text{}_{0.1}$)$\text{}_{2}$Ca$\text{}_{2}$Cu$\text{}_{3}$O$\text{}_{y}$ Ag-sheathed superconducting tape as well as for the powdered and bulk (Tl$\text{}_{0.6}$Pb$\text{}_{0.5}$)(Sr$\text{}_{0.9}$Ba$\text{}_{0.1}$)$\text{}_{2}$Ca$\text{}_{2}$Cu$\text{}_{3}$O$\text{}_{y}$ superconductors. For the investigated tape and bulk specimens the low field magnetization showed a deviation from the ideal linear M(H) dependence, which was attributed to the superposition of inter- and intragrain superconducting currents. Fitting of the theoretical magnetization curves to the experimental data allowed for the independent determination of the intragrain critical current densities for the superconducting grains and intergrain critical current densities for the weak link system at 77K.

Mixed-breed rabbits in Poland are widely used for diagnostic and scientific research and as utility animals, therefore there is a need to know their immunological status, as well as their haematological status. In this study natural immunity factors were analyzed in Polish mixed-breed rabbits and Polish mixed-breed rabbits with addition of blood of meet-breed, considering the impact of sex and season of the year (spring, summer, autumn, winter) using measurement of non-specific cellular and humoral immunity parameters in peripheral blood. The study has revealed that there is a variety between the two commonly used mixed-breed types of rabbits, especially when sex and season is concerned, which is crucial for using these animals in experiments.

Dokonano oceny sposobu żywienia osób starszych (46 kobiet i 40. mężczyzn) z chorobami sercowo-naczyniowymi. Zastosowano metodę wywiadu o spożyciu z ostatnich 24. godzin poprzedzających badanie. Ankiety sporządzano w okresie od lutego 2006r. do maja 2006r. Uzyskane wyniki wykazały, że żywienie badanej grupy odbiegało od zasad racjonalnego żywienia. Cechował je zbyt duży udział procentowy energii pochodzącej z tłuszczu i węglowodanów. Stwierdzono ponadto brak wypełnienia poziomu bezpiecznego spożycia na większość składników mineralnych; jedynie fosfor był dostarczany w nadmiarze. Analiza diet badanych osób starszych wykazała przekroczenie bezpiecznego poziomu spożycia na witaminy A, B12, a także w niewielkim stopniu na witaminę C. Wskazano na duże niedobory witaminy D i folianów. Uzyskane wyniki wskazują na nieprawidłowości w stosowaniu suplementacji. Zwłaszcza wystąpiło nadużywanie preparatów zawierających witaminy: A, E, C i B. Jednocześnie nie przywiązywano znaczenia do uzupełniania niedoborów związanych ze składnikami mineralnymi.
Dietary habits of elderly people (46 women and 46 men) with cardiovascular diseases were analysed. The study was based on the 24-h food intake recall. Data were collected from each respondent only once from February 2006 to May 2006. The results show that dietary intakes of elderly people differed from recommended optium diet. The percentage of energy coming from fats and carbohydrates was too high. We observed excessive intake of phosphorus among investigated people but intake of other minerals there was not sufficient. Analysis of average day rations showed, that safe level of vitamins A, B12 and a bit of vitamin C was exceeded. We observed vitamin D and folates deficiencies. Supplementation of diet was incorrect. Respondents abused supplements containing vitamins: A, E, C and B. People investigated did not attach importance to mineral deficiency supplementation.
