    Opis:
    One of the main problems that were to be faced during the post-war era was educating new commanding personnel for the purposes of the Polish people’s army. The educational programmes and aims, which were being carried out at Polish military schools were imposed by the socialist system as well as a dynamic political situation in Poland. The very first post-war years were stigmatized by strong Soviet influence, which impacted both the organization of military educational system as well as the process of bringing up the army which was taking part in the mentioned institutions. Just as the reality was changing, so was the point of view at the education of a Polish officer. In the given paper educational activity present at military schools was showed, based on four main Polish military schools: The Naval Academy (Akademia Marynarki Wojennej), The National Defence Academy (Akademia Obrony Narodowej), Military Technical Academy (Wojskowa Akademia Techiczna) and Military Political Academy (Wojskowa Akademia Polityczna), from the end of World War II to the 1990’s.

    The Baltic Sea
    Opis:
    Successful preliminary archival research in Russian Naval National Archives in St. Petersburg (RGAVMF) was conducted by the author in 201. It concerned the period between the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century, was a result of making archive materials available, however, only up to 1917. Based on the available sources, one can state that the general situation concerning navigational security of shipping in the regions of the Gulf of Finland and the Gulf of Bothnia in the times of Russian Empire, up to 1918, was complicated because Finnish land, between 1809–1917, formed Grand Duchy of Finland, an autonomous part of the Russian Empire. Due to this situation, the safety navigational regulations in the region were based on Russian law. Lightships and lighthouses of the described regions had Russian names. It was not until Finland was separated from Russia when the original, Finnish, names of navigational signs, written in Latin alphabet were introduced. The lightships shown in the monograph have both Russian and Finnish names written in Cyrillic alphabet. Some of the vessels are also present among Finnish lighthouses but have different names. A similar situation occurs when describing Estonian and Latvian lightships, which belonged to those countries between 1920–1939 but, apart from that period, belonged to Russian and Soviet governments.

    Gdynia, the city born from the sea, is a place where one of the bringing up methods, right since the city was founded, has been so-called naval upbringing. It has been realized in Gdynia’s sailing clubs throughout teaching of both sports and recreational sailing – an offer aimed at the youth. When Poland regained its independence in 1918, a decision was made to build a modern Polish Baltic port – Gdynia and so the rising of naval awareness among the Polish society was activated. The content connected with the naval economy, the sea, education as well as naval upbringing appeared in all actions aimed at the Polish society. Neither The Second World War, nor the difficult post war years did not cease the naval upbringing. Since the very first post war days, not only was the yacht marina began to be built, but also sailing life and culture were reactivated. Polish Yachting Association, or the Scout Maritime Center, later on re-named to become the National Naval Upbringing Center were founded. The naval upbringing, despite many obstacles connected with Poland’s politically and economically unstable history, has been non-stop realized until today. In the article an attempt was made to show that cultivating the naval customs and culture by the older generations of seamen and passing them on to the youth has had an impact on raising modern citizens. While doing the research, methods of literature study and interview were used.

    Opis:
    The safety of navigation in the Baltic and the North Sea was an important issue for the Prussian state, especially since large funds appeared after winning the war with France at the end of the 19th century. Thus, not only were lightvessels built and placed in places dangerous for navigation, but also lighthouses, shore rescue stations, etc. Shipyards located in the North Sea and Baltic Sea regions were involved in the construction of lightvessels. The Kaiserliche Werft Danzig shipyard, known for the production of war-ships, received an order to build as many as 7 lightvessels in the years 1871-1904. They were succes-sively named: Aussen Jade, Minsener Sand, Adlergrund I, Adlergrund II, Stollergrund I, Stollergrund II, and Bülk. They were exhibited in various places also during the war. Brief assessments of the ships mentioned are included in this study. 
    Artykuł prezentuje niewielki fragment wyniku wieloletnich badań autorów dotyczących bezpieczeństwa że-glugi. Bezpieczeństwo żeglugi na Bałtyku i Morzu Północnym było dla prężnie rozwijającego się państwa pruskiego sprawą niezmiernie ważną. Dzięki kontrybucji wojennej, którą Prusy otrzymały po wygranej woj-nie z Francją pod koniec XIX wieku, a tym samym pojawieniu się dużych środków pieniężnych, część z nich została przeznaczona na zabezpieczenie żeglugi. Budowano nie tylko statki latarniowe i wystawiano je w miejscach niebezpiecznych żeglugowo, ale również wznoszono latarnie morskie, stacje ratownictwa brzegowego itp. Budową latarniowców zajmowały się stocznie zlokalizowane w rejonie Morza Północnego, jak i Bałtyku. Znana z produkcji okrętów wojennych gdańska stocznia Kaiserliche Werft Danzig otrzymała również zamówienie na zbudowanie aż 7 latarniowców w latach 1871–1904. Były to jednostki o nazwach kolejno: Aussen Jade, Minsener Sand, Adlergrund I, Adlergrund II, Stollergrund I, Stollergrund I i Bülk. Wystawiano je na różnych pozycjach morskich nie tylko w czasach pokoju, ale również w okresie wojny. Krótkie charakterystyki i oceny wymienionych statków latarniowych zabezpieczających szlaki żeglugowe w owym czasie są zawarte w niniejszym opracowaniu.

    For more than ten years, the European direction of higher education transformation is outlined by the Bologna Process. The main purpose of the research was to find out about students’ opinions concerning fulfilling of the Process’ guidelines. In order to carry out the research, an auditorium questionnaire method was chosen. Thanks to the given research sample, it was possible to have a representative group of students varying in terms of universities (Polish Naval Academy (AMW), Medical University of Gdańsk (GUMED)), specificity of studies (full-time, extramural), degree (BA, MA), department (nursing, midwifery, national security, internal domestic security, pedagogy). A total number of respondents was 598. An obtained research material constitutes a source of information helping to asset students’ readiness and openness towards the proposed system transformations. Among the following instruments of the Bologna Process: a multi-staged studies’ mode, ECTS points, a diploma supplement, students’ mobility and the activity of Accreditation Commission, the positive opinions concerned students’ mobility, the activity of Accreditation Commission and multi-staged studies’ mode mostly. According to the statistics, the Polish Naval Academy students formulate opinions that multi-staged studies prolong the process of education and are the source of extra responsibilities (connected with BA writing and defense). GUMED’s students are positive about ECTS points and diploma supplements. Looking at the statistics, women are visibly more positive about students’ mobility and exchange as they allow to get to know and understand different cultures, whereas men put on emphasis on an unclear criteria of giving ECTS points. The obtained research material was analyzed using a statistics package SPSS 20 and a Microsoft Excel 2010 spread sheet.

    In the following paper the authors try to present a vision of building a series of modern, fast, well-armed polish torpedo boats. A valuable addition to this study is the relationship of officers and non-commissioned officers, who served for such units. The authors also point to the factors not implemented and the failures of the project. The see the reason for the absence of design and construction regulations, and the absence of receipts similar ships by the Polish Navy and polish shipyards. They also point to the political and economic overtones.

    W artykule zaprezentowano efekty kilkuletnich badań nad problematyką powstania, eksploatacji i specyfiki funkcjonowania bałtyckich statków latarniowych – przydatnych przy braku stacjonarnych latarni morskich na szlakach żeglugowych. Statki, o których mowa były charakterystycznymi znakami żeglugowymi Danii, Szwecji, Finlandii, Rosji i Niemiec na przełomie XI i XX wieku. Specyfika użytkowania jednostek, nazywanych też latarniowcami, wymagała zastosowania w badaniach metod badawczych, takich jak analiza i synteza historyczna, indukcja i metoda geograficzna. Prezentowane treści są jedynie częścią skandynawskich problemów, jakie powstały w trakcie eksploatacji opisywanych specyficznych jednostek. Materiały archiwalne związane z działalnością statków latarniowych autorzy pozyskali dzięki kwerendzie w niemieckich, szwedzkich i rosyjskich archiwach państwowych.
    The study presents results of several years of research into the issues of the creation, opera- tion and specificity of the operation of Baltic lightvessels – useful at the time of the lack of stationary lighthouses on shipping routes. The described ships were characteristic shipping marks of Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Russia and Germany at the turn of the 11th and 20th centuries. The specificity of the units, also called lightships, required the use of research methods such as historical analysis and synthesis, induction and geographical method. The presented paper is only a part of the Scandinavian problems that arose during the oper- ation of the specific entities described. A number of scientific papers have been delivered at both national and international conferences. Archival materials related to the operation of lightships were acquired by the authors in the German, Swedish and Russian state archives.

    W artykule ukazano ważność dróg wodnych prowadzących do Szczecina – ważnego portu przeładunkowego towarów transportowanych drogami śródlądowymi i morskimi. Rozwój handlu i spory ruch żeglugowy na trasie Bałtyk–Szczecin wymusiły na władzach modernizację portu morskiego w Świnoujściu, podejścia do tego portu oraz dróg wodnych prowadzących do Szczecina. Modernizacja portu i dróg wodnych przebiegała etapami i była związana z rozwojem różnorodnych znaków nawigacyjnych, które zapewniały odpowiedni poziom bezpieczeństwa żeglugi. Z drugiej strony polityka żeglugowa zmierzała do dopuszczenia do żeglugi na trasie Świnoujście–Szczecin statków o większym tonażu, a tym samym o większym zanurzeniu. Ten proces wymuszał konieczność okresowego pogłębiania głównego toru wodnego. W rezultacie tych i innych działań kompleks portowy Świnoujście-Szczecin stał się jednym z ważniejszych węzłów tego typu na południowym Bałtyku. Konkurował on z węzłami Piława-Królewiec i kompleksem portowym Gdańska.
