Opis:
The sole purpose of air accident investigations should be the prevention of accidents and other incidents in the future, without apportioning blame or liability. A civil aviation safety system is based on feedback and lessons learned from accidents and incidents, while requiring the strict application of rules on confidentiality in order to ensure the availability of valuable sources of information in the future. Therefore, related data, especially sensitive safety information, should be protected in an appropriate manner. Information provided by an individual in the framework of a safety investigation should not be used against them, in full respect of constitutional principles, and national and international law. Each “involved person” who knows about an accident or serious incident should promptly notify the competent state authority for carrying out an investigation of the event. “Involved person” refers to one of the following: the owner; a member of the crew; the operator of the aircraft involved in an accident or serious incident; any person involved in the maintenance, design, manufacture of that aircraft or in the training of its crew; any person involved in air traffic control, providing flight information or providing airport services, which provided services for the aircraft concerned; staff of the national civil aviation authority; or staff of the European Aviation Safety Agency. In terms of the protection level of the organization (employer), employees who report an event or submit an application to the investigation cannot bear any prejudice from their employer because of information provided by the applicant. The protection does not cover (exclusions): infringement with wilful misconduct (direct intent, recklessness infringement); infringement committed by a clear and serious disregard of the obvious risks; and serious professional negligence, i.e., the failure to provide unquestionably duty of care required under the circumstances, causing possible or actual damage to persons or property leading the level of aviation safety being seriously compromised. All employees in the aviation sector, regardless of their function, have safety-related duties and are therefore critical to the security of the entire civil aviation system. The safety of this system requires that any event that has or may have an impact on security in aviation should be reported voluntarily and without delay, because it is necessary to conduct an appropriate investigation in order to increase the level of safety. “Just Culture” is the basic premise for the effective functioning of the reporting of events required for all aviation organizations in order to maintain and raise the safety level. As safety management is based on precise data, it is necessary to introduce appropriate procedures, which allow for obtaining information not only about the events that have already occurred, but also about any other events that could potentially cause hazardous conditions. All the procedures and rules of operation relating to the policy of Just Culture should be constructed so that they not only comply with the provisions of applicable law, but are also rational and understandable by all stakeholders, as well as provide certain comfort and confidentiality to persons reporting events that affect airline safety. Changes in the existing legal system should be established in cooperation with all concerned institutions: law enforcement, including the courts and public prosecution, aviation insurers, the Aircraft Accident Investigation Commission and other entities. Is it possible to reconcile the interests of the so-called culture of aviation safety, i.e., Just Culture, with the requirements of the above-mentioned institutions and traders involved in the implementation of air transport and the exploration of the effects of aerial surveys? The answers to this and similar questions will be widely presented in this article.

Opis:
Fieldwork in the early Late Jurassic (Oxfordian) Qigu Formation of the Junggar Basin in Northwest China (Xinjiang Autonomous Region) produced teeth and mandibular fragments of a new docodont. The new taxon has a large “pseudotalonid” on the lower molars, and by retention of crest b−g exhibits closer affinities to Simpsonodon and Krusatodon from the Middle Jurassic of Europe than to the other known Asian docodonts Tashkumyrodon, Tegotherium, and Sibirotherium. It differs from the Haldanodon–Docodon−lineage by the “pseudotalonid” and large cusps b and g. A PAUP analysis based on lower molar characters produced a single most parsimonious tree with two main clades. One clade comprises Docodon, Haldanodon, and Borealestes, and the other Dsungarodon, Simpsonodon, and Krusatodon plus the Asian tegotheriids. Analysis of the molar occlusal relationships using epoxy casts mounted on a micromanipulator revealed a four−phase chewing cycle with transverse component. The molars of the new docodont exhibit a well developed grinding function besides cutting and shearing, probably indicating an omnivorous or even herbivorous diet. A grinding and crushing function is also present in the molars of Simpsonodon, Krusatodon, and the Asian tegotheriids, whereas Borealestes, Haldanodon, and Docodon retain the plesiomorphic molar pattern with mainly piercing and cutting function.

This review contains a brief history of the use of insecticides. The peculiarities, main advantages, and disadvantages of some modern insecticides are described. The names of the discoverers of some of the most popular insecticide preparations on the world market, are listed. The tendencies to find new insecticides to control the quantity of phytophagous insects are discussed. Special attention is paid to the perspective of creating preparations based on nucleic acids, in particular DNA insecticides. The use of insect-specific, short single-stranded DNA fragments as DNA insecticides, is paving the way in the field of “intellectual” insecticides that “think” before they act. It is worth noting, though, that in the near future, the quantity of produced insecticides will increase due to the challenges associated with food production for a rapidly growing population. It is concluded, that an agreeable interaction of scientists and manufacturers of insecticides should lead to the selection of the most optimal solutions for insect pest control, which would be safe, affordable, and effective at the same time.

As a result, accuracy improved and students were more engaged in redrafting. Amongst improvements noted were all the students started passing their final writing assessments. Screen casts have conventionally only been used for scaffolding instructions or content. As well as allowing greater autonomous learning and increasing peer learning, it is postulated this methodology actually reduces the teacher’s work load and is as efficient as audio or handwritten feedback.

Introduction and objective. Infections due to multidrug-resistant (MDR) Enterobacteriaceae are an ongoing global threat in their management. The aim of the study was to investigate the antiimicrobial resistance (AMR) and virulence gene profiles of MDR Gram-negative isolates in Sokoto, north-west Nigeria. Materials and method. A total of 578 clinical samples were collected from patients. Suspected Gram-negative bacteria were isolated from these clinical samples: vaginal swab, pus, stool, blood, wound swab and urine, using Gram-staining and conventional biochemical reactions. These isolates were further identified with an identification kit (Microgen-GN-A), and tested against a panel of 11 antibiotics. A single polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay targeting 13 virulence gene related to adhesion (fimH, papC, and sfaS), iron chelation (iutA, and fyuA), toxins (astA, stx1, stx2, and eaeA), biofilm (bssS), and serum resistance (traT, iss, and kapsMTII) encoding genes were evaluated. Results. A total of 276 Gram-negative isolates were identified using the Gram stain and biochemical reactions. These organisms were further confirmed with identification kit. Of the 276 isolates, 36 organisms of interest (23 Escherichia coli, 4 Klebsiella pneumoniae and 9 Proteus mirabilis) were identified. Other Gram-negative isolates accounted for the remaining 86.9%. The majority of the isolates were resistant to cefixime (100%) and partially resistant to amikacin (19.4%).The virulence genes bssS (58.3%), fimH (44.4%), and iutA (44.4%) were the most prevalent, whereas kapsMTII (5.6%) and stx2 (2.8%) were least detected, while astA was not detected in any of the isolates. Conclusion. The study elucidated the prevalence of antibiotic resistance and virulence genes in Gram-negative bacteria from clinical isolates in Sokoto, north-western Nigeria. The majority of the isolates were MDR, thereby posing a public health risk.

Opis:
Purified and crude proteases have been broadly applied to obtain hydrolysates from soy protein isolate (SPI) with the improved functional and biological properties. However, the use of fruit juices containing native proteases to produce SPI hydrolysates with better bioactivities receives less attention. The present study attempted to investigate the ability of papaya (Carica papaya) and cantaloupe (Cucumis melo) juices in the hydrolysis of SPI and assess the antioxidant, anti-tyrosinase, and wound-healing activities of obtained hydrolysates. Our analysis showed that SPI was hydrolysed by papaya juice, at the juice to substrate ratio of 2.5:2 (v/w), with a degree of hydrolysis (DH) of approximately 11% after 4 h of treatment at 55ºC. A higher DH (about 26%) was obtained by the hydrolysis with cantaloupe juice at the same juice to substrate ratio and treatment conditions. Papain used at the enzyme to substrate ratio of 0.625:2 (w/w) broke down SPI in a similar DH as papaya juice at the juice to substrate ratio of 2.5:2 (v/w). The ABTS•+-scavenging, OH-scavenging and tyrosinase inhibitory capacities of SPI were lower than those of hydrolysates obtained by the treatment with papaya juice (IC50 of 2.39, 7.17, and 32.07 μg/mL, respectively) and cantaloupe juice (IC50 of 2.46, 6.93, and 30.49 μg/mL, respectively). An enhancement in ABTS•+-scavenging, OH-scavenging and anti-tyrosinase activities was also observed in the hydrolysate obtained by papain (IC50 of 2.75, 17.85, and 117.80 μg/mL, respectively) compared to SPI. However, the increased level of the OH-scavenging capacity of the hydrolysate obtained by papain was lower than that of the fruit juice-treated samples. Remarkably, the hydrolysates prepared from the hydrolysis with fruit juices accelerated the wound closure in human fibroblasts by estimately 1.5 times after 24 h of treatment while this property was not observed in the hydrolysate by papain. Our study data suggest the potential of SPI hydrolysates obtained by papaya and cantaloupe juices in the preparation of healthy food products.

Opis:
The current investigation is the first report of utilization of Aspergillus brasiliensis for the decolorization of melanoidin in distillery effluent. The effluent generated from alcohol distilleries is one of the most complex wastewater with a high biological oxygen demand (BOD) and other organic, inorganic, and toxic constituents. The effluent contains melanoidin, a dark brown compound, which is difficult to remediate by using conventional technologies. The disposal of spent wash in the natural environment is hazardous and can deteriorate land and water resources. The decolorization of spent wash through physical and chemical methods remains unsuitable, and the only alternative to decolorize spent wash is biological treatment. In the current study, three fungal strains were isolated from the distillery waste and screened for their ability to decolorize melanoidin. The isolate RS2 exhibited maximum decolorization of 83% and was identified as Aspergillus brasiliensis. Its optimum growth temperature was 37EC, and the maximum efficiency was recorded after 120 h of incubation. Nutritional sources were investigated for the fungi showing the maximum decolorization of melanoidin, and starch and peptone were found to be the best carbon and nitrogen sources, respectively. At 1.5% starch concentration and 1.5% peptone concentration, the decolorization level attained was 87.45% and 88.74%, respectively. A. brasiliensis exhibited a high potential to decolorize melanoidin. The decolorization percentage was high, which makes this fungus a potential candidate for use at the industrial scale for the bioremediation of spent wash.

Closed-form 2D modeling of deep-submicron and sub-100 nm MOSFETs is explored using a conformal mapping technique where the 2D Poisson equation in the depletion regions is separated into a 1D long-channel case and a 2D Laplace equation. The 1D solution defines the boundary potential values for the Laplacian, which in turn provides a 2D correction of the channel potential. The model has been tested for classical MOSFETs with gate lengths in the range 200-250 nm, and for a super-steep retrograde MOSFET with a gate length of 70 nm. With a minimal parameter set, the present modeling reproduces both qualitatively and quantitatively the experimental data obtained for such devices.

The present study was carried out to investigate the compression loading behaviour of five Indian sunflower varieties (NIRMAL-196, NIRMAL-303, CO-2, KBSH-41, and PSH-996) under four different moisture levels (6-18% d.b). The initial cracking force, mean rupture force, and rupture energy were measured as a function of moisture content. The observed results showed that the initial cracking force decreased linearly with an increase in moisture content for all varieties. The mean rupture force also decreased linearly with an increase in moisture content. However, the rupture energy was found to be increasing linearly for seed and kernel with moisture content. NIRMAL-196 and PSH-996 had maximum and minimum values of all the attributes studied for both seed and kernel, respectively. The values of all the studied attributes were higher for seed than kernel of all the varieties at all moisture levels. There was a significant effect of moisture and variety on compression loading behaviour.
