Opis:
This paper presents a procedure of acquisition of diagnostic signals, needed for a comprehensive diagnostics of squirrel cage motors. The is data obtained from a Data Acquisition Card (DAQ), measuring transducers and a database. The procedure allows the measurements of the required quantities and data transfer to the server via the LAN Network or the Internet. Basic diagnostic signals required to evaluate the condition of the squirrel cage motor are three phase currents and phase voltages feeding the stator of the machine, measured at the same instant. The system delivers data needed to the comprehensive diagnostic of the squirrel cage motors, especially the ones used to detect faults which are difficult to recognize without simultaneous measurements of motor currents and control of a stator voltage symmetry. Simultaneous measurement of the three currents and the three voltages is necessary for the diagnostic methods, based on the analysis of the specific features of the motor currents component's spectrum described by the authors. This paper contains examples of the diagnostic signal analysis collected and stored with the use of the developed data acquisition system.

Opis:
Owing to the high toxicity of cadmium (Cd) towards biota and the considerable quantities of this element entering the environment from anthropogenic sources, interest in its biogeochemistry is increasing. This is also true for the marine environment, which serves as a sink for both natural and anthropogenic Cd loads entering the hydrosphere and the atmosphere. The distribution of Cd in the coastal zone of the marine environment is governed primarily by the flux of the so-called fluffy layer suspended matter (FLSM), which spreads across the top of the sea floor as a several-centimetre-thick layer containing highly concentrated suspended matter. Both total contents and solid speciation of Cd was measured in FLSM collected in the Pomeranian Bay – Arkona Deep system (Western Baltic Proper) in the course of the three-year-long study. Seasonal changes in the total Cd content (0.5–1.8 μg g−1 dry matter) were attributed to the contribution of organic suspensions originating from algal blooms. The decreasing content of Cd in FLSM offshore is due to the input of Cd-rich suspended matter from the River Odra (Oder), and the decreasing organic matter content in FLSM with increasing depth. The contribution of labile fractions (adsorbed and bound to iron(III) hydroxides) was found to be from 50 to 75% of the total content. In view of the substantial mobility and bioavailability of the fractions, this is a highly alarming feature.

Opis:
Timber obtained after snow or wind calamity cannot be usually processed at once, so it is necessary to store and protect the raw material often in provisional conditions. The classic wet protection is difficult to apply for the lack of water or insufficient equipment of the landfills. Protection with reduced oxygen content is a relatively new method, based on the biological activity of extracted wood, which consumes oxygen and produces carbon dioxide. The aim of the work was to verify and document the success rate of long−term storage of wood raw materials by the method of limited access of oxygen in the Czech Republic. Two piles protected by the described method were established in 2008. The first pile contained 1203 logs with a total volume of 304 m³. 179 samples were selected and documented and their quality was determined at the beginning of the storage. The other pile included 1241 logs with length of 5 m with a total volume of 302 m³, 168 samples were evaluated and documented. The piles were gradually opened year by year. The quality of the protection was evaluated according to the changes in the quality of the log samples before and after the storage. The defects and quality were assessed. Log quality of the first pile declined in grade A by 1.91%, quality B increased by 5.1%, quality C increased by 10.83% and quality D decreased by 14.02%. Log quality in the second pile increased in grade A by 4.93%, grade B decreased by 4.93%, grade C increased by 3.52% and grade D decreased by 3.52%. Identified defects included mainly cracks and stain. Stain has increased in first pile by 4%, while by 15.6% in the other one and led usually to the deterioration of the quality. The compensation of moisture inside the individual logs during the storage period resulted in the reduction in checks size and number (12.1% and 8.2% in the first and second pile. respectively). Obtained results show that the storage without free oxygen access is very effective. During the storage the logs are protected sufficiently against fungi and insects.

Opis:
One of the most difficult technological operations in forest utilization is wood transport, especially its first stage i.e. extraction. This is related to the fact that the forest operations must be economically effective, but also safe for the forest environment. Difficult terrain conditions require determining and choosing the optimal variant of skidding. The most popular method for optimizing work is the use of working day photography. However, it is time−consuming and labor−intensive, that is why it is possible to use an alternative way of measuring working time, i.e. snapshot observations. It is therefore important to determine which measurement method is appropriate for the complicated and variable production processes in forestry. The aim of the research was to assess the accuracy of snapshots at intervals of 1 and 5 minute in relation to the stopwatch time study (which was a reference measurement), carried out for a two−stage wood logging in quasi−mountain terrain conditions of the Elbląg Upland (N Poland). It’s mountain like characteristics causes some difficulties in the forest works. Data for the study were collected in two periods – summer and winter. We did not prove statistically significant differences between the methods studied.

Opis:
Fluffy Layer Suspended Matter (FLSM) is a layer of fairly concentrated suspended matter resting on the sea floor. Its passage to the depositional basins in the Pomeranian Bay – Arkona Deep System of the Baltic Sea is estimated to take around six months. In the course of this migration, the properties of FLSM change as a result of ageing and the influx of fresh particles from the water column, and possibly also because of mass exchange with the uppermost sediment layers. Measurements of radioisotopes (210Po, 210Pb, 137Cs) have demonstrated that in shallow water this topmost layer of sediments, from 8 cm to 3 cm in thickness, is subject to mixing. This creates redox profiles favourable to biota and bioturbation. Basing on 210Pb/210Po disequilibria and the 210Po excess, it was estimated that under steady state conditions from 1.5 to 2.2% of fine fraction (FSF) in the mixed layer of sediments is freshly imported from FLSM. This implies replacement of FSF from the sediments and its incorporation into FLSM. On the assumption that the surface density of FLSM is 10 mg cm−2, FSF freshly exported from sediments actually comprises up to 15% of FLSM. Therefore, the properties of FLSM are strongly influenced by the processes taking place in the sediments, although FLSM by definition is independent of sediments.

Opis:
Fluffy layer suspended matter (FLSM) and surface sediment samples from the Pomeranian Bay were examined for fatty acid, lipid and organic matter contents. FLSM is a several-centimetre-thick layer of fairly concentrated particulate matter lying on the sea floor significantly affecting the flux of matter to depositional basins. Analyses of fatty acids were used to establish sources and decomposition rates of labile organic matter along a transect from the shallow, highly dynamic, Odra estuary to the Arkona Basin, a deep, low energy, depositional area. In FLSM and sediments respectively, the ranges of organic matter contents were 4.0–25.0% and 5.1–23.0%, those of lipids 0.1–5.4% and 0.30–1.67%, and those of fatty acids 50–991 μg g−1 dry wt. and 100–546 μg g−1 dry wt. In shallow waters, the contents of these compounds are very variable, mirroring variations in biological activity and hydrological conditions. The high percentage of polyunsaturated fatty acids in shallow areas indicates the presence of fresh, undegraded, labile organic matter of autochthonous origin. Fatty acids, the most labile components, are transported as suspended matter attached to minerals and finally accumulated in the depositional area in the form of condensed organic macromolecules. The intensity of bacterial decomposition of organic matter in this system is reflected in the high percentage of branched fatty acids. The low fatty acid content in the organic matter is attributed to the high rate of decomposition of the labile organic matter. No linear correlation was found between the contents of fatty acids and lipids.

Opis:
Bilberry, the most commonly collected fruit of Polish forests, has not only culinary values, but also proven therapeutic and preventive effects. It is a valuable forest raw material for herbal, pharmaceutical and food companies producing dietary supplements and drugs. The range of applications for bilberry is very wide, and the most important feature of this raw material is the high antioxidant potential associated with anthocyanins content. The aim of the study was to analyze the anthocyanins content in bilberry fruit, determine the time−related variability of this feature and relate the obtained results to pharmacopoeial standards. On selected sample plot, ripe bilberry fruits were collected at five−day intervals. As a preliminary test, dry matter and refractometric index measurement were carried out. Moreover, spectrophotometric determination of anthocyanins content expressed as chrysanthemin (cyanidin 3−O−glucoside chloride) was examined, both in fresh and dried fruits. We found that regardless of the harvesting time, the bilberry fruits with 0.3035−0.7403% anthocyanins content meet the pharmacopoeial norm (0.3%). Furthermore, dried bilberry fruits, containing from 1.0151 to 2.0164% anthocyanins, can also be considered as a valuable anthocyanin raw material, however, the loss in anthocyanins content is 48.956% on average. The period of full usefulness of bilberry fruit in the context of anthocyanins content coincides with the period of their consumption attractiveness, so there is no need to apply separate recommendations for obtaining fruits of this species for medicinal purposes. We found however, that in the second half of the harvesting period, this raw material has a much more stable anthocyanins content than in the first, when it increases significantly.
