Opis:
Objectives The aim of the study was to establish whether the driver’s visual strategy may influence a driver’s behavior to avoid a crash in a high-risk situation. Any published papers on drivers’ visual strategies just before a crash were not found. Material and Methods Tests were performed using a high-tech driving bus simulator. Participants comprised 45 men drivers, aged 43.5±7.9 years old, seniority as a bus driver of 13.3±8.6 years. The tests were preceded by medical examinations: general, neurological and ophthalmological. Each participant drove the same city route for approximately 40 min (entire route – ER). In the final phase, a collision situation was simulated (a phantom car blocked the participant’s right of way). Driver’s visual strategy was analyzed using the FaceLab device with 2 cameras during ER and just before collision. The field-of-view covered by camera 1 was divided into 8 regions, by camera 2 into 10 regions. The distribution of gazes in regions was a criterion of visual strategy. Results Thirty-five drivers completed the simulated driving test, 14 escaped the collision, 21 crashed. These groups differed only in resting systolic blood pressure before the test. The analysis of covariance, after adjusting to this factor, indicated that during the ER visual strategy recorded by camera 1 did not differ between groups, in camera 2 the drivers in the crash group fixed their gaze more frequently (p = 0.049) in region 3 (close part of the road in front of the windshield). Just before the collision drivers who escaped the collision fixed their gaze significantly more often in region 6 (left side of the road) in camera 1 and in region 6 (in front of the windshield,) and region 10 (right side) in camera 2. Conclusions The visual strategy has an impact on the road safety. The analysis of visual strategies may be a useful tool for the training of drivers. Int J Occup Med Environ Health. 2019;32(2):161–74

We have investigated the structure, and electric, optical, and magnetic properties of LaSr(Ca)MnO films containing atomic clusters of various types coherently built into the basic crystallographic matrix. Below the transition to the metallic state, the electrical conductivity of the films is determined by tunneling of charge carriers between metallic clusters. We have found that for each sample there exists a threshold value of magnetic ordering, above which the magnetic subsystem starts to affect actively the film conductivity. The observed increase of conductivity with decreasing temperature is caused by the fact that in the process of magnetic ordering of the samples the cluster size and concentration of metallic phase increase. Experimental results are in agreement with theoretical calculations.

We calculated the differential conductance G as the function of the bias voltage V across the tunnel junction between a normal metal or a conventional superconductor and an inhomogeneous superconductor with charge density waves. Spatial averaging over random domains with varying superconducting and normal state properties was carried out. For high-T$\text{}_{c}$ oxides, irregularly distorted charge density wave patterns with spatially scattered values of various parameters were earlier shown to manifest themselves in a great body of experimental data. The results of calculation were applied to explain the well-known dip-hump structure in the G(V) dependence for Bi$\text{}_{2}$Sr$\text{}_{2}$CaCu$\text{}_{2}$O$\text{}_{8+δ}$ and other cuprates.

Opis:
The paper contains results of a in situ research main task of which was to detect objects buried, partially or completely, in the sea bottom. Object detecting technologies employing acoustic wave sources based on nonlinear interaction of elastic waves require application of parametric sound sources. Detection of objects buried in the sea bottom with the use of classic hydroacoustic devices such as the sidescan sonar or multibeam echosounder proves ineffective. Wave frequencies used in such devices are generally larger than tens of kHz. This results in the fact that almost the whole acoustic energy is reflected from the bottom. On the other hand, parametric echosounders radiate waves with low frequency and narrow beam patterns which ensure high spatial resolution and allows to penetrate the sea bottom to depths of the order of tens of meters. This allows to detect objects that can be interesting, among other things, from archaeological or military point of view.

Searching for objects, especially small ones, moving under water near its the free surface, is always not an easy task. Designing tools for the detection of such targets is a real challenge when the possibility of a terrorist attack is a real threat. This paper presents some aspects of diver detection by means of acoustics methods, both active (side scan sonar) and passive ones (linear receiving antenna). This approach is quite effective because divers can use both breathing apparatus operating in the closed-loop (so-called rebreathers), and popular open-circuit breathing (exhalation of used air or a breathing gas mixture into the water).

Ellipsometric studies of NdMnO$\text{}_{3}$ single crystals of orthorhombic symmetry were carried out in the spectral range 0.5-5.0 eV. Experimental data, which were obtained on the (001)$\text{}_{pc}$-type planes of pseudo-cubic system, were analyzed in the model of biaxial crystal. For the first time, three componentsε$\text{}_{x}$,ε$\text{}_{y}$,ε$\text{}_{z}$ of the effective dielectric function for manganites of orthorhombic symmetry were determined. From ellipsometric data, the spectra of optical conductivity and loss function were also calculated and considered. The fine structure of the spectra and optical anisotropy was the basis for discussion of the microscopic origin of the optical transitions responsible for the optical features. The electronic excitations due to dipole-forbidden spin-allowed transitions of the d-d-type in Mn-ions, f-f-type in Nd-ions and charge-transfer 2p(O)-3d(Mn) transitions were taken into account. The data for NdMnO$\text{}_{3}$ were compared with those obtained for other related undoped and doped single crystals of perovskite-type structure, LaMnO$\text{}_{3}$, (LaBa)(MnCo)O$\text{}_{3}$ and (LaCa)CoO$\text{}_{3}$.

Opis:
The paper presents results of calibration and verification of the WetSpa model, which enables the modelling of rainfall-runoff process based on mass and energy balance in the soil-plantatmosphere system in the catchment. It is a model with distributed parameters, using the structure of raster GIS model to determine the spatial diversity of the catchment environment. This enables simulation of runoff from the catchment, including: precipitation, evapotranspiration, interception of plant surface and soil cover, infiltration and capillary rise in soil and groundwater runoff. Simulated processes depend on the required non-distributed parameters, which were calibrated based on hydrometeorological data from the three rural catchments with different physical and geographical characteristics: Mławka, located in the Wkra basin in Central Poland and the rivers Kamienna and Sidra, which are tributaries of the upper Biebrza in north-eastern part of the country. Distributed catchment parameters were specified on the basis of digital soil maps, land use maps and digital elevation model using GIS techniques. Non-distributed model parameters were calibrated for the three catchments using automatic techniques based on the PEST algorithm. The obtained values of these parameters were scrutinized in order to analyse differences resulting from various characteristics of the study areas. The quality of the model was verified upon dependent and independent data. Appropriate quality measures, including Nash-Sutcliffe efficiency measure, were used to assess model quality. For two catchments (the Sidra and Kamienna) the model showed a satisfactory quality for modelling high flows, it was, however, not satisfactory for low flows. The values for the Mławka catchment justified the assessment of the model quality measurements as very good and good. The factors most affecting the process of river outflow formation were determined using the analysis of model sensitivity to relative changes in parameter values. It was found that the evaluation of the model quality depended largely on the quality of meteorological data and proper parameterization of the soil cover.

Objectives To date, the scientific source materials usually focus on microbial contamination of the museum or library collections themselves, while the exposure of persons who professionally deal with this type of objects in cultural heritage conservation laboratories is ignored. Material and Methods The study was carried out in 9 naturally ventilated conservation laboratories with no history of water damage. Viable (understood as culturable) bioaerosol stationary samples were collected in both outdoor and indoor environments using 6-stage Andersen impactor. Simultaneously, stationary and personal indoor bioaerosol measurements were carried out using both Gesamtstaubprobenahme an der Person (GSP) and Button filter samplers. These measurements were complemented by evaluation of microbial content in the dust settled on conserved works of art. All impactor, filter, and settled dust samples were quantitatively examined to obtain viable and total concentrations of bacteria and fungi. All isolated microbial strains were taxonomically identified. Results At workplaces, the concentrations of viable microorganisms in air were below 2000 cfu/m³ and accounted for not more than 5.5% of total microbiota. The study showed that quantitative assessment of viable bioaerosol can be made with an Andersen impactor as well as by using Button and GSP filter samplers, irrespective of whether they are applied for personal or stationary measurements. Compared to the impactor, however, the use of filter samplers for microbial contamination monitoring substantially limits the scope of qualitative information which can be obtained. Size distribution analysis revealed that the largest “load” of microorganisms can penetrate into the respiratory tract between the trachea and terminal bronchi, and thereby may be responsible for allergic inflammations in exposed workers. Conclusions The precise assessment of microbial hazards in conservation laboratories should comprise control of both viable and total particle counts. The hermetization of such workplaces and control of relative humidity should be implemented and maintained to assure proper hygienic conditions.

The main goal of this paper is to describe the results of sounding the Gdansk Bay sea bed by using a SES- 2000 Standard parametric sub-bottom profiler. Quality of data obtained during trials depends inter alia on a proper location of transducer array to reduce influence of pitch, roll and heave motions as well as ship self noise (resulting from bubbles due to propeller and flow around hull, vibration generated by main engine and auxiliary devices). Furthermore, calibration of complementary units such as GPS, heading sensor, MRU-Z motion sensor and navigation devices make sea-bed investigating system capable of working with its whole capability. Results of so prepared surveys have been presented and discussed. They contain also an elaborated map of Gdansk Bay with preliminarily classified sea-bed materials and description of most interesting areas.

Magnetostriction of a large slab of conventional NbTi superconductor, with a diameter of about 6 mm, was investigated by the strain gauge technique. At the temperature of 4.2 K and in the external magnetic field of several T we found irreversible magnetostriction of an order of 10$\text{}^{-5}$, where the number means the relative changes of the slab diameter. This large magnetostriction is accompanied by giant magnetostriction jumps, caused by thermomagnetic avalanches. These thermomagnetic avalanches also cause giant jumps of the surface magnetization, which can be observed by using the Hall probes. The results were analyzed in the framework of the pinning induced magnetostriction model.

Although no spin-glass effects were observed, nevertheless, a strong effect of 3 at% cobalt doping was evidenced. The main effect of Co-doping concerns the direction of the antiferromagnetic vector, which for Ni$\text{}_{3}$V$\text{}_{2}$O$\text{}_{8}$ appears along the $a$ axis, while for only slightly Co doped crystals - along the $c$ axis. This switching of direction results from distinct changes of the magnetocrystalline anisotropy due to the presence of Co$\text{}^{2+}$ ions strongly coupled to the kagome lattice. The disorder introduced by doping has practically no effect on the magnitude of the isotropic exchange interactions. At the same time the doping suppresses the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya exchange interactions due to the change of direction of the antiferromagnetic vector.
