Opis:
For an environmental-friendly sustainable society, the global environmental problems should be solved. Here we outline our recent results of environment purification materials with smart functions. For the effective adsorbent for remediation process, zeolite coated with layered double hydroxide (LDH) was prepared by the precipitation of LDH on zeolite-LTA under hydrothermal treatment. This multifunctional material has a possible application for simultaneous uptake of harmful cations and anions, and minimizes environmental pollution during municipal and industrial water management. For novel material for the nuclear waste management, zeolite with hydroxyapatite layers on its surface was obtained by a hydrothermal method on the basis of the cation exchange of Ca2+ in zeolite for NH4+ in solution. The novel nanocomposite is an ideal material for adsorbing and fixing radioactive elements for geological time-scale.

Opis:
Automatic identification system (AIS) data are used to analyze vessels’ positions or maritime traffic. Recently, satellites are being adopted for gathering AIS data (satellite AIS). A satellite AIS can gather AIS data from all over the world, including the center of the ocean. However, because a satellite moves around the world every day, there is a very short window of time that the satellite can receive signals from some specific area. Furthermore, because a satellite AIS receives signals simultaneously from a wider area than a terrestrial AIS does, the satellite AIS has lower rate of signal reception, especially near vessel congested areas. This may cause many unrecognized vessels. For this situation, this paper proposes a new method to estimate the number of unrecognized vessels based on a binomial distribution model. With this method, we are able to estimate the number of unrecognized vessels just from satellite AIS data themselves.

Opis:
The formation and stabilization of reduced silver species in the regularly interstratified clay minerals, trioctahedral smectite/chlorite (tri-Sm/Ch) and dioctahedral smectite/mica (di-Sm/M), have been studied by electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy. Both minerals loaded with Ag+ cations after degassing and dehydration were g-irradiated at 77 K and monitored by EPR as the temperature increased. Some samples were exposed to water or methanol vapor after dehydration. In both hydrated and dehydrated samples only the doublets assigned to Ag0 atoms were observed with no evidence of the formation of Ag clusters. However, the EPR parameters of silver atoms in both matrices are different. In tri-Sm/Ch the narrow anisotropic EPR lines overlap with the broader isotropic lines, whereas in di-Sm/M only broad lines are recorded. The hyperfine splitting - Aiso(Ag0) is larger in tri-Sm/Ch than in di-Sm/M. Also the stability of Ag0 in both clay minerals is distinctly different. Ag0 doublet in di-Sm/M disappears completely above 230 K, whereas in tri-Sm/Ch it is still recorded at 310 K. It is proposed, basing on the EPR results that Ag0 atoms appear at different sites in both matrices: - in tri-Sm/Ch in the middle of smectite interlayer and in hexagonal cavities in the silicate sheets of tetrahedron layer and in di-Sm/M in hexagonal cavities only. When samples had been exposed to methanol before irradiation, the silver clusters become stabilized in the interlayer sites. In tri- Sm/Ch matrix the silver dimer Ag2+ formed by g-irradiation at 77 K is transformed to tetrameric cluster, Ag43+ at 150 K. In di-Sm/M the radiation-induced silver agglomeration proceeds in a similar way, but with a slower rate and Ag tetramer is formed only above 190 K. In both clay minerals, Ag43+ clusters decay above 250 K.

Opis:
In this paper we propose a revised Decision Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL), called stochastic DEMATEL, to extract structural model of a complex problematique and to represent the priority of each factor taking into account the uncertainty of structure. In the stochastic DEMATEL, the uncertainty of structure is expressed as a stochastic model. From numerical experiments and experimental analyses, the following results are obtained: when the structure is uncertain, stochastic DEMATEL could extract the features of structure by the degree of dispatching influences and the degree of central role; stochastic composite importance could express the uncertainty of priority and decide the priority taking into account the attitude of the decision maker; pessimistic, neutral or optimistic.

Opis:
In this paper we try to extract consumers' uneasy factors on foods such as carcinogenic substance, bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) problem, genetic recombination, etc., and try to construct structural models among these uneasy factors using stochastic DEMATEL. Stochastic DEMATEL is developed as a revised DEMATEL (Decision Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory) to extract structural models of a complex problematique composed of many factors under uncertainty. For structural modeling of uneasy factors on foods we look at the binary relation such that "How much would it help to dissolve uneasy factor j by dissolving uneasy factor i?" Finally, we try to find the priority of dissolving each factor among all the uneasy factors based on the information of stochastic composite importance. This would contribute for decision support to dissolve uneasy feeling and to get sense of security on foods.

Opis:
Slow dynamics of the initially photoinduced state has been observed by the pump-probe type time-resolved reflection spectroscopy in the charge separated phase of the half-filled strong dimer system, $Et_2Me_2Sb[Pd(dmit)_2]_2$ (dmit = 1,3-dithiol-2-thione-4,5-dithiolate). We have succeeded to reproduce the probe photon energy dependence of the time profile qualitatively in the time delay range from 10 ps to 1 ns assuming the dynamical expansion of the domain of the photo-induced dimer-Mott insulating phase in the host charge-separated one.

Opis:
Japanese diving fishermen are known to have a high prevalence of dysbaric osteonecrosis. Their typical dive practices are characterized by long exposure to high pressure and by repetitive diving. The etiology of dysbaric osteonecrosis still remains controversial. Because the development of dysbaric osteonecrosis may occur silently, the diver may be unaware of the actual ischemic event. Moreover, key etiologic evidence is often lost before the diver is examined. The early stage of dysbaric osteonecrosis was evaluated in four autopsy cases of divers who died of acute decompression sikness. Hypercoagulability of blood was present in these cases. Hypercoagulability of blood has also been observed in experimental rats after decompression. Dysbaric osteonecrosis has been experimentally induced in six sheep at the University of Wisconsin - Madison. These findings are reviewed by comparing dysbaric osteonecrosis in both divers and experimental animals. In conclusion, a bone compartment syndrome and hypercoagulability appear to be pathogenetic factors in dysbaric osteonecrosis.
