Opis:
Purpose: In this paper, the bending strength and buckling stability of (AA 7075-T6) aluminium plate weakened by many transverse cracks, which located at different positions, subjected to concentrated loads applied at the ends were analysed. Design/methodology/approach: Numerical modelling and calculation by the finite element method (ANSYS Package), for the critical load of bending and compression panel were estimated. Findings: It found that the variation of the critical stress in bending and buckling is proportional to the crack conditions (no. of crack and location). In general, the critical load in bending and buckling decreases with increasing the crack number in structure. Research limitations/implications: For both bending and buckling, two transverse cracks on one face of plate is more stable than two transverse cracks on opposite faces. Practical implications: In addition, many experimental tests were carried out by using an INSTRON test machine to obtain the buckling critical loads, where the experimental results were compared with the ones of the finite element method. Furthermore, bending strength was calculated theoretically for the cracked panel. Originality/value: Comparison between the experimental and numerical (FE based model) data and between the theoretical and nu-merical (FE based model) data for buckling and bending strength respectively indicate the precise and the simplicity of the developed models to determine the critical loads in such cases.

Opis:
Minimal neighbour designs (NDs) are used when a response of a treatment (direct effect) is affected by the treatment(s) applied in the neighbouring units. Minimal generalised NDs are preferred when minimal NDs cannot be constructed. Through the method of cyclic shifts (Rule I), the conditions for the existence of minimal circular generalised NDs are discussed, in which v/2 unordered pairs do not appear as neighbours. Certain generators are also developed to obtain minimal circular generalised NDs in blocks of two different sizes, where k2 = 3, 4 and 5. All these designs are constructed using i sets of shifts for k1 and two for k2.

Opis:
Cr(VI) adsorption was studied for abundantly available low-cost lignocellulosic adsorbents in Pakistan namely, tobacco stalks (TS), white cedar stem (WCS) and eucalyptus bark (EB). Several process variables like contact time, adsorbent dose, pH, metal concentration, particle size and temperature were optimized in batch mode. EB showed high Cr(VI) adsorption of 63.66% followed by WCS 62% and TS 57% at pH 2, which is higher than most of the reported literature. Langmuir isotherm (R2  = 0.999) was well fitted into the equilibrium Cr(VI) data of EB, suggesting homogeneous active sites and monolayer coverage of Cr(VI) onto the EB surface. Freundlich (R2  = 0.9982) isotherm was better fitted to the equilibrium data of TS and WCS, revealing the adsorption sites with heterogeneous energy distribution and multilayer Cr(VI) adsorption. Moreover, the Cr(VI) adsorption of studied adsorbents followed the pseudo-second order kinetic model. Thermodynamic properties were investigated in two temperature ranges, i.e., T1  (303–313 K) and T2  (313–323 K). TS and EB showed the exothermic at T1 and endothermic reactions at T2 with entropy controlled adsorption at the solid-liquid interface, and WCS exhibited an opposite thermal trend with decreasing disorderness at solid-liquid interface as temperature rises. Gibbs free energy (ΔG>0) confirmed the non-spontaneous adsorption process for all studied adsorbents.

Opis:
High chromium (Cr) toxicity has turned into a serious environmental concern. Cr contaminated agronomic soils negatively affect the growth and yield of crops. Current research was conducted to enhance the phytoextraction potential of maize by using Burkholderia vietnamiensis and citric acid (CA). Plants were subjected to three concentrations of Cr (0.86, 350, and 500 ppm). A pot experiment was conducted under greenhouse conditions with completely randomized design (CRD). After 72 days of experiment, plants were harvested to analyze the morphological and biochemical attributes of soil, bacteria and plant. Results revealed that plant fresh, dry biomass, root, shoot length and chlorophyll contents significantly increased by 56%, 50%, 58%, 78% and 60%, respectively, at 500 ppm Cr concentration in combine treatment of B. vietnamiensis and CA. Maize plants treated with both B. vietnamiensis and CA significantly increased the bioaccumulation (BA) of Cr up to 50% and translocation factor (TF) by 31%. Furthermore, superoxide dismutase (SOD), proline and peroxidase dismutase (POD) activities in leaves were markedly increased by 30%, 42% and 15%, respectively, when treated with CA. Current study reveals that exogenous co-application of B. vietnamiensis + CA enhance plant growth by alleviating heavy metal stress and accelerate the phytoextraction of Cr. Taking into account the heavy metal tolerance and accumulation capacity, Zea mays is suitable for phytoremediation of contaminated soils in combination with B. vietnamiensis and CA.

The aim of this paper is to prepare and study the (D.C.) electrical conductivity of (PVA-Ni(NO₃)₂) composites at different temperatures. For that purpose, PVA films with Ni(NO₃)₂ salt additive were prepared with different concentrations 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 wt. % and with thickness of 45μm by using casting technique. The experimental results for PVA-Ni(NO₃)₂) films show that the (D.C.) electrical conductivity increased with increasing the filler content and the temperature, and the activation energy was decreased with increasing the filler content.

Opis:
Potentially negative environmental and human health effects have led to pharmaceutical chemicals, which are labeled as a new class of environmental contaminants. Adsorption is one of the most appealing choices to remove that pharmaceutical waste in recent years. However, the environmental limitations of the adsorbent material are an obstacle to the development of this process. The current study suggested the remaining Chlorella vulgaris biomass, after the extraction process of the biomaterials, to be a bio-absorption material in removing the Ciprofloxacin from the hospital wastewater. The preparation and characterization of the suggested adsorbent through FTIR analysis, and scanning electron microscopy, coupled with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction, were present in the current study. Several functional groups (such as carboxylic, amines, hydroxyls, and amides) were observed to aid the adsorption process. After the extraction process, the results showed a growth in the peaks, indicating an increase in functional groups, particularly the -O.H. and -N.H. groups, while having changed toward lower energy after binding with CIP atoms, as well as an increase in surface area from 2.3723 to 3.6224 m2/g. The XRD was shown to be compatible with the EDX test, which both demonstrated a decrease in carbon element concentration due to the deconstruction process. The effects of Ciprofloxacin bio-sorption variables, including contact time, initial Ciprofloxacin concentration, pH, and adsorbent dosage, were adopted as a parametric study. The maximum adsorption capacity was recorded at pH 7 with an adsorbent dose of 2.75 g/L; after 120 minutes, the data show that 89.9% of Ciprofloxacin has been adsorption onto the extracted biomass.
