Opis:
Sediment samples were collected from the coastal area of the Petrochemical Special Economic Zone of Musa Bay. The samples were analyzed to determine the degree of hydrocarbon contamination and identify the sources of PAHs which were evaluated by employing the ratios of specific PAHs compounds and principal component analysis (PCA). The levels of TPH concentration in the studied area were relatively moderate compared to the world-wide chronically oil-contaminated locations. The concentration of total PAHs was lower than those in other parts of the Musa Bay but approached the NOAA sediment quality guideline value.

Opis:
We measured the Seebeck coefficient of P-doped ultrathin silicon-on-insulator (SOI) layers with thicknesses of 6-100 nm. The dependence of the coefficient on the impurity concentration was investigated, and was shown to be in good agreement with that of bulk Si. In addition, it was found to decrease with increasing impurity concentration, as is usual in semiconductor materials. However, for doping levels above 3.5x1019 cm-3, the Seebeck coefficient was observed to increase. This is likely to be due to the influence of an impurity band.

Opis:
One of critical factor in determining the performance of solar cells is the morphology of the active layer. The drying process of the active layer prepared by inkjet printing technique plays a key role in obtaining high quality surface morphology. This paper reports the effect of thermal annealing on the morphology of printed active layer. The printed active layer is a blend of poly(3-octylthiophene-2,5-diyl) and (6,6)-phenyl $C_{71}$ butyric acid methyl ester dissolved in a mixture of dichlorobenzene:mesitylene. The printed films were then annealed at three different temperatures, namely 120, 140, and 160C for 60 min to obtain the best performance of solar cells. It was found that the performance of solar cells strongly depends on the annealing temperature. The devices with the active layer annealed at 140C exhibits the highest performance with short circuit current density and open circuit voltage as high as 2.88 μA/$cm^2$ and 0.85 V, respectively. The effect of annealing on the properties of printed active layer will be discussed.

Opis:
This paper reports a study on the surface plasmon effect of Ag nanoplates on electroluminescent property of polymer light emitting diodes. The diode is a single layer light emitting device made of poly [9,9-di-(2-ethylhexyl)-fluorenyl-2,7-diyl] (PEHF). 5 wt.% of Ag nanoplates were incorporated into the PEHF layer. The results showed that the electroluminescence intensity of the diodes is increased by 51.85%, compared with the device without the Ag nanoplates. The enhancement is due to the coupling process between the Ag surface plasmon with the emission light from the PEHF. The occurrence of the coupling process was proved firstly based on the fact that the exciton lifetime of the PEHF:Ag layer is shorter than that without Ag, as measured by time-resolved photoluminescence spectroscopy. Secondly, the PEHF photoluminescence peak at 425 nm is overlaping with the surface plasmon absorption peak of Ag nanoplates.

Opis:
Bombardment with high energy particles and photons can cause potential hazards to the electronic systems. These effects range from degradation of performance to functional failure, which can affect the operation of a system. Such failures become increasingly likely as electronic components are getting more sophisticated, while decreasing in size and tending to a larger integration. In this paper, the effects of X-ray irradiation on a plastic encapsulated infrared light emitting diode, coupled to a plastic encapsulated silicon infrared phototransistor, with both of them being electrically isolated at ON and OFF modes, are investigated. All the devices are exposed to a total dose of up to 1000 mAs. The electrical parameters of the optoelectronic devices during the radiation exposure and at post-irradiation are compared to the pre-irradiation readings. The findings show that the highest degradation occurs at low dose of exposure; beyond 100 mAs the relative decrease in collector current of the phototransistor is gradually reduced. The most remarkable feature found, is the operational dependence of the bias collector current, indicating a higher degradation for low bias forward current of the light emitting diode. The degradation induced at the forward current of the light emitting diode by X-rays irradiation is almost negligible whereas a decrease of the rate of change in current transfer ratio is significant during the X-ray irradiation. The results show that there is no significant difference between current transfer ratio of ON mode and OFF mode radiation. It is observed that the operating mode of the optoelectronic devices after exposure to 1000 mAs of X-ray irradiation contributes no major variation in the degree of damage.

Opis:
Dolomite can be used as a source of aluminosilicate to produce geopolymers; however, this approach is limited by its low reactivity. This study analyzes the viability of producing geopolymers using dolomite/fly-ash with sodium silicate and NaOH solutions (at multiple concentrations) by determining the resultant geopolymers’ compressive strengths. The dolomite/fly-ash-based geopolymers at a NaOH concentration of ~22 M resulted in an optimum compressive strength of 46.38 MPa after being cured for 28 days, and the SEM and FTIR analyses confirmed the denser surface of the geopolymer matrix. The synchrotron micro-XRF analyses confirmed that the Ca concentration exceeded that of Si and Mg, leading to the formation of calcium silicate hydrate, which strengthens the resulting geopolymers.

Opis:
TiO2 is one of the most widely used metal oxide semiconductors in the field of photocatalysis for the self-cleaning purpose to withdraw pollutants. Polyethylene glycol (PEG) is recommended as a stabilizer and booster during preparation of water-soluble TiO2. Preparation of SnO2/TiO2 thin film deposition on the surface of ceramic tile was carried out by the sol-gel spin coating method by adding different amount of PEG (0g, 0.2g, 0.4g, 0.6g, 0.8g) during the preparation of the sol precursor. The effects of PEG content and the annealing temperature on the phase composition, crystallite size and the hydrophilic properties of SnO2/TiO2 films were studied. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) spectra revealed different phases existed when the films were annealed at different annealing temperatures of 350°C, 550°C and 750°C with 0.4 g of PEG addition. The crystallite sizes of the films were measured using Scherrer equation. It shows crystallite size was dependent on crystal structure existed in the films. The films with mixed phases of brookite and rutile shows the smallest crystallite size. In order to measure the hydrophilicity properties of films, the water contact angles for each film with different content of PEG were measured. It can be observed that the water contact angle decreased with the increasing of the content of PEG. It shows the superhydrophilicity properties for the films with the 0.8 g of PEG annealed at 750°C. This demonstrates that the annealed temperature and the addition of PEG affect the phase composition and the hydrophilicity properties of the films.
