Improving the energy efficiency of large grinding mills is of great importance to reduce the energy cost of mineral processing. The ratio of SAG mill to ball mill’s energy consumption varies greatly among SABC operations. Thus far, very few research studies have been conducted to demonstrate how the SAG mill or ball mill responses to the change of circuit energy distribution in terms of comminution efficiency. The present study investigated the energy performance of an operating SABC circuit at variable circuit energy distributions. An energy benchmarking model was used to assess the comminution energy efficiency of SAG mill, ball mill, and overall circuit. It is found that the target SABC circuit achieves the highest overall energy efficiency when 37.6% of the total circuit energy is distributed to the SAG mill and 62.4% to the ball mill. The maximum energy efficiency of this SABC circuit is approximately 25% when compared to the minimum practical energy required to carry out an equivalent comminution duty. The study also showed that the ball mill is more sensitive to the variation in circuit energy distribution than the SAG mill.

Opis:
To achieve climate change targets and to improve the efficiency of fossil fuel power plant the temperature and pressure of operation must be increased. With steam temperatures predicted to rise by 50-100 K in the next 30 years, this presents a number of material challenges, not least for the ferritic steels used for steam pipework. Currently the best in class ferritic steel for power plant steam pipework is P92, a 9-12% Cr advanced martensitic steel that was developed for its superior high temperature creep resistance. This paper will give a brief overview of P92 microstructure, composition and metallurgy and identify experimentally and computationally some key features of the material. As well as failure by creep, P92 at high temperature also suffers from steam oxidation damage. Recent literature suggests that coatings applied to P92 are a very promising solution. A short review of previous work on steam oxidation resistant coatings for P92 is included. A novel Co-Cr-C coating that has not previously been explored for this application is described. Experimental and computational characterisation is included.

Based on a three-year field experiment under controlled condition in Ji’nan, China, the effects of peanut growth on the variation in the abundance and community structure of ammonia oxidizing bacteria (AOB) and archaea (AOA) before and after peanut growth were investigated through quantitative PCR and cluster analysis of terminal-restriction fragment length polymorphism. Our results show that the community composition of AOA and AOB was greatly affected by the peanut growth leading to the decreased abundance of AOA and increased abundance of AOB. Furthermore, AOA and AOB community structures varied before and after peanut growth. Phylogenetic analysis indicated that all AOA and AOB community sequences were clustered into the uncultured group. Altogether, the results suggested that the abundance of AOA and AOB in soil and their community compositions can be greatly affected by the peanut growth.

Opis:
In this paper, an integrated TFT gate driver was designed on the glass substrate not only to decrease the fluctuation at the output, but also to reduce the stress effect on the pull-down branches. The fluctuation in the voltage at the output transistor was attributed to the coupled clocks through the parasitic capacitors in the TFTs. In this study, the voltage gating the pull-down braches was reduced for longer operational lifetime. This scheme was investigated by simulation by Smart-SPICE with an α-Si TFT model from Wintek Inc. at level 35.

Przewidywanie niezawodności polega na ocenie niezawodności urządzeń lub wyrobów z użyciem modeli i danych matematycznych przed wejściem tych pierwszych do produkcji lub ich modyfikacją, zanim dostępne są dane empiryczne. Jest to ważna część działań mających na celu poprawę niezawodności, jakie prowadzi się podczas całego czasu eksploatacji danego systemu. Artykuł koncentruje się na zagadnieniu przewidywania niezawodności elementów składowych silnika Diesla. Dla skrócenia czasu gromadzenia potrzebnych informacji oraz poprawy skuteczności predykcji zaproponowano metodę zintegrowaną z analizą przyczyn i skutków uszkodzenia (FMEA). Metoda stanowi modyfikację metody podobieństwa konstrukcyjnego (design similarity), w której niezawodność nowego elementu składowego oblicza się porównując występowanie przyczyn jego uszkodzeń w nowej konstrukcji z ich występowaniem w podobnym, już istniejącym elemencie składowym. Proponowaną metodę omówiono na przykładzie predykcji niezawodności uszczelki głowicy cylindra silnika o zapłonie samoczynnym.
Reliability prediction involves reliability estimation of equipment or products prior to their production or modification by applying mathematical models and data before empirical data are available. It is an important part of reliability improvement work in the whole lifetime of a system. This paper focuses on the reliability prediction of diesel engine components. To reduce the time of gathering useful information and to improve prediction efficiency, a method integrated with design failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) is proposed. The method is a modification of design similarity method in which the reliability of a new component is calculated by comparing its failure modes occurrence in the new design with the one of a similar existing component. An example about reliability prediction of a cylinder head gasket in a diesel engine is used to illustrate the proposed method.

Compared to reverse cationic flotation, the advantages of reverse anionic flotation include relatively lower sensitivity to slimes and lower reagent cost. Besides, anionic collectors were found to have excellent capability of selectively separating an ultrafine magnetite ore. Addition of a small amount of cationic collector into the anionic collector as the collector mixture can improve the metallurgical results of removing silicates in reverse flotation. In this paper, NaOL and DDA were used for reverse flotation of the ultrafine magnetic concentrate. The separation performance of the collector mixture was investigated at different ratios of NaOL and DDA. The results showed that a better separation performance was obtained for the collector mixture than for NaOL alone. There was an optimal molar ratio between NaOL and DDA equal to 10:1. In the flotation system with the presence of the collector mixture, the good selectivity was found when starch was used as a depressor for magnetite and CaO was used as an activator for quartz. The influences of starch and CaO dosages on the separation performance of magnetite, quartz and chlorite had been investigated through micro-flotation tests. The infrared spectral analysis showed stretching vibration peaks of chemical adsorption of the collector mixture on the magnetite surface. The peaks were not present when starch was used as the depressor for magnetite. The closed flotation tests on the magnetic concentrate with the particle size of -25 μm were performed in the laboratory. The Fe concentrate assaying 64.52 % was obtained with Fe recovery of 80.66%, for the Fe content of feed equal to 52.98%.

Pre-concentration is effectively applied in recovering wolframite from tungsten ore, due to its benefits of further upgrading tungsten ore and improving separation efficiency. The most important pre-concentration techniques for tungsten ore include gravity separation and magnetic separation, based on the fact that there are appreciable differences, between the desired wolframite and the gangue minerals, in density and magnetic susceptibility. This study investigated the separation efficiency of gravity pre-concentration (Falcon Concentrator) and high-gradient magnetic pre-concentration (SLon VPHGMS) for the beneficiation of a Canada tungsten ore. It is a low-grade type of ore with high silica and arsenic content, and an average content of WO3 is about 0.45%. The optimum conditions for different operational parameters of two pre-concentration separators were studied on this low-grade material. The results presented in this paper suggested that although both pre-concentration techniques were effective for producing pre-concentrates containing high WO3, magnetic pre-concentration showed significantly better separation efficiency. Over 90% of the feed was rejected as the final tailings, meanwhile, over 85% of arsenic minerals were removed with tailings, while the WO3 loss was less than 15%.

In order to establish a condition monitoring system to detect wear of the mechanical components of feed drives with ball screws a measuring and data evaluation method has been established. In order to keep the costs down, boundary condition is to use the machines own functionalities only (On Board Diagnosis). At present, most of wear detecting methods use vibration analysis. Here, a signal analysis method is presented that may well complement established methods of vibration analysis. The publication presents a method to exploit positioning data to detect wear of a ball screw drive exemplarily that is run under real conditions. The presented method is partially derived from wear detection methods of roller bearings and may also be adapted for other parts such as linear guides.

Prolonged running has been popularized globally in recent decades. This study was aimed to reveal information about foot morphology, shoe comfort and plantar loading among recreational heel-strike runners. Methods: Twenty-six runners participated in foot morphology, perceived scores and peak pressure tests after 10- and 20-km track running. The foot morphology was measured using a 3D foot scanner, perceived scores were recorded using a visual analogue scale and plantar pressure was measured via insole plantar pressure measurement system. The statistical significance level was set at 0.05. Results: The heel midsole materials properties were measured before and after 20 km. Significant changes were observed in ball width and girth, arch height and foot volume. The perceived scores showed significance in overall, forefoot and heel comfort, arch support and forefoot width. Peak pressure to the heel, medial mid-foot and metatarsal greatly increased. The first metatarsal showed consecutive increase from static to 10 km, and 20 km, while big-toe showed a decrease. Conclusions: The morphology variations and forefoot loading concentration may lead to discomfort and possibly imply dermatological problems and metatarsal bone stress, particularly on the first metatarsal. Combining changes of heel midsole property, knowledge of foot shape, shoe perception and plantar pressure is of great value for recreational long-distance running shoes design and materials selection.

Opis:
With the aim of studying the characteristics of laser-triggered surface flashover in voltage pulse, synchronization problem of laser pulse and voltage pulse should be solved. A single/double harmonic, with wavelength λ of 1064/532 nm, Q-switched Nd:YAG laser is used to trigger the surface flashover. The synchronization problem is solved using a self-made digital delay/pulse generator. The delay time and jitter of Marx's trigger input and output, Marx's trigger output and Marx's output, laser input and output are respectively measured. Based on the result of the delay time and the timing sequence of the laser triggering system, the synchronization of laser pulse and voltage pulse is obtained through adjusting the channel delay time of digital delay/pulse generator. In addition, introductory experiment of laser-triggered surface flashover is carried out using the flat electrodes and columned insulators.

We consider an elliptic equation driven by a nonlinear, nonhomogeneous differential operator with nonstandard growth. The reaction has the combined effects of a singular term and of a “superlinear” perturbation. There is no parameter in the problem. Using variational tools and truncation and comparison techniques, we show the existence of at least two positive smooth solutions.

Newly discovered specimens of the orthothecide hyoliths in Hebei Province of North China reveal new data on diversity, skeletal microstructure and palaeoecology of the order Orthothecida. Decoritheca cyrene possesses a well-defined skeletal structure consisting of rows of tubercles in the shell wall, which correspond to dimples on the internal surface of the conch. We describe a new species Cupitheca convexa sp. nov. characterised by a planar and interior convex operculum with a pair of bilobate cardinal processes, which differs from the more widespread C. holocyclata in opercular morphology and overall ornamentation of the conch, highting the significance of operculum in the classification of hyoliths. First discovery of the presumed unusual protoconch of C. convexa sp. nov. implies a possible lecithotrophic development to adapt to nutrient-fluctuant environments. Pitting structure on the operculum and shell as well as lamellar- fibrillar structure on the internal mould of C. convexa sp. nov. are observed herein.

In order to improve operation skill of the operators, the design of the auxiliary intelligent operating system of the dragline was studied. Whereby the gyroscopes incorporated in smartphone and data sequence filter algorithm, the automatic collection function of operation cycle, the rotation angle and other parameters of the dragline are attained. In line with the relations among the rotation angle of equipment operation, time-spent and the acceleration, the ratio of the acceleration and deceleration rotation angle in full load rotation and non-loaded return stage are acquired respectively. The function of bucket in rotation was realized. Comprehensive score calculation standard of the technique level of the dragline-based operation was developed, and the function of automatic checking the operation level was effectuated. Field experiment results indicated that the operators’ faults are markedly reduced as the auxiliary intelligent operating system is employed. By using the system the operation behavior of low power slow rotation in rain, snow, low atmospheric pressure and other severe weather conditions can be reduced, assuring all-weather efficient and safe operation of dragline.
