Opis:
Problems on inverter motor drives such as bearing currents are introduced due to common mode voltages. Different solutions are proposed on literature, for two-level or multilevel inverter. Instantaneous zero common mode voltage by using a three-level inverted could be achieved. This paper proposes a commutation strategy that allows zero common mode voltage by using medium vectors, and also a new representation as a plane on the commutation space is defined which is called zero common mode voltage plane. On this defined plane, every turning vector fulfil this property. Simulations and experimental results clearly show method's efficiency.

Opis:
The subfamily Glyptodontinae (Xenarthra, Cingulata) comprises one of the most frequently recorded glyptodontids in South America. Recently, the North American genus Glyptotherium was recorded in South America, in addition to the genus Glyptodon. It has been shown that both genera shared the same geographic distribution in central-north and eastern areas of South America (Venezuela and Brazil, respectively). Although some characters allow differentiation between adult specimens of both genera, the morphological distinction between these two genera is rather difficult in juvenile specimens. In this contribution, a detailed morphological, morphometric and histological survey of a juvenile specimen of Glyptodontinae recovered from the Late Pleistocene of northern Brazil is performed. The relative lower osteoderms thickness, the particular morphology of the annular and radial sulci and the distal osseous projections of the caudal osteoderms suggest that the specimen belongs to the genus Glyptotherium. In addition, the validity of some statistical tools to distinguish between different ontogenetic stages and in some cases between genera is verified. The osteoderm microstructure of this juvenile individual is characterized by being composed of a cancellous internal core surrounded by a compact bone cortex. Primary bone tissue mostly consists of highly vascularized, woven-fibered bone tissue. Unlike that observed in adult Glyptodontinae, both the Sharpey fibers and the fibrous and laminar parallel bone tissue as secondary bone are absent. This study enhances our knowledge about those morphological and histological changes that occur through the ontogeny in glyptodonts.

Opis:
The agronomic management of maize (Zea mays L.) modifies the structure and composition of maize grain and its products like flour, masa, and tortillas. Results have shown that the protein content in flour obtained from maize grains treated with nejayote applied at 150 m3 ha-1 (10.36 g × 100 g-1) and nejayote applied at 75 m3 ha-1 with ovine manure applied at 25 t ha-1 (10.17 g × 100 g-1) was higher than that determined in flour treated with chemical fertilizer (10.05 g × 100 g-1). The flours obtained from maize fertilized without nejayote showed the highest viscosity values and the lowest values were for chemical fertilizer (2816 mPa s) and 75 m3 ha-1 of nejayote with ovine manure applied at 25 t ha-1 (2498 mPa s). The highest elastic and viscous moduli were obtained for masa with the following fertilization regimes: 75 m3 ha-1 of nejayote with 25 t ha-1 of ovine manure, and 150 m3 ha-1 of nejayote with 25 t ha-1 of ovine manure and the lowest values of these parameters were obtained for 75 m3 ha-1 of nejayote with 50 t ha-1of ovine manure. The cohesiveness of masa was the lowest for maize fertilized with nejayote applied at 75 to 150 m3 ha-1, and 50 t ha-1 of ovine manure. The highest concentration of 150 m3 ha-1 for nejayote and the lowest level for ovine manure applied at 25 t ha-1 had a positive influence on the production of nixtamal and tortilla.

Opis:
This work proposes a systematic assessment of stereophotogrammetry and noise-floor tests to characterize and quantify the uncertainty and accuracy of a vision-based tracking system. Two stereophotogrammetry sets with different configurations, i.e., some images are designed and their sensitivity is quantified based on several assessments. The first assessment evaluates the image coordinates, stereo angle and reconstruction errors resulting from the stereophotogrammetry procedure, and the second assessment expresses the uncertainty from the variance and bias errors measured from the noise-floor test. These two assessments quantify the uncertainty, while the accuracy of the vision-based tracking system is assessed from three quasi-static tests on a small-scaled specimen. The difference in each stereophotogrammetry set and configuration, as indicated by the stereophotogrammetry and noise-floor assessment, leads to a significant result hat the first stereophotogrammetry set measures the RMSE of 3.6 mm while the second set identifies only 1.6 mm of RMSE. The results of this work recommend a careful and systematic assessment of stereophotogrammetry and noise-floor test results to quantify the uncertainty before the real test to achieve a high displacement accuracy of the vision-based tracking system.

Opis:
In this paper we address an extension of a very efficient genetic algorithm (GA) known as Hy3, a physical parallelization of the gradual distributed real-coded GA (GD-RCGA). This search model relies on a set of eight subpopulations residing in a cube topology having two faces for promoting exploration and exploitation. The resulting technique has been shown to yield very accurate results in continuous optimization by using crossover operators tuned to explore and exploit the solutions inside each subpopulation. We introduce here a further extension of Hy3, called Hy4, that uses 16 islands arranged in a hypercube of four dimensions. Thus, two new faces with different exploration/exploitation search capabilities are added to the search performed by Hy3. We analyze the importance of running a synchronous versus an asynchronous version of the models considered. The results indicate that the proposed Hy4 model overcomes the Hy3 performance because of its improved balance between exploration and exploitation that enhances the search. Finally, we also show that the async Hy4 model scales better than the sync one.

Opis:
This article presents a preliminary System Dynamics model developed to analyze the sustainability of a natural reserve in Mexico: the Tamiahua Wetlands. Wetlands are often referred to as nature’s kidneys because they filter contaminants from water. In spite of their importance, wetlands are endangered areas around the world. In order to build the model we take into account the Fishbanks model developed by Meadows (2004) as a starting point. Then, the model considers variables related to changes in total and economically active populations, and contaminants in water. The preliminary model presented in this study implies that fishing activity in the Tamiahua Wetlands, together with contaminants from human activity, have the potential to damage the diversity of species in the ecosystem, endangering its sustainability. Continued work on the model is intended to explore appropriate ways of preserving Tamiahua, providing inhabitants with economic activities that promote the sustainability of the region.
