Opis:
Background. The effects of a two-year educational Programme “Keep Balance” addressed to children and adolescents have been evaluated. Its purpose has been to implement the rules of proper nutrition and increasing the level of physical activity on the population level. Objective. The main objective of the evaluation was an indication if, after two years of programme activities, outcome indicators have been achieved. Material and methods. Approximately 400,000 pupils/students from 1600 educational units from the territory of the whole country have been included in the education programme. The efficiency evaluation has been carried out in a sample of n = 1506 pupils/students in the interventional group and n = 1589 in the control group. Education has been addressed to the entire school environment, pupils, students, parents, teachers, headmasters, and the local community. The survey methodology, body weight and height measurements, the BMI index, and EUROFIT physical fitness tests have been used to assess the effects of the education programme in the scope of knowledge and nutritional behaviour regarding physical activity. There were assumed outcome indicators. The certification of schools/kindergartens with “The Certificate of a School/Kindergarten Friendly to Nutrition and Physical Activity” has been used to evaluate the activation of school environments. Results. There was an improvement achieved over the assumed target points in the level of knowledge of pupils/students in the scope of nutrition and the role of physical activity, in the changes of nutritional habits, and in the results of physical fitness tests. There were achieved 20% increase in knowledge in the scope of nutrition and 5% increase in physical activity. There have been changes in the frequency in the consumption of the first breakfast before going to school (by 25% among the younger ones and by 17% among the older ones), an increase in the consumption of bottled water by 49% and reduction of sweet drinks by 19%. The percentage of the pupils/students consuming the recommended 5 meals increased by 33%. Physical fitness indicators were achieved over assumed 5% increase in the individual exercise tests. The Certificate was obtained after meeting the criteria and documenting the durability of the changes by 65% of 1600 educational units included in the Programme. A decrease in the frequency of overweight and obesity occurrence in the whole intervention sample by 1% was obtained; it was greater (but statistically insignificant) among younger students by 3.3% in comparison to the older ones where there was an increase of 1%. Conclusions. Summing up all achieved results the educational programme “Keep Balance” implemented on the population level aimed at children and adolescents has turned out to be effective and deserves to be continued after minor adjustments. Many positive changes have been identified as well as those that ought to be improved. Comprehensively included education and sometimes small changes in much of nutritional and physical behaviour have influenced the reduction of the percentage of pupils/students with excessive body weight, despite the fact that the average BMI has basically remained on the same level.

Opis:
The objective of this study was to determine the influence of 20-year sprinkler irrigation of permanent grassland with potato starch and brewery wastewater on the botanical composition of sward, and the yield and nutritional value of hay. The experiment was carried out in Kupiski-Jednaczewo, near Łomża, NE Poland (approximately 600 ha). Potato starch and brewery effluents were mixed at a ratio of 1:0.4. Wastewater was applied in autumn and after the first harvest, at an annual dose of 200-300 mm. The analyzed wastewater contained on average (mg dm-3): N – 223, P – 48, K – 285, Ca – 80, Mg – 46 and Na – 68. The floristic composition of meadow sward was determined before the first harvest in 1998, 2003, 2008, 2013 and 2018, while the yield was determined on trial plots. Five major floristic types of grassland communities were identified based on the percentage of dominant species (above 20% share of the sward). Herbage samples were collected for botanical-gravimetric and chemical analyses. Soil samples were collected in 1991 and 2018. Chemical analyses of soil and plant material were performed by standard methods. The following floristic types of grassland communities developed: Alopecurus pratensis (Ap), Arrhenatherum elatius (Ae), Dactylis glomerata + Festuca rubra (Dg+Fr), and Poa pratensis + Dactylis glomerata (Pp+Dg), Phalaris arundinacea + Glyceria maxima (Pha+Gm), and the Festuca rubra + Anthoxanthum odoratum (Fr+Ao) community in the control treatment (non-irrigated grassland). The content of P, K, Fe, Cu, Mn and Zn increased, whereas the content of Ca, Mg and Na, and pH levels decreased in the analyzed soils. Regardless of the floristic type of sward, the yield of grassland irrigated with wastewater was significantly (1.6 to 2.8-fold) higher than the yield of non-irrigated grassland. Hay harvested from wastewater-irrigated meadows met the nutrient requirements of animals in terms of crude fiber, ash and fat, excluding total protein.

Opis:
The aim of this study was to determine the effect of 20-year-long irrigation of permanent grasslands with potato starch and brewery wastewater on the botanical composition of sward, yield and nutritional value of hay. The experiment was conducted in the center for wastewater treatment and use in Mątwica-Kupiski (668 ha), which has been equipped with facilities for flood irrigation with wastewater since 1965. Potato starch and brewery effluents were mixed in a storage reservoir at a ratio of 1:0.4. Meadow sward was irrigated with wastewater in autumn and after the first harvest, at an annual dose of 200 – 300 mm. On average, wastewater contained (mg dm-3): N – 223, P – 48, K – 285, Ca – 80, Mg – 46, Na – 68. Before the first harvest in 1998, 2003, 2008, 2013 and 2018, the floristic composition of meadow sward was determined on an 11-degree scale by the Klapp method. Yield was determined in trial plots. Based on the percentage of dominant species (above 20% share of the sward), several floristic types of grassland communities were identified. Herbage samples were collected for detailed botanical and chemical analyses according to the floristic composition of the identified grassland communities. Chemical analyses of plant material were performed by standard methods. Longterm irrigation of meadow sward with wastewater contributed to the development of agronomically important plant communities, except for the Agropyron repens community in the western part of the research site. The yield of grassland irrigated with wastewater, regardless of a floristic type, was 2- to 3-fold higher than the yield of non-irrigated grassland. Hay harveste in wastewater-irrigated meadows met the crude fiber, ash and fat requirements of animals. The total protein content of hay remained within the recommended limits for high-quality fodder, except for the Alopecurus pratensis + Agropyron repens community.

This work presents a comparative analysis of the phenolic composition (UHPLC-PDA-ESI-MS 3 , HPLC-PDA- fingerprint, UV-spectrophotometric methods) and antioxidant activity (DPPH, FRAP) of leaf samples from two vegetation seasons of a medicinal and dietary plant Sorbus domestica growing in its natural habitat (Croatia, C) and cultivated in Poland (P). The samples from both sources were rich in structurally diverse polyphenols (44 analytes; P: 73.4–76.6 and C: 98.3–106.7 mg GAE/g dry leaves) including the dominating flavan-3-ols and flavonoids. The greatest qualitative and quantitative differences were observed for flavonoids (P: 14.3–20.3%; C: 27.5–34.1% of polyphenols) – in the Polish samples flavonoid diglycosides predominated, in the Croatian samples the contents of both monoglycosides and diglycosides were similar. In the case of dry methanolic extracts, despite the higher extraction efficiency obtained for the Croatian samples (32–36% vs 23–24%), the quality of the extracts was comparable, both in terms of the total phenolic content (P: 269.4–280.0; C: 297.6–304.4; mg GAE/g dry extract) and antioxidant activity parameters (DPPH, EC 50 , μg/mL. P: 10.5–10.9, C: 10.0–10.3; and FRAP, mmol Fe 2+/g, P: 6.64–7.13, C: 7.06–7.11). As a result, the study confirmed the influence of environmental conditions on the phenolic profile and antioxidant capacity of S. domestica leaves, as well as showed that despite some differences, plant materials from both Poland and Croatia might be suitable for production of natural health products.

Opis:
A taxonomic account of the Callovian crinoid fauna from the Żebrak IG 1 borehole (eastern Poland) is presented. The assemblage contains numerous isocrinid ossicles (Isocrinidae) assigned to the following taxa: Isocrinus cf. nicoleti (Desor), Isocrinus sp., Chariocrinus andreae (Desor), Balanocrinus cf. subteres (Münster in Goldfuss) and Pentacrinites sp. These isocrinids are associated with a few ossicles of cyrtocrinids (Cyrtocrinida; Cyrtocrinida indet.). The crinoid remains are poorly preserved; they all are isolated ossicles, showing broken margins and/or abraded surfaces. Such a state of preservation documents a long distance of transportation and/or re-deposition in a high-energy, shallow-water setting. The crinoid assemblage differs significantly from those of southern Poland (the Polish Jura Chain and the Mesozoic margin of the Holy Cross Mountains), in which sessile crinoids, such as cyrtocrinids (Cyrtocrinida), inhabiting mostly deeper-water carbonate facies, are predominant.

Opis:
On the 28th of June 2017, the Polish Ministry of the Environment announced the boundaries of the tender areas selected for the third licensing round for concessions for prospection, exploration and exploitation of hydrocarbons. This round is going to be proceeded in the 4th Quarter of 2018 and 1st Quarter of 2019. The geologists of the Polish Geological Survey selected 15 tender areas (promising for discoveries of conventional and unconventional oil and gas fields) based on the geological data resources stored in the National Geological Archive, other published data, as well as the knowledge and experience of employees of the Polish Geological Institute - National Research Institute and the Polish Ministry of the Environment. All selected areas are located onshore. In this article we describe 10 tender areas located in the Gdańsk, Pomerania and Wielkopolska petroleum provinces. Other tender areas situated in the Carpathians (Błażowa, Proszowice W, Rudnik-Lipiny, Wetlina) and in the Lublin Petroleum Province (Ryki) will be discussed in the next publication. Three areas: Wejherowo, Bytów and Braniewo-Miłakowo are located in the northern Poland (Gdańsk Petroleum Province). The exploration targets of these areas are generally related to structural-lithological traps in the Middle Cambrian beds of the Baltic Basin, as well as to unconventional shale oil and gas in the Lower Paleozoic. Seven tender areas are situated in the northwestern Poland (Pomerania and Wielkopolska Petroleum Provinces). Three of them - Chodzież, Piła and Leszno are dedicated to conventional gas deposits in the Rotliegend sandstones and, in some cases, also oil deposits in the Zechstein/Main Dolomite. Excluding the Leszno tender area, chances for tight gas discoveries exist within the Rotliegend sandstones. The exploration target of the Konin tender area is related to possible conventional fields in the Jurassic and Lower Cretaceous beds. In the Pomerania region the exploration target is generally related to conventional hydrocarbon deposits in the Devonian, Carboniferous and Permian (Rotliegend and Zechstein/Main Dolomite). Three tender areas are situated within the region of: Sierpowo, Orle and Chełmno. As a rule, a concession is granted for a period of 10 to 30 years and is divided into 2 phases: 1) prospecting and exploration phase (which lasts from 4 to 5 years and can be extended to another 2-year period), 2) production phase. Every entity interested in obtaining a concession needs to undergo the qualification procedure. We believe that this publication will contribute to better understanding of the offered tender areas and encourage activity in the Polish oil and gas sector.

Green fodder plays a key role in nutrition of ruminants, and its quality is determined by the species composition of meadow and pasture swards. Legumes and herbs are generally more abundant in nutrients, especially minerals, than grasses. Calcium (Ca) and phosphorus (P) are particularly important for animal health. The dietary levels of Ca and P should be balanced to increase their availability and utilization. The aim of this study was to determine the content of calcium and phosphorus and the Ca:P ratio in selected legume and herb species from extensively used grasslands in the Olsztyn Lakeland. The study covered the following species of leguminous plants: Trifolium pratense, Trifolium repens, Lotus corniculatus, Lathyrus pratensis, Lotus uliginosus and Vicia cracc, and herbaceous plants: Taraxacum officinale, Achillea millefolium, Plantago lanceolata, Alchemilla vulgaris, Heracleum sibiricum and Cirsium oleraceum. The investigated legumes and herbs differed significantly in their Ca and P content and the Ca: P ratio. All the species were abundant in Ca, and two taxa: Cirsium oleraceum and Heracleum sibiricum, were characterized by particularly high levels of calcium. The highest levels of phosphorus were noted in Heracleum sibiricum, whereas the lowest content of P was determined in Alchemilla vulgaris, Cirsium oleraceum and Trifolium pratense. Cirsium oleraceum was abundant in Ca and deficient in P, hence it was distinguished by the widest Ca:P ratio. Legumes and herbs are valuable components of meadow sward and a rich source of minerals, in particular Ca, in animal diets.

Opis:
Celem pracy była identyfikacja i ocena aktywności fizjologicznej komórek Lactobacillus spp. w soku z jagód goji z zastosowaniem metody fluorescencyjnej hybrydyzacji in situ (FISH).
Due to the popularization of the "Super Food" trend, consumers expect the presence in the market of products with a broad spectrum of impact on the human body. The goji berry juice is characterized by many beneficial properties, and enriching it with potentially probiotic strains of Lactobacillus spp. can further enhance its nutritional value provided the strains remain viable. The objective of the research study was to identify and evaluate the physiological activity of Lactobacillus spp. in goji berry juice using a fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH) method. In order to identify Lactobacillus spp., the in situ hybridization was conducted with rRNA oligonucleotide probes including the domain-specific probe Eubacteria (Eub338), the nonsense probe (Non338), the probes specific for lactic acid bacteria (Lab158) group as well as 11 species-specific probes for different Lactobacillus species. The analysis of the physiological activity of Lactobacillus spp. cells in goji berry juice was carried out using the probe Eub338 immediately after the inoculation and on the 3rd, 8th, 15th, 22nd, and 29th day of storage at a 20 ºC (± 2 ºC) and at 6 ºC; the analysis results were compared with the results of the plate count method. The FISH method made it possible to determine the species where 8 out of 9 strains tested belonged to; those bacteria were classified as L. plantarum and L. brevis. In addition, it was proved that the physiological activity of the cells underwent significant changes resulting from storing the goji berry juice at a 20 ºC (± 2 ºC), i.e. it decreased on the last day of storage. Comparing those results with the results of the plate method, the non-culturability of the cells may be suggested. However, after storing the juice at 6 ºC, its physiological activity was stable as the cell count was high until the last day of storage. Research conducted in this area indicates that the FISH method is useful for detecting and analyzing the physiology of Lactobacillus spp.

The issue of quality management, despite its long history, remains a dynamically developing research discipline and a scientific consideration. Subsequently, this is a very extensive field which encompasses many issues. Thus, this work mainly focuses on identifying research threads undertaken within quality management in selected periodicals. The article describes the undertaken overview and indicates research threads entailed within the analysed subject matter. Moreover, the resultant list of threads was presented in the form of a knowledge map reflecting their coexistence in specific articles. The methods used while preparing this article constitute an overview of the literature and a network analysis. The research threads highlighted in the paper indicate, which topics are of interest among researchers in terms of issues related to quality management, while their presentation in the form of a network enables fast and unambiguous access to knowledge within this area. The results of analyses described in the publication may attract the interest of mainly those who scientifically deal with the development of the concept of quality management, as well as enterprises that would wish to get acquainted with current trends in this field.

Opis:
The Crimean Mountains (CM) are regarded as part of the Alpine-Himalaya orogenic belt related to the collision of the Eurasian and African plates. Our research in the CM has allowed confirming the existence of at least two flysch formations of different ages: the Taurida Flysch Formation (Upper Triassic/Lower–? Middle Jurassic) and the Sudak Formation (uppermost Jurassic/Lower Cretaceous) in the western and eastern sectors of the CM, respectively. After the Middle Jurassic volcanism, the freshwater claystones with coal-bearing intercalations, as well as local alluvial fan conglomerates were deposited. Then, following the Oxfordian/Kimmeridgian marine transgression, three separated Tithonian/Berriasian carbonate platforms developed: Baydarska, Chatyr-Dag and Demerji/Karabi. At the turn of the Late Jurassic, the deep-water Sudak Basin (eastern sector of the CM) began to develop in the eastern periphery of the Demerji/Karabi carbonate platform. This basin, dominated by turbiditic deposition, was probably connected with the Great Caucasus sedimentary system. Finally, distal flysch sedimentation in the Sudak Basin was followed by debris-flow deposits, with huge blocks of Upper Jurassic limestones. These blocks were derived from destruction of the Karabi carbonate platform. During the Berriasian/Valanginian, the eastern sector of the CM began to subside. As a result, both carbonate platforms (western CM) and the debris flow fans of the Sudak Basin (eastern CM) were overlain by marly shales and/or distal turbidites. This type of deposition lasted until the Aptian/Albian. In the post-Albian period, the Alushta-Salgir tectonic zone was transformed into a SE-dipping thrust fault with at least 10 km amplitude of overthrusting.
