    Zamieszanie terminologiczne, chęć podjęcia terapii w momencie nazwania trudności i utrudniony dostęp do terapii neurobiologicznej nie są czynnikami sprzyjającymi wyrównaniu deficytów komunikacyjnych, językowych i poznawczych w przypadku dzieci z afazją dziecięcą. Autorki przedstawiają wyniki swoich badań i opisują trudności dzieci uczestniczących w terapii neurobiologicznej. Prezentują także wyniki badań dzieci bez diagnozy zaburzeń komunikacji językowej, aby zwrócić uwagę na zadania językowe, które przysparzają najwięcej trudności. Znalazły się wśród nich ćwiczenia sekwencji słuchowych. Stanowi to dla badaczek punkt wyjścia do istotnych konkluzji terapeutycznych.
    Terminological confusion, readiness for therapy at the time of naming difficulties and difficult access to neurobiological therapy are not conducive factors for compensating communication, language and cognitive deficits in children with infantile aphasia. The authors present the results of their research and describe the difficulties of children participating in neurobiological therapy. They also present the results of studies with children without a diagnosis of a speech communication disorder to draw attention to the language tasks that cause the most difficulties. These included listening sequence exercises. This is the starting point for researchers to draw important therapeutic conclusions.

    Streszczenie Dzięki ogromnemu postępowi wiedzy i technologiom medycznym ratuje się obecnie skrajnie niedojrzałe noworodki. Przedwczesne zakończenie ciąży stanowi poważny problem, szczególnie w aspekcie dalszych losów dziecka. W praktyce logopedycznej spotykamy się coraz częściej z problemami dotykającymi dzieci przedwcześnie urodzone, dotyczącymi między innymi dysfunkcji analizatorów zmysłów, ale i uogólnionej dysharmonii rozwoju, co w istotny sposób przekłada się na funkcjonowanie poznawcze, a w konsekwencji na proces nabywania języka. Wcześniaki wymagają jak najwcześniejszej diagnostyki oraz stymulacji jako profilaktyki zaburzeń poznawczych i komunikacyjnych. Połączenie wczesnej interwencji medycznej i wczesnej stymulacji lub w skrajnych przypadkach konsekwentnie prowadzonej terapii neurobiologicznej, zdaje się mieć największy wpływ na szanse rozwojowe i jakość życia tej grupy dzieci i ich rodzin. Długofalowe monitorowanie rozwoju dziecka przedwcześnie urodzonego również w aspekcie rozwoju poznawczego (w tym językowego) wydaje się być szansą na osiągnięcie sukcesu edukacyjnego każdego wcześniaka.
    Summary Thanks to tremendous advances in knowledge and medical technology, extremely immature newborns are now being saved. Premature termination of pregnancy is a serious problem, especially in terms of the child’s subsequent fate. In speech therapy practice, we increasingly encounter problems affecting children born prematurely, including dysfunction of the sensory analyzers but also generalized developmental disharmony, which significantly affects cognitive functioning and, consequently, the process of language acquisition. Premature babies require the earliest possible diagnosis and stimulation as prevention of cognitive and communication disorders. A combination of early medical intervention and early stimulation or, in extreme cases, consistently administered neurobiological therapy , seems to have the greatest impact on the developmental chances and quality of life of this group of children and their families. Long-term monitoring of the development of the premature child also in terms of cognitive development (including language) seems to be an opportunity for the educational success of any premature child.

    Opis:
    The enormous progress of knowledge and medical technologies allows now to rescue extremely immature newborns, i.e. those weighing less than 1000 g, born of a pregnancy with a duration of less than 28 weeks. The prevalence of premature babies weighing 1,000–1,500 g from a pregnancy lasting 28–32 weeks is about 1% in Poland. Premature termination of pregnancy is a serious problem, especially in the aspect of the future fate of the child. Threats, however, are subject to some evolution along with the advancement of pregnancy. The diseases and complications of the neonatal period, being an important element affecting the prognosis as to the life and health of the baby born prematurely, include brain damage, breathing disorders, circulatory disorders, digestive disorders and irregularities within the sensory organs. Speech therapists face more and more often problems affecting prematurely born children concerning the dysfunction of sensory analyzers, which in a significant way translates into cognitive functioning and, consequently, the process of language acquisition. Premature babies require diagnostics and stimulation as prevention of cognitive and communication disorders should be implemented as soon as possible. The combination of early medical intervention and early stimulation or, in extreme cases, of consistently conducted neurobiological therapy seems to have the greatest impact on the developmental chances of the quality of life of this group of children and their families.
    Dzięki ogromnemu postępowi wiedzy i technologiom medycznym ratuje się obecnie skrajnie niedojrzałe noworodki – nawet te o masie ciała poniżej 1000 g, urodzone z ciąży o czasie trwania krótszym niż 28 tygodni. Częstość urodzeń wcześniaków o masie ciała 1000–1500 g z ciąży trwającej 28–32 tygodnie wynosi w Polsce około 1%. Przedwczesne zakończenie ciąży stanowi poważny problem, szczególnie w aspekcie dalszych losów dziecka. Zagrożenia podlegają jednak pewnej ewolucji wraz z zaawansowaniem ciąży. Do powikłań okresu noworodkowego, będących istotnym elementem wpływającym na rokowania dotyczące życia i zdrowia noworodka urodzonego przedwcześnie, należą: uszkodzenia mózgu, zaburzenia oddychania, krążenia, zaburzenia pokarmowe, nieprawidłowości w obrębie narządów zmysłów. W praktyce logopedycznej spotykamy się coraz częściej z problemami dotykającymi dzieci przedwcześnie urodzonych, dotyczącymi między innymi dysfunkcji analizatorów zmysłów, co w istotny sposób przekłada się na funkcjonowanie poznawcze, a w konsekwencji na proces nabywania języka. Wcześniaki wymagają jak najwcześniejszej diagnostyki oraz stymulacji jako profilaktyki zaburzeń poznawczych i komunikacyjnych. Połączenie wczesnej interwencji medycznej i wczesnej stymulacji lub w skrajnych przypadkach konsekwentnie prowadzonej terapii neurobiologicznej zdaje się mieć największy wpływ na szanse rozwojowe i jakość życia tej grupy dzieci i ich rodzin.

    The 21 st Congress of the Polish Neuropsychological Society, entitled Neuropsychology and Neurologopedics: brain and language in the process of learning the world, was held at the Pedagogical University of Krakow between 30 November and 1 December 2018. During the two-day meeting many new issues were raised of the latest results of psychological, medical and speech therapy research in treatment of a patient with brain dysfunctions. The sessions were summarized during a discussion panel. The Congress was received with great interest by both scholars and therapists (psychologists, speech/language therapists, pedagogists) and teachers from all over Poland. The president of the Polish Neuropsychological Society, Prof. Maria Pąchalska, awarded the highest prizes award of the society for the outstanding contribution in neuropsyhology, that is: 1. Copernicus Prize 2018 with a bronze figure made by the sculptor artist prof. Józef Wąsacz from the Drawing, Painting and Sculpture Department, Faculty of Architecture, Tadeusz Kościuszko University of Technology, Krakow, Poland. To date, the Society has honored this award with 506 scientists from around the World, including Nobel Prize winner Prof. Stanley B. Prusiner with Copernicus Prize 2010. 2. Virtuti Medicinali 2018 diplomas for outstanding therapeutic and organizational work promoting the development of society. A General Meeting of the Polish Neuropsychological Society was held after two fruitful days of sessions and scientific discussions.

    The article characterises Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders as a holistic developmen- tal disorder, emphasising the importance of communication difficulties, both verbal and non-verbal. By pointing successively to the pathological changes in the anatomy and the functioning of individual parts of the CNS, the authors draw attention to the aspects of the impaired development of a child with FASD (FAS, PFAS, ND-PAE, FAS without confirmed prenatal alcohol exposure) and the possibility of providing support through proper programming of the therapeutic process while taking into consider- ation neurobiological knowledge. In the therapeutic work with a child affected by fetal alcohol syndrome, the starting point should be the identification of the child’s strengths rather than deficits. These children require holistic therapy, thanks to which it is pos- sible to eliminate the health, communication and also social problems. The authors present the methods of overall development interactions with the aim of creating the foundations of the language.

    The article presents relations between language development and cognitive functions in children with FASD. The authors characterise particular cognitive functions connected with perception, processing and storage of information as well as control and self-regulation of behaviour. They write about linguistic knowledge as closely coexisting with other cognitive functions. The authors also emphasise two things. First, the fact that the quality of cognitive, social and emotional functioning of a child depends equally on the harmonious development of perception, motor, language, mental and social skills, and second: the knowledge of the specificity of cognitive development, which is reflected in the language development, can be helpful in making a diagnosis and preparing a therapeutic program for children with FASD.
