Opis:
A high-resolution spectroscopic system for the measurements of the CIII triplet at 465 nm was installed at the COMPASS tokamak. The Doppler broadening and shift of the measured spectral lines are used to calculate the edge ion temperature and poloidal plasma rotation. At first, the spectroscopic system based on two-grating spectrometer and the calibration procedure is described. The signal processing including detection and removal of spiky features in the signal caused by hard X-rays based on the difference in the behaviour of Savitzky-Golay and median filters is explained. The detection and position estimation of individual spectral lines based on the continuous wavelet transform is shown. The method of fitting of Gaussians using the orthogonal distance regression and estimation of the error of estimation of the rotation velocity and ion temperature is described. At the end, conclusions about the performance of the spectroscopic system and its shortcomings based on summary of results calculated from 2033 processed spectral lines measured in 61 shots are drawn and the possible enhancements are suggested.

Opis:
The objective of this work is to investigate the influence of slotted air gap constructive parameters on magnetic flux density of rotating machines. For this purpose, different approaches were used to solve the air gap field diagram using finite element method and the magnetic field distribution uniformity was evaluated by Carter's factor calculation on two-dimensional and three-dimensional models. Sensitivity analysis of slot constructive parameters was performed and results show that slot geometry modifies the magnetic flux on air gap and shifts the air gap magnetic equipotential midline of double slotted machines. Finally, minimization of Carter’s factor on two-dimensional model presents an optimized slot geometry with a near uniform magnetic flux density distribution.

Opis:
Viscoelastic materials have been widely used as devices for vibration control in general. Frequently, dynamic properties of those materials are provided by manufacturers only in a graph form in the frequency domain. This is a recurring problem in industry and academia. Thereby, the goal of this work is to contribute to this important issue which is to obtain the properties of viscoelastic materials from nomograms supplied by the manufacturer. The methodology is based on the digitalization of the nomogram of the material and on the subsequent reading of a set of points from two curves in different temperatures. An optimization problem with simple restrictions is built having characteristic constants of the constitutive models as design variables. The problem is solved by applying a hybrid optimization technique. The results obtained are presented, and prove to be very promising.

Background Virtual reality (VR) has the potential to be a powerful tool in promoting empathy towards inclusion, particularly for individuals with impairments such as mobility difficulties, vision deficits, or autism but also about pregnancy, which can create temporary difficulties. By immersing users in simulated environments that replicate the experiences of those with different abilities, VR can create a sense of understanding and empathy for those who face challenges in their daily lives. For example, VR experiences can simulate the experience of navigating space as someone with a mobility impairment, providing a new perspective and appreciation for the difficulties that others face. Similarly, VR experiences can simulate the experience of vision impairment, pregnancy, or autism, providing a window into the challenges faced by those with these conditions and fostering empathy and understanding. Material and Methods During the development of this study, field experts were consulted to ensure the robustness of the methods employed. Then, questionnaires were specifically developed to explore disabilities and challenges related to inclusion and were administered to a large population. Additionally, guided interviews were conducted with individuals who possess specific impairments to gather first-hand insights. Results The results obtained from the questionnaires and interviews provide a comprehensive overview of the inclusion challenges that necessitate attention and resolution. By drawing on the expertise of both experts and individuals with lived experiences, a holistic landscape of inclusion challenges has been established. Conclusions The VR emerges as a powerful tool for promoting inclusion and fostering understanding among individuals. Its capacity to create immersive experiences that facilitate empathy has the potential to reshape society into a more compassionate and empathetic one. By leveraging the unique capabilities of VR, we can bridge the gap between different perspectives, fostering greater understanding, acceptance, and inclusivity.

Opis:
In transport and, particularly in the case of the present study, naval industries, one of the major objectives of research on wear and friction is focused principally on solid lubrication. In the following paper, the tribological behaviors of two well-known, different cast irons, lamellar grey iron (EN-GJL-250) and spheroidal graphite ductile iron (EN-GJS-400), are compared and the results are analyzed. For each material's family, the surfaces’ properties are characterized at different stages of the machining process. The particular influence of diverse feed rates in a turning facing is evaluated. Moreover, some tests of the laser cladding process, which contribute to the improvement of superficial properties, are carried out; therefore, the initial morphology before surface treatment is carefully characterized and evaluated in the context of subsequent adhesion qualification. The final goal of the study is to deliver feasible initial information concerning two similar cast irons that are traditionally used in the naval industry, which would be manufactured and employed in the future as dry lubricated bearings

Opis:
During the past 50 years, scintillators have been among the most important nuclear radiation detectors. Inorganic scintillators are widely used in experimental nuclear physics, high energy physics, nuclear medicine, nuclear tomography, environmental studies and many other fields of use. Scintillation crystals based on cesium iodide (CsI) are matters of relatively low hygroscopy, high atomic number, easy handling and low cost, characteristics that favor their use as radiation detectors. In this work, the growth of pure CsI crystals, CsI:Br and CsI:Pb, using the Bridgman technique, is described. Ions of divalent lead (Pb2+) doped in the crystal structures are efficient emission centers and their application as scintillators is still the reason for intensive studies. Recently, promising results have been found for crystals of CsI doped by bromine (Br) for their use as radiation detectors. The concentration of the bromine doping element (Br) was studied in the range from 1.5 × 10–1 M to 10–2 M and the lead (Pb) in the range from 10–2 M to 5 × 10–4 M. To evaluate the scintillators developed, systematic measurements were carried out for luminescence emission and luminescence decay time for gamma radiation, Vickers microhardness assays, and analysis of crystals response to the gamma radiation, in the energy range from 350 keV to 1330 keV, and alpha particles from a 241Am source, with energy of 5.54 MeV. The obtained values for luminescence decay time for CsI:Br and CsI:Pb crystals, were from 13 to 19 ns.

Opis:
Porównano trzy różne stężenia GG: 0,7; 1,2 i 1,6%.
Enzymatic mineralization of hydrogels is a promising approach to obtain new materials for the treatment of bone tissue defects. Thanks to creation of calcium phosphates (CaP) inside the material, the hydrogel becomes more rigid and therefore more suitable for bone tissue replacement. In this study, gellan gum (GG) hydrogels containing the enzyme alkaline phosphatase (ALP, 0.5 mg/ml) were mineralized by incubation in mineralization solutions of calcium glycerophosphate (CaGP). Three different concentrations of GG were compared: 0.7, 1.2 and 1.6% (w/v). In order to assess amount of CaP formed, dry mass percentage was calculated while distribution of mineral phase was observed by light microscopy. Mechanical tests in compression mode were also carried out. Osteoblast-like MG-63 cells were cultured for 1 and 7 days on the surface and cross-sections of mineralized and non-mineralized samples. Viability of cells was measured by live/dead staining. Mechanical testing revealed that Young’s modulus of mineralized hydrogels was much higher than unmineralized hydrogels. However, this increase was not particularly pronounced for samples of higher GG content. Due to ALP leaching, the distribution of minerals was inhomogeneous: most of the mineral phase was formed inside the material. The presence of CaP in mineralized samples promoted attachment, spreading and viability of MG-63 cells.
