    The article is an attempt to read Franz Kafka’s texts in the light of findings included in the article of the 20th-century philosopher and sociologist of religion, Jacob Taubes. For Taubes, Kafka’s key figure is exclusion, a phenomenon of alienness of characters created by the author of The Castle. “Kafka describes the world from the perspective of an outsider, who is desperately seeking the acceptance of the world”, he wrote. In this article, the philosopher’s words will be verified. The basic question is whether Taubes as the messianic bard of the revolution (whose presence in the national philosophical reflection became belatedly increasingly noticeable) does not use too radical simplification in his laconic interpretation of Kafka’s writing.

    In the chapter “What Disappears is Man in the Proper Sense”. On the Relationship Between the Kojvian “Death of Man” and the Expansion of the Zombie Figure in Popular Culture, Marcin Czardybon shows the convergence taking place between the globalist, anti-ideological narrative that found its voice at the end of the 20th Century and the expansion of the character of the zombie in texts of culture. It corresponds perfectly with theses that construct expressions about the “end of history”. One often forgets that Francis Fukuyama’s claims and beliefs about the imminent primacy of Western, consumerist, liberal-democratic culture are – in their fundamental principles – only a reflection of the idea preached by a French philosopher of Russian origin, Alexandre Kojève. If we consider the phenomenon of the rising popularity of the zombie in cinema and literature as a kind of social reaction to the homogenization of individuals in a-ideological realities oflate modernity, we cannot avoid returning to the claims of this philosopher. In his famous Introduction to the Reading of Hegel, in an intriguing way the condition and role of the individual in the realities of post-historical times were described. This vision, apart from components of turpitude and aggression, perfectly matches the image of zombies described in contemporary texts of culture. We can say that the expansion of “living corpses” in popular culture in the late 20th and early 21st Centuries is a (grotesque) disclosure of this content, which from the very beginning lay at the roots of this the final narrative about the end of history, ideology, struggle and work. Citizens of post-historical state are zombies, an inherent part of the world that Fukuyama and his enthusiasts saw and described in their theses.

    This article attempts to throw some light on what may be called Poland’s new national-identity literature and its leading fi gures, Jarosław Marek Rymkiewicz, Wojciech Wencel and Przemysław Dakowicz. They see their work as a psychopolitical educational tool in the service of a patriotic mission to reactivate the ‘real’ national identity. They believe that such an identity is necessary for individuals to develop strong personal identities, founded on a sense of belonging to an integral national community. Rymkiewicz, Wencel and Dakowicz champion this, somewhat archaic, model of national identity which claims total commitment from its members in virtually all their writings. This article focuses on the rhetorical devices used by the new national-identity literature to present and promote its key concept, especially the idea of a ‘sublime’ ethnic community, or a sentimentalized vision of a Polish Commonwealth.

    Artykuł stanowi próbę odpowiedzi na pytanie o obecność „ducha brexitu” w tekstach literackich powstających poza Wyspami. Pierwsza część poświęcona jest wyjaśnieniu sformułowania „duch brexitu” w świetle kategorii Zeitgeist. W drugiej partii tekstu wskazuję na zbieżności i różnice pomiędzy eurosceptycznymi nastrojami w brytyjskiej literaturze, a eurosceptycyzmem polskich XXI-wiecznych pisarzy, sytuujących się blisko prawej strony sceny politycznej. W myśl głównej tezy artykułu „duch brexitu” uobecnia się tak w brytyjskiej, jak i w polskiej literaturze w pracach dowartościowujących kategorię narodu, jego tradycji i dziejów. Prace te pobudzają godnościowe roszczenia i aktywizują narodowe resentymenty. Wykorzystane w szkicu ustalenia filologów, socjologów, filozofów i badaczy retoryki służą dowiedzeniu przedstawionej tezy, ukazaniu sposobów przejawiania się omawianego fenomenu oraz sformułowaniu odpowiedzi na pytanie o jego przyczyny.
    The article is an attempt to answer the question about the presence of the “Brexit spirit” in literary texts created outside the UK. The first part is devoted to explaining the term “Brexit spirit” in the light of the Zeitgeist category. In the second part, I point out the similarities and differences between the Eurosceptic moods in British literature and the Euroscepticism of Polish twenty-first-century right-wing writers. According to the main thesis of the article, the “Brexit spirit” is present in British and Polish literature in works that value the category of the nation, its traditions and history. These works stimulate dignity claims and activate national resentments. The findings of philologists, sociologists, philosophers and researchers of rhetoric used in the sketch serve to prove the presented thesis, to show the ways in which the discussed phenomenon manifests itself, and to formulate an answer to the question about its causes.
