Opis:
Intensive use of insecticides has led not only to enhanced environment pollution, but most of all, to an increase in insects’ resistance to the chemicals in use. That is why presently the scientists focus on searching for new, alternative means to aid crop protection. One of the ways to achieve it is finding a compound which, when added to an insecticide, magnifies significantly its toxicity against the pests and in the same time it is safe for people. In the presented study we have attempted to analyse whether the active compound of pepper, capsaicin, increases toxicity of a pyrethroid (Bulldock 025 EC) against American cockroach, a main insect factor causing allergies and asthma in people. The effect of the tested substances was measured by means of changes observed in hemolymph pH and acute toxicity test, performed in various ambient temperatures (15 oC, 25 oC and 35 oC). The results of the experiments suggest that the tested substances affect significantly acid-base homeostasis. Moreover, it was demonstrated that different concentrations of capsaicin have different influence on insecticidal properties of the tested pesticide in higher ambient temperatures. It was established that simultaneous application of capsaicin (in 10–8 M concentration) and pyrethroid (LD50) causes an increase in death rate among the intoxicated insects. These results give hopes as for applicability of capsaicin as a synergist of pyrethroid insecticides against Periplaneta americana, especially in conditions in which the toxicity of the pesticide itself is lower (ie in higher ambient temperatures).
W prezentowanej pracy podjęto próbę oceny czy aktywny składnik papryki – kapsaicyna, zwiększy toksyczność pyretroidu (Bulldock 025EC) w stosunku do karaczana amerykańskiego, będącego głównym czynnikiem wywołującym alergie i astmę u ludzi.

The Wapiennik Breccia Member was originally attributed to the Czorsztyn Limestone Formation of the Czorsztyn Succession in the Pieniny Klippen Basin. The breccia was assigned previously to the Callovian-Oxfordian. Based on micropalaeontological and microfacies studies we have determined its age as late Albian. At this time the Czorsztyn Swell was affected by extensional faulting, with subsequent submarine erosion of scarps. The re-evaluated age of the breccia, as well as the lithology of its clasts and its matrix that contains Cretaceous foraminifera, indicate the assignment of the Wapiennik Breccia Member to the Chmielowa Formation.

Opis:
In Dobrowoda village which is situated within the central area of the Polish Carpathian Foredeep, saline sulphur water has been found in a deep depression filled with Badenian sands. Environmental tracer data indicate similar interglacial age as that of shallow mineral waters occuring in Cretaceous marls in the nearby Busko Spa. Primary sulphates and secondary sulphides in all mineral waters of this region originated mainly from the dissolution of Badenian gypsum strata whereas the salinity is supposed to be the remnant of chloride salts of the same age which were completely washed out by meteoric waters during the long infiltration period after the regression of the Miocene sea. The hypothetical recharge area(s) are to the west of the study area, which means that chemical Badenian sediments occupied much larger area than the present extent of the sulphate series.

Opis:
Results of new biostratigraphical investigations correlated with nannoplankton zones permit to suggest that deposits which are filling the eastern, Polish part of the Carpathian Foredeep Basin include also the late Sarmatian and Panonian deposits. The filling of eastern parts of the Carpathian Foredeep, as in most foredeep basins, took place in two main stages; (1) underfilled flysch stage - lasting from the early Badenian to the lower part of late Badenian (Moravian– Wieliczian) and (2) overfilled molasse stage — lasting from upper part of the late Badenian to Panonian (Kosovian–Meotian). Classically, this flysch to molasse transition is interpreted as a record of the migration of the thrust wedge and foreland basin over the hinge line of the inherited passive margin. Also, the Badenian and Sarmatian successions are characterised by very diverse facies, which were deposited in various depositional environments. A detailed sedimentological analysis of cores, together with well log analysis, and seismic sections permitted to fit the stratigraphic column into a sequence stratigraphic framework. Within this framework, the Badenian and Sarmatian successions are interpreted to have been deposited within 3 third-order depositional sequences: the first two in the Badenian (not recognised in seismic scale), and the third during the Sarmatian, which consists of 4 fourth-order sequences (Dziadzio, 1999, 2000), with total thickness of 800 to over 3000 m. The M3 boundary is interpreted as a flooding surface within the fourth order, oldest Sarmatian depositional sequence. The M2 boundary corresponds to the boundary between two foraminiferal zones Anomalinoides dividens and Varidentella reussi, within the Sarmatian succession, which lies in the upper part of the second Sarmatian sequences, near the maximum flooding surface, in late phase of highstand sea level. The M1 boundary is interpreted as a transgressive surface within the third Sarmatian sequence. The boundary M0 marks transgressive surface within the fourth Sarmatian sequence and also is a stratigraphical boundary between two youngest foraminiferal zones Velapertina reussi and Porosononion granosum, and marks a border between the Wolhynian and Bessarabian stages.

Opis:
The aim of this study is to compare the assemblages of foraminifera and calcareous nannoplankton from the Middle Miocene sediments from SE Poland and western Ukraine. Detailed investigations revealed a high degree of similarity of foraminiferal assemblages of the Pecten/Spirialis beds of Poland and the Kosiv Formation of Ukraine. Assemblages from both areas are characterized by numerous arenaceous species of foraminifera (Hyperammina granulosa, Ammodiscus miocenicus, Haplophragmoides indentatus, H. laminatus), radiolarians, pteropods and index planktic species Velapertina indigena. High degrees of similarity also display assemblages from the Krakowiec beds (Poland) and the Dashava Formation (Ukraine). The lower parts of both subdivisions are characterized by the presence of Anomalinoides dividens. Saccammina sarmatica, Bolivina sarmatica, Brizalina nisporenica, and Porosononion granosum occur in the upper parts. Chloropycean Halicoryne morelleti is a characteristic element of the assemblages. The calcareous nannoplankton assemblages contain almost identical species. The deposits lying above the evaporites (which belong to the NN6 zone) are included into the NN6, undivided NN6-NN7, and NN7 zones. The gradual impoverishment of the species of the upper part of NN6 and the lower part of NN7 zones is observed. The assemblages of the Krakowiec beds and the upper part of the Kosiv and Dashava formations are of low species diversity and are mainly restricted to a few species with high abundance. The assemblage is composed of placoliths (Coccolithus and Reticulofenestra species), high number of the reworked nannofossils and damaged elements.

The goal of the presented paper is to work out the measurement strategy with a shortened measurement time but ensuring the required measurements accuracy of round symmetrical details. Nowadays the customer requirements are very high and they force the producers to improve the manufacturing methods and quality control systems. It refers also to the motor and aerospace industry. All details of a truck or a plane have to work long without failures. Therefore, the attention is paid to the accuracy of each responsible detail. The Company FOS POLMO Łódź SA and the Institute of Mechanical Engineering (Poznan University of Technology) have started the joined research program on the strategies of quick and accurate measurements of round symmetrical details. The research is based on the CMM and specialized measuring devices. The appropriate software provides the processing of the obtained data and the possibility to create a correction file for the machining center. It is crucial, however, to work out the measurement strategy with shorter measuring time but ensuring the needed accuracy. As a result of the investigations, the recommendations are formulated, which will lead to rise in the effectiveness and competitiveness of the POLMO Company.

The studies on agricultural droughts require long-term atmospheric, hydrological and meteorological data. On the other hand, today, the possibilities of using spectral data in environmental studies are indicated. The development of remote sensing techniques, increasing the spectral and spatial resolution of data allows using remote sensing data in the study of water content in the environment. The paper presents the results of the analysis of moisture content of soil-plant environment in the lowland areas of river valley using the spectral data from Sentinel-2. The analyses were conducted between February and November 2016. The spectral data were used to calculate the Normalize Differential Vegetation Index (NDVI) which provided the information about the moisture content of the soil-plant environment. The analyses were performed only on grasslands, on 22 objects located in the research area in the Oder river valley between Malczyce and Brzeg Dolny, Poland. The NDVI values were correlated with the hydrological and meteorological parameters. The analyses showed spatial and temporal variability of the moisture conditions in the soil-plant environment showed by the NDVI variability and existence some relationships between the climatic and spectral indices characterizing the moisture content in the environment.

The following Late Jurassic depositional systems have been recognized in the WUkrainian and SE Polish margin of the East European Platform: shelf slope/basin, open shelf, carbonate ramp, siliciclastic shelf, fluvial/playa, deltaic/swamp, restricted marine/evaporate lagoon. Three depositional megasequences have been identified. Their upper boundaries have been dated by means of targeted stratigraphic studies, compilation of existing data and reinterpretation of stratigraphic correlation concepts respectively as: lower Kimmeridgian divisum/hypselocyclum zones boundary, uppermost upper Kimmeridgian and lower Berriasian. Analysis of thickness and depositional system architecture within themegasequences in six regional cross-sections indicates that depocentre was located in the SW margin of the Mid-Polish Trough during Oxfordian and early Kimmeridgian times and propagated in Tithonian time to the Lviv region. This can be explained by changes in the palaeostress field. Approximately N–S oriented extension during Oxfordian and earliest Kimmeridgian times was replaced by approximately NE–SW oriented extension in Tithonian time. The thickness pattern of the megasequences as well as proximity trends of the system tracts within the sequences clearly coincide with the depocentre propagation.

The deposits of the Niżniów Formation, exposed around Niżniów, mainly on the banks of Dnister River, accumulated in the most proximal, marginal position of the latest Jurassic-earliest Cretaceous epicontinental basin on the SW margin of the East European Platform. The Niżniów Formation directly onlaps a Palaeozoic substrate and consists of transgressive cliff-derived conglomerates, and sandstones and marls which pass laterally into shallow marine carbonates: mainly biomicrites, oncomicrites, and pelmicrites with an abundant benthic fauna dominated by nerineid gastropods. The thickness of the formation in the area studied ranges from 0 to more than 20 metres and was controlled bymorphology of the pre-transgression substrate (mainly built of Devonian clastic rocks), synsedimentary fault tectonics and pre-mid-Albian erosion. The age of the Niżniów Formation can be determined, on the evidence of benthic foraminifers encountered in thin sections, as most probably late Tithonian-early Berriasian.

Investigation of antimicrobial resistance and genetic relatedness of staphylococci from milk of cows with mastitis and cowshed environment was the aim of this study. Antimicrobial resistance against 14 antimicrobials were determined by using a disc diffusion method. Genetic similarity between the most frequently isolated species was analysed by PFGE (pulsed-field gel electrophoresis). Haemolytic activity, DNase, protease and esterase production was also investigated. Coagulase-negative Staphylococcus species were isolated from 30.8% of milk samples from cows with mastitis. The most frequently isolated species was Staphylococcus xylosus and yield of these organisms was significantly associated with milk of mastitis cows. S. epidermidis was a predominant penicillin-resistant species. High frequency of resistance to lincomycin was observed among isolates of S. sciuri (54.2%) and S. xylosus (25.9%) from cows with mastitis. PFGE (pulsed-field gel electrophoresis) analysis of 29 Staphylococcus aureus isolates showed the presence of 17 PFGE pulsotypes. Isolates of S. sciuri (n=36) had unique PFGE patterns. Some S. xylosus isolates from milk and milker’s hands had the same PFGE pulsotypes, and this observation could indicate that dairyman may be a potential source of the infection. The pulsotype of each of the remaining isolates of S. xylosus suggested that they might have come from common environmental sources; however, these isolates differed in antibiotic resistance pattern or virulence traits. Therefore, knowledge about antibiotic sensitivity pattern and virulence factors of a CNS isolate, besides its genotype, may be informative in tracking the source of the infection.

A comparative sedimentological analysis of the Upper Jurassic–Lower Cretaceous deposits carried out on drill-cores from the southern part of the Carpathian Foredeep allowed us to distinguish thirteen main microfacies types. The results of microfacies analyses and stratigraphical data made it possible to propose a lithological subdivision of the southern part of the Upper Jurassic and Lower Cretaceous sediments of the Carpathian Foredeep basement between Kraków and Rzeszów. In the analysed wells, three main sedimentary complexes were distinguished, embracing the following intervals: (i) Callovian–Oxfordian, (ii) Kimmeridgian and (iii) Tithonian– Berriasian–Valanginian. The Oxfordian, Kimmeridgian and Tithonian deposits represent the outer – mid homoclinal ramp facies, whereas the Berriasian and Valanginian deposits belong to the inner homoclinal ramp facies. Complexes of microbial-sponge reefs, with a distinct relief, could be recognised in the Upper Oxfordian sediments only. The development of these buildups took place in a basin typified by diversified morphology, determined by the block-type structure of the Palaeozoic basement and synsedimentary tectonics, which brought about substantial variability in thickness of the Oxfordian sediments. At the end of the Oxfordian, large complexes of the reef facies were replaced mainly by microbial-sponge and microbial-coral biostromes developed during the Kimmeridgian and Tithonian. In the principal part of the studied area (except the western part of the described fragment of the Carpathian Foredeep; Kraków area) during the Kimmeridgian, Tithonian, Berriasian and Valanginian, sedimentation occurred in a basin typified by homogeneous morphology, which resulted in a wide extent and comparable thicknesses of the distinguished facies types. In the studied sections, indications of partial or complete dolomitization were observed in a large part of the sediments. Four generations of dolomite document a complex diagenetic history with multiple episodes of dolomite formation: from early diagenetic environment to late burial conditions.

Opis:
The Upper Jurassic–Lower Cretaceous carbonate sediments developed in a narrow, Ukrainian part of the basement of the Carpathian Foredeep show high facies diversity. Based upon thin section studies, the authors identified eleven principal microfacies varieties. Three main stages of development of carbonate platform were distinguished: (i) Oxfordian–Early Kimmeridgian, (ii) Kimmeridgian–Tithonian, and (iii) Berriasian–Valanginian. The Oxfordian sediments are rather thin and represent both the outer and inner, distally steepened ramp facies. In the Late Kimmeridgian and, mainly, in the Tithonian, the intensive growth of rimmed platform took place with distinct zones of peritidal, margin barrier and platform slope, bearing calciturbidite facies. Development of the rimmed platform was controlled by synsedimentary tectonic movements along faults rejuvenated southwest of the Holy Cross Mts. Fault Zone. In the Berriasian–Valanginian, the dominant process was sedimentation onto not-rimmed platform controlled by small sea-level changes. Both the facies development and literature data indicate that the Late Jurassic sedimentation in the Ukrainian part of the Carpathian Foredeep basement shows considerable differences in comparison to that of the Polish part. In the studied successions, large Oxfordian microbial-siliceous sponge reef complexes, known from the Polish part of the Carpathian Foredeep basement and other areas in Europe, were rare. In the study area carbonate buildups were encountered mainly in the intervals representing the Upper Kimmeridgian–Tithonian where small, microbial-sponge and microbial-coral biostromes or patch-reefs were formed. Their growth was presumably restricted to a narrow zone of the upper slope, close to ooidal-bioclastic margin platform facies. In the Polish part of the Carpathian Foredeep basement, the Late Jurassic sedimentation took place on a vast, homoclinal ramp while in the Ukrainian part it proceeded on a narrow, distally steepened ramp and rimmed platform with distinct marginal platform barrier. Similar platform facies distribution in both regions appeared mainly in the Early Cretaceous, although with some stratigraphical differences. The facies distribution of the Upper Jurassic sediments was closely controlled by the block structure of the basement and by orientation of the main, transcontinental Holy Cross Mts. Fault Zone, which supports the opinion on its activity in the Mesozoic era. The Ukrainian part of the Carpathian Foredeep basement located over the Palaeozoic Kokhanivka Block, between the Krakovets and Holy Cross fault zones, includes predominantly the slope, marginal and inner platform facies. Facies observed over the Palaeozoic Rava Ruska Block (south-western part of the East-European Platform), between the Holy Cross and Rava Ruska fault zones, represents mainly the inner platform and the peri-shore deposits.

Opis:
Upper Jurassic and Lower Cretaceous deposits of the Crimea Peninsula are rich in microfossils frequently used for stratigraphic interpretations. In case of foraminifera, the research has been carried predomi- nantly on assemblages obtained by washing the rock samples. The present paper is based on investigations of thin sections from the more indurated sediments that seldom were objects of study. Its goal was to obtain additional information on age and environment of sediments studied. Over 250 thin sections from 16 surface outcrops yielded abundant foraminifera from which over fourty are described herein. Many foraminiferal species (e.g., Labirynthina mirabilis, Parurgonina caelinensis, Neokilianina rahonensis, Amijella amiji, Anchispirocyclina lusitanica) are stratigraphically significant and known from the Kimmeridgian-Tithonian of the Mediterranean Tethys. The Early Cretaceous fauna is represented by Protopeneroplis ultragranulata, Everticyclammina kelleri, Nautiloculina bronnimanni, Monsalevia salevensis, and Mayncina bulgarica. Generally, the investigated fauna is typical for paleoenvironment of the carbonate platform. Older (Kimmeridgian-Tithonian) assemblages represent the inner, and younger (Berriasian) outer parts of the platform. Palaeogeographic distribution of many species described from the studied area indicates their affiliation with cosmopolitan biota known from the north Tethyan shelf. Additionally, few calcareous cysts of Dinoflagellata have been identified and described.
