Opis:
Present paper deals with the mechanical activation of deposited brown coal fly ash in a high energy density mill. The mechanical activation was carried out in a laboratory scale stirred media mill using various rotor circumferential speed (5 and 7 m/s), and different grinding time (from 1 min up to 180 min). The consumed energy was measured during the grinding process. Furthermore, particle size distribution and specific surface area were determined using laser particle size analyzer. The structural changes were detected by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Additionally, transformation in mineralogical phases was measured by X-ray diffraction, as well as particle morphology and crystal defects were determined by transmission electron microscopy. As a result of the investigation, relationship between the technological parameters of the grinding and the properties of the ground material was created. It was found that there is a certain mechanochemical effect on the crystal structure of fly ash components in the stirred media mill, as it was revealed by X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy. The most efficient grinding parameters were determined.

Opis:
Geopolymers have been synthesized from mechanically activated lignite and brown coal fly ash. Mechanical activation of fly ash has been carried out using laboratory ball mill. To determine the structural changes in both, the fly ash and the resulted geopolymer, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy measurements were performed. Isothermal conduction calorimetry method was applied to study the geopolymerisation reactions in mechanically non-activated (raw) and activated fly ash samples. The isothermal conduction calorimetry results showed similar peak intensity for mechanically activated (5-30 min) fly ash samples. However, the intensity of peak for 120 min milled brown coal fly ash was the highest. The compressive strength of the specimen was found to be dependent on the grinding residence time as well as composition/type of fly ash.

Characteristic features of European woodland include both a reduction in natural forest areas and an increase in former agricultural areas occupied by secondary woodland. The management of these areas is challenging in terms of nature conservation, agricultural and forestry management and policy. The aim of our study was to reconstruct the history and to document the current tree stand structure for a secondary oak-beech woodland in Hungary. Towards the end of the 1800s, this area which was once almost completely occupied by a continuous forest, had been transformed into a wood-pasture. As a result of its gradual abandonment, the closed forest stand of the pasture increased from 10 to 52% between 1963 and 2005. The most characteristic feature of this woodland is the abundance of large trees. Globally, the number of large and ancient trees is rapidly diminishing. Therefore preserving and maintaining such areas, where large trees could live, is an essential management task.

Opis:
Sustainable (and adaptive) management of natural resources is usually based on long term local experiences with nature. Local traditional communities often possess rich ecological knowledge connected to nature and traditional resource use and management. This knowledge can provide unexpected new information for researchers, and show new opportunities and ways for professionals in conserving rare and threatened species. We found significant new populations of the rare Ophrys lesbis in a private area next to the settlement of Çamlık, Muğla, and Orchis punctulata in the graveyard of Kadılar, Antalya with the help of local rural people. We firstly report the replanting of some orchid species (Orchis papilionacea, O. italica, and Barlia robertiana) in kitchen gardens of Çamlık and Bayır, in Muğla Province. The presence of significant orchid populations (e.g., the biggest ever found for Ophrys lesbis) in an area, where local owners have been actively harvesting salep from year to year for decades suggests that the moderate salep harvesting can be sustainable for long run. Based on our observations, Turkish salep harvesters can help botanists and conservationists find new locations of rare threatened orchid populations, and therefore indirectly help in conserve these populations.

Opis:
The application and utilization of the industrial wastes and by-products in the construction industry is a key issue from an environmental and economic point of view. The increased use of lignite has substantially increased the available quantities of lignite fired power plant fly ash, which can be mainly classified as class C fly ash. The utilization of such raw material however has some difficulties. In the present paper lignite fired power station fly ash and metallurgical converter slag were used for the production of geopolymer concrete. The fly ash was used as a geopolymer based binder material, and a converter slag as aggregate, thus created a geopolymer concrete which contains mainly industrial wastes. As preliminary test experimental series were carried out using andesite as aggregate. The optimal aggregate/binder ratio was determined. The effect of the amount of alkaline activator solution in the binder, the aggregate type on the geopolymer concretes compressive strength and density was investigated. Furthermore, the physical properties - freeze-thaw resistance and particle size distribution - of the applied aggregates were measured as well. As a result of the experiments it was found that physical properties of the andesite and converter slag aggregate was close. Therefore andesite can be replaced by converter slag in the concrete mixture. Additionally, geopolymer concrete with nearly 20 MPa compressive strength was produced from class C fly ash and converter slag.

Opis:
In this manuscript, correlations were searched for between pin misalignments relative to PCB bores and crack propagation after cyclic thermal shock tests in THT solder joints produced from lead-free solder alloys. In total, 7 compositions were examined including SAC solders with varying Ag, Cu and Ni contents. The crack propagation was initiated by cyclic thermal shock tests with 40°C / +125°C temperature profiles. Pin misalignments relative to the bores were characterized with three attributes obtained from one section of the examined solder joints. Cracks typically originated at the solder/pin or solder/bore interfaces and propagated within the solder. It was shown that pin misalignments did not have an effect on crack propagation, thus, the solder joints’ lifetime.

Opis:
A petrographical and geochemical analysis was carried out on intrusive rocks from the Pieniny and Moravian areas, with special attention to boron content and K-Ar radiometric ages. The intrusions form medium- to high-potassium calc-alkaline andesitic suites, which are compositionally slightly different from each other and from the other calc-alkaline sequences in the Carpathian-Pannonian Region. No significant geochemical differences were observed within the different phase intrusions in the Pieniny areas. However, there is a slight difference in major and trace element composition between the Moravian and Pieniny intrusions. The andesitic rocks in the Pieniny and Moravian area are enriched in large ion lithophile elements and light rare earth elements and depleted in high field strength elements, indicating a metasomatized mantle source of the parent magmas. The low boron concentration of the andesitic rocks in the Pieniny area is in the range measured in back-arc, intraplate basalts of the Bakony-Balaton Highland volcanic field, whereas the higher boron content of the Moravian rocks overlaps with that of the Western Carpathian andesites. This may indicates the heterogeneity of the mantle lithosphere below the areas, or indicates different magma evolution histories. On the basis of the systematic geochronological study, the intrusive rocks along the Outer Carpathians can be divided on three groups, which overlap with each other temporally. The oldest magmatism occurred from 14.8 Ma to 11.0 Ma in the Uhersky Brod area, Moravia, which was followed by the emplacement of andesitic dikes and sills in the Pieniny Mts., south Poland (13.5–10.8 Ma). In the Pieniny area, two intrusive phases were distinguished. Partly overlapping with this area, but generally younger than this magmatism, the emplacement of the youngest intrusions is referable to the Poiana Botizei-Ţibleş-Toroiaga-Rodna-Bârgâu intrusive area, Romania, where magmatic activity started at ~11.8 Ma and terminated at 8.0 Ma.

Tracking and analysing economic and social changes in the agricultural sector is vital for decision makers, sectoral parties, professional and advocacy organisations and research institutions. Collected statistical data serve as a basis for domestic decision making and provide the foundation of strategy formulation in rural development, agro-environmental protection and sustainable agriculture. In the course of our research, analyses based on statistical databases were used to assess land use changes and land market prices. The structural survey of the Hungarian Central Statistical Office in 2013 shows that the proportion of business organisations utilising arable land grew 7 percentage points while individual farms increased their share by 2 percentage points. Our research shows that the concentration of land use increased demand for land and thus contributed to the increase in land prices.

The article aims to verify the accuracy of a method to simulate the combustion chamber with a low-pressure prototype burner equipped with a specific “mixing element” and air baffle. The burner has an output of 4 kW and combusts methane. In detail, the article evaluates the accuracy of the final courses of temperatures and CO concentrations in the combustion chamber, which were obtained having combined the mathematical models k-ε, Eddy Dissipation and Discrete Transfer. CFD software CFX was used for the solution and visualisation of the results. The verification measurements imply that the final course of temperature plotted on the vertical axis of the combustion chamber differs from the real course by +21.7% on average. The predicted CO concentrations are relatively satisfactory in the chamber locations with lower temperatures – at the combustion chamber outlet the deviation from the measured value was +31.8%. Overall, the applied method may be considered acceptable to simulate the thermal field in a combustion chamber with the described burner.

Opis:
The Pannonian endemic species Vincetoxicum pannonicum was described from specimens collected in Hungary and occurs at only few locations. It is considered “vulnerable” according to the International Red List. The chromosome set was reported to be tetraploid, and the species was hypothesized to be an allotetraploid hybrid of the Balkan species V. fuscatum and the Adriatic species V. hirundinaria subsp. adriaticum. We investigated the origin of V. pannonicum using molecular phylogenetic methods by separately analyzing the multicopy nuclear ribosomal internal transcribed spacer (nrITS) and the plastid-encoded trnH-psbA DNA regions and by evaluating discrepancies between the produced gene trees. Paralogs in the nrITS region clustered in two main groups, one of which was closest to V. fuscatum, and the other included V. hirundinaria subsp. adriaticum. According to trnH-psbA sequences, V. pannonicum and V. hirundinaria subsp. adriaticum formed a single group. Our results show that V. pannonicum diversified because of hybrid speciation, in which V. fuscatum was the pollen donor. We discovered a similar placement of V. maeoticum, which suggests a further hybridization event between V. fuscatum and a species of the V. hirundinaria group. Our genome-size estimate indicates almost sixfold larger genome size in V. pannonicum compared to the maternal diploid parent, suggesting hexaploidy; however, V. pannonicum is tetraploid. This may suggest cytological diploidization in the allopolyploid V. pannonicum. We observed substantial genetic distance between V. hirundinaria subsp. adriaticum and all other subspecies of V. hirundinaria, and we therefore propose that V. adriaticum should be regarded as a separate species.
