Opis:
Reverse mentoring, which refers to the relationship between a young employee in the role of the mentor and a more senior and experienced employee in the role of the mentee, is gaining popularity in the business world. This study aims to discuss the relationship between research assistants, who are just starting at the academy and are thought to have traces of reverse mentoring, and advisors with more experience in the academy, in the context of the functions and sub-functions of reverse mentoring. In this exploratory study, in which a qualitative research method was adopted, data was obtained as a result of semi-structured interviews with 17 research assistants working in different faculties and departments at a state university in Turkey. The data obtained after the interviews with the research assistants was analysed using content analysis. The findings of the research suggested that the career, psycho-social, and role model functions of reverse mentoring in the relationship between research assistants and their advisors have sub-functions of knowledge sharing, challenging ideas, networking, friendship, and new perspectives. It was also concluded that other functions were at a limited level or non-existent.

Although one study on psych-verbs and a few on unaccusatives examined Turkish L2 learners’ acquisition, no research compared a single set of learners’ acquisitions of these verbs together from a processing point of view. In this regard, the current study aims to investigate whether the processing complexity of passivization influences acquisition of psych and unaccusative verbs. It also questions whether general accuracy levels in Grammaticality Judgement Task (GJT) and degree of familiarity with target verbs are related to their level of accuracy with individual psych and unaccusative verbs. 33 undergraduate-level university students performed on the GJT and a Word Familiarity Rating Task (WFRT). The GJT included 38 items with 12 sentences for psych-verbs, 12 sentences for unaccusative-verbs, 12 sentences for distracters and 2 sentences for examples. The elimination of all forms of discrimination between the sexes is not only a fundamental human right but it also is very important to support all other areas of development, particularly sustainable development. The aim of this study is to empirically investigate the role of information and communication technologies on employment inequality in Turkey. Therefore, the relationship between ICT applications and female labour force participation is investigated with the auto regressive distributed lag (ARDL) model and impulse response analysis. The results showed that there is no association between information and communication technologies and the female labour force participation rate for the period 1988–2018. These findings may suggest that developing countries also need to have a certain level of development in other areas such as democracy, fundamental rights and freedoms and the rule of law to benefit from the opportunities that information and communication technologies offer to empower the whole society including women.

Opis:
Introduction: The development of resistance to multiple antimicrobial agents in pathogenic bacteria has become a threat to public health. Multidrug-resistant strains that are particularly dangerous include MDR, XDR and PDR strains. Material and methods: Aspirate material from paranasal sinuses, obtained from patients with chronic sinusitis undergoing functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS) in Medical Center MML in Warsaw, was subjected to bacteriologic analysis. The isolated strains were identified to the species level and tested for antibiotic resistance. Then, minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) was determined. R esults: The isolated strains of coagulase-negative staphylococci were resistant mainly to macrolides, aminoglycosides and tetracycline. Nine of the isolated strains exhibited multidrug-resistance. Discussion: Bacteria causing chronic sinusitis are becoming increasingly resistant to antimicrobial agents. The diagnostic process for coagulase-negative staphylococci (CNS) is often limited to the identification of species, or even genus of the bacteria. The CNS strains are considered to be non-pathogenic and they are not subject to eradication. This may lead to erroneous therapeutic decisions and, consequently, to the development of antibiotic resistance. CNS infections are classified as nosocomial and therefore, appropriate epidemiological procedures have to be followed. The authors highlight the necessity to determine MIC values for antibiotics and to introduce personalized treatment.

Opis:
Wstęp: Pojawienie się oporności na wiele środków przeciwdrobnoustrojowych u bakterii chorobotwórczych stało się znaczącym zagrożeniem dla zdrowia publicznego. Szczególnie niebezpieczne są wielooporne szczepy: MDR, XDR, PDR. Materiały i metody: Analizie bakteriologicznej poddano materiał w postaci aspiratów z zatok przynosowych, pobranych w czasie zabiegu operacyjnego FESS od pacjentów Centrum Medycznego MML w Warszawie, leczonych z powodu przewlekłego zapalenia zatok.

Pheochromocytomas are rare tumors arising from the adrenal medulla. The diagnosis of malignancy remains a dogma between surgeon, pathologist and oncologist. We present a case of voluminous pheochromocytoma in a 53-year-old female patient, suspect of malignancy in the pathologic examination, while emphasizing the importance of the clinical and radiological long-term monitoring.
