The paper explores hybrid identities of main characters in chosen contemporary authors as Kafka, Dürrenmatt, Bulgakov, Dukaj, and in particular Brown. They all contribute to the posthumanist literary genre and to better comprehension of condition posthumana as a leading utopia in the age of advanced technologies. The author argues for affinities between the human and the non-human brain, far beyond the anthropocentrism and anthropodenialism controversy.

The proposed paper presents the functioning of German-origin names with their root and etymology of German origin borne by Poznań burghers in the seventeenth and the eighteenth centuries. The source material for the study was provided by archival registers of the taxpayer of the tax on production and sale of alcoholic beverages. The work has attempted to determine the motivation behind the names and to track down their development, while the applied research method involves the motivational analysis that results in a pool of particular types of surnames that includes surnames motivated by German proper names and German appellatives. The set of all foreign surnames of the population of Poznań, amounting to nearly 20% of all onomastic material attested in the available archival documents, includes far more German surnames or surnames of German origin than any other surnames. In time, the given names of German people were Polonized both in the phonetic and the morphological plane. A small part of them was incorporated into the Polish language in their original form. In the material under scrutiny the Polonized forms were in preponderance as compared to purely German names. Language adaptation was also responsible for the formation of surnames of women – hybrid feminine forms from German names with Polish feminine suffixes appended onto foreign names. On numerous occasions it was impossible to unequivocally establish the German etymology of some of the surnames, which forced a conclusion leading to a proposition of a multi-motivational character of Poznań anthroponyms that, beside the motivation by a Polish anthroponym or appellative, also referred to German anthroponyms and appellatives. The bulk of surnames of German origin have remained vital and have been testified in the resources of present-day Polish anthroponyms.

Marina Klimenko, a senior lecturer at the Universi-ty of Florida, developed an innovative digital textbook entitled Research Methods in the Social Sciences (2020) with the focus on investigative psychology. The edition was powered by the e-learn-ing portal and published by Sentia Publishing. The author’s own epistemological and research expertise is combined here with her competence in higher education didactics. Klimenko’s textbook seems to be perfectly tailored for prospective researchers – and useful for various disciplines representing the social sciences and humanities.

In this chapter I focus on the relevance of moral emotions in our „perception of something as moral issue” as well as „in the application of moral norms, but also in their grounding…”1. Referring to the statements of philosophy (from Aristotle to Habermas) and developmental psychology (from Piaget to Ekman) I highlight that affectivity needs to be already promoted in the early education. There is a lack of the professional emotional education in the Polish schooling system. Finally I propose a simple training for both teachers and students, in order to strength their skills of understanding facial emotional expressions of others. Mutual respect, trust, and better communicational relationships in the classroom will follow, and, last but not least, the learning processes in pupils will be facilitated too.

Regionalna struktura społeczna Polski wykazała przewagę województw mazowieckiego i pomorskiego. Województwa te dystansują się wielkością PKB na mieszkańca. Wyróżniają się pod względem recepcji turystów zarówno krajowych, jak i zagranicznych. Według szacunków, w 2007 roku województwo mazowieckie przyjęło 13% krajowego ruchu turystycznego. Kolejne pod względem liczby turystów krajowych było pomorskie i małopolskie. Podczas podróży długookresowych Polacy odwiedzali najczęściej województwo pomorskie. W celach turystyczno-wypoczynkowych Polacy najczęściej podróżowali do województw: pomorskiego, zachodniopomorskiego, kujawsko- -pomorskiego, warmińsko-mazurskiego, Najwięcej turystów zagranicznych odwiedziło województwa: wielkopolskie, dolnośląskie, mazowieckie, małopolskie. Jeśli chodzi o podaż turystyczną to najlepiej rozwinięta jest baza hotelowa w województwach mazowieckim, śląskim i dolnośląskim. Obszary o wysokiej recepcji turystycznej charakteryzuje wysoki poziom bazy hotelowej i wysoki stopień wykorzystania miejsc noclegowych, co pociąga za sobą rozwój społeczny, natomiast poziom wsparcia unii dla tych regionów nie jest wysoki, co jest zgodne z przyjętą polityką regionalną.
The concept of regional development is often combined with the concept of competitiveness, which is understood as a group of conditions that maintains a competitive advantage and longterm growth in order to build prosperity and quality of life. The aim of this study is an attempt to apply the classification procedure to assess the competitiveness of the tourism industry within Polish regions (voivodeships). Tourism activities and measurement of their effects on the regional economy is very important, especially because they are linked to retention, employment, economic and social cohesion and strengthening the quality of life. Application of the principal component analysis and non-hierarchical cluster analysis identified the regional dimension of the tourism economy and isolated types of regions that differ in the amount of demand, the supply of tourism development potential measured by GDP per capita and the level of support of regional policy instruments. This method provides an objective assessment of the multi-criteria phenomenon of competitiveness in territorial arrangement. According to the proposed system model diagnostic variables characterizing the level of tourism in the provinces were grouped into sub-systems: supply (10 features), demand (7 features) and economic development (4 features). The method of multivariate analysis, i.e. principal component analysis was applied in order to replace original features with fewer meta-features of principal components. The results showed that the highest level of regional development were achieved by Mazowieckie and Pomorskie voivodeships, influenced by very high household incomes, low unemployment and a high level of support from EU funds for regional development. Śląskie voivodeship had the highest level of support from regional development funds per capita while maintaining a high level of socio-economic development. Wielkopolskie, Łódzkie, Śląskie and Małopolskie voivodeships had low levels of regional development support per capita, yet a high economic growth. The largest group: Zachodniopomorskie, Lubuskie, Kujawsko-pomorskie, Warmińsko-mazurskie, Podlaskie, Lubelskie, Podkarpackie, Świętokrzyskie and Opolskie voivodeships had low levels of economic development and medium level of regional development funding compared to other provinces.

In the proposed study consideration is given to the problem of the interdependency and distinction of priorities of public opinion, news media and public policies on the local level. The theoretical and methodological basis of the paper consists of the agenda-setting and political responsiveness approaches. The empirical data is divided into three agendas: public, media and policy, which were analysed using comparative statistical analysis. The conclusions pointed at the substantial distinction of the priorities formulat-ed by public opinion and the policies implemented by local government and, to a certain extent, at the interdependency between the news media and local public policy agenda.

The paper presents the most important methodological findings and proposals devoted to the relationship between media, public and policy agendas, prepared on the basis of the agenda-setting theory. The first part investigates the methodology of media-public agendas interrelationship research. In the analysis of the second part, concerning the media-policy agendas correlations, the hitherto established research models are taken into account as well as original conceptualization and operationalization of the research problem are proposed.
Opracowanie jest próbą przedstawienia najważniejszych ustaleń i  propozycji metodologicznych związanych z  badaniem relacji pomiędzy agendą medialną, publiczną oraz polityczną na gruncie teorii agenda-setting. W  pierwszej części opracowania zostanie przedstawiona metodologia stosowana dotychczas w  badaniu relacji pomiędzy agendą medialną a  publiczną. W  drugiej części analizie zostaną poddane metody wykorzystywane do ustalania zależności pomiędzy agendą medialną a  polityczną. W  obrębie tego zagadnienia zaproponowano modele badawcze bazujące na dotychczasowych doświadczeniach badaczy tego przedmiotu oraz własnej konceptualizacji i  operacjonalizacji problemu.

The paper discusses Wittgenstein’s approaches to ethics within two contrastive contexts, e.g., pragmatism and cooperative-discursive normative practice. The first section revisits the fiasco of his early “negative” ethics. The second section subsequently shows how Wittgenstein’s mature concept of blind rule-following displaces normativity but simultaneously becomes the key predictor for discourse ethics (or, rather, a specific kind of it). The final section discusses the pros and cons of finitism in the light of contemporary philosophy of mind. As a conclusion, the author provides evidence for her hypothesis that there is no normative (embodied) mind without a manifest normative competence, which includes moral judgment and discursive competence.

The formation and development of khalachic rules, in particular niddah, was always already oriented towards integral perfectibility of human life. The paper explores the integral life eschatology in Judaism and shows how Niddah has been manipulated by race hygienists and eugenicists 1850–1945 as a tool creating a myth of Jewish race on the one hand, and a counter-myth of the new superhuman race. That scandalous manipulation should be concidered when seeking analogies between the Jewish ideal of integral perfectibility and the Western eugenics.

Policy agenda-setting is the political science research stream which is present in Western studies from several dozen years, however in Poland these studies are very rare if not absent. Policy agenda-setting research is focused on pre-decision stage and is aimed to answer the questions about: why governments shape its public policies in a certain way? Which issues enter into the policy agendas, which do not and for which reasons? Who are the most important agenda-setters for the definite public policies? The aim of the paper is to present the most influential theoretical approaches and empirical investigation results, the most meaningful trends of studies, as well as the significance of policy agenda-setting research within political science.

The review addresses the recent monograph Social and Institutional Dimensions of Axel Honneth’s Theory of Recognition by Marcin J. Byczyński (Łódź University Press, Jurisprudence Series, Vol. 17/2021, pp. 1–273). Jakub Kloc-Konkołowicz was the external reviewer of the doctoral dissertation which gave rise to the book. The essential contributions of this book are discussed against the background of former and pioneering recognition research from the Polish context, including this by Jakub Kloc-Konkołowicz and Marek Siemek. In addition, they are supplemented by Hegel’s three rights of freedom and further vital themes. This provides the following review with a contextual ‘surplus.’ Byczyński’s monograph considerably advances an important Warsaw-Poznań research strand and is notable for its originality among the books devoted to Honneth’s Theory of Recognition.

The structural analysis of the results of the 2005 and 2007 parliamentary elections, i.e. the breakdown of votes with regard to the voters’ age, education and place of residence, together with new axiological orientations, allows one to hypothesize that Poland may be undergoing a new sociopolitical division. The so far predominant axis of political differentiation into post-Solidarity vs. post-communist factions, has been gradually being replaced, starting with parliamentary and presidential elections of 2005, with a new axis. With regard to identity (system of values) the division is that into conservatists and liberals, while in the structural sense (age, place of residence, education) the division is into the centre vs. the periphery. An important factor, however, is that of civic critique of the style of exercising power as a criterion modifying electoral attitudes and behaviours. A verification of the hypothesis requires well-constructed research and analyses which can bring not only theoretical but also practical results by providing answers to the ever valid questions: what should one do to win the elections, how should one formulate the electoral message, why do people make electoral choices that they do?

Artykuł rozważa fenomenologiczne koncepcje ciała, pomocne w objaśnieniu doświadczenia, jakim jest przeszczep twarzy. Pierwsze trzy rozdziały ukazują krystalizację takich pojęć, jak ciało własne i tożsamość psychosomatyczna w filozofii, ostatnie trzy – ewolucję tych pojęć w kierunku intercielesności. Autorka stara się wyważyć stanowisko ontologiczne o charakterze nonredukcjonistycznym i postdualistycznym, przydatne w naukach o życiu i humanistyce medycznej. Redefinicja tożsamości somatycznej w obliczu przeszczepu twarzy (i generalnie: transplantologii) interesuje jedne i drugie nauki.
The paper examines phenomenological concepts of body and psychosomatic identity to explain the facial allotransplant experience. The first three sections show how did the concept of own body/embodiment evolve in philosophy, the last three – how body had been re–opened to the transcorporeality. The author undertakes efforts to balance an ontological, nonreductionistic and postdualistic account which could be shared across the boundaries between life sciences and humanities. Facial allograft phenomenon and the redefinition of personal somatic identity are considered in both disciplines.
