This case study examines university students’ satisfaction with and perceptions towards the use of blended learning and flipped classroom models in foreign language learning (FLL) contexts. The methodology used in this study involves the descriptive and quantitative analysis of responses generated from students studying English as a foreign language at the Faculty of Foreign Languages at the University of Jordan. The analysis of these responses gave the author of this study an idea about what factors a teacher should take into account when introducing blended learning and flipped classroom models into a classroom.

Nichrome Schottky barrier diodes have been fabricated on 4H-SiC substrates to investigate the temperature dependant electrical characteristics of the fabricated contacts. The electrical parameters such as barrier height, ideality factor and donor concentration were found from the current-voltage (I-V) and the capacitance-voltage (C-V) measurements at room temperature. Barrier Contacts showed non-ideal behaviour like lower value of barrier height and high value of ideality factor. A barrier height of 1.53eV obtained from C-V measurements and 0.79eV obtained from the I-V measurements with ideality factor of 1.96 for as-deposited diodes at room temperature. The diodes, therefore, were annealed in the temperature range from 25-400 ºC to see the effect of annealing temperature on these parameters. Schottky barrier height (SBH) and ideality factors were found temperature dependent. After rapid thermal annealing (RTA) upto 400 ºC barrier height of 1.27 eV from C-V measurements and the value of 1.13 eV were obtained from I-V measurements with ideality factor of 1.12. Since barrier height deduced from C-V measurements were consistently larger than those from I-V measurements. To remove this discrepancy we re-examined our results by including the effect of ideality factor in the expression of the saturation current. The insertion of ideality factor results in comparably good agreement between the values of barrier height derived by above two methods. We believe that the enhancement in the electrical parameters result from the improvement in the quality of interfacial layer.

Although the complexities and irrevocable consequences associated with bridge scour have attracted researchers interest, their studies scarcely indicated the effect of a bridge pier proximity to an abutment. This research aims to measure maximum scour depth and exhibit the impact of pier-abutment scour interference based on laboratory experiments where vertical-wall abutment and two shapes of a pier (oblong and lenticular) were used at three different spacings (23.5, 16.0, 9.0 cm). The results showed an obvious increase in the scour depth ratio when increasing flow intensity, Froude number, and a decreasing flow depth. They also showed that reduced pier-abutment spacing was accompanied by increase in pier scour for both shapes while decrease in abutment scour. The maximum scour depth that caused by an oblong shape was more than a lenticular shape by about 10.8%. Furthermore, new empirical equations were derived using IBM SPSS Statistics 21 with determination coefficients of 0.969, 0.974, and 0.978 for oblong, lenticular and abutment, respectively. They showed the correlation between predicted and observed data.

This project involves modification of the photoresponse of zinc oxide by sensitization with riboflavin (RF) as a photosensitizer. Sensitization of the surface of zinc oxide with RF was performed using impregnation method. Modification of zinc oxide surface with this photosensitizer was investigated using different techniques such as XRD, FTIR, SEM and UV-Visible spectroscopy. The photocatalytic activity of both neat and sensitized zinc oxide was investigated by removal of methylene blue dye (MB) from the simulated industrial wastewater. Removal of this dye from the aqueous solutions was conducted by measuring the absorbance of this dye at 665 nm.

This work involves synthesis of activated carbon from Iraqi date palm seeds as agricultural wastes using kehdrawy palm seeds. The preparation was conducted by chemical activation method using ZnCl2 as an activator. The synthesized activated carbon (AC) was characterized by different analytical and spectroscopic methods. This involves using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), flourier transformation infrared (FTIR), ash content, adsorption capacity, the percentage of humidity and the point zero charge (PZC). The activity of the prepared activated carbon was investigated by following the removal of reactive yellow 145 dye (RY 145) from the aqueous solutions. For a comparison a sample of non- activated carbon (NAC) was used in the same process. From the obtained results it was found that AC was more efficient in dye removal in comparison with NAC under the same conditions

Opis:
Thermoplastic polyurethane-natural rubber TPUR-NR composites filled with treated and untreated kenaf fiber as filler were prepared at different TPUR and NR contents. The content of kenaf fiber was maintained at 12.5 wt % and the fiber was treated with 6 % solution of sodium hydroxide (NaOH), then dried for 24 hours in 100 °C, hot blended with polymer components, pulverized and pressed. The mechanical properties of the composites such as tensile, flexural and impact strength were determined, and their dependence on NaOH treatment of kenaf fibers was investigated. The analysis using scanning electron microscope (SEM) was implemented to identify the effect of alkali treatment on the microstructure of kenaf fiber and TPUR-NR composites. An improvement of fiber surface roughness and bonding between the fiber and polymer as well as an increase in impact energy and elongation at break of the composites was observed.
Otrzymano kompozyty na osnowie termoplastycznego poliuretanu (TPUR) i naturalnego kauczuku (NR) (o różnej zawartości TPUR i NR), napełnionej włóknami kenafu KF (12,5% mas.). Włókna poddawano wstępnej obróbce przy użyciu 6% roztworu wodorotlenku sodu, suszono w temp. 100 °C przez 24 h, mieszano na gorąco z komponentami polimerowymi, pulweryzowano i prasowano. Zbadano właściwości mechaniczne przy ściskaniu i rozciąganiu oraz odporność na uderzenie kompozytów zawierających modyfikowane lub niemodyfikowane włókna kenafu, a także wpływ alkalicznej obróbki włókien na właściwości kompozytu. Obserwacje mikrostruktury kompozytów prowadzono metodą skaningowej mikroskopii elektronowej. Stwierdzono, że obróbka włókien KF roztworem NaOH wpłynęła na zwiększenie chropowatości ich powierzchni i zdolności wiązania z osnową polimerową, a także na poprawę odporności na uderzenie i zwiększenie wydłużenia przy zerwaniu kompozytów zawierających modyfikowane włókna.

According to United Nations reports, natural disasters caused, worldwide, approximately 100,000 deaths and affected 175 million people each year between 2004 and 2013. To reduce those numbers, countries around the globe have made specific arrangements enabling them to warn the population about imminent disasters, in order to evacuate the area in due time. But providing such warnings in areas where no Internet access is available poses a great challenge. In this paper, we proposed a method to transmit early warning messages via UMTS cellular networks, while relying on spare extensions of control channels (FACH). The results obtained are validate based on their comparison with theoretical considerations and are also benchmarked against the 3GPP standard. The results show that messages may be sent faster than with the use of the 3GPP standard.

Opis:
Efficient freight transportation systems typically reduce the cost of moving goods to and from logistics facilities. The demand matrix (O-D) is used to load or allocate the flow of traffic on a network, usually defined as a matrix that detects the number of trips. The objective of this study is to contribute to road freight modeling in Baghdad in general and estimate the O-D matrix for truck traffic using the freight transport data collected. Freight data was collected through roadside and interview surveys at the seven entrances of Baghdad city. In addition, the analysis was performed using Trans CAD ver. 4.5 software. The results provide an analysis of the freight travel demand. The output of this study is useful for decision-makers in the evaluation and execution of freight transportation activities and aids the application of correct decisions.

Malaysia is characterized by a variety of habitats such as forests, clearings, thickets, and cropland that attract various species of birds. This study examined the bird community in terms of richness and diversity at oil palm plantations habitat. The abundance of birds was determined by using distance sampling point count method. A total of 2722 birds belonging to 38 families representing 86 species of birds were detected. Diversity analysis indicates that the species of birds in the oil palm plantation at Sungai Pelek is more diverse (Shannon-Wiener Diversity Index H; 3.52) and richness (Margalef’s Richness Index R1; 10.2) than oil palm plantation in Teluk Panglima Garang-Pulau Carey and Banting-Jenjarum. However, the species of birds in the oil palm plantations at Teluk Panglima Garang-Pulau Carey and Banting-Jenjarum show higher evenness (Pielou’s Evenness Index E; 0.82) compared with oil palm plantations in Sungai Pelek. The results of this study indicate that the species composition and distribution of the avian species in the oil palm plantations are affected by habitat characterization of that particular area and its vicinity.

The objective of this research work was to estimate the effect of thermal cycling on the tensile behavior of CARALL composites. Fiber metal laminates (FMLs), based on 2D woven carbon fabric and 2024-T3 Alclad aluminum alloy sheet were manufactured by pressure molding technique followed by hand layup method. Before fabrication, aluminum sheets were anodized with phosphoric acid to produce a micro porous alumina layer on surface. This microporous layer is beneficial to produce a strong bond between the metal and fiber surfaces in FMLs. The effect of thermal cycling (-65 to +70ºC) on the tensile behavior of Cf/Al based FML was studied. Tensile strength was increased after 10 thermal cycles, but it was decreased slightly to some extent after 30 and 50 thermal cycles. Tensile modulus also show similar behavior as that of tensile strength.

In the era of automation, Malaysia is compelled to embrace Industry 4.0 in order to remain competitive. Thus, the nation needs to be better prepared to confront the challenges ahead. From the perspective of taxation, the government has crafted many tax incentives such as Reinvestment Allowance (RA) to stimulate business expansion, automation, modernization, and diversification. The aim of this paper is to determine the factors affecting the utilization of RA among incentivised firms in Malaysia. Confidential tax return data was analysed using binomial logistic regression and the results confirmed that there are connections between firm profitability, investment, sector, and effective tax rate with the utilization of RA. Thus, by focusing on the potential determinants in RA utilization, it will benefit both policy makers and industry players to enhance effective application of RA that was designed to support Industry 4.0.
W dobie automatyzacji, Malezja jest zmuszona zaadoptować Przemysł 4.0, aby pozostać konkurencyjnym. W związku z tym naród musi być lepiej przygotowany do stawienia czoła stojącym przed nim wyzwaniom. Z punktu widzenia opodatkowania, rząd opracował wiele zachęt podatkowych, takich jak zasiłek reinwestycyjny (RA), aby stymulować ekspansję biznesu, automatyzację, modernizację i dywersyfikację. Celem tego artykułu jest określenie czynników wpływających na wykorzystanie RA wśród zmotywowanych firm w Malezji. Poufne dane dotyczące zwrotu podatku analizowano za pomocą dwumianowej regresji logistycznej, a wyniki potwierdziły, że istnieją powiązania między rentownością, inwestycją, sektorem i efektywną stopą podatkową a wykorzystaniem RA. W związku z tym, skupiając się na potencjalnych determinantach wykorzystania RA, przyniesie to korzyści zarówno decydentom, jak i graczom z branży, w celu zwiększenia skuteczności stosowania RA, który został zaprojektowany w celu wspierania Przemysłu 4.0.

Opis:
Reducing energy consumption and providing high performance for a vapour compression refrigeration system are big challenges that need more attention and investigation. This paper provides an extensive review of experimental and theoretical studies to present the vapour compression refrigeration system and its modifications that can be used to improve system’s performance and reduce its energy consumption. This paper also presents the challenges that can be considered as a gab of research for the future works and investigations. Cooling capacity, refrigerant effect, energy consumption can be improved by using vapour injection technique, natural working fluid, and heat exchanger. Based on the outcome of this paper, vapour injection technique using natural refrigerant such as water can provide ultimate friendly refrigeration system. Future vision for the vapour compression refrigeration system and its new design technique using Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) is also considered and presented.

The density, compressive strength, and thermal insulation properties of fly ash geopolymer paste are reported. Novel insulation material of glass bubble was used as a replacement of fly ash binder to significantly enhance the mechanical and thermal properties compared to the geopolymer paste. The results showed that the density and compressive strength of 50% glass bubble was 1.45 g/cm3 and 42.5 MPa, respectively, meeting the standard requirement for structural concrete. Meanwhile, the compatibility of 50% glass bubbles tested showed that the thermal conductivity (0.898 W/mK), specific heat (2.141 MJ/m3 K), and thermal diffusivity (0.572 mm2 /s) in meeting the same requirement. The improvement of thermal insulation properties revealed the potential use of glass bubbles as an insulation material in construction material.
