Opis:
We use a variational method to construct soliton solutions for systems characterized by opposing dispersion and competing nonlinearities at fundamental and second harmonics. We show that both ordinary and embedded solitons tend to gain energy when the second harmonic field becomes weaker than the first harmonic field.

Opis:
A set D of vertices in a graph G is a dominating set of G if every vertex outside D is adjacent in G to some vertex in D. A set D of vertices in G is a semitotal dominating set of G if D is a dominating set of G and every vertex in D is within distance 2 from another vertex of D. Given a graph G and a positive integer k, the semitotal domination problem is to decide whether G has a semitotal dominating set of cardinality at most k. The semitotal domination problem is known to be NP-complete for chordal graphs and bipartite graphs as shown in [M.A. Henning and A. Pandey, Algorithmic aspects of semitotal domination in graphs, Theoret. Comput. Sci. 766 (2019) 46–57]. In this paper, we present a linear time algorithm to compute a minimum semitotal dominating set in block graphs. On the other hand, we show that the semitotal domination problem remains NP-complete for undirected path graphs.

Opis:
This paper proposes a fair calculation approach for the cost and emission of generators. Generators also have reactive power requirements along with the active power demand to meet up the total power demand. In this paper, firstly the reactive power is calculated considering the random active power operating points on the capability curve of a generator then the cost for reactive power generation as well as emission are calculated. In order to develop the mathematical function for the reactive power cost and reactive power emission, a curve-fitting technique is applied, which gives the generalised reactive power cost and reactive power emission functions. At the end, the problem is formulated as a multiobjective problem, considering conflicting objectives such as combined activereactive economic dispatch and combined active-reactive emission dispatch. The problem is converted from the multiobjective load dispatch problem (MOLDP) into a scalar problem, using the weighting method and the best compromised solution has been calculated using the particle swarm optimization (PSO) technique. A fuzzy cardinal method has been applied to choose the best solution. In order to demonstrate the efficiency of developed functions the proposed method is applied on a 3 generator unit system and a 10 generator unit system, the results obtained show its validity and effectiveness.

Opis:
In this study, silicon carbide (SiC) reinforced lead-free solder (SAC305) was prepared by the powder metallurgy method. In this method SAC305 powder and SiC powder were milled, compressed and sintered to prepare composite solder. The composite solders were characterized by optical and scanning electron microscopy for the microstructural investigation and mechanical test. Addition of 1.5 wt.% and 2 wt.% ceramic reinforcement to the composite increased compressive strengths and microhardness up to 38% and 68% compared to those of the monolithic sample. In addition, the ceramic particles caused an up to 55% decrease in the wetting angle between the substrate and the composite solder and porosity was always increased with increase of SiC particles.

Opis:
This paper presents a mathematical model of a power controller for a high-frequency induction heating system based on a modified half-bridge series resonant inverter. The output real power is precise over the heating coil, and this real power is processed as a feedback signal that contends a closed-loop topology with a proportional-integral-derivative controller. This technique enables both control of the closed-loop power and determination of the stability of the high-frequency inverter. Unlike the topologies of existing power controllers, the proposed topology enables direct control of the real power of the high-frequency inverter.

Opis:
The wool harvesting industry employs workers of varying skill levels that differ in both quality and number of harvested fleeces. As it was unknown how skill affected parameters such as joint posture and loading, the current study comparatively examined 140 wool harvesting workers representing 4 skill levels during wool harvesting competitions. Three-dimensional upper limb postures and peak and cumulative shoulder moments were calculated for each worker. Results indicated that elite wool harvesters, in general, used different shoulder postures to perform the harvesting tasks and were thus exposed to different shoulder moments as compared to the lower skill levels. It is plausible that these adopted postures allow the higher class workers to perform their job with higher quality and greater speed as compared to the lower ranked workers. Postural-based training may help improve technique in lower ranked workers and enable these workers to achieve higher ranked status.

Opis:
Soil temperature is an important factor in biogeochemical processes. On-site monitoring of soil temperature is limited in spatio-temporal scale as compared to air temperature data inventories due to various management difficulties. Therefore, empirical models were developed by taking 30-year long-term (1985-2014) air and soil temperature data for prediction of soil temperatures at three depths (5, 15, 30 cm) in morning (0636 Indian standard time) and afternoon (1336 Indian standard time) for alluvial soils in lower Indo-Gangetic plain. At 5 cm depth, power and exponential regression models were best fitted for daily data in morning and afternoon, respectively, but it was reverse at 15 cm. However, at 30 cm, exponential models were best fitted for both the times. Regression analysis revealed that in morning for all three depths and in afternoon for 30 cm depth, soil temperatures (daily, weekly, and monthly) could be predicted more efficiently with the help of corresponding mean air temperature than that of maximum and minimum. However, in afternoon, prediction of soil temperature at 5 and 15 cm depths were more precised for all the time intervals when maximum air temperature was used, except for weekly soil temperature at 15 cm, where the use of mean air temperature gave better prediction.
