    Given that organ transplant is a standard medical technology admitted in medical practice, and taking into consideration that Polish transplantology is regarded among the most advanced in the world one should expect to find similarly high levels of acceptance in interviewees asked for their opinion on vital organ transplantation and their willingness to donate a paired organ ex vivo, or a vital organ ex mortuo in order to rescue the life of a recipient with a missing vital organ. The paper presents research build on the societal assessment of vital organ donation and transplant policies in Poland with the focus on students. Data have been collected at three different universities (Boratyński et al., Questionnaire on the Bases of Transplantation Medicine 2016/7). Various assessments concerning a vital organ donation have been observed. The authors discuss educational factors contributing to these variety including factual knowledge and ethical issues.

    Opis:
    A non-exclusive approach in conducting survey-based research which assumes the participation of people with disabilities is one of the important ethical aspects of the research process. The use of the tool, which has been designed in accordance with the universal user-oriented design, makes it possible for people with disabilities to take an active part in surveys. This means that they can present their attitudes and express opinions within the conducted surveys. The aim of the article is to present the issue of conducting surveys using an electronic questionnaire among deaf people, modelled on the Avatar PJM project. People with a hearing impairment, whose first or primary language used for communication is a sign language, should be given a questionnaire in an appropriate form enabling them to complete it easily. The discussed project presents a proposal to construct a questionnaire using the LimeSurvey software. The questionnaire has been adapted to the needs and expectations of the recipient group. The presented solution for designing a user-friendly research tool can be used in other types of research in this group of respondents (e.g. industrial or educational research) or can become an inspiration for further research in this field.

    Bezpieczeństwo żywnościowe w zakresie białka roślinnego jest celem nadrzędnym polityki gospodarczej każdego kraju, stąd też w Polsce podjęto działania zmierzające do restytucji produkcji rodzimych roślin strączkowych. Celem badań było porównanie opłacalności uprawy czterech odmian grochu przy zastosowaniu dwóch poziomów nawożenia fosforem (standardowego- 70 kg. ha-1 i wysokiego 140 kg. ha-1). Badania prowadzono w Stacji Doświadczalnej Instytutu Produkcji Roślinnej Uniwersytetu Rolniczego w Krakowie w latach 2013-2015. Wykazano, iż większa dawka nawozów fosforowych daje przyrost plonu tylko w latach o zwiększonej ilości odpadów. Średnio w całym okresie badań zwiększenie dawki nawozów niekorzystnie wpływało na opłacalność produkcji dla wszystkich odmian grochu. Nie wpłynęło ono również na zmniejszenie wahań plonów i tym samym opłacalności. Badania wykazały, iż zdecydowanie najlepszą opłacalnością produkcji cechowała się odmiana Mecenas, która przy standardowej dawce nawozów generowała nadwyżkę przychodów nad kosztami bezpośrednimi na poziomie od 100% od 145%. Wahania opłacalności produkcji były zatem stosunkowo niewielkie, co również przemawia za jej uprawą.
    Food security of vegetable protein is of utmost importance for economic policy of each country, hence there have been actions taken in Poland that lead to the restitution of native production of legumes. The aim of this research has been a comparison of cultivation profitability of four varieties of the pea with the use of two levels of phosphorus fertilization (standard - 70 kg.ha-1 and high - 140 kg.ha-1). This research has been carried out in the years 2013-2015 in an Experimental Station of the Institute of Plant Production in the University of Agriculture in Krakow. It has been proved that a higher dose of phosphorus fertilizers results in the increase in crops only in the years when there was an expanded number of rainfall. It has been pointed out that on average over a span of the whole research, the increased dose of fertilizers has negatively influenced the profitability of production of all pea varieties. This action has put an impact on neither the decrease in crops fluctuation nor profitability. The research has shown that a variety “Mecenas” has the best profitability of production, because with the use of a standard dose of fertilizers, it has given an income surplus over direct costs (between 100% to 145%). Thus, there has been relatively little fluctuation of profitability of production, which weighs in favour of cultivation of the “Mecenas” variety.

    In times of universal access to the Internet virtual reality is no longer a reflection of the real world, but is beginning to influence people’s behaviour in the real world and their views. The definition of medical professionalism therefore is also changing and doctors, who may be judged on the basis of their Internet image and whose knowledge can be verified more easily these days, face new challenges. This represents both a risk and opportunity; therefore, it is worth investigating the status of research into this issue conducted to date. In this work we present world data demonstrating an increase in social media activity of doctors and patients, including on Facebook, which is the second most frequently visited website. We also point to risks involved in sharing personal data on the Internet (real name, surname, date of birth, photograph). By sharing their private information online, the doctor allows for confronting their professional image with their private life. A patient who can see private photographs of their doctor may begin to doubt the doctor’s professionalism and competences and thus lose confidence in them, which will inevitably compromise the therapeutic process. We also provide a number of rules laid down by medical associations from many countries, which one should bear in mind when posting content on the Internet (the main rule is: “We should not post anything on the Internet that we would not say in a crowded lift”). We also describe the benefits for the doctor that can be derived from sensible use of Facebook and we summarise studies on creating a professional, coherent Internet image of the doctor.
    W dobie powszechnego dostępu do internetu wirtualna rzeczywistość przestaje być tylko odbiciem realnego świata – zaczyna oddziaływać na postępowanie ludzi w prawdziwym życiu i ich poglądy. Zmienia się więc również definicja medycznego profesjonalizmu, a przed lekarzami, którzy mogą być oceniani na podstawie swojego wizerunku w sieci i których wiedzę łatwiej obecnie zweryfikować, stają nowe wyzwania. Jest to zarówno zagrożenie, jak i szansa, dlatego warto zapoznać się ze stanem dotychczasowych badań nad tym zagadnieniem. W niniejszym opracowaniu prezentujemy światowe dane świadczące o wzroście aktywności lekarzy i pacjentów w portalach społecznościowych, w tym na Facebooku (zajmującym drugie miejsce wśród najczęściej odwiedzanych stron), oraz wskazujemy zagrożenia wynikające z podawania osobistych danych w sieci (prawdziwe imię, nazwisko, data urodzenia, fotografia). Udostępniając online prywatne informacje, lekarz pozwala na skonfrontowanie swojego zawodowego wizerunku ze sferą prywatną. Pacjent, który widzi prywatne zdjęcia lekarza, może zwątpić w jego profesjonalizm i kompetencje, a tym samym stracić do niego zaufanie, co nieuchronnie odbije się na procesie terapeutycznym. Podajemy także garść reguł – opracowanych przez towarzystwa lekarskie z wielu krajów – którymi należy się kierować podczas publikowania treści w internecie (główna zasada brzmi: „Nie powinniśmy zamieszczać w internecie niczego, czego nie powiedzielibyśmy w zatłoczonej windzie”). Ponadto opisujemy korzyści, jakie może przynieść lekarzowi rozsądne korzystanie z Facebooka, oraz streszczamy badania dotyczące budowania profesjonalnego, spójnego wizerunku lekarza w internecie.

    The aim of the study was to diagnose the main trends of the changes in land cover around the urban agglomerations, as illustrated with the example of Lublin, over the last twenty years (1998–2016), as well as their statistical and graphical presentation in the form of digital maps compilation. The project was conducted on the basis of the remote sensing data: RapidEye and LANDSAT 5 TM satellite imagery from three temporal records (1998, 2009–11, 2016–17). Detailed research was carried out in purposefully selected municipalities. The performed analyses showed that in the studied municipalities some changes in the use of arable land and grassland occurred. The largest loss in terms of area share was recorded mainly in the arable land. At the core of the metropolitan area, i.e. in the city of Lublin, over the last 20 years the share of arable land in the total area decreased by almost 11 percentage points (p.p.). In the municipalities located directly at the border with Lublin, this loss was much lower, and was equal 4–5 p.p. Slightly larger changes occurred in municipalities located further from the core, where both in the category of very good and slightly weaker natural conditions, losses of arable land were greater than in municipalities located directly at the core’s border of the metropolitan area (MA).

    The purpose of this study is to verify the extent, to which an accounting system enables acquisition of environmental protection data, and assess the presence of correlation between the pursuit of environmental protection and financial condition. The research hypotheses are: Does accounting system make possible obtaining information about environmental protection? Is there connection between environmental protection and companies condition? To attain this goals, heuristic methods and indicator methods were used. The entities publish increasingly more information on environmental protection. Formalizing and structuring the presentation of environmental protection data in the companies’ reports would be recommended. There is no correlation between environmental protection and condition of a company.
    Celem pracy jest weryfikacja, w jakim stopniu system rachunkowości umożliwia uzyskanie danych dotyczących ochrony środowiska, oraz ocena występowania związku pomiędzy realizacją postulatu ochrony środowiska a kondycją finansową. Hipoteza badawcza pracy zawarta jest w pytaniach: Czy system rachunkowości umożliwia uzyskanie danych dotyczących ochrony środowiska? Czy istnieje związek pomiędzy ochroną środowiska a kondycją firmy? Dla osiągnięcia celu wykorzystano metody heurystyczne i metody wskaźnikowe. Jednostki publikują coraz więcej informacji dotyczących ochrony środowiska. Wskazane byłoby sformalizowanie i uporządkowanie sposobu prezentowania danych dotyczących ochrony środowiska w raportach spółek. Występuje brak związku między ochroną środowiska a kondycją firmy.

    W opracowaniu podjęto ważny dla doradztwa problem dochodowości produkcji, który odniesiono do produkcji owczarskiej prowadzonej w warunkach górskich. Przeprowadzono analizę i ocenę dochodowości trzech modelowych gospodarstw rolnych różniących się organizacją produkcji owczarskiej i co za tym idzie uzyskujących różny poziom i odmienną strukturę produkcji nalnej. Założono, że rozpatrywane trzy modele gospodarstw są adekwatne do obszarów górskich i południowej Polski. Model pierwszy reprezentowało gospodarstwo utrzymujące 40 owiec – matek i dwie krowy, które posiada 11,5 ha ziemi rolniczej przeznaczonej na produkcję pasz dla całorocznie utrzymywanych zwierząt. W gospodarstwie tym produkowane są jagnięta lekkie i oscypki. W modelowym gospodarstwie nr 2, 40 sztuk owiec matek utrzymywane jest na powierzchni 5,3 ha, jagnięta lekkie są sprzedawane na rzeź a owce – matki oddawane na sezon letni do wypasu. Podobne założenia poczyniono dla gospodarstwa trzeciego: 100 sztuk owiec matek, produkcja 150 sztuk jagniąt ciężkich, a łączna powierzchnia gospodarstwa wynosi 27,1 ha. Przeprowadzona ocena ekonomiczna trzech modeli drobnostadnego chowu owiec w górach wskazuje na ogólnie niską opłacalność produkcji. Dodatni dochód rolniczy (bez środków publicznych) generuje tylko gospodarstwo modelowe sprzedające jagnięta lekkie i produkujące oscypki. Zarówno gospodarstwa oddające owce na wypas jak też i produkujące jagnięta ciężkie osiągają ujemny dochód rolniczy. Wielkość i struktura środków pozyskiwanych w ramach WPR sprawia, że dochód rolniczy powiększony o dopłaty jest jednak dodatni. W sytuacji pełnego korzystania z różnych form płatności gospodarstwo największe obszarowo (model III) generuje dochód ponadparytetowy.
    This analysis touches upon the problem of profitability in production, which has been related to sheep production carried out in mountainous conditions. The profitability of three model farms, which focus on sheep production for three different technologies, has been both analyzed and evaluated. By conducting their production for three different technologies, these farms gain diverse level of and structure of their final production. It has been established that the discussed models of farms are adequate to both mountainous areas and Southern Poland. The first model represents a farm with 40 ewes and 2 cows. This farm covers the area of 11,5 ha of arable land aimed at the production of feedstuff for animals fed all year round. The production in this farms is based on lambs and the so-called oscypek (smoked ewe’s milk cheese made in the Tatra Mountains). In contrast, the second model describes a farm, which covers the area of 5,3 ha, with 40 ewes and 1 cow. In this farm light lambs are sold for cutting, whereas ewes are put out to pasture during the summer season. The third farm covers the area of 27,1 ha with 100 ewes and 150 heavy lambs. The results of economic evaluation of the presented models of sheep breeding in mountains show low profitability of production. Only the first farm, which sells light lambs and produces oscypek, shows positive agricultural income. Negative agricultural income is achieved by farms that either put their sheep out to pasture or produce heavy lambs. The structure as well as the size of transfers acquired from the CAP show that the agricultural income, increased by extra money, is positive. The third-farm model, which is the largest and takes advantage of various payment forms, generates the highest income.

    Owczarstwo jest gałęzią gospodarki rolnej, która w ostatnim 20-leciu przeżywała duży regres. Nastąpił głęboki i relatywnie trwały spadek pogłowia, a nawet zanika chów owiec w wielu subregionach kraju, w których przed laty produkcja ta odgrywała znaczącą rolę. Zmniejszeniu pogłowia owiec zwykle towarzyszyło zmniejszenie pogłowia bydła, co spowodowało narastanie problemu porzucania użytkowania trwałych użytków zielonych oraz odłogowania i ugorowania ziemi, jej zakrzaczenie i naturalne zalesianie. Owce mogą ponownie stać się cennym gatunkiem restytucji produkcyjnego wykorzystania terenów rolniczych, ich produktywizacji i dostarczania miejsc pracy i dochodów ludności miejscowej. Jest to szczególnie ważne na obszarach górzystych w naturalny sposób predestynowanych do produkcji zwierzęcej, w tym gór terenów podgórskich Małopolski. W opracowaniu wskazano na spektrum korzyści wynikających z przywrócenia chowu owiec, w tym ich wypasu kulturowego i komercyjno-kulturowego. Podjęto także problem skali niedoboru pogłowia inwentarza trawożernego w Małopolsce. Z badań wynika, że rezerwy paszowe są obecnie bardzo duże, a niedobór inwentarza trawożernego w Małopolsce wynosi ponad 220 tys. DJP, tj. ok. 123% obecnego stanu inwentarza, w tym ok. 100,7% stanu pogłowia owiec.
    Sheep-farming is the branch of agricultural economy which in the last 2 decades has faced a serious regress. It should be noted that a deep and relatively stable decrease in sheep population has occurred. Moreover, the sheep breeding in many sub-regions of Poland, where years ago their production played a significant role, is also disappearing. The decrease in sheep population has been usually concomitant with the decrease in cattle population which has finally resulted in the increasing problem of abandonment of grasslands, the process of land being brownfielded and fallowed, and the process of land forestation and shrubs. Sheeps can again become unique species of animal reintroduction for productive usage of agricultural areas, their productiveness, and the provision of both workplace and local population incomes. These premises are particularly significant for mountainous areas, including mountains and foothills in the Małopolska Province, which are naturally predestined for animal production. In the analysis the emphasis has been put on the wide array of benefits which result from the sheep breeding reintroduction, including both cultural and commercial-cultural sheep pasture. Problem concerning the scale of sheep population shortage in the herbivorous livestock in Małopolska Province has also been tackled. The conducted analysis have shown that feed reserves are currently enormous, whereas the shortage of herbivorous livestock in Małopolska Province amounts to over 220 thousand. LU, that is 123% of a current state of livestock, including about 100,7% of sheep population state.

    The main aim of this paper was to assess the factors of farmland abandonment in selected metropolitan areas in Poland. The research used secondary research material, including data from the Main Statistical Office (Polish GUS) and academic literature. Analyses were conducted by means of the method of regression trees, among other things. The research found out that nearly 16% of farmland in Polish metropolitan areas had been abandoned. The factor that most affected set-aside was the share of small farms with an area of less than 5 ha of agricultural land. In communes with the majority of small farms, almost 30% of agricultural land was set aside. Entrepreneurship indicator, population density and net migration were also significant in explaining the phenomenon discussed in the paper. High values of these measures correlated with more advanced processes of farmland abandonment.
    Głównym celem opracowania była ocena czynników wyłączania gruntów z produkcji rolnej w wybranych obszarach metropolitalnych w Polsce. W badaniach wykorzystano wtórny materiał badawczy, w tym dane GUS oraz literaturę przedmiotu. Analizy prowadzono z wykorzystaniem metody drzew regresyjnych. Badania wykazały, że w polskich obszarach metropolitalnych prawie 16% gruntów rolnych nie było wykorzystywanych produkcyjnie. Czynnikiem, który w największym stopniu różnicował odłogowanie gruntów był udział gospodarstw rolnych o powierzchni poniżej 5 ha UR. W gminach, w których dominowały małe gospodarstwa rolne odłogowano prawie 30% gruntów. Duże znacznie w wyjaśnianiu opisywanego zjawiska odegrały również wskaźnik przedsiębiorczości, gęstość zaludnienia oraz saldo migracji. Wysokie wartości wymienionych mierników przedkładały się na wyższe zaawansowanie procesów wyłączania gruntów z produkcji rolnej.

    Purpose – The aim of the study was to assess the impact of the location of farms, the quality of natural conditions and fragmentation of agricultural holdings on the rate of landowners’ departure from agricultural activity, including cattle and pig farming. Research method – The study covered six provinces: Dolnośląskie, Małopolskie, Lubelskie, Mazowieckie, Pomorskie, Wielkopolskie. The considerations carried out were conducted in the system of districts for the years 2004-2016. Results – The largest decrease in the number of direct payment beneficiaries in the years 2004-2016 was recorded in the districts located on the outskirts of metropolitan areas. It was observed that in territorial units which obtained a higher evaluation of the quality of agricultural production space the regression in terms of the number of farms involved in animal production was significantly smaller, and the decrease in the number of single area payment beneficiaries was also smaller. In districts with relatively good natural conditions, faster departue from cattle and pig rearing was facilitated by the fragmentation of the area structure of farms. Originality / value / implications / recommendations – So far,the lack of detailed analyses of changes taking place in agriculture in Polish metropolitan areas has been noted, while this issue has been an important field of interest for researchers in the world for several decades. Therefore itmeans that work should be considered innovative. The results of the undertaken considerations constitute a significant contribution to explaining the reasons for the deagrarianisation of rural areas.
