Opis:: Porty lotnicze stoją przez wyzwaniem zapewnienia pomocy osobom niepełnosprawnym oraz z ograniczoną sprawnością ruchową, w dostępie do usług przez nich oferowanych, w celu wyrównania szans w normalnym podróżowaniu. Dzieje się to poprzez likwidację barier, z którymi spotykają się osoby niepełnosprawne. W artykule opisano rodzaje niepełnosprawności z punku widzenia konieczności dostosowania odpowiedniej pomocy, kompetencje jakimi powinny się odznaczać osoby zajmujące się asystą w portach lotniczych oraz zaproponowano dobre praktyki w zarządzaniu komunikacją z osobami zgłaszającymi potrzebę w pokonaniu barier i pomocy na lotnisku.
Airports face the necessity to provide assistance to persons with disabilities and reduced mobility with the access to the services they offer in order to ensure equal travelling opportunities. This is done by the elimination of barriers that disabled passengers encounter. The article describes the types of disabilities with regard to the necessity to offer adequate assistance, the desired competences of airport special assistants and it suggests good practices in communication management with passengers who expect to obtain help in overcoming the existing barriers.

Opis:: In the psychological and psychiatric professional literature more and more proofs are being accumulated that psychological stress alone, once it exceeds certain limits of intensity and duration, can lead to severe impairment of fundamental psychological processes and cause often irreversible, and even progressive mental changes. In numerous studies of victims of the Second World War these changes, as well as accompanying psychosomatic disorders, were given the name of Concentration Camp Syndromes. The present study discusses the symptoms, the progression, the reasons for differences in intensity of manifestation, as well as the prognoses for the victims of psychological disturbances of this kind. Although almost all persons who survived prisons, concentration camps, forced labor camps, and prisoner of war camps seem to be, to a greater or lesser degree, touched by the symptoms of this syndrome even thirty years or more after the war, it seems that those who became repatriated to their own countries function comparatively less successfully than those who emigrated, particularly when occupational and financial achievements are compared. It is possible that the fact of emigration in itself forces the individual to increased efforts to provide for himself and his family, since he knows that he cannot count on anyone else. Nevertheless, despite outward appearances of material success, the survivors who emigrated often experience serious psychological disorders, which in some cases are serious enough to be transmitted to their children. With this accumulated evidence of long term effects of war trauma, questions arise about the psychological and physical health of Polish wartime emigrants, who were almost entirely drawn from survivors of terror and oppression. Because we know very little about this group, studies seem to be indicated to identify problems and eventually give assistance to those who may need it, particularly in the second generation. A work of this nature could also increase the understanding of scientists interested in Polish wartime emigrants, as well as help those researchers, on the international arena, who try to chart long term effects of wartime stresses.

Opis:: W artykule przedstawiono, czym jest komunikacja i jakie występują kanały, którymi się komunikujemy. W oparciu o wymienione sposoby komunikacji, pokazano najczęściej występujące dysfunkcje w porozumiewaniu się. Następnie zaprezentowano metodę komunikacji Marshalla Rosenberga i cztery kroki NVC, z ich opisem. W opracowaniu wskazano także korzyści płynące z zastosowania przedstawionej metody.
The article presents what communication is and what channels we use to communicate. Based on the above-mentioned methods of communication, the most common communication dysfunctions are shown. Then the Marshall Rosenberg communication method and the four NVC steps are presented, with their description. The paper also indicates the benefits of using the presented method.

Opis:: ObjectivesThe aim of this paper was to investigate the impact of changes in the students’ lifestyle during an examination period on their health condition, as evidenced by changes to the body composition and metabolic rates.Material and MethodsThe study involved 268 Wroclaw Medical University students (second- and third-year students). The study was performed 3 times (at the beginning of a semester, in the middle of a semester, and in the examination period) and included a completion of a questionnaire on the current lifestyle, as well as measurements of the body composition, the basal metabolic rate, and the waist and hip circumferences. The measurements were carried out with the use of a body composition analyzer (Tanita MC-780 MA) and a tape measure with a waist–hip ratio calculator.ResultsIn the examination period, as compared with the rest of the semester, a significant decrease was observed in the metabolic rates, and the body water and muscle mass of the examined students. During that period, there were also more frequent adverse changes in the students’ lifestyle. In the studied periods, a correlation was found between changes in the frequency of snacking, consuming sweets and cola drinks, and the alterations of the subjects’ body fat mass, i.e., r = 0.161, r = 0.135, and r = 0.143, respectively. In turn, differences in the frequency of drinking wine, physical activity, sleep length, and time devoted to learning correlated with changes in the participants’ body water, i.e., r = 0.140, r = 0.152, and r = 0.133 (r = −0.142, r = −0.147), respectively, and muscle mass, i.e., r = 0.141, r = 0.142, and r = 0.126 (r = −0.130, r = −0.142), respectively, and metabolism, i.e., r = 0.127, r = 0.145 and r = 0.135 (r = −0.127, r = −0.135), respectively.ConclusionsThe analysis of the body composition and metabolic rates of the students during an examination period indicates that the changes occurring in various elements of their lifestyle (e.g., dietary habits, physical activity) can result in deteriorating their health condition.

Opis:: Obecne ograniczenia w leczeniu operacyjnym, a także ograniczenia dotyczące aktywności zawodowej i sportowej związane z pandemią COVID-19, nakazują szukanie rozwiązań w postępowaniu terapeutycznym dla olbrzymiej populacji chorych z przewlekłą niewydolnością żylną (ang. chronic venous insufficiency; CVI). Dla zrozumienia zasad farmakoterapii tej jednostki chorobowej autorzy posłużyli się danymi dotyczącymi epidemiologii oraz patofizjologii CVI. Przytoczyli też najnowsze dane dotyczące leków wenoaktywnych i zaleceń, których należy przestrzegać. Syntetycznie podsumowali dane z piśmiennictwa oparte na EBM (ang. evidence-based medicine). Ma to być odpowiedź na pytanie: jak postępować w czasie pandemii z chorymi, którzy mają żylaki lub – szerzej – przewlekłą niewydolność żylną?

The author concentrates especially on the crisis of the French monarchy in the years 1787-1792. He also pays a lot of attention to Gustav III’s unsuccessful attempts to build an anti-French and anti-revolutionary coalition of European monarchs. The chronological range of work covers Gustav III’s reign, thus the death of that ruler on March 29, 1792 marks the end of the book.

Opis:: The current limitations of surgical treatment, as well as restrictions on professional and sport activities related to COVID-19 pandemic require seeking therapeutic solutions for the vast population of patients with chronic venous insufficiency (CVI, chronic venous insufficiency). To understand the principles of pharmacotherapy of this disease, the authors used data related to epidemiology and pathophysiology of CVI. They provided the latest data on venoactive drugs and recommendations that should be followed and summarized the literature based on the EBM. The article should provide the answer to the question of how to deal with patients with varicose veins or, more broadly, chronic venous insufficiency during the pandemic.

Opis:: Recently, the analysis of medical imaging is gaining substantial research interest, due to advancements in the computer vision field. Automation of medical image analysis can significantly improve the diagnosis process and lead to better prioritization of patients waiting for medical consultation. This research is dedicated to building a multi-feature ensemble model which associates two independent methods of image description: textural features and deep learning. Different algorithms of classification were applied to single-phase computed tomography images containing 8 subtypes of renal neoplastic lesions. The final ensemble includes a textural description combined with a support vector machine and various configurations of Convolutional Neural Networks. Results of experimental tests have proved that such a model can achieve 93.6% of weighted F1-score (tested in 10-fold cross validation mode). Improvement of performance of the best individual predictor totalled 3.5 percentage points.
