    W artykule zaprezentowano poglądy naukowców porządkujące znaczenie w zakresie określenia zasad trwałości rozwoju. Odzwierciedlają one różne poziomy ekologicznego i ekonomicznego odniesienia oraz istniejący konflikt między konserwatywnym podejściem do środowiska i ekspansywnym w stosunku do zasobów środowiska formami gospodarowania. Opierając się na własnych wieloletnich doświadczeniach autorki wynikające z udziału w pracach eksperckich i naukowo-badawczych dotyczących problematyki ochrony środowiska i rozwoju zrównoważonego Śląska, podjęto próbę oceny efektów dotychczasowego rozwoju regionu śląskiego kształtowanych na podstawie dokumentów strategicznych, w tym strategii innowacji. Zaprezentowano aktualnie istniejące problemy tego regionu. Wskazano perspektywiczne kierunki rozwoju regionu śląskiego, które wzmocnią jego konkurencyjność w budowaniu, „zielonej gospodarki” w naszym kraju.
    EcoThe article presents the views of scientists ordering the importance in the scope of defining the principles of sustainability. The aim of the article is the author’s assessment of the current development of the Silesian region shaped on the basis of developed strategic documents, including innovation strategy. Currently, existing problems in the region are presented and promising development directions of the Silesia region which will strengthen its competitiveness and development opportunities are also indicated.

    Opis:
    W pracy dokonano oceny stopnia pobrania występujących w warzywach metali ciężkich takich jak Cd i Pb przez konsumentów z czterech grup gospodarstw domowych w województwie katowickim. Analizie poddano tę grupę warzyw, która jest w tym regionie produkowana, a także sprowadzana na rynek województwa katowickiego przez sklepy Wojewódzkiej Spółdzielni Ogrodniczej z innych rejonów kraju.
    The amounts of Cd and Pb consumed with vegetables were determined in four groups of households: workmen, workmen-peasants, farmers and pensioned workers and persons receiving disability allowances. The chemical analysis was done, in the first place, of vegetables with edible roots in which Pb and Cd were determined by atomic absorption spectrophotometry. The vegetables were bought in 1986-1987 by the Province Gardeners Cooperative in the Province of Katowice (mining and industrial region) and from the Province of Katowice and Warsaw. The amount of Cd or Pb found in weight unit of a given vegetable multiplied by the amount of this vegetable consumed in a week served as a measure of the amount of these metals taken by the consumer. After comparing of this amount with the acceptable dose the per cent of this dose obtained from vegetables was calculated. The study showed that the vegetables brought from other provinces than Katowice contained several times less Cd and Pb than those grown in the Province of Katowice. The lowest intake of Cd and Pb with vegetables was found in the households of workmen and the highest one in the households of farmers who consumed nearly exclusively vegetables grown on their farms. The vegetables from the Province of Katowice accounted in farmer families for 40% of the acceptable maximal weekly intake of cadmium, and the intake of lead was even above this maximal level. The differences in the weekly intake of these metals between the studied groups of households were due to differences in the amounts of consumed vegetables. Improvement is postulated of the control of the quality of vegetables in the Silesian market, and vegetables should be brought preferably from these regions where Cd and Pb content in vegetables is safe.

    The article presents the principles of the circular economy implemented in the management of water resources. Special attention was paid to problems in water management in new market conditions related to the adoption of the new Water Law. Changes in water management were reviewed in the light of the provisions of the adopted new Water Law and threats resulting from its introduction, especially in the light of the impact on budgets of households and enterprises. Examples of good practices in the implementation of the circular management principles in water ecosystems in the country and around the world were also presented.

    The article attempts to analyse existing approaches to management support of sustainable development particularly with use of tools based on neural networks.     The article presents the results of studies concerning the evaluation of the training curricula for students in the scope of sustainable development. The subject of evaluation included advanced training curricula realised by Silesian private universities of which educate a very high number of students from the Upper Silesia. The curricula were analysed taking into account the degree in which they address the evelopment of a holistic knowledge about economic growth, quality of life and environmental protection for the needs of sustainable development implementation practice. Moreover, the article includes examples of syllabuses of subjects addressing the issue of sustainable development lectured at the faculties of management, environmental engineering and the European studies of the Silesian School of Management in Katowice.
