    Ewald Palmetshofer is an Austrian dramatist of the younger generation (born in 1978) who has recently been gaining more and more recognition from both the audience and critics, in Austria as well as in Germany. In his play hamlet is dead. no gravity (which had its world premiere in 2007 at the Schauspielhaus Vienna) he tries to dissect a modern family life on the brink of collapse. Palmetshofer’s characters are struggling in a world without God, in which heaven is only a “machine” and traditional values such as love, mutual trust and respecting your elders are being forgotten. These are being replaced by antagonism, frustration and egoism. This article is an attempt to analyze the play.

    The aim of this paper was to evaluate the influence of anthropogenic pollution on the water quality of the Ciemięga River, which flows through the Jastków commune, located in the Lublin Province in the South-Eastern Poland. The analyses of the river water were conducted in the years 2019–2020. Each year, the samples for physicochemical analyses were collected seasonally (in February, May, August and November) from the seven selected Ciemięga River sampling points found in the following localities: Ożarów, Moszenki, Sieprawice, Jastków, Snopków and Jakubowice Konińskie. In addition, 3 series of microbiological analysis were conducted in 2020. Electrolytic conductivity, total phosphorus, nitrate-nitrogen and sulfates constituted the physicochemical indicators of poor water quality in the river. Their average values exceeded the standards for the 2nd class of water quality. High concentration of these indicators, especially of the total phosphorus, could have been related to the influx of domestic wastewater from agricultural holdings, wastewater flows from agricultural areas as well as soil erosion and leaching. The levels of E. coli bacteria and fecal coliform allocated the Ciemięga River waters to the 4th class of water quality and could result from domestic wastewater flow to the river. In order to improve the water quality of the Ciemięga River, it is necessary to reduce or eliminate point and non-point sources of pollution by means of streamlining of the agricultural areas fertilization, regulating the water and wastewater management, regulating of the waste management, as well as the appropriate spatial policy and landscaping of the water catchment areas.

    Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease produces symptoms mainly in adulthood. Renal cysts and/or elevated blood pressure can be the first signs of the disease in children. Because of the lack of a targeted therapy, early diagnosis and implementation of actions to slow its progression are the essence of treatment. Aim: The aim of the study was to assess the clinical course of autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease in children. Material and methods: The study involved the assessment of 28 patients with autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease diagnosed before the age of 18. The disease was diagnosed during a routine abdominal ultrasound scan in 24 patients and during a scan conducted due to abdominal pain reported by patients in 4 cases. Two patients had the disease diagnosed based on the Ravine criteria, whereas an ultrasound image and family history helped establish the diagnosis in 26 cases. The children enrolled had blood pressure measured, serum creatinine concentration determined and general urinalysis performed. Results: The median age at the diagnosis was 5 years. The family history was positive in 89.3% (25) of patients. Siblings had the disease in 46.43% (13) of cases. None of the children presented with abnormalities in urinalysis or creatinine levels. Two patients were diagnosed with arterial hypertension and in 1 child blood pressure was elevated above the 97th percentile. Urine albumin-to-creatinine ratio exceeding 30 mg/g was observed in 20.8% of children. Conclusions: Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease in children is asymptomatic. There are no irregularities either in urinalysis or renal function parameters. An abdominal ultrasound examination, which is inexpensive and non-invasive, is worth considering in all children of parents with autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease in order to implement early nephroprotection.
    Wielotorbielowatość nerek dziedziczona autosomalnie dominująco daje objawy kliniczne głównie w wieku dorosłym. U dzieci pierwszymi oznakami choroby mogą być obecność torbieli w nerkach i/lub podwyższone ciśnienie tętnicze krwi. Istotą leczenia, ze względu na brak terapii celowanej, jest wczesne wykrycie choroby i wdrożenie działań, które ją spowolnią. Cel pracy: Celem pracy była ocena przebiegu klinicznego autosomalnie dominującej wielotorbielowatości nerek u dzieci. Materiał i metody: Badaniem objęto 28 osób, u których wielotorbielowatość nerek dziedziczoną autosomalnie dominująco rozpoznano poniżej 18. roku życia. U 24 chorobę zdiagnozowano w trakcie rutynowego badania ultrasonograficznego jamy brzusznej, natomiast u 4 na podstawie badania wykonanego z powodu zgłaszanych dolegliwości bólowych brzucha. U 2 osób wielotorbielowatość nerek dziedziczoną autosomalnie dominująco rozpoznano na podstawie kryteriów Ravine’a, a u 26 na podstawie obrazu ultrasonograficznego i wywiadu rodzinnego. U badanych dzieci zmierzono ciśnienie tętnicze, oznaczono stężenie kreatyniny w surowicy oraz wykonano ogólną analizę moczu. Wyniki: Mediana wieku, w którym rozpoznano chorobę, wyniosła 5 lat, wywiad rodzinny był dodatni u 89,3% (25) osób, rodzeństwo chorowało w przypadku 46,43% (13) pacjentów. U żadnego dziecka nie stwierdzono odchyleń w badaniu ogólnym moczu ani w stężeniu kreatyniny. U 2 osób zdiagnozowano nadciśnienie tętnicze, a 1 miała podwyższone wartości ciśnienia tętniczego powyżej 97. centyla. U 20,8% dzieci stwierdzono stosunek stężenia albumin do stężenia kreatyniny w moczu powyżej 30 mg/g. Wnioski: Wielotorbielowatość nerek dziedziczona autosomalnie dominująco w dzieciństwie przebiega bezobjawowo, nie stwierdza się również odchyleń w badaniu ogólnym moczu ani w funkcji nerek. Badanie ultrasonograficzne jamy brzusznej, które jest tanie i nieinwazyjne, warto wykonywać u wszystkich dzieci rodziców z wielotorbielowatością nerek dziedziczoną autosomalnie dominująco w celu wczesnego wdrożenia nefroprotekcji.

He perceives this work as a reckoning with Germany’s national so-cialist past. Through the prism of three generations of the Heising family, Mayenburg exposes the mechanisms at work in the creation of a family legend (“we are decent people; we were never Nazis; we helped the Jewish people”), which turns out to be merely a product of distortion and misrepresentation of historical truth, and an attempt to avert the blame.

    WSTĘP: Autosomalna dominująca wielotorbielowatość nerek (ADPKD – autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease) to najczęstsza z dziedziczonych monogenowo chorób nerek. Stanowi przyczynę schyłkowej niewydolności nerek u 5–10% dorosłych leczonych nerkozastępczo. Dawniej uważana była za chorobę ludzi dorosłych, lecz od czasu upowszechnienia badań ultrasonograficznych zaczęto obserwować jej występowanie także u dzieci. MATERIAŁ I METODY: Grupę badaną stanowiło 19 pacjentów z prawidłową czynnością nerek (w wieku 1,8–18,8 roku w trakcie kontroli, 12 dziewczynek, 7 chłopców) chorujących na ADPKD. Spośród pacjentów 15 spełniało ultrasonograficzne kryteria rozpoznania choroby, a 4 nie spełniało kryteriów, przy czym były to dzieci z dodatnim wywiadem rodzinnym w kierunku ADPKD, a w USG stwierdzono minimum 2 torbiele. Całkowita objętość nerek (TKV), określona jako suma objętości obu nerek, została odniesiona do powierzchni ciała pacjenta (TKV/BSA). Dzieci badane były średnio co 12 miesięcy. WYNIKI: W badanej grupie stwierdzono istotny statystycznie roczny przyrost całkowitej objętości nerek (w 2015 r. 296,71 ± 178,67 cm3 vs. 350,38 ± 195,86 cm3 w 2016 r.; p = 0,019) oraz także TKV w odniesieniu do powierzchni ciała (w 2015 r. 191,23 ± 86,29 cm3/m2 vs. 221,15 ± 96,99 cm3/m2 w 2016 r.; p = 0,037). Nie uwidoczniono różnic w tempie przyrost całkowitej objętości nerek w zależności od płci (dziewczynki 32,45 ± 51,88 cm3/m2/rok vs. chłopcy 25,56 ± 71,00 cm3/m2/rok; p = 0,81) oraz ze względu na zaawansowanie choroby, ocenianej jako liczba stwierdzonych w badaniu ultrasonograficznym torbieli w obrębie nerek (< 5 torbieli 30,77 ± 61,6 cm3/m2/rok vs. ≥ 5 torbieli 29,41 ± 58,22 cm3/m2/rok; p = 0,96). WNIOSKI: U dzieci i młodych dorosłych z ADPKD można zaobserwować zwiększenie względnej całkowitej objętości nerek (w odniesieniu do BSA) już w trakcie 12-miesięcznej obserwacji.
    INTRODUCTION: Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) is the most common type of monogenic kidney disease. It is the cause of ESRD in 5–10% of adult patients who undergo renal replacement therapy. Owing to the increasing use of ultrasonography, occurrence of the disease has been observed among children. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The research group consisted of 19 patients with normal kidney function (12 girls and 7 boys aged 1.8–18.8 at the moment of examination) who suffered from ADPKD. 15 patients met the ultrasonographic criteria of the diagnosis. Although the remaining 4 patients did not meet the criteria, they had a strong family history of ADPKD and underwent USG which revealed at least 2 cysts. For each patient, the Total Kidney Volume (TKV), defined as the sum volume of both kidneys, was juxtaposed with BSA. The children underwent the examination approximately every 12 months. RESULTS: The members of the research group manifested a statistically significant annual increase in TKV (in 2015, 296.71 ± 178.67 cm3 versus 350.38 ± 195.86 cm3 in 2016, p = 0.019), as well as TKV in relation to body surface (in 2015, 191.23 ± 86.29 cm3/m2 versus 221.15 ± 96.99 cm3/m2 in 2016, p = 0.037). There were no apparent differences in the rate of total TKV increase which would depend either on the patient's gender (girls 32.45 ± 51.88 cm3/m2/year versus boys 25.56 ± 71.00 cm3/m2/year, p = 0.81), or on the number of renal cysts revealed by USG (< 5 cysts 30.77 ± 61.6 cm3/m2/year versus ≥ 5 cysts 29.41 ± 58.22 cm3/m2/year, p = 0.96). CONCLUSION: In children and young adults with ADPKD, the increase in total kidney volume (in relation to BSA) can be observed after a 12-month observation.

    The work presented the assessment of household wastewater treatment plants with drainage systems on the quality of groundwater in dug wells and deep water wells in the area of 3 selected communes (Drelów, Dębowa Kłoda and Urszulin), located in the Lublin province in south-eastern Poland. The investigations of the physicochemical composition of water from selected 28 dug wells and 2 deep water wells were conducted from June to July 2020, involving 9 measurement series. The microbiological studies consisted in 4 measurement series. The composition of the wastewater from primary settling tanks discharged to soil via drainage systems located in the vicinity of considered wells was also examined on a single occasion. The studies indicate that the water from wells are significantly polluted with ammonia, nitrites, as well as compounds of natural origin: iron and manganese. The presence of microbiological pollution of fecal origin was noted. The studies clearly indicate the possible pollution of the analyzed well waters with domestic sewage discharged to soil via drainage systems. Therefore, it necessary to take the actions aimed at improving the quality of groundwater in the Lublin province, including limitation of drainage systems, especially in the areas with unfavorable subsurface and hydrological conditions as well as low water supply coverage. The need to introduce changes in legal regulations and strategies for the development of technical infrastructure in counties, favoring the most efficient, as well as simple and inexpensive technologies, was indicated.

Winckelmannowski imperatyw oglądania dzieł sztuki w świetle dziennym i z pewnej odległości oddaje pole koncepcji Herdera, który wprowadza w obszar estetyki zmysł dotyku i brak światła, i zaleca dotykanie rzeźb nocą, co ma uzmysłowić odbiorcy sztuki ich dosłowną i metaforyczną wielkość. Z kolei Moritz postuluje oglądanie rzeźb o zmierzchu, w ożywiającym je migotliwym świetle pochodni.
    In German aesthetics of the 18th century, reflections on light lead to the revision of rules regarding the perception of art. Winckelmann’s conception of viewing art in daylight and from a certain distance gives way to the theory of Herder, who introduces the sense of touch and lack of light into aesthetics and suggests that in order to fully understand them, sculptures should be touched at night. This will make the public aware of both their literal and metaphorical greatness. Moritz, in turn, postulates viewing sculptures at dusk, when they come to life in the flickering light of a burning torch.
