Opis:
A self-similar solution for the propagation of a spherical shock wave in a non-ideal gas in the presence of an azimuthal magnetic field is investigated. The medium is assumed to be under a gravitational field due to a heavy nucleus at the origin(Roche Model). The unsteady model of Roche consists of a gas distributed with spherical symmetry around the nucleus having a large mass. It is assumed that the gravitational effect of the medium itself can be neglected compared with the attraction of the heavy nucleus. The total energy of the flow-field behind the shock is supposed to be increasing with time. Similarity solutions are obtained, and the effects of variation of the parameter of non-idealness of the gas, the shock-Mach number and the Alfven-Mach number on the flow-field behind the shock are investigated.

Opis:
Plane-strain vibrations in a fluid-loaded poroelastic hollow cylinder surrounded by a fluid are investigated employing Biot’s theory of wave propagation in poroelastic media. The poroelastic hollow cylinder is homogeneous and isotropic, while the inner and outer fluids are homogeneous, isotropic and inviscid. The frequency equation of the fluid-loaded poroelastic cylinder surrounded by a fluid is obtained along with several particular cases, namely, fluid-loaded poroelastic cylinder, fluid-loaded bore, poroelastic cylinder surrounded by a fluid and poroelastic solid cylinder submerged in a fluid. The frequency equations are obtained for axially symmetric, flexural and anti-symmetric vibrations each for a pervious and an impervious surface. Nondimensional frequency for propagating modes is computed as a function of the ratio of thickness to the inner radius of the core. The results are presented graphically for two types of poroelastic cylinders and then discussed.

Opis:
Lipid was extracted from the muscle of Cuttle fish by solvent extraction method and then purified by suitable conventional method. Various physical constants e.g. refractive index, viscosity, specific gravity, crude fat, crude fibre and ash contents and chemical parameters e.g. saponification value, saponification equivalent value, acid value, iodine value, acetyl value, peroxide value, thiocyanogen value, Reichert-Meissl value, Polenske value, Henher value, cholesterol content etc. of the lipid sample have been determined and compared with those of different standard oils. Fatty acids composition of the sample was investigated by Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) method. The muscle lipid of Cuttle fish was found to contain palmitic acid, stearic acid, linolenic acid and erucic acid respectively with some other unknown fatty acids. Antimicrobial activities of the lipid were tested by standard method and found moderate to potential antibiotic and antifungal property in this lipid. The lipid containing muscle of Cuttle fish was analyzed quantitatively for the determination of percentages of protein and minerals (N, P, K, Ca) contents by modified Kjeldahl method.

Opis:
The present investigation reports the use of 2,4,6,8,10,12-hexanitro2,4,6,8,10,12-hexaazaisowurtzitane (CL-20) in sheet explosive formulations. In this study, hydroxyl terminated polybutadiene (HTPB) based sheet explosives were prepared incorporating the powerful explosive CL-20 as a partial replacement for hexahydro-1,3,5-trinitro-1,3,5-triazine(RDX). The effects of incorporating CL-20 on the performance, sensitivity, thermal and mechanical properties of the sheet explosive compositions are reported. Sheet explosive formulation containing 80% of RDX and 20% of HTPB-binder was studied as control sample. HTPBbinder consisted of 12% HTPB, 2.9% dioctyl adipate (DOA) and 5.1% dioctyl phthalate (DOP). HTPB was cured with 4,4’-methylene diphenyl di-isocyanate (MDI) to form urethane linkages. The incorporation of 20% of CL-20 in place of RDX led to a remarkable increase in the velocity of detonation (VOD), of the order of 7680 m/s, and to better mechanical properties in terms of tensile strength (1.14 MPa) compared to the control formulation [RDX /HTPB-binder (80/20)]. The 20% CL-20 incorporated sheet explosive formulation also showed remarkable increases in impact and shock sensitivity. Thermal analysis of the sheet explosive compositions has also been carried out using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC).

Opis:
Understanding the return-reversal phenomenon observed to generate large abnormal profits under some stock market trading strategies is of considerable interest in finance. There is also much debate over the use of idiosyncratic risk as a predictor in asset pricing models when it is persistent. This paper, using the Australian data, presents new empirical evidence of return-reversals at the firm level and the existence of an equilibrium state based on robust econometric methodology of panel error-correction model. The method exploits the persistence in idiosyncratic risk and builds on its cointegration with the returns series. Our results reveal the tendency of long-run returns to restore equilibrium, reversals in short-run returns, a slower recovery to equilibrium by small stocks, and while the short-run responses of returns to changes in log book-to-market ratios are positive, their reaction to persistence in idiosyncratic volatility causes the reversal process. The pattern in quantile dependent coefficients of short-run idiosyncratic risk-return relationship suggests that (i) the changes in idiosyncratic volatility risk adversely affects the short-run returns of low performing stocks but investments in high performing stocks benefit from such changes; (ii) the increasing trend in the coefficients implies a quadratic relationship in the levels of the two series. The significant marginal effects of changes in idiosyncratic volatility and its one period lagged values on changes in returns at many quantiles support the impact being due to persistence in idiosyncratic risk, and their reversing signs provide an evidence of reversion in short-run returns.
