Opis:: This article is based on a text by Tom Keenoy Human Resource Management, published in 2009 in a book The Oxford Handbook of Critical Management Studies. We can find there many definitions of human resource management and very detailed characterization of it, as well as about the history of the concept and its evolution over the years. We can see the process of introduction HRM to many different countries and the process of change through which it passed. This article touches the problem of reception of the popular HRM by the scientific community. In this text we may also find a description of the practices characterized the discourse of this concept and at the end a little bit criticism of it.

Opis:: Progress and achievements in the field of medical knowledge, technical sciences and materials engineering related to the broadly understood aspects of human health and life have intensively influenced the development of technologies used in the production of permanent prosthetic restorations. Ceramic materials and metal alloys with a wide range of applications in the manufacture of prosthetic restorations deserve special attention. The combination of the positive features of these two materials, with different chemical and physical properties, made it possible to obtain prosthetic structures that meet the strength and aesthetic requirements. Despite the dynamic development of more and more new techniques, devices and materials for the production of prosthetic restorations, metal-ceramic constructions are still a reliable and dominant method of making dental restorations of permanent crowns and bridges. Their quality and durability is largely influenced by the method of connecting the ceramic facing material with the metal base. There are three types of connections: physical, mechanical and chemical. The basis of the physical connection is the selection of appropriate thermal expansion coefficients of both materials. It is related to the compressive stresses occurring during the cooling of the fired ceramics. The formation of depressions on the surface of the framework causes retention and microretention, thanks to which the surface of ceramic-metal adhesion increases. The chemical connection ensures the formation of a controlled oxide layer on the metal base due to the content of elements such as gallium, indium or iron.

Opis:: Celem artykułu jest eksploracja zagadnień z zakresu zarządzania w więziennictwie na podstawie pilotażowych badań zrealizowanych wśród dyrektorów wybranych jednostek organizacyjnych Służby Więziennej – zakładach karnych i aresztach śledczych. Przedmiotem badań są style zarządzania oraz aspekty osobowościowe menadżerów najwyższego szczebla w jednostkach penitencjarnych istotne z punktu widzenia efektywnego funkcjonowania zawodowego. Autorzy przeprowadzili interdyscyplinarne badania z wykorzystaniem narzędzi i technik badawczych stosowanych w naukach o zarządzaniu i jakości, naukach prawnych oraz psychologii, wykorzystując Bochumski Inwentarz Osobowościowych Wyznaczników Pracy Rudigera Hossiepa i Michaela Paschena (BIP), wywiady swobodne pogłębione, elementy obserwacji oraz analizę danych zastanych. Największe różnice pomiędzy osobami badanymi uzyskano w zakresie Wrażliwości Społecznej, Otwartości na Relacje i Towarzyskości, najbardziej spójne wyniki obserwowano w obszarze Asertywność. Zaobserwowano, że większość dyrektorów stara się odchodzić od autokratycznego stylu zarządzania na poczet humanistycznego, zorientowanego na budowanie relacji interpersonalnych.
The aim of the article is to explore the field of prison management based on pilot studies carried out among the heads of selected prisons. The subject of the research is management styles and personality aspects of top-level managers in prisons, important in the context of efficient professional functioning. The authors conducted an interdisciplinary study using research tools and techniques applied to management sciences, legal sciences, and psychology, using in-depth interviews, the Bochum Inventory of Personality Determinants of Work by Rudiger Hossiep and Michael Paschen (BIP), elements of observation, and desk research. The greatest differences between the respondents were obtained in the areas of Social Sensitivity, Openness to Relationships, and Sociability, while the most consistent results were observed in the area of Assertiveness. It has been observed that most heads try to depart from the autocratic style of management towards a humanistic one, oriented at building interpersonal relations.

Opis:: The years 2000 and 2007 witnessed milestones in current understanding of G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) structural biology. In 2000 the first GPCR, bovine rhodopsin, was crystallized and the structure was solved, while in 2007 the structure of β2-adrenergic receptor, the first GPCR with diffusible ligands, was determined owing to advances in microcrystallization and an insertion of the fast-folding lysozyme into the receptor. In parallel with those crystallographic studies, the biological and biochemical characterization of GPCRs has advanced considerably because those receptors are molecular targets for many of currently used drugs. Therefore, the mechanisms of activation and signal transduction to the cell interior deduced from known GPCRs structures are of the highest importance for drug discovery. These proteins are the most diversified membrane receptors encoded by hundreds of genes in our genome. They participate in processes responsible for vision, smell, taste and neuronal transmission in response to photons or binding of ions, hormones, peptides, chemokines and other factors. Although the GPCRs share a common seven-transmembrane α-helical bundle structure their binding sites can accommodate thousands of different ligands. The ligands, including agonists, antagonists or inverse agonists change the structure of the receptor. With bound agonists they can form a complex with a suitable G protein, be phosphorylated by kinases or bind arrestin. The discovered signaling cascades invoked by arrestin independently of G proteins makes the GPCR activating scheme more complex such that a ligand acting as an antagonist for G protein signaling can also act as an agonist in arrestin-dependent signaling. Additionally, the existence of multiple ligand-dependent partial activation states as well as dimerization of GPCRs result in a 'microprocessor-like' action of these receptors rather than an 'on-off' switch as was commonly believed only a decade ago.

Opis:: Wprowadzenie. Regularne wizyty kontrolne u lekarza dentysty odgrywają kluczową rolę w utrzymaniu zdrowia jamy ustnej. Z uwagi na znaczne rozpowszechnienie próchnicy i chorób przyzębia młodzi Polacy charakteryzują się wysokimi i stale rosnącymi potrzebami profilaktyczno-leczniczymi. Cel pracy. Celem pracy było określenie uwarunkowań korzystania ze stomatologicznego badania kontrolnego wśród studentów Państwowej Wyższej Szkoły Zawodowej w Suwałkach. Materiał i metoda. Materiał do analizy stanowiły dane zebrane w latach 2013–2016 wśród 864 studentów pierwszego roku studiów Państwowej Wyższej Szkoły Zawodowej w Suwałkach. Badanie zrealizowano metodą sondażu diagnostycznego, z wykorzystaniem kwestionariusza ankiety własnego autorstwa. W celu identyfikacji uwarunkowań stomatologicznego badania kontrolnego posłużono się wieloczynnikową analizą regresji logistycznej. Wyniki. Większość badanych studentów przynajmniej raz w roku kontrolowała stan zdrowia jamy ustnej u lekarza dentysty (37,7% – dwa razy w roku; 38,1% – raz w roku). Większe prawdopodobieństwo udziału w stomatologicznym badaniu kontrolnym występowało w przypadku kobiet (OR 1,775; 95% CI: 1,249–2,521) oraz gdy sytuacja materialna badanych była dobra lub bardzo dobra (OR 1,584; 95% CI: 1,144–2,193). W analizie uwarunkowań stomatologicznego badania kontrolnego zmienne opisujące zachowania zdrowotne studentów nie miały istotnego statystycznie znaczenia. Wnioski. Trzech na czterech studentów Państwowej Wyższej Szkoły Zawodowej w Suwałkach przynajmniej raz w roku kontroluje stan zdrowia jamy ustnej u lekarza dentysty. Profilaktyka stomatologiczna wśród badanych studentów uwarunkowana jest czynnikami socjodemograficznymi, nie jest natomiast związana z zachowaniami zdrowotnymi. Większe prawdopodobieństwo regularnych wizyt kontrolnych u lekarza dentysty występuje w przypadku kobiet i osób o lepszej sytuacji materialnej. Promocja stomatologicznych badań kontrolnych powinna być kierowana zwłaszcza do studentów o niższym statusie socjoekonomicznym.
Introduction. Regular check-up visits to a dentist play a crucial role in the maintenance of oral hygiene. Considering the considerable prevalence of dental caries and paradontal diseases, young Poles are characterized by high and increasingly growing prophylactic and treatment needs. Objective. The objective of the study was determination of the conditions of the use of dental check-up examinations among students of the State Higher Vocational School in Suwałki. Materials and method. The material for the study were data collected during the period 2013–2016 among 864 students of the first year of study at the State Higher Vocational School in Suwałki. The study was conducted by the method of a diagnostic survey, using a questionnaire designed by the author. In order to identify the conditions of dental check-up examination, multiple factor analysis with logistic regression was used. Results. The majority of students in the study controlled their state of oral health at a dentist at least once a year (37.7% – twice a year; 38.1% – once a year). A higher probability of participation in a dental check-up occurred in the case of women (OR 1.775; 95% CI: 1.249–2.521), and when the respondents’ material standard was good or very good (OR 1.584; 95% CI: 1.144–2.193). In the analysis of conditions of dental check-up examination, the variables describing health behaviours of the students had no statistical significance. Conclusions. Three per four students of the State Higher Vocational School in Suwałki control their state of oral health at a dentist at least once a year. Among the students in the study, dental prophylaxis is conditioned by socio-demographic factors, and is not related with health behaviours. A higher probability of regular check-up visits to a dentist occurred in the case of women, and persons with a higher material standard. Promotion of dental check-up examinations should be addressed especially to the students with a lower socio-economic status.
